They offer both organic and conventional varieties of chicken feed, and can offer realistic tips and advice if you want it. Not a clean store. The worst was how the owner had his 2 new Malinois young dogs next to the counter. Each had the spike collars on, extremely tight leashes fastened to counter. These young dogs could barely move.He claims he just got from a friend who could not keep them and he has 5 acres for these dogs. Yet he has them cruelly on very short leases with spike collars. They were very thin but nice dogs. I can't get this awful memory out of my mind . Friendly man,yes, but very bad dog owner. I think no one should support this business. Nice and clean store for all chicken, pigeon, and honey bee owners. Dealing with live animals it will not always be spotless clean, but you can tell that they are cleaning and taking care of their animals on daily bases. I have been going there for over 10 years for chicken feed , honey bee needsand never had an issue or a problem. Ben and his wife are very knowledgeable and always try to help me out with any questions I have . One of the last authentic mom and pop's stores in the area that need our support. I'd say that if you are just looking to get your mom some "no mess / no waste" birdseed, this is a great location. They had different sizes and types, and the cost was good. I'd also hazard a guess that if you are an avid bird person (like... Warning: they don't wear masks. Owner said they "already had COVID and it was no big deal," so he's not getting vaccinated. They were like this two months into the pandemic (according to a friend who bought his chicks there last May) and the same now, one year later. If you want to risk catching COVID from the two owners who sit up front mask-less, be my guest. I couldn't believe it the first time I went in. Second time it was the same. Talked with other customers I know (who never went back) and they had same experience. They lost my business. I'm vaccinated but their disregard for their customers' safety is not cool. Which is a shame. It's a good store. But you can get everything they have elsewhere. read more

Stopped in with my mom to check out the birds and feed and found this place to be very clean and orderly with so many options on feed based on dietary needs of the birds and the birds themselves were kept in tidy condition. There were chickens, guinea fowl, and pigeons on hand. The owners are very polite as well. read more

Thought this place was one that sold feed and supplies until I got there and realized they also sold animals which I find reprehensible. If anything why not have rescue farm animals only in lieu of designer birds and those from breeders. There are so many cases of abusive breeders because breeders put profit first. It's unfortunates this store feels the need to profit off of that. I won't be back as I can't in good conscience support this. read more

Sneaky Cheats... I've been a loyal customer for 4 years for my chickens. Others in the city have informed me on better options with superior customer service, cleanliness, and selection...but I liked the ease of this place and have had numerous conversations about my hens and my 1 year old daughter. Never again! Last week was the 2nd time I got stuck with bad product. I was coaxed into an open and taped bag of chicken feed. The owner told me it simply ripped and she taped it. I thought nothing of it, as I thought I could trust her. Fast forward...the bag was absolutely returned my another customer due to the fact it is 50% complete mush, no pellets. Every cup I give my hens is half dust. I can't believe she had the nerve to sell me this bag knowing. How horrible! I have a 1 year old daughter and have zero time to argue with these miserable people and exchange. I will never step in this store again, and I already emailed all the chicken enthusiasts I know in city. I should of listened to others a long time ago.This is unacceptable customer service. One of the best independently owned businesses in Chicago. Owners are extremely friendly, passionate and knowledgeable. I bought my first 3 hens from here as 4 week old chicks. I come about once every other month to buy feed, seed, hay, medicine and all the good stuff. They sell coops and other bird food, and even honey bee enclosures. Hurry and come in! We were told that the chicks were 99% female. They selected 6 for us and we were a little suspicious. Sure enough they selected a rooster and they are not allowed in our community. They would not do anything except take him back without any refund or discount. I question their honesty. read more

Happy to have discovered this place and was happy to support them, but what gives with the lack of mask-wearing?? I've been here three times since the pandemic began, and only once have I seen an employee, one only, wearing a mask. No customers wearing masks. No sign on the door requiring the wearing of masks. Went in yesterday and bought 3 fully grown laying hens, 50# of chicken feed, a bale of hay, a feeder, a waterer, and a 5# bag of oyster shell. The chickens ran $25 each, which I feel was a fair price for proven layers that are only a year old (taking their word on that, which seems to be good). They're holding the chickens for me until tomorrow after I've set everything up properly for them. The total with the chickens was $161.00 out the door. I think that everything was fairly priced and the owner was VERY helpful to me, gave me advice, and even helped me put the items into my car. I wish their parking lot was a little easier to get in and out of, but other than that (and the bees, ewwwww!) so far so good! read more

Trying to find a new place for all my bird needs...i have had cockatiels for 15+ years. Does not look they get a lot if business so id be hesitant to buy food out of fear of getting seed moths. My organic starter feed was less than a dollar a pound, and when I get their big bag, it'll be even cheaper. Reasonable prices, and very knowledgeable help, and sincere courtesy. If you like pigeons, this is the place for you. I stopped in here for some Cockatiel Chow, having noticed it while driving by. The place is full of thigs that go coo coo coo. The back room had some designer pigeons for $300 - $500, Regular pigeons cost more than a used fish net on a long pole, & that's all you'd need on the lake front, or Civic Center. The Bird chow was priced well, & our bird likes it just fine. I don't understand why anyone would 'buy' a pigeon when some people just can't get rid of them, but.... that's what makes this such a great city. read more

This is the Mecca of feed stores if you are a bird/chicken owner! Lillian the owner saved my flock of 14 with her knowledge and willingness! No other vet was willing to treat my birds without seeing all 14 which was out of the question! She listened and figured out the illness and gave me the correct antibiotic.
