Julia Belle's is right off the highway, clean and bright, has friendly, competent people, and, best of all, the food is delicious. Our group had the crab cake sandwich, shrimp platter, and a chicken tender platter. We all really liked our food. The fried items were fresh and light, the sauces were spot-on, and the coleslaw was perfect. The hush puppies were really light and crunchy, too. I'll get more next time. What a great place!! Read the reviews and decided to give this a try while passing through the state and I'm so happy we did! Cute little place in a strip mall. It was brightly colored and clean and the people were so friendly. Food was amazing!! We had fried green tomatoes (first time having these) and corn fritters to start, both were delicious. We had the Carolina Gold Pulled Pork Plate and the shrimp and grits. Both were outstanding. We got dessert to go since we were getting full. Got the Dutch apple crisp and the White Russian pecan pie. Once in a while, things just work out great. Dinner tonight was one of those times. We were staying overnight at a nearby hotel and I asked the hotel staff member for a dinner recommendation. Without even pausing, Julia Belle's was recommended. The food is traditional southern (e.g., shrimp and grits, fried catfish, hush puppies, pecan pie, etc). Everything we ordered tasted great; just too much food. This place has been open about four years and is named after the owners grandmother. Wife and I stopped in for lunch we were traveling to Hilton Head and found this place on Yelp and figured we'd give it a try. Everything looks good that we saw on other tables. Was disappointed there is no table service you order your food and then they bring it out to you, I really dislike this type of service. The lady rang us up I paid with a CC and the first thing that pops up is a tip suggesting 20, 22, and 25 really I ordered what did they do to deserve anything? We sat and waited for our egg roll app the girl running food were just like servers they just didn't take the order which they should have. They were all on the ball making sure everyone in the restaurant had what they needed refill on drinks food and very talkative. The app came out and it was excellent I personally would have really liked a sweet BBQ sauce with it but the mustard style they served was ok, would have been 4 stars with a sweet sauce and little spicy. Our food came out and it looked great the pot roast was good needed more gravy and the gravy was just a little too thick for use. The chicken sandwich was good but the honey sauce they put on the chicken seemed like there was more on the plate and on the bottom bum than on the chicken. I even cut it in half to try and make it easier to eat. The lady's came around gave more refills and told us about the desserts they seem to be homemade. I always see Julia Belle's rated near top of Yelp, beside Lost Cajun in Florence. I have driven by many times and notice it's not really restaurant size more like deli size for seating. There is old white w flowers wallpaper lining walls in between yellow painted sections. I think it's suppose to feel country and it does. When I checked on Yelp got coupon for free Bbq egg roll w purchase of entree. This appetizer item is the egg roll shell w pulled pork inside, it is an unique pairing. My wife had country pot roast, she said it was very salty. You can see from the pic, looking at it reminds me of Thunderbird buffet food not greatest impression. The biscuit didn't taste like should, more like just bread in shape of biscuit. She did say coleslaw was good. My entree was crab cake sandwich, it was quite good, but when you notice price was $11.99 it doesn't equal value IMO. I believe if were around $8.99 I would feel more comfortable justifying buying again. This is the place for southern comfort food that sets a very high bar on all levels. I knew we had come to the right place when I tasted the tea. Not a mix nor out of a bottle, but someone that knew what they are doing brewed that tea! The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff are giving southern hospitality that felt like a hug. My husband and I had the Blue Plate specials with three sides. It was more than either of us could eat. For plates costing less than $15, the quality and value were outstanding. I would have paid more and not thought it excessive. The format is to order at the counter, take your drinks and a number to your table and then your meal is brought to you after they cook it up fresh. My husband had the country fried pork chops (tasted like my mother's, and she made the best.) His sides were green beans, rice and gravy, and braised cabbage with bacon. While I had the chicken-fried chicken, along with collards (I am posting the pot liquor because IYKNK), sweet potato fries, and coleslaw. My plate came with gravy that I had put on the side because I expected the normal pasty white gravy. Goodness what a surprise the gravy turned out to be! Yes, it was a white-ish gravy (more golden actually), but it was ham-based and the flavor knocked my hat in the creek! Literally could have eaten the gravy with a spoon like soup and been perfectly content. Both plates came with a homemade biscuit that was light and buttery, with just the right amount of crispiness on top. The food was hot and seasoned perfectly. Someone in that kitchen truly knows how to throw down southern cooking like a pro. I called in the morning to confirm if they were selling a full pecan pie, as stated on their website. Since I was coming from 5 hours away and taking it to New York, I wanted to ensure they had one available. The representative assured me that they did have a full pecan pie and also answered my second question that they indeed had biscuits with sausage gravy. Before I hung up, she informed me that the pie would cost around $45 with tax. Although I hadn't asked about the price, I appreciated the information. When I arrived around 4:30 PM, I was informed that I needed to pre-order the pie three days in advance because it takes that long to make. The employee said she misunderstood my initial inquiry that morning when I called , claiming I was only asking about the price, which was not true--I simply asked if they had the pie available. Not only was the pie nearly $50, but when I received it, it was wrapped in foil rather than placed in a proper box for transport, reminiscent of something from an 8 years old's bake sale. To make matters worse, the biscuits were overly sweet and hardened within an hour. I also discovered that, despite being told earlier that they had gravy, it was only available on weekends. Overall, my experience was disappointing, and I cannot recommend this business. Their website is misleading, and the service was far from satisfactory. I would not return. Instead of being sorry they should have offered a discount . Icing on the cake : I went across the street and bought 3 more young's pecan pics at 17 dollars a pop and they were make better than the 50 one here . So disappointed. read more

Staying overnight at a local hotel on our drive back to Florida. Hotel manager recommended this place. Nothing fancy but clean and well cared for. I went in 5 min before the posted closing time and to my surprise they were more then happy to serve me. Staff, could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Food, surprisingly good for a fast food multi hotel area. Crab cake sandwich was grilled and full of crab ( very little filler). Shrimp sandwich was reminiscent of a lobster roll. Lots of shrimp (fried) on a split top hotdog roll. Topped with roulade and slaw. Fries were very good too. For a take out order, I was very happy. They even threw in a few cookies for desert. Nice little restaurant. Was traveling through Florence and wanted to have some veggies for dinner. They have lots of options. Some have meat or meat products in them but they clearly list things with meat products. Everything I had was good. The fried green tomatoes were super tangy but I think that was the tomatoes fault not the restaurants. My biscuit was an end of day causality as it was on the dry side. Thank you Yelp for this roadtrip food stop! We needed a good place to stop and since I've never been south on I-95, I really wanted to have Southern food in the South. This place was all I could hope for. Walked up to the counter and was asked in that southern accent, "What can I get y'all hon?" We shared the BBQ egg rolls--stuffed full with a side of Carolina gold BBQ sauce-- so good! Then I had the fried chicken plate with slaw and sweet potato fries and a biscuit FOR ONLY $9! Best deal ever. The chicken was so crispy and juicy, I was blown away. Hubs tried shrimp and grits for the first time-- huge hit! And of course, you have to get a sweet tea. I first became familiar with Julia Belle's in 2019 when I came to Florence. Two years later, a new location with a fantastic menu. Today, I had breakfast at Julia Belle's, and I must say, I was feeling euphoric. The food is incredible!!!!!!! I ordered the Salmon Patties from on Grits and a Breakfast Egg Roll. I only had one opportunity to eat the Salmon Patties and the Grits due to being married to a very greedy wife! Y'all, please keep me in your prayers. I married a food thief! Anyway, the salmon was so fresh that I tasted the hook that caught the fish. The grits were so flavorful that it was ridiculous! I tasted chicken flavor in the grits. This was the most savory meal that I had ever eaten. My wife told me that she ate my breakfast egg roll because I took too long to get to it. She fell deeply in love with it. A sausage gravy dip accompanied it, and it was fire! Wow! That sausage gravy had me talking in tongues! Overall, I am driving back every weekend from VA to Florence just for these two dishes. Another restaurant that is ordering at the counter and waiting for your food to be ready when called. I was meeting my parents to pick up my daughter and Florence was our meeting point. There were a few restaurants on our list to choose from and it had really good ratings and I believe 4.7 stars so we said why not. The inside gave the vibe of old diner so it was cute and nostalgic. I got there late so my mom ordered for me. I got the pot roast with cabbage and green beans. My dad got crab cake sandwich, the kids got tenders, my grandma got chicken and waffles and they put peaches on top and my brother and mom got the shrimp and grits. Now first my food lacked seasoning BAD. there was no salt and if there was it was literally a pinch, no spice, no flavor nothing. The actual texture and cook of the roast was good though. Even the cabbage and green beans were not seasoned and green beans tasted and looked like they came out of a can to be honest. I still ate some once I added salt and pepper so it made it taste a little better. The biscuit I didn't even try because the outside was so hard and stale like. My daughter did not want that Mac and cheese and quite frankly it looks like velveeta which we don't like and it looked like wayy too much. They also gave like Carolina bbq sauce not regular bbq sauce you'd eat with chicken so that was a no as well. Her and my nephew did enjoy the tenders and fries though. They looked well done and crispy. My dad liked his crab cake sandwich but the patty was flat and I'm scared it may have lacked flavor too but I didn't try it so I took his word for it that he enjoyed it. My grandmas chicken and waffles actually looked pretty good but for keto purposes I didn't try it. The tenders looked crispy and the waffle looked fluffy and crispy on the edges. My parents said the peaches were really good. The only thing I tried other than my food was the shrimp and grits and overall it was good, but again, lacked seasoning. It needed a kick and I didn't find it. But the texture of the grits was good with the cheese, shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sausage was well done. I was a bit disappointed in the food but I'm glad my family enjoyed their food. I'd give it about a 6/10 tbh and that's me being nice. The staff was also very nice especially when we asked to sub the Mac and cheese for fries. If they do better with the seasoning all around, I'd give a way higher rating. read more
