We ordered the Tampeqűeña steak plate (2 adult plates) with 1 enchilada, rice and beans. I asked for medium well on both plates . We also ordered churros with cajeta sauce to be picked up by me. ---- I'm beyond disgusted with the quality of the so called " steak"! 1. It did not have any grain , the meat consistency was soft and very blended / strangely a texture that my brother and had NEVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE IN OUR LIVES! I was HORRIBLE, the meat had very high ridges and then flatter ones ! My so called "steak looked like the animal had toenails/ claws on the end of one longer extension of the "meat"! My brother has just had emergency heart surgery and was finally able to eat , so he was craving a steak and enchiladas ! He actually got sick at his stomach and when I saw the " claws " , I dumped both of our orders in the garbage! I had planned on going back to the restaurant for a refund and report this STRANGE MEAT , but I couldn't leave my brother alone because he can barely walk and he got even worse when he got sick from the food poisoning!!!! Julia's Grill is not what they once were! NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I DINE OR OTHER FROM THEM ! The churros were hard and greasy . The cook looked like a high school kid working for the summer, so he overcooked the " MYSTERY MEAT " I'm afraid to actually know what they substituted for beef ! I wish I had taken photo of the " foot with claws at the end of my " mystery meat" and the price was $5.50 more per plate than the menu says and they didn't even mention it as I ordered on the phone ! Found this spot in the way home one day. I really like the interior, it was very festive and had bar seating, outdoor seating and a family area. The waitress was really nice and the food came out really fast. I had the verde enchiladas. The food was good but I feel like it was missing something. I ended up putting a lot of salsa on mine. I am not sure what was missing but it was a little under seasoned for me. The margarita was really good and for $5 happy hour, you can't beat it. read more

We were on the hunt for some food that was affordable and delicious. Thankfully, we found Julia's. The ambiance was relatively quiet and intimate. The service was also great. We had a server who was on top of it and others jumped in without asking if they saw us lacking anything. In addition, we were introduced to a wonderful new type of slaw that I would recommend: jicama and radish. Ask them about it! It's wonderfully subtle and refreshing and just a great accent given the Texas heat. We were not able to get to dessert because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs but, best believe, the Tres Leches will be sampled on the next visit. read more

We love going to Julia's either as a couple or with a large group. This is a family owned restaurant and you can definitely tell with the welcoming atmosphere. Things I love to order: Fish or shrimp tacos, fajitas (beef, chicken or carnitas), Tampiquena Steak, bacon wrapped shrimp or chicken and of course the queso and guacamole. The margaritas are some of the best in the area, not overly sweet or tart. I prefer to actually taste some of the alcohol in my drink to know that I'm getting a good drink and these definitely pass for me! If you can't decide on a drink, ask them for a suggestion! We've found some great versions of margaritas that way. read more

I love Mexican food but this place is far from Mexican I'm positive it is Spanish style food but not authentic Mexican. The service was ok. The place seems like a nice place and location but food is not what's advertised. Hot sauce is nasty and if you ask for another one they will bring it but you will be charged for it and it was horrible as well ‍. I love this place! The food is always good, margaritas are delicious and strong, and I just love Salma! She is amazing... She knows what we want and has our drinks ready for us as we sit down. She's literally one of the best servers I've ever had. The whole team is amazing and treat you like you're part of their family... From the front desk to Mr. Angel... He always makes sure to come over to say hi and chat with us; Its almost as if were having dinner over at a family member's instead of eating at a restaurant. Definitely a good find in Humble and new spot for Mexican food when in the area. When we walked in the place wasn't busy. What stood out most was their red chairs and booth, I liked it gave it a cool feel. Hostess and wait staff were friendly attentive. Ordered two tacos one soft ranchero chicken and the other ground beef hard taco. I must say I can see myself getting addicted to the soft tacos! Ranchero chicken was so flavorful, tender, and moist. I am so sad to see how much people dislike this place. I usually use Yelp to gauge all my eating experiences, but living so close to this place I decided to ignore warnings and try it out. Julia's is simplistic with decorating, but its clean and quiet and I don't go to Mexican joints for their interiors I go for food. I have eaten here three times now and I am impressed with their consistency. I would not describe this as Tex-Mex. Their flavors are unique and lend more to a Cali style Mexican. The charro beans are yummy, and I have ordered them as my meal before. The fajitas have awesome flavoring, my favorite are the Princesa ones with the lemon and cilantro. And wow the veggies cooked along with the meat are so good I have considered just ordering as a vegetarian fajita meal. Service is kind and quick and always aiming to please. So while I am sad people have rated Julia's so poorly I am glad I found this little gem. If you want a loud restaurant who decorates over the top tacky, with the usual greasy Tex-Mex stick with Mi Rancho, I will keep Julia's all to myself. read more

I honestly believe that a good number of bad reviews stem from something not being the way someone had something at another establishment, in another country, or when they had it cooked in their homes as kids. I believe that you have to try the place more than once and try more than one thing. That's just me! This was my take when I read the reviews while in the parking lot of this place. We'd passed this place for weeks and I finally decided that we were going to try it out, this past Sunday. It looked quite clean and there were a fair amount of patrons. I carefully checked the menu for what is in each dish that I might order, because I don't do "guac" and I don't do sour cream (and I don't care that anyone cares that I don't care for them). our waiter came by and he seemed like a cool dude. I ordered a burrito, which came with rice and beans (as stated at the top of the menu page) and kindly asked that no beans be put inside of my burrito and if they could spare me the "guac" and sour cream. There was no mention of them, but MOST Mexican restaurants throw them on the plate somewhere. [NOTE: I HATE IT WHEN RESTAURANTS DO NOT LIST EVERYTHING THAT IS INCLUDED IN A DISH IN THE DESCRIPTION OF SAID DISH!!! IT IS JUST PLAIN IRRESPONSIBLE AND STUPID.] After about 15 minutes the food comes out and there is rice, but in the place where beans are supposed to be (because there are no beans on the plate...does not beans in my burrito mean no beans on my plate?!) there is a chunky cole-slaw concoction bleeding this white liquid under the burrito. (I don't do cole-slaw and it did not list this on the menu.) I asked the server what it was and she explained that it was, indeed, a Latin inspired cole-slaw. The waiter came over and I expressed to him that the menu did not include this in the dish's description and he countered with a very hearty, "Yes, it did." So, I kindly asked him to allow me to reference the menu. He walked over to the front desk and as he was walking back, reading he menu, I could see him whack himself in the head with it. He came over and just said, "You're right, it doesn't say it." He asked if I wanted him to take it back (DUHH!). I asked if he could have the cook make me a new one without the slaw and he proceeded to ask, in a rather crappy tone, "What?! Are you alergic to it?!" I had to hold my composure, as my significant other told him "Yes," in order to get him to just do his freakin' job! Another 15 minutes pass and I get my dish, still with no beans to go with my rice. No use in sparring over some mashed up "free-holies" - Also, the tortilla that made up my burrito did not taste or feel home made, even it it was. It was hard to cut and lacked all the things associated with a home made tortilla. I'll try them again, but on this trip, they get three out of five from me. *Oh, and the salsa is served cold here. Just an FYI from someone who enjoys a warm salsa. The chips take more home made than most places, so that's a plus. read more

Disgusting.... Place is a cheap knockoff of a Mexican restaurant. Decor is very texmex and very short of being any kind of authentic. Food was waaaaay overpriced and had no flavor at all. My table way sticky and the service was way past poor. Everything tasted like it was out of can, no homemade tortillas... Right out of a bag. 2 times a Month we order from Julia's as takeout for our family. Always at least $70 each time. Today when our $75 order was picked up it was missing our taco order in the bag. Now we live 15min away from the restaurant so take into consideration the time it took to get there come home and go back. When I arrived the manager was agitated he asked me "what do you want for free?" I just wanted my order but without me telling him what was missing he went back into the kitchen and put the tacos into a bag. THESE TACOS ARE "DEAD". My cousin owns a restaurant he would never serve his customers something that lingered in the window and became soggy and "Dead". This is bad news Julia's you lost a potential life customer. There are 3 popular Mexican restaurants in walking distance of your location. Yours is the "Mom & Pop" of the group and I've always preferred the local businesses over the rest. I don't suspect you are doing as well as you once were considering the new restaurants moving into the area and depleting your customer base so I'm not sure if losing my business is worth it to you or not but it's definitely gone. I will be taking my business to Mi Rancho, Los Cucos, or El Refu from now on. read more

I was skeptical. These suburban 'Mexican' restaurants are usually casa-ole-ish at best. However, Julia's actually tasted good and authentic! Dined here for lunch. $8.95 for a nice portion of fajitas for one. Same price for beef/chicken/combo, which is rare. Came with rice, beans, all the toppings including sour cream and cheese ( most places charge extra) AND tortillas. Excellent meal and sizable portion. Although it was down time, after lunch rush, our server was a little short of attentiveness. All in all tasted great, and I'm sure service is usually better. Will def try again. Drink and entree prices looked very reasonable. read more

Ok food here is amazing. Nowhere in the area that I know of serves caldo. So when wife is sick craving caldo (married Mexican) I know where to go. I am not a fan of corn tortillas but these rocked. They were hand made.
