I arrived to the Bay Area a few weeks before the Covid madness and found a large mole on my lower back that was growing at a rapid rate (a few inches in just 2 weeks) I got extremely nervous, as I have history of Breast Cancer and other health complications. I contacted Dr. Julie Winfield and despite her office being close on the weekend, she immediately sent back a response. She spoke to me for 30 mins over the phone to review photos of my mole, and after the phone consultation met with me to do a biopsy. Dr. Winfield was very professional, the best manners and the warmest doctor I have ever met! I immediately felt so comfortable chatting with her that I barely noticed the procedure. I saw Dr. Windfield to check out a few moles on my body. Her office is located in Marin County, in a nice shopping center, the office is very clean and I didn't wait long. Dr. Winfield was incredibly warm and instantly made me feel very relaxed (I was nervous). She a did thorough check and scheduled a follow up appointment. The pluses: Dr. Julie Winfield's office is immaculate and brand new, located in the Corte Madera Town Center. Location is very convenient, right off the highway and in the shopping center, so parking is a piece of cake. Dr. Winfield seems very practical and somewhat conservative in her approach (i.e., she doesn't go crazy prescribing unnecessary treatments and prescriptions) and seems to be knowledgeable. Her staff is very courteous and returns calls in a timely manner. The BIG minus: I've been in her office three times in the past two months, and all three times I had to wait at least an hour to see her. It was EXTREMELY irritating, considering I was the only one in the waiting room all three times. When I got in to see her.. finally...she offered no apologies or reasons for her extreme tardiness. I'm the type of person that likes to give someone the benefit of the doubt, hence the three visits. After the third visit, I vowed to find another dermatologist who respects my time as much as I respect his/hers. read more

I came back to see Dr. Winfield 3 years after my initial visit. I've been traveling all over the world and my skin has broken out due to my diet, climate changes, and touching my face rather frequently. My job requires me to be on camera often, so having bad skin is certainly problematic. Upon returning to the US, Dr. Winfield's office is the first place I went to. Literally! The office was exactly how I remembered it to be. Clean, and relaxing. I was greeted immediately by her pleasant office manager Veronica who checked me in, and offered me water until Dr. Winfield was ready to see me. What I love most about Dr. Winfield is that she seems to genuinely care about what's going on in my life. Since she had some time before her next appointment, we spoke about my adventure in Europe, how my family was doing, and what was next for me. The service itself was outstanding. She did exactly what I came in for and recommended a handful of things that I should do in between appointments to make sure my skin looks flawless. Dr. Winfield is as good as it gets. She is highly skilled, professional and without question the most thorough doctor I have ever known. She takes the time necessary to do the job right. You are not hurried in and then hurried out, as is often the case these days. For the other reviewer who complained of waiting too long with no one else in the room, I can only imagine that Dr. Winfield was treating one or more of her patients in the exam rooms with the attention to detail that makes her special. Having extremely sensitive skin, I've needed a dermatologist for much of my adult life. Once I found Julie, 10 years ago, I've never gone looking for another. She's not only top-notch at treating my skin, but she is gentle, kind and empathetic. I only wish she could be my GP! No, she doesn't take insurance as most insurance companies don't cover much of what her patients want, I expect. That said, they *will* submit the claims for you, in case your insurance company will reimburse you. That is one less headache in my life, thank you very much. read more

This was my first visit to Dr. Winfield. What a great experience! The office is convenient and lovely, in the Town Center. The greeting was warm and inviting. When I met the doctor, my first impression was that she has a wonderful demeanor and "bedside manner." Dr. Winfield is warm and intelligent and knowledgeable. I liked that she spent plenty of time to understand and consider my needs, so there is no feeling of being rushed. Dr. Winfield's office is pretty and Dr. Winfield is engaging. HOWEVER, there is a big risk that you will get bad care. I've had two major mishaps - the latest was 4 years of having Dr. Winfield monitor a very suspicious "picture perfect" melanoma mole. Her response: "I don't think I've seen it get bigger. (How does she remember?). This would be a cut that would leave a scar. We will just watch it". Yes, we watched for 3-4 years until I showed the mole to my GP who would not let me leave the office without getting an appointment with another Dermatologist. Of course, it was melanoma. Do not miss the end of one of these reviews noting Disciplanary Action by the California Medical Board. If you want to contact the Board and find out what is behind their discipline, you may well question whether this is the kind of doctor you want working with your body. She has mandated community service requirements, so factor that in if part of the reason you want to go to her is "niceness" factor. read more

BEWARE!!!!! This doctor does not accept insurance. She will charge for a full doctors visit and then fill out paperwork to get your money back. I went to see Julie almost three weeks ago for some scar tissue that had formed (inside my lips) due to an accident. I had been very insecure about for a very long time & wanted to see what Julie could do about it after I had heard such amazing things about her. I went in and immediately was welcomed by her sweet staff Deniz. She was welcoming and very professional. After some questions regarding my visit, Julie the doctor came in. I explained to her why I was there. She reviewed my face & I was shocked at how good she is at her job! She knew exactly where the scar tissue was and where my concerning lumps were! It made me feel like finally someone who knew what they were talking about (after I had seen other doctors unsuccessfully). She injected some Cortizone for the lumps and two weeks later I barley notice them or feel them! They used to bother me so much & were one of my biggest insecurities. All the previous reviews are 100% accurate. Dr. Winfield DOES have a charming office with plush upholstered couches, silvery wall decals, and plenty of reading material, and Dr. Winfield DOES take her pleasant time (45 mins to an hour) to listen to you (not so much about your skin) but about your woes, dreams, current ambitions, long-lost relatives, etc. However, I'd rather be locked in a steel dungeon with a deaf mute staring crazily into my eyes and come out with flawless & glowing skin than be treated warmly and kindly and come out with the same problems I had coming in. She talked with me for about 55 minutes (keep in mind she charges $250/visit) about everything BUT my skin, and the in the last five minutes or so, she snatched some generic cleanser off the shelf, gives it to me, and tells me it will work wonders for my skin. A few weeks later, my skin is no better (if anything, it's gotten worse) and many areas are painfully cracked and dry. I don't have oily OR dry skin (just slight acne, more spotty), yet she failed to notice any of this. So yes, for the person who said she "doesn't go crazy prescribing unnecessary treatments and prescriptions," that would only serve as a compliment IF SHE PRESCRIBED ANYTHING AT ALL. I think it was my fault mainly, in coming into her office with the notion that dermatologists are suppose to carefully observe your skin, ask you questions about the current face wash you use, your stress level, etc. and then whip up some special concoction made just for me. Granted, Dr. Winfield was very talkative and extremely friendly and I probably sound very rude and unappreciative of those qualities, but the problem with the whole visit was that I didn't go there to chat with her. I didn't go there to socialize or to have someone listen to me. I went there because I was disappointed with my skin, and my high hopes that this disappointment would diminish were met with no avail. And that alone is understandably frustrating. Dr. Winfield is super awesome! She greeted me with a smile and listened to my concerns about moles, blemishes, and even music. She was able to attend to my needs right there in the office at the drop of a hat, and I felt she gave me her full attention the entire time she was with me. I could go on about the details of the visit, but that would be strange. While I was waiting for the appointment to begin, I found the office to be quite calming with plenty of reading material to distract me until it was my turn. Also, the receptionist was friendly, helpful and courteous, both in person and over the phone while I scheduled my visit. All I know is, Dr. Winfield and her staff are a breath of fresh air compared to my last dermatologist, who tended to have rude, impersonal staff, and the kicker of it all is they've known me since I was a kid! And no, I wasn't a bad kid. Dr. Winfield is the exact 180 and it was my first visit. She didn't even know me, but by the time I left her office I felt like asking her to be the godmother to my unborn child. Lovely disposition; lovely office. Don't be fooled. Her fees are outrageous. She charged me $500. for a 30 minute consult, most of which was chit chat, and to use liquid nitrogen on some brown spots. i pointed out 3 that I wanted treated. She was so engaged in her conversation, I had to point out the second one twice and the 3rd one she never did get to but she suggested 4 or 5 others and then decided she had to go over some of them 2 or 3 times. Apparently,she charged for each time because suddenly my bill was in a whole new category. I was shocked by the bill and not satisfied with the service. On a recent visit to California I came down with a painful, itchy rash... I ignored it, but it kept getting worse, until my girlfriend's mother insisted that I see a doctor.
