The food at Jumbars is totally worth 5 stars. Unfortunately the service doesn't quite make the 5-star rating. You definitely need to allow yourself at least an hour or more for breakfast on the weekends, and that's if you get there early. Like the menu suggests, start with a wonderful grilled muffin (I suggest the corn muffin with Jack cheese and a large dollop of homemade pepper jelly) and then take your time enjoying it. It will take quite a while for your breakfasts to arrive. But no worries, because it is the best breakfast in town. The house made sausage is extraordinary. The specials are always quite tasty and have never disappointed. Just make sure you ask if they have any additional specials not listed. They don't rush you (quite the contrary) though the throngs of waiting diners will most likely make you want to eventually vacate your table. read more

Okay. First off I am the number one supporter of sustainable organic and I really wanted to love this place; however, there was nothing absolutely fabulous about Jumbars. Granted I did just have an omelette so maybe the sweeter entrees were to die for. Nevertheless this place was sub par and the service made it a two star rating for me. Our waitress wasn't very friendly and did not provide good customer service. If you want to get a seat without the wait, I definitely recommend calling ahead 15 minutes before to get a table. While they don't take reservations, they will call you and let you know when a table is available which is pretty awesome, especially for the claustrophobic type because the waiting area is really tight. It's especially useful on Sundays because any breakfast place in town worth going to is going to be packed. Lastly, in my opinion, if you want a great breakfast place in Bethlehem, go for Blue Sky Cafe or Horns (Horns serves breakfast Saturday mornings only): both have the sights of downtown, sustainable and relatively healthy options, and awesome, friendly service. read more

Breakfast or brunch is always better at Jumbars. Eclectic, interesting food, affordable prices and family spirited service make this place a jewel in the Lehigh Valley. Far superior to 5 star places for brunch, better than most NYC places, from the duffin with dark chocolate to the splendiferous specials (my friend and I had duck hash with poached eggs and a St. Pat's day special of soda bread), this charming off the beaten Bethlehem track is a must find. Service is exceptional, charming and gracious. You never wait for a coffee refill; the jams are home made; the bakery should be its own place! Hess's patio strawberry pie flashback for those old enough to remember would be worth a visit, alas there is so much more. Advice: get there early as the place's deliciousness is known and the small space fills up quickly. Jumbars makes me wish every day was Sunday as its the only time for us early workers to visit.. Cozy atmosphere light jazz super helpful staff. I was torn between the frittata made with yam, and the pumpkin pancakes ( made with pumpkin from local farm). Hostess suggested-getting frittata without the toast and a single pancake. Coffee had nice flavor black and tea bar was very inviting. I was by myself but can't wait to come back with a friend. If you want something healthy and cold to drink the "Ichabod Crane" half cranberry juice and half green tea hits the spot. Went for lunch last week, my husband and I had salads.They were small (and were not "side" salads) for the price we paid. No rolls or bread are served with them.The salads were fresh and service was good. In the past, they have had special "Quiche of the Day"-not anymore.The waitress showed us the list of quiches they offer.I wasn't interested in the ones they had. Breakfast is delish!! Cute place but WAY too crammed with tables. I had to squuuueeze into my seat to accommodate the guy behind me because he refused to pull in his chair (if he even could). When we got up to pay the bill, I felt like I was pac-man trying to make my way around the maze to avoid others. Service. Is. Terrible. We waited at least an hour or more for our food to come out. Asked for a glass of water and it was forgotten multiple times. We called ahead for seating and I think it was just luck we got there when a table was open. The food was good, but those who came in after us got food way before us and an hour for an omelette and a piece of quiche is a little much. I understand that a wait is necessary, but this seemed a little more than was really needed.The prices were reasonable. Pretty cool that jams and condiments are offered freely at a table where you serve yourself. NOT A PLACE TO BRING SMALL CHILDREN. I brought my 4 and 2 year old here for breakfast. We paid nearly $30 for pancakes, French toast, and juice. We waiting for over 30 minutes for our food until I finally asked them to pack it up to go. It took another 10-15 minute before they actually brought the food out. The first table we tried to sit at had one long hair on top of it. The second table had one shorter hair on top. We should've left then. 30 minutes later, we got our food and were told there's a 'buffet' of condiments with homemade jams. I go to the table and open the peach jam and jumped backward, surprised to see a bunch of bugs crawling around in the jar. That was it for me, I wasn't interested in eating a bite of anything we had. I told our server who was not surprised, and said she thought they had a 'handle on it.' No apology, she brought the check and said she took my meal off. I love the decor and their Quiche Lorraine. Everything is excellent about that quiche. I recently had potatoes with the quiche, but could not eat them. Not sure what they cooked them in. The taste was not a good one (to me). Some of the potatoes were hard (not cooked enough), but I was too timid to complain. You have to wait for the food to be served, but that is a plus. They make most things fresh, so though others have complained about that wait, that does not bother me. I appreciate the freshness. THE FOOD IS WORTH THE WAIT. In past years, I have felt at times that the greeter and or the waiters were doing me a favor by interacting with me. Some did not make me feel welcome. But over the years I feel that the demeanor of the front of house staff has vastly improved. Well done, you all! Some complain about having to wait to be seated. This is my absolute favorite lunch spot in the Lehigh Valley. It is a totally relaxed atmosphere, and feels more like an extension of your mother's kitchen than a restaurant, so if you're in a hurry, this place isn't for you. They make made to order sandwiches, salads and quiches which are always fresh and tasty. It's technically a coffeehouse/deli, but they offer better than average fare, like a hot ham and cheese sandwich with pinapple and peppers - delish! My wife and I had breakfast at Jumbars today. It was the best breakfast we have had since moving to the Lehigh Valley two years ago. This hidden gem is open for breakfast and lunch and two minutes into our meal we both said,"We are definitely coming back here." The service was excellent, as was everything we tasted. We can't wait to come back for lunch, though breakfast was so good, I'm not sure when we will get to lunch there! Great place in Bethlehem for brunch! Came here with a group of 4 on a Sunday morning and split an omelet and the french toast. Both were great. The service is very friendly. The atmosphere reminds me of a tea room or Bed and Breakfast. I wouldn't come here for a very quick breakfast, its better not to rush it. Although, if you're in a hurry I hear the berry muffins are delicious. I love that they promote local ingredients and support local farms. Some things are worth waiting for. This cute breakfast spot has friendly wait staff and consistently delicious meals. The veg options are plentiful and delicious. The savory strata (with mushroom gravy) and the tofu scramble are my favorites. I also once ordered a gazpacho that was awesome as well. From what I've been told by my omnivorous partner in dining, the meat dishes are also on point. The service here is solid. Your coffee mug will never be empty. The restaurant is definitely cozy and seating is limited. On Sunday mornings, there is usually a short wait for a table for two, and you'll likely wait longer with a larger party. Just had a delicious breakfast with horrendous service. It greatly undermined the quality of the food. Maybe if I return it will be with four or less, eight of us was apparently too much for them. I sure hope that was the reason, waiting 30 minutes for water, coffee, and juice and on top of that half the order was wrong. We love brunch. LOVE brunch. When we moved to Bethlehem, we were pretty serious about finding the place that was going to be "ours." Jumbar's is it. For my money, the only two other places in the same class are Billy's and Blue Sky. All three are crowded every weekend, and all three are similarly priced. Jumbar's wins hands down--atmosphere (though similar quality food) kills blue sky (fewer hung over Lehigh students, less greasy feel, plus Blue Sky recently raised prices and eliminated some things that used to be free), and a better regular menu without the folks waiting for a table hovering over your table edges out Billy's. Jumbar's has friendly service, a warm, homey atmosphere, a solid regular menu (though I wish specials rotated more often), and great baked goods/home made jam. The New England Omlette is particularly good. Definitely call ahead on the weekends--big time waits, but sometimes can sneak in with little to no wait if you are lucky. During the warmer months, some outside seating takes some of the pressure off the wait time. read more

I took my wife here on a Groupon special. Looked great from the ads and reviews but it was such a disappointment. The restaurant was only halfway full and the service was abominable considering what we paid to eat here. Fellow coworkers had told me how great this place was and how it lived up to the old Huckleberries cafe that used to be there. I really wanted to give this place a try and it was disappointing. The entire waiter situation here was utterly chaotic. There were two waiters who took orders and nobody every wrote anything down. I ordered the chilled cantaloupe soup from the specials and somehow I ended up with a bowl of chili. I asked for white bread and I got wheat on my sandwich. Drinks were never refilled and when the food did come the dishes were delivered haphazardly. It was also quite a wait for two sandwiches. We tried the meatloaf sandwich and a turkey sandwich. Both were fairly average. To be honest I've had a better turkey sandwich at Goosey Gander. We also sampled the english muffin and fresh rolls. I do have to say that the bakery items at Jumbars were to die for. The bread was really excellent. The wife really liked the coffee cake as well. However the chocolate raspberry cake that we ordered was mediocre. I've had better cake at the Hellertown Diner. Yes I do know that their food is "homemade" and is supposed to take a long time and it's supposed to be "quality" at the expense of speed and price. But other than the bread and coffee cake it was just..... average. I don't know where the reputation of this place comes from. I've eaten at plenty of places where the food lived up to the prices and this just wasn't it. Overall, the entire place felt pretentious and the prices matched that attitude. I wouldn't go back again! At least I had a Groupon to lessen the blow of the check. I would summarize the attitude of the snooty waitstaff as "we could care less about working here." I love this place! Nothing is frozen, very fresh and local ingredients. Since everything is made to order, the wait time is a smidgen longer if the place is packed. The homemade jams and scones- unreal! My favorites are the Greek and Jenny egg white omelets. I usually get sautéd veggies instead of potatoes. The fruit cup is amazing as well!
