summary: a small shop that sells all sorts of things from bubble tea, to fried chicken, and even noodles. Flavor is great, but there are some things I think worth noting before dining here. As far as service goes, there's a person that takes orders and brings the food to you, but that's basically all of the interaction. I feel like the restaurant wants to be more of a grab & go place vs. a dine-in place. There's about 4 tables set up and it's pretty crammed in a small hallway (no tables exceed 3 seats). This is an odd complaint, but they use some of the flimsiest plastic utensils I've ever used. The actual dining logistics aside, we came for the food and it didn't disappoint. I personally found the Taiwanese Fried chicken to be the star of the food. It's perfectly crispy and has a great flavor to it. The mango habenero wings had good flavor, but were on the slightly sweet side for me. The noodle dishes had good depth of flavor. The string beans were kind of meh for me. Never been here. We were in the area for a viewing. A good friend recommended it - her kids favorite place. I ordered the Taiwanese chicken combo. I also got their spicy fried green beans - it has a good taste but I prefer a much crunchier texture. Overall everything was YUMMY!!! Service was good and the food came out piping hot. My go to Taiwanese popcorn spot! Their chicken is perfectly seasoned and fried. Service is pretty fast, and they are always so nice and accommodating. Jumbo jumbo is SMALL, with just two tables & a handful of barstools. I typically order mine to go. I'd recommend getting the popcorn chicken vs. the combo, combo comes with rice and sides but I feel that the regular chicken is worth more bang for buck (I also have rice at home all the time haha). I love Jumbo Jumbo! I wish it came to Northern Virginia. I was on my way back from a road trip when my friend and I had a hankering for Taiwanese popcorn chicken. We were close to Ellicott City, so we decided to stop by here, since he's never had Jumbo Jumbo. Everyone was super nice here, and everything came out within 15-20 minutes (mine took longer, since I had more to-go orders). I like that there's spice levels for people, and that there's a lot of different options for people with certain tastes/ dietary restrictions. I will say that the "mild" for the popcorn chicken doesn't have that much heat, so I might go for the spicy next time to get heat (I ordered a mild + a black pepper). The tofu looks good in the pic, but became super soggy within 5 minutes of receiving the order. I think I might skip out on the tofu next time, but it usually isn't like that each time I order. The squid ran out, but I would order that next time. There were only about 2 staff members during the Saturday afternoon rush, so I might recommend getting 1 more staff member during that time, as it was fairly busy (all seats were taken and there were a few people in line). read more

We ordered the beef soup, their house chicken and string beans, all of which were amazing, very close to what we experienced in Taiwan. The cashier was very nice and even though was the only one working the front, she still brought food to our table, which was very kind. What my Taiwanese friend describes as street food, and what I'd call delicious & excellent value. The spiced fried chicken is the best version of "popcorn chicken" you'll ever have, and you'll be even happier if you get it with the rice & ground pork. As in all Asian cultures, rice is never a throw-away side. Their rice is just right (cohesive grains, slightly sticky but not clumped). With the ground pork, it's a small entree by itself. The seasoned fried string beans, steaming hot and fresh? Yes please! I finished mine before even leaving the parking lot. Delicious. All the portions are generous. There were a number of people waiting for their tea orders when I was there, but I think the hot food is the star attraction. There are several Jumbo Jumbo locations but this has probably been the best I've been to! I went yesterday around lunch time and it was unfortunately very quiet. The establishment is clean and service is attentive and quick. I ordered the Taiwanese chicken combo with tofu and squid balls (the chicken alone is good as well!) They've organized delivery companies into different signages "uber eats, grubhub, etc" and I appreciate how clean it is during these times. My only complaint is that their bathroom is currently unavailable to the public (even paying customers). If I'm ever in the area, I'd be happy to return for their boba! read more

I came for the beef noodle soup and was pleased. Not impressed but pleased considering it's hard to find traditional Taiwanese beef noodle soup in the area. I also tried the fried combo and did not enjoy it. The chicken was okay. It was more spicy than flavorful. I wish there had been a sauce to dip with. The tofu was bland and the squid balls were just not my thing. They were very fishy flavored (normally I like squid or fish balls). I did ask for extra seasoned eggs and enjoyed them. My eyes were bulging when the Taiwanese chicken combo came out. The portion size was generous and HUGE. Definitely is enough to feed two people or make two meals out of it if you have a modest appetite. I had leftovers for lunch the following day. Although they are known for their Taiwanese chicken, I thought the seasoning was overpowering and too strong for my preference. I did, however, enjoy the ground pork, rice, and the seasoned hard boiled egg I got on the side. I would get the ground pork, rice, and egg again. When I had the leftovers the following day, I dipped my chicken into Chick-fil-A sauce and that helped make the seasoning less strong. I also got the taro bubble tea which was tasty. Service was great. I was warmly greeted coming in. She told me when she brought me my food to let her know if I needed anything. Upon leaving, I was acknowledged and asked how everything was. The cafe is small with three tables with two seats and some counters that you can stand and eat by the windows. I am a neat freak so was thoroughly impressed by how immaculate the cafe was including the restroom. It got my stamp of approval. Lol. The only thing I would change is replacing the air hand dryer with paper towels because I heard from a study that said hand dryers are unsanitary. I was craving fried chicken and was in the area - and coming here made my lunchtime so much better!! Got the Taiwanese fried chicken combo with an almond milk tea. Let me tell you -- the chicken was so juicy and smothered in seasoning/spices! You can also choose your level of spice. It had that perfect "popcorn" texture, and there was a lot of it too. I was very full, and me and my boyfriend were even sharing it! The other side of the combo was ground meat/cabbage over rice (another Taiwanese staple that I've had before) but it was a bit disappointing because there was very little of the ground meat/cabbage in this one, it was mostly rice, and wasn't particularly flavorful. Good thing the chicken balanced that all out! The boba was average to good; the best part was that the medium was quite large, although we did end up spending over $5 for it. The boba came out very quickly though. We came on a Saturday noon and it wasn't too busy. We were able to sit inside (4 small tables). Inside is clean and neat. Came on a Sunday afternoon with a hankering for chicken and I wasn't disappointed! There are a few small tables for two against a wall, with decent space between each to maintain social distancing. Our drinks were brought out almost immediately and the food was ready in 5 minutes. The Taiwanese chicken was so crispy and juicy, and very well seasoned. The plate was piled high with chicken- I'd say over half of the plate was chicken and the rest was their ground pork over rice. The crispy Asian chicken combo was also very tasty. We were given 3 wings and 3 drums and they were all decently sized. You have the option to customize the spice level if you want! The dry spice blend adds a nice punch of heat to the chicken. The pork over rice was a nice side, but there was almost a bit too much rice for how much of the pork sauce we were given. We got to try their new mango habanero sauce (rolling out next week!) with our food- it was quite sweet and not spicy at all. I also ordered the lemon and oval kumquat tea and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor, although the lemon definitely dominated the drink. Half sugar was definitely sweet enough- I almost feel like I could have gone down a bit more on the sugar! Between the two of us, we probably finished half of the food we were given, and took the rest home as leftovers. This just might be my new favorite chicken spot in the area! read more

I typed in must eat on Yelp near Ellicot city and Jumbo Jumbo cafe popped up! I stopped by for some taiwanese fried chicken and it was delicious. I ordered it as mild and it still had a nice spicy kick to it. Eating here reminded me me of eating night market food in Taiwan! They also serve bubble tea and a bunch of other taiwanese treats. I can't wait to get back and try everything else out. In dining is currently closed but it looks like they do have a bunch of small tables on the side when they reopen. Fried Squid it is. Ordered the mild chicken first and then put in a single order of spicy chicken after pick up as I wanted to try the different heat levels. Chicken was very good. Liked the pork and rice combo addition also-mixed well together and portions were substantial. Surprisingly the mild seemed more seasoned than the spicy and the spicy wasn't really much different from mild but it did have a slight ghost pepper finish. Squid was okay. Some of the pieces were chewy. Service was okay. Excellent via ordering process. That said, I didn't get the best response when I curiously asked if sauces came with the entrees-so don't make the mistake of asking about sauces. As someone who loves spicy food, but can't handle it well, these weren't too spicy but definitely has a good amount of kick The combos came with a side of braised pork and cabbage over rice. They gave enough rice that you can split it between two people if you want. The also put enough braised pork for all of the rice, which I appreciate. I got a small plum green tea with 50% sugar and it was good as well! Reminds of the Chinese plum drink but less sour. They gave us a mango sauce for us to try. I personally didn't like it because I found it too sweet. However, if you have a sweet tooth, you'll like it (kind of reminded me of sweet chili sauce). Parking was easy to find. The soup base is solid, the beef is delicious and not overcooked, and the only small issue I have is that the noodles aren't "Q" or al dente, but honestly it's pretty good.
