We were hungry and looking for a local mom and pop place to eat so I jumped on Yelp and found this…read moreplace on the map. I found this place and we had like 40 minutes to get there before they closed. As we started to drive there we were wondering if the GPS was taking us on a wild ride because we ended up driving on some rural roads and thought, there's no way there's a restaurant back here but a few minutes later we arrived to a cute rustic looking caboose looking café. The interior was authentic and rustic and even smelled like real food being cooked on a griddle smell. Our waitress came right over and welcomed us to sit wherever we want to. Their menu was homemade country filled items. I ordered the Club Sandwich which was their daily special and I went with their potatoe salad which is something I don't like to order because it's one of those items that I'm never really sure if its going to be homemade or store bought. My husband went with the cheeseburger and fries. It didn't take long for our meal to arrive. I loved how the plates didn't match, just like at home lol, and the potato salad was homemade and it was good. My Club Sandwich was good and the vegetables were California fresh. My husband said his cheeseburger was cooked right and tasted like it was cooked on a seasoned grill. I definitely know if when we are back in the area, we definitely will be coming back to this little spot.

Not bad for a stationary railroad car in La Colonia, without a conductor pulling the hand break, because some tonto in a car or truck decided to race under the crossing rails! Clean restrooms! Friendly service! The ownership has changed, but the cool cook has been there for several years! Oscar, the server and more, will always make you feel welcome and make sure that everything is perfect!

I arrived around 5:15pm and there were a couple of cars in the parking lot. I expected to see patrons in the seating area however, it was empty. Their hours are 6am to 6pm so I felt kind of bad showing up 45 mins before closing. The staff was very kind and friendly and didn't show any signs of being bothered that I was there. I was out by 5:30 to take my food home. I ordered a Jr. Cheeseburger for my son, nothing on it, just meat and cheese. I didn't specifically say "no sauce" so it did have some thousand island type sauce on it. Honestly, my son had no idea and ate almost all of it before he opened it and saw it and suddenly didnt like it. (He liked it, he just doesn't like things to be different) perfect size for a child's burger. A little bigger than a McDonald's burger. My husband ordered the pastrami which comes with pickles and mustard. He added Swiss cheese and says it could have used a little more than what they added. According to him it was good, but nothing remarkable and it had plenty of meat. No negative comments. I had the bacon cheeseburger which came with chopped lettuce, tomato, pickles, and that Thousand Island type pink sauce. The burger was good, it had the taste I was craving. That flat grill char really hit the spot. My burger was drippy. There was one large tomato slice that fit the entire burger. I had to drop some of the lettuce out because it kept falling out anyway and I wanted to have more of the other flavors pop. There was about two slices of bacon and only 3 pickle chips. I personally love pickles so I would ask for extra next time. I also ordered a large fry and large onion ring to share. I preferred the fries over the onion rings but both were good. I like BBQ sauce with my onion rings but I was not a fan of their BBQ. I don't know how to explain the flavor. It was a runny sauce and had almost this Mexican spice flavor to it. I mixed some ranch with it and I liked it better that way. I also ordered a piece of baklava. They said they get other from someone who makes it at home. Risky? Maybe. Worth it? Oh yeah.

The colossal burger is freakin delish; pastrami and ground beef with special sauce and melted cheese. Get the combo and have some phatty steak fries and a soda drink. I love the service and the style of this place. Even the drive out there is good for the soul. I highly recommend Golden Bull. Its become my new favorite spot to eat and enjoy some peace of mind.
