I wanted a veggie bowl and they delivered along with being willing to replace the egg with some sweet potatoes (they also offered mushrooms and a few other options) as I don't eat eggs. I appreciated that they had available options. The bowl kept me full and was sooo delicious along with refreshing during the summer time. They have the beautiful outdoor seating options in the back and such a mellow place to meet up for lunch. Staff was friendly, and helpful

Such a beautiful day to enjoy the downtown location of Cafe Smitten! We grabbed a table on the patio, and it felt so peaceful with the overhanging trees and birds in the background -- the perfect little escape right in the city. Service was quick and genuinely friendly. I always go for the quinoa bowl, and today it was especially good -- the sweet potatoes were perfectly crispy. Paired it with a chai latte that had just the right amount of spice. We decided to splurge on a sweet waffle, and I'm so glad we did. The matcha whipped cream was absolutely delicious. Definitely one of my favorite downtown spots!
I stopped by Café Smitten on 18th Street after missing breakfast while meeting some workmen downtown. It was a quick visit, but a really pleasant one. They included fresh strawberries and blueberries, golden raisins, a bit of brown sugar, and some milk to mix in. Everything tasted great and it was just a really nice start to the day. If you find yourself in the downtown area, give Cafe Smitten a try.

They mostly have tables for 2-4 seaters, but they do have one long table with bar stools (however, it's usually preoccupied by people studying!). It comes nice and hot, perfect for the cold weather!! My friends all got burritos / steak wraps, but felt that their meat was pretty dry and tasteless. I feel that it is inconsistently made because when I was leaving, I happened to notice another customer got a really beautiful dark green matcha. My friend also got a chai which she felt was toooo overpowered by the amount of cinnamon that was added. The cinnamon brown sugar coffee was strong and sweet though! I personally would return just to give it another try / try other items on the menu!

They have a private lot and plenty of street parking in the area. You order at the cashier and they'll give you a number and you seat yourself. There is a front outdoor area, indoor seating, and a nice shaded back patio. Their menu had so many tasty options to choose from. We both ended up getting the Moroccan Eggs ($14.50/each) and Blackberry Lemonade MimoSmitten ($8/each). There were convenient self-serve water stations around the restaurant. We also grabbed some water and then headed to the back patio where there were many shaded tables. The food was soooooo delicious. Our Moroccan eggs came with toasted bread to dip into the tomato base. The meal also came with some tomato and cucumbers, pickles, and a creamy sauce. My favorite bites of the meal is definitely when the poached egg mixed with the tomato and onions and I ate all of that in one bite with some toasted bread. Yum! We both enjoyed our meal here and would definitely come back. The mimosmitten was also really refreshing and fun. I also really liked that we were able to chat and catch up and linger on a bit without feeling rushed. Overall a great spot for brunch. I'll definitely want to try their lattes the next time I come here.

This place is so delicious. I popped in today and discovered that they have a pistachio muffin, which is amazing. I highly recommend it. Their coffee is always fresh and delicious and brewed just right. Their lattes have the right amount of milk and foam. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The café is not too busy right when they open and throughout the day, it just gets busier and busier, and sometimes seating can be hard to find. If you're looking for a breakfast and need some head downtime to work on things on a device... There are a few seating options where you can connect and work on their free Wi-Fi. Enjoy
Went to Smitten downtown for breakfast with some friends before a morning of shopping. We each ordered a coffee and shared a toast flight, which ended up being the perfect thing to share. The first toast was peanut butter and strawberry jelly topped with coconut flakes. The second was almond butter and banana with cocoa nibs, honey, and cinnamon. The third was Nutella and hazelnuts topped with strawberries and coconut flakes. They were all delicious, but my favorite was definitely the Nutella and hazelnut toast. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and the variety made it fun to share and try different combinations. Service was quick and friendly. The ambiance is a cute cafe vibe. You place order at the counter and someone brings your order to your table. Smitten is definitely a must-visit spot when downtown for breakfast. read more

SMITTENS STAPLE IS THEIR ABILITY TO MISS THE FLAVOR IN EVER SINGLE DISH. Update: coming back after some palate development... smitten is one of the most tasteless restaurants in town. Their hype was definitely due to the 'aesthetic'. Nothing is really outstanding to me. The drinks are such a let down, the coffee is borderline yuck.. do not recommend. Everything is quite unmemorable. Service is whatever, sometimes mid, sometimes bad. Nothing outstanding. Ambiance.... well... this one has been replicated one too many times. The food is heavily missing flavor,the hummus is disgusting. I can't believe they call that thing hummus, it's an insult to actual dish.. it's almost like it was trying to imitate the real dish, but failed terribly in even attempting to. Their pizza tasted like play-doh and looked very pale. Smitten is at least consistent with one thing, which is their staple: no flavor. One of the breaking points for me was being served food that had someone's HAIR. The restaurant is very expensive for the poor experience they have to offer. We drove by on a rainy day as we were making our way down south, and wanted a cozy coffee shop where you know the coffee would be on point - and this place delivered! Cute cafe place! Pretty good mediterranean influenced food as well as great saladas and burgers. They have a selection of good breakfast toasts as well. My fav is the Caesar salad with the chicken added. I get it every time it is very filling too! read more

I'm on a restricted diet & was SO happy to have accommodations from Cafe Smitten. They have some of the best & most elaborate items to eat. I've had numerous delicious dishes in the past from here but I loved that they were able to serve me a simple plate of eggs, avocado, fruit & black coffee. It was all great & cheap. My friend got a scone with jalapeño & cheese, as well as that amazing coffee drink. I love this environment. Such a cute, ambient little place. I loved their merchandise & that they have their own coffee brand! I also ADORE the case with all the delicious baked goods staring at me. read more
Got a free gift card from work for Cafe smitten didn't even know existed pretty nice joint to go to very quaint Got a full plethora of a menu not just coffee a lot of sandwiches lot of pastries very nice spot to just chill The coffee that I got was on point different t's different sandwiches to choose from I would say a little expensive but hey it's worth it I got a croissant It was really good definitely recommend this spot they got two locations I went to the location downtown I didn't take any pictures of outside of their logo but their logos big print on the side of the building You can't miss it when you coming down the street definitely recommend this spot read more

We stopped in for breakfast after first trying a little hole-in-the-wall nearby and decided to look for something else--Café Smitten popped up, and we're so glad it did! The line was long, but we decided to give it a try. There was only one person manning the coffee bar, so we thought it might take a while, but service was impressively quick. I ordered a vanilla latte with oat milk, and my husband got a drip coffee. For food, we had the mushroom omelet, the breakfast burrito (we added steak), and we shared the gluten-free oatmeal. My latte came out within two minutes of sitting down, and the food followed shortly after. Everything was so good fresh, and flavorful. Don't be intimidated by the long line they really know how to keep things moving. This place was absolutely on point! We'll definitely be back. read more

Fast casual cafe with modern interiors and outdoor seating which is nice if you get there early enough to beat the brazen Central Valley heat. The Moroccan Eggs is similar to Shakshouka (which is hard to find on a menu though it's a reliable brunch entree.) When we went, they had a variety of pie slices though I'm unsure if it's just a seasonal offer as it's not featured on their menu. read more
Have been meaning to go here because I have heard about their Moroccan eggs. Went here on a Saturday, a little bit before lunch and unfortunately, I was a bit full so just decided to go for coffee and poppy seed cake slice. Went for a cold latte, forgot what flavor it was but it was one of those seasonal ones on the menu. Loved the coffee, strong yet creamy, I think I went for the lower-calorie option so I think it gave me the caffeine but ensuring I can indulge on their cake slice. The cake was nice and moist, definitely a good accompaniment to my coffee. Place was chill yet comfy, I feel like it caters to the younger-ish crowd but not loud at all. I love the Bakersfield products on the shelf. Definitely a place to bring out-of-town guests and maybe go for their Moroccan eggs next time! read more

Service was 5/5 very friendly and quick. They bring your items to you and yea cute little place with a warm welcoming ambiance. Almond banana toast- smaller than I thought but good stuff. I wouldn't say I was blown away but I did like that all the ingredients tasted fresh and not cheap grocery store. I wish I recalled the name but it was the gingerbread? Holiday drink? Again, not blown away but it was good. Overall a nice little cafe, I'm inclined to say 3.5 stars vs 4 but don't feel comfortable listing it as 3 read more

Customer service was just okay, I asked if they had a white chocolate mocha and instead of suggesting another drink she said "no." If I had a business I would train my employees to suggest alternatives to increase my profit and keep my customers happy. The food was pretty good, and the little cafe was very cute. I love that there was plenty of parking, and it was well decorated. The outside patio was definitely a plus. read more
I absolutely love this place. Their coffee isn't the greatest, but the ambiance, the back patio, their mimosa flight and those savory waffles are so good! I love coming here to catch up with friends on slow weekend mornings. The staff is friendly and it's just a great bakersfield spot. read more

It's been awhile since I've eaten at Cafe Smitten! Glad I was able to bring my family in this time from brunch. It was super packed and outside seating wasn't an option due to the small amount of rain that occurred. However, we were to snag a couple seats near the counter which was nice! I got an iced matcha latte with nutella + hazelnut toast and my brother got an iced mocha with steak wrap and a salad on the side. The iced matcha latte was good but the matcha was mild tasting and I'm used to stronger matcha. The toast was really good, I definitely would get it again. My brother liked the iced mocha as well as the steak wrap! read more

We do have some organic ingredients. Our coffees and teas are USDA certified organic. We do our best to source local, fresh products.
