First Time at the Red Wagon Cafe

First and Foremost Jessica was/is an absolute excellent server. Glad we found this place about 5-6 miles or 10 minutes from the house.. Yes Please!! The food Chicken fried steak, large pancake , ribeye steak and French toast meal with hashbrowns and 2 eggs over medium... The chicken fried steak had a crispy exterior, complemented by tender meat, and a very rich gravy to compliment, creating a delightful contrast in textures. The large pancake was fluffy (thicccc) and satisfying, with a perfect balance of sweetness before you even added the syrup. The ribeye steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, though the meat was a lower quality than most other breakfast business I've been to it was still very good. . The French toast was a delightful mix of softness and crunch, eggs cooked perfectly and hashbrowns extra crispy like we like em. I don't eat pancakes/waffles but twice a month this may be my new pancake place ... Anyhoo show up to this gem of a place with great signs all over the inside that remind you of a country diner out in the Virginia or North Carolina about 10:30 or later to miss the crowd and the wait.. Til we meet again...

The red wagon is one of those places that's been around forever but because of its location it's over looked. It's situated off 7th Standard and Enos Ln heading towards Shafter. In the past I would go for lunch and their Hamburgers are excellent. This time I went for breakfast and I have to say it was pretty darn good. I had the biscuit's and gravy with hash browns and bacon which was okay. I'd give the B&G about a 8/10 and the hash browns and bacon about a 7/10. The B&G lacked a bit of seasoning for my taste but was good and the Hash browns needed to be a cooked just a tad bit longer along with bacon but that just might be a personel preference. I have to say the star of the show was the chicken fried steak it was cooked to perfection and was seasoned perfectly, definitely a 10 outta 10. As for the service , it was excellent ambiance as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is pretty small there are no big tables but could sit a big family utilizing two tables I suppose.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will definitely be returning and getting the CFS breakfast this time around.

Amazing food, flavorful and fresh. Service is friendly and quick, perfect. Wagon is small but doesn't feel as small as it is. Cozy and bright, loved it! Best biscuits I've ever had!

Really enjoyed the food, unique ambiance and service at this one of a kind breakfast and lunch restaurant and of course the many friendly locals who dine here. Also many thanks to server, Oscar and chef, Miguel for their spot on service and delicious breakfast!

What a find! Four of us stopped for breakfast. Biscuits and gravy are some of the best we'd ever had. Biscuits are flakey and very flavorful. The sausage gravy is standout. Quality sausage in a flavorful white gravy. Chorizo and egg scramble was huge! This is an excellent chorizo, quality pork and nicely spiced. It is a spicy seasoning mix which I like. The country potatoes were tender and moist inside. Good onions and peppers gave extra flavor. Rig City coffee, a special roast for Red Wagon, was a hit with us all. Excellent coffee. On a busy day you may need to wait outside. Do it. Red Wagon is not to be missed!

I had only been to the red wagon once in my life and that was so many years ago. I had been wanting to go and try it out ever since new owners took over. My sister took me to breakfast for my birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted right away and seated quickly. Everything looked clean. It is a small restaurant, but there is a cute charm to it. It makes you feel at home. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered the Denver omelette with country potatoes, sourdough toast, a pancake, and biscuits and gravy. We wanted to taste a little bit of everything. Our order came out fast and fresh. Everything tasted amazing! The portions are big so you could share if you wanted to. The potatoes were my fav! If you're ever in Shafter please go check out this cute place!

Wonderful Environment! Great Food! Friendly Service! This family-owned restaurant, has innovative surprises, like farm-fresh cherries, homemade clam chowder, and Grandma's green salsa.

Service was fast, staff was pleasant so everything was fantastic! So far, food has been good and I definitely will come back. It's way on the other side of town for me, but it's nice seeing lots of brunch options in Bakersfield these days. Breakfast is my absolute favorite meal of the day, so it's nice to know I have another option. There's lots of parking which is a plus, the other places struggle with parking which makes it hard to visit. Restaurant looks clean, it looks family oriented and they have tons of options for the family. They have tons of tables too, so there's room for everyone. The place stays busy so you know the food is fresh and they keep your coffee cup filled. I'm not sure how long this has been here since I barely visited last year, but if you haven't stopped by you definitely need to check it out.

MAN'S BEST FRIEND Omelette $18.59 sausage, bacon, ham, cheddar & monterey jack cheese. I added diced onions. I ordered the hash brown option and pancake. Per their website, one of their specialties are the "fluffy pancakes". Omelette had decent amounts of diced ham, sausage and bacon. I found this to be an omelette large enough to share. Hash browns were standard. Pancake was okay but nothing truly spectacular, just average in taste. The pancake was oversized enough to share. Overall I gave this a 8/10 2. PAUL BUNYAN $21.99, two eggs, two bacon, two sausage, a 1/2 pound ham. Ordered with country potatoes and Rye toast. The bacon was amazing!! Thick cut bacon and cooked to perfection. Overall the breakfast was your standard breakfast and definitely large enough to share. 8/10 Restaurant was clean, tables were cleaned off as soon as customers left. And restrooms were clean and fully stocked. Plenty of free parking. Waitstaff were friendly and efficient. The ambiance is pretty laid back. They also have an ice cream bar with 26 gourmet ice cream flavors.

One gets a generous portion and the sandwich was big enough for my husband and I to share with a side of tasty sweet potatoe fries (a bit extra - or you can get plain potato fries for no extra charge). We also got a side of the creamy coleslaw which is ok and even better if you add salt and a dash of malt vinegar (it needs acid imo). I didn't take a photo of the sandwich because so many other yelpers have already done so. But trust me it's worth the stop. Service is super warm and friendly, the place is spotlessly clean, and I am a fan. We liked the sandwich so much we ordered another to go for lunch the next day. I only wish I had room for pie! They offer a wide selection of pies and I've gotta think they are yummy too. Next time.

Yes, we were basically on dirt roads that saw a few scattered homes here and there, and visible old school phone towers (the brown kind) connected with wires (where crows sit on a row) existed, and not much else. We drove around in some circles, looking for this fabled store and found nothing, not even a Bigfoot. We noted how the moment felt like we were on an Iowa highway because we saw expansive fields and experienced a Middle-America atmosphere. I wanted a small stalk of wheat in between my teeth. As we drove, we saw this place and decided that this joint would replace the store we were looking for. At this point I started to listen to Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas. If you know, you know. As soon as I entered I felt like I had stepped into a diner in the middle of nowhere, the type of spot where brothers talked about saving people, hunting things, you know the family business. My friend Denise did not know what I was talking about and when I tried to introduce the world to her with corny prompts she decided not to play along. Still for a fan the experience was nothing but a win!(chester). I cannot remember the person who helped us but she was a server who reported that she had lived in the surrounding area for most of her life. She was deepening the believe that we were on a route diner neglected by city reality. During this visit, I had fried okra for the first time in my life. It was weird to taste but not in a bad way. More like I had never tasted this texture before in my life. The texture that I had not tried before in my life was a gooey vegetable. Like the texture of the outside was exactly as advertised--- fried goodness. The actual okra was the gooey part. I do not want to sound crass, truly, I do not, but it did feel like enjoying something slimy, and I will leave it at that. Again, not wrong, just weird But I will not get it again. The server- the homegrown one- gave us fried pickles and these were much more to taste. Like, I i have had fried pickles before and I loved them but I had some that were not for me. But these, these, were pickle spears fried to brown goodness, and the mixture hit green- which does not mean go, more like Hulk enjoys, instead of smashes. It was a simple dish yes- green spear pickle fried but sometimes the goodness of a county fair is exactly what a roadtrip snack should be. The fair came to my table and I am not mad at that. On this trip I did have the Willow Dip which I feel is a close cousin to a french dip. What this place did well, at least I think, is putting it on an onion baguette. I am not sure if onion baguette is a middle-of-nowhere bread, but, I allowed it because the taste of the bread was, like tailored made for me, I am a sucker for onion, and not just because it gives me sexy breath. The food was standard, solid fare. Everything was just good nothing wrong with it, all good with it. The sauces were tasty, and added smoky sweet flavor that was welcomed. So this elevated the dish by addding a hickory taste. It did not save the dishes, but did make them better. The decorations were texas heavy. I should have taken more pictures. But sometimes the imagination allows for a space to feel more than at it is.
