Amazing service all around. Everyone that we talked to was so friendly and nice. There was a long wait time but the quote he gave us was very accurate so we were able to leave and come back in time. This is a new, exciting place a lot of people are raving about. The place is roomy, very well decorated, with a lot of young people and loud electronic music. The servers are young, slender, and dressed in all black. We tried a few appetizer, the beef and asparagus skewers and carpaccio was wonderful. The cocktails were really good too. My main course was miso encrusted cod. The cod was made perfectly, but I was hoping for more savory and less sweet. My wife had Korean Short ribs, which was OK. The spicy cucumbers caught me a little off guard but after eating a few they're yummy, the chicken wings were not my favorite. For drinks I had the dragon dance? What an amazing new restaurant!!! When we arrived the place was nice and crowded with a special vibe. Everyone is dressed nice and the energy is great. We visited on a Saturday around 8, wait was about an hour and we got seated right before 9. The restaurant is loud and fun . AC was blowing ... beautiful inside . I am blown away at how delicious the food was. I can't begin to describe all the delicious plates we had. We tried a variety of appetizers and entrees. Flavor and quality was a ten ! I came in a group of 8 on a Saturday night for a birthday. Kage was incredibly packed at the time and weren't taking reservations. The inside was dimly lit and decorated with cute lanterns and candles - I almost felt like I was in LA. The music was very loud though, and I could barely hear my friends who were standing right next to me. We ordered the yuzu honey walnut shrimp and ribeye asparagus to share. Both were delicious, but the yuzu honey walnut shrimp was my favorite! My friend and I shared the miso black cod and miso popcorn shrimp for our entrees. The miso black cod was very yummy and the sauce was delicious. The miso popcorn shrimp was yummy, but I'd definitely recommend the yuzu honey walnut shrimp over this one. I also tried both the Hello miss kitty and dragon dance - the dragon dance was my favorite as it was a little sweeter and had less of an alcoholic taste. Can I just say this is one of my new favorites !! The food is exquisite and flavorful!! Everything we ate and tried was delicious. Pork belly tacos blew our mind. The Kage roll is perfect!! Everything is so yummy. We ordered as much as we could (not everything pictured because we had to dig in immediately). The drinks are very good! I love the flavors. You need to order dessert. The molten lava cake with taro ice cream is to die for. Service is so friendly. Are waiter was patient and great. He had some good recommendations! We got here around 5pm, right at opening so we were seated immediately. Music wasn't too loud but as it got later in the night it was bumping up. Came at 8pm for a late dinner with friends. You could hear the music from outside of the building which surprised me a bit. We sat at the bar while waiting for a table and the service was great and the drinks were very good! When we got moved to our table we were right under a speaker and we could barely hear each other. We also couldn't hear the server and as we waited for our food the music kept getting louder. We kept trying to talk but it ended up feeling very disconnected because we were just trying to read each others lips and mimic facial expressions which was unfortunate. Back to the food and drinks though, everything was incredible! It all tasted so good and it came out in a timely manner. So if you're looking to sit down and talk, I'd maybe recommend going earlier, though I don't know when they start playing music as this was my first time here. read more

This is a great taste of happiness. From the Lobster mien to the robata ribeye and to the house fried rice oh and the sticky wings ! All this food is amazing i wish i could say that you would need a to go box when your finished but it's just that great you will finish all your food before leaving. Chefs Kiss to the cooks in the back ! Their sushi and fresh fish amazing. The salads are crafted just the right amount of dressing ! Dessert the lava cake and macha cheesecake such a delight add for you sweet tooth fans ! Cocktails are amazing i didn't get to add pictures of the cocktails but i will later since the photo cap is 20. But the bartenders know exactly what they are doing the craft and ambiance of the drinks make the taste that much more exceptional. Fan Faves Sexy Geisha, Dragon Dance, Forbidden Garden, and Golden Koi ! Overall the dining experience by far my fave in town! Hands Down KAGE staff!! Keep that energy we appreciate you ! Great new restaurant. Lots of pluses but a couple important minuses. Plus - the food quality and taste was fantastic. Every choice was delicious and every option looked like something I wanted to try. The service was great, the food came out quickly. The ambiance was lovely. The comment "I don't feel like I'm in Bakersfield" meant as a compliment. Very upscale decor. Minus- they never refilled our water on a 100*+ day. The bathrooms were filthy, stinky, and disgusting. They don't take reservations, that's a deal breaker for a restaurant of this level. So many great things, a few small improvements and this could be a top level restaurant. read more

What an amazing evening!!! We celebrated our 17th Anniversary with Kage. As we went through the front door we were met by the Hostess that immediately took us to a table on the bar side of the restaurant. The tables are a little on the small side and for me I wouldn't like the real short backed chair, my wife didn't mind. Our server Brian was awesome. He checked on us right after we sat down. He inquired how we were doing and asked if we water tap or bottled water and gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. When he returned he asked if we want anything besides water which we did. I ordered the Emperor's Old Fashion. This has a house made 5 Spice Simple Syrup, Bitters and Emperors Bourbon served over a ice block. My wife had the Dragon Dance and she loved it. Brian gave us a few suggestions on appetizers and main courses. We went with the Tiradito which was a thin slice of Yellow Tail spicy miso, salsa macha etc. lots of great flavors. We only wished the Yellow Tail had been a little thicker. We also order the Chili Gyoza's that were out of this world delicious. The sweet chili sauce wasn't overly spicy at the same time was packed with great flavors. The are definitely sharable as Brian suggested. We had the dumpling soup to me was the weakest part evening. The dumpling was good the broth not much flavor. For our main we ordered the Black Cod. This was absolutely awesome. The cod was perfectly cooked with an amazing miso sauce that complimented the fish. This was served with asparagus, edamame and Rice. Asparagus was perfectly cooked as great with the sauce the was in the bottom of the plate. The price seemed about right for the quality of food and the trendy atmosphere we were in. Let me start off by saying I am blown away Bakersfield. Initially, when you approach the building here, you forget that you're in Little kern County. The entire atmosphere at Kage gives you an elevated experience. From the entrance into the building, I have to say the aesthetics are very nicely done. They do a great job at separating the dinner and the more family style parties away from the dance floor, DJ and bar area where you can network and chat. My server was Eric. He was so knowledgeable at the new menu. I was surprised since they just opened, but he did inform me that they did a taste test prior to opening so he was very well experienced. I started with some oyster appetizers and a couple of different options and I have to say everything here was 10 out of 10. Eric was very attentive and consistently checked in with my party and even recommended us nightlife options as it was a weekend. We tried several of these signature drinks, which were all surprisingly executed very well from the taste to presentation. Arrived around 530 or so, and were seated promptly. Our server greeted us and explained how to order as most do. She explained that most plates are shareable. Most order several dishes and share. She also explained that there are several cook/prep stations, and depending on what we order some dishes may come out before others. There were four of us. Let me just say that everything we order was excellent and there are other dishes I will be back to have. Items: Ribeye wrapped asparagus, Crispy delight, skewered shrimp, Hot and spicy garlic shrimp, Bakersfield crunch (roll), Gyu black pepper skewers, Negima Skewers. I absolutely love this place! From the food to the ambiance and decor, everything is amazing. And the bar drinks? So good. the "Hello Miss Kitty" and "Sexy Geisha" are must tries! Some of my favorite dishes are the ribeye with asparagus, the Emperor's Fish, spicy cucumber (my all-time favorite), spicy edamame, and the green beans and that's just naming a few. Okay! This place reminds me alot of DTLA restaurants that are super hip and with extra extra loud music, to the point you cant hear the people around you. It's beautiful decorated and the service was great and attentive on a extremely busy Saturday. Food was delicious we had the short rib wrapped asparagus, shrimp appetizer which also was delicious with vegetables, and lastly we shared crispy pork and shrimp fried rice, that was good too. The drinks Were delicious i dont remember the name but it had dragon fruit in it and it was very pretty! My favorite was short rib wrapped in asparagus! They are still in their soft open, they are doing very well, we will retune agin on date night, and maybe sit super close to one another to hear each other talk hahaha.
