I went to my first Junction 421 themed dinner last night. It was called the Boo Dinner! It was really quite amazing! The food was superior. I wasn't really in the mood for drinking wine so I ended up with a lot of leftover wine, as well as a box or two full of my leftovers from the dinner. For $45 it was a great evening with friends! All socially distant, and everyone was wearing masks, but it's almost felt like life was normal. They have a few really cool upcoming events including one of my family's favorites, the Feast of Seven Fishes Dinner! Hello Caroline Beach, this family owned restaurant has something for everyone. Tuscan beef with papparelle in red wine sauce was delicious. So was the fried pimento cheese balls with hot honey sauce. I absolutely love the food here. I usually get my order to go, and the temperature of my food is perfect. I like the way they package the food too so that everything doesn't mix together while in transport. The people that have helped me when picking up my order have all been pleasant. Ate an early dinner on a Sunday and accordingly the staff was lean considering the customer traffic was probably forecasted to be low. All the staff was hustling and amazingly good at their job. A gentleman, who I assume was the owner or manager even took the time to come speak to us and chit chat for a bit. This is to say, the restaurant is clearly managed very well. The icing on the cake was when we were leaving and it began pouring rain. Friday 11/5/21 Quick visit for a snack and a drink today! I had a cup of the Butternut Squash Soup To start...it was AWESOME!!! I have had many which are too sweet and , personally, I prefer a more savory taste to this type of soup. It was a perfect meld of sweet and savory...I could taste the hint of nutmeg and enjoyed the pecans it was served with as a texture component. Very solid soup. One of our group had the Fettuccine Alfredo with the addition of Chicken...this Alfredo is truly one of the best- if not THE best I have ever eaten- superb!! Pizza Special - well. it has been so long, I can't remember which pizza it was, but believe it may have been the Classic with roasted tomatoes, basil and mozzarella- I have tried most of them and they are ALL delicious!! What a wonderful new place! The minute we walked in I recognized the owner! Not only did he come out and greet us and welcome us back but served some appetizers on the house and chatted all about the menu and some dishes not to miss. I had the shrimp and crab over angel hair pasta with mushrooms and tomatoes that was incredibly delicious! No way could I finish it! Trying new restaurants is trying for my wife and I, with her gluten allergies and we have a hard time finding basic dishes, let alone specialty foods she can eat, so Junction 421 was a joy to discover! Every gluten-free item on the menu was clearly marked, and their selection of GF was very good, many more selections than we usually see. Our server, Kate, was great! Well informed, articulate, quite pleasant, and Horace, the Seating Host was the same! We couldn't help but notice the interaction of the staff, all very friendly AND professional. The owner or manager, Jonathan, a very affable fellow and consummate restrauranteur, came by our table, thanked us for coming, and talked to us for several minutes about the place and what he wants to do with it, and convinced us to try the fried calamari (made with rice flour), which we both *loved*. My wife declared the cauliflower crust on her pizza the best she'd ever had, and after a crunchy bite of it, I had to agree-- you'd have thought it a regular flatbread. My Caesar Salad was wonderful, the grilled shrimp perfectly seasoned, and my wife's Creme Bruelle 'knocked her socks off!' Decor was lovely, and they have a well-stocked full bar and nice wine selection. There are Wine and Mixed Drink featured specials and a different Blue Plate Special every night.So yes, we were VERY pleased to find Junction 421, and will be taking our friends there in the future. Our experience at 421 was such a bright moment in a dreary week. Our server told us he was new and just starting to get familiar with the menu, but aside from a little awkwardness (which we found charming) he was like a pro. We were brought a complementary play of fried pimento cheese balls, which were fabulous. My meal, the daily special of pork, was incredible. My wife and I drove down to Carolina Beach last weekend and got caught in the 421 afternoon rush. I was getting hungry so I asked her to just find somewhere close. We went into Junction 421. The menu is super simple and our waitress said everything is prepared fresh. So I started with the fresh made spinach and artichoke dip served with crisp toast points. I have to tell you it was a good as I have ever had. Super fresh and you could tell from the robustness of flavor. I then ordered the fish and chips which were in a beer batter and very flackery. My wife had the daily special. A stuffed pork chop. The place was very family friendly and the atmosphere was casual as well. The over all vibe was just a great neighborhood feel. I overheard someone asking for a special burger that they no longer had on the menu but the waitress asked and the chef said yea. That's my kind of place. They offer everything from seafood to a good burger. If you get down to Carolina Beach stop by it's just off college on your way. We had an amazing experience at Junction 421 last night. We were celebrating our anniversary and we couldn't have chosen a better spot. We ordered the wednesday night special- braised short ribs and they were so tender and juicy along with the wine special- the Canyon cabernet. The owner took us to our table and came and spoke with us several times. He even brought us a creme brûlée for our anniversary. All of the staff were kind, knowledgeable and attentive. Our friends like it so we went again for Brunch. Their idea of Huevos rancheros is burned fried eggs on top of lots (lots) of cubed potatoes a little onion, tomato, maybe 1 slice of green pepper. Father's Day! So Mike decided he wanted to give this place a try... our friends love it so we were hoping we would too. We decided to sit at the bar because it was pretty busy. We were offered the bar specials $3 Bloody Marys or Mimosas. We decided on one of each. Both were really good... the mimosa ratio was good with that perfect bite of champagne. The Bloody Mary was seasoned well and garnished with a lime, olive and celery stock. It was spicy without being over bearing. We both decided on the Carolina burger- I can NEVER do no to bacon and pimento cheese. They came with fries but I asked for a side salad instead. The fries were perfect- warm and crispy. The kind you can dip in ketchup or ranch. The salad was ok- fresh but pretty minimal. The burger was a little underwhelming which I hate to say because it looked delicious- though they didn't look the same- the bun was served cold... so it wasn't as easy to chew and made the rest of the burger subpar. The hamburger was seasoned really well and for $15 I was looking for something mouth watering and in The Fork and Cork range of burgers... it just didn't happen. We have decided to go back and try the actual brunch because the menu looked really good and I am not a one and done person- chicken in waffles are in my mind now. We saw some other plates and they all looked really good. So I will update after my next visit! read more
