When I first popped in I had to wait a while as the guy fixing bikes spoke no English and was busy with another customer. But then I called out to the guy at the back (also fixing bikes) "hey I'd like to get a new inner tube and maybe tire too. Ok if I leave the bike hear and come back in 30 mins?" The guy was so helpful as he came out front and said yes. When I arrived back to pick it up I was about to take my bike and pay for the tire when this other stranger chimes in. He's like giving my bike the 'once over'. He said with a smile "its ok i work here too" and he started to tell me what else I might need. Maybe he's the owner? Anyway he preceded to be really helpful in giving me any advice I needed and was clearly an enthusiastic bicyclist too. We got chatting In short what excellent service. So friendly and helpful. Junior Bike Shop is small, a little bit gruff, but one of the most technically-capable shops around. No frills, no nonsense, just quick and very high-quality repairs. I just moved into the neighborhood from Brooklyn, and the quality of the repairs (fixed brakes) and the speed are in another world compared to my previous local bike shop. On a side note, it's only the owner in here taking care of the repairs and the sales so I could imagine it getting busy at times. read more

Not good. Neither helpful nor polite. Have tried to buy used bike in the past, and buy basic supplies, no help w either. Avoid.

I'll start by saying that I don't' know much about bikes but I'm learning as I go. I bought a piece of crap road bike from this second hand repair shop just a couple blocks away from this place. I brought the bike here so they could take a look at what I got and see what needs repairing, changing or if the bike was even worth saving. They pretty much told me the two tires were old and wouldn't last a day longer. At the very least, they suggested I change the tubes. Me thinking that tubes would be a better investment at the time than to take a plunge into my wallet to replace tubes tires and possibly rims...I just replaced the tubes. I asked them three times if this was all they thought was wrong with the bike and they gave me the same answers relative to the wheels. Ok.... I try riding the bike home and came back to the shop 3 times that same afternoon before they could get my back tire screwed on right....it kept rubbing against the frame... I went to check out another bike shop relatively close by and I got the scoop. My bike is garbage and actually used to be a FUJI until someone decided to frankenstein the friggin thing and put mountain bikes brakes, handles and gears on a former road bike. The chains were uneven and only one of the gears.......You know what, I could go on and on about how screwed up my bike is but the point is, for all the good ratings this place got, it didn't serve me well. BOTTOM LINE- If you're looking for a place to play doctor and diagnose the issues and provide a solution, this probably wont be the shop to go to. BUT if you know more about bikes and know what needs replacing, this place would be more suitable for you but keep in mind, they have a limited supply or variety of parts. read more

I live in Brooklyn but blew a tire while I was biking up to Inwood park. I stopped into Junior for some help and these guys were great! Friendly, knowledgeable, quick and cheap. AVOID! They asked me three times what it was I was asking to do (swap out front left Ultegra shifter). And then quoted me $75 for labor. I took my business down to Talent Cycles on 139th and got it done for $25. These people are either inept, criminal or don't want your business. Excellent service, extremely helpful, great value! Junior is an example of how things really should be. His shop isn't glitzy like others one might see, but it is sufficiently well stocked in value AND high-end components. His repairs are deliberate and precise. There usually are some pro bikers in the shop that come to shoot the breeze from time to time. I have been going there for the past 3 years, and I have had no complaints. He is extremely helpful and his prices are very reasonable. In fact, even cheap. I do not think there is a more reasonably priced shop in the city. read more

Headed over to Pedal Universe with a completely disassembled bicycle, thinking that they were open until 7:30 pm. I was wrong. Desperate, I searched google, and I found this place. AMAZING service. Great guys, super friendly, helpful, and funny. They were making fun of each other the whole time. Took really good care of my bike. Have locks for average price and helmets for less than what I usually see. They only charged me 25 for the service, where Pedal Universe was going to charge 45. This is a great place if you just want someone to fix your bike for a very reasonable price, in a very reasonable amount of time.

I took my bike here today, with multiple problems, and I got my bike lock stuck. The guy came and helped me to unlock my bike, not only did he fix my bike in no time for only $25 he also fixed my lock. The staff person was polite, knowledgeable and efficient, he showed me what was wrong with my bike and explained what he was going to do to fix it. 20 minutes later, my bike is better than it was before it actually broke. Highly recommended, I will definitely be going back here for all my biking needs. Thank you! read more

Every time I go there, the main bike mech is really nice. And the prices are insanely affordable so much that I have the urge to give tips which he refuse to take. My bike tire is flat right now. I got my bike out of winter storage with two flat tires. Yelped myself the nearest bike shop and rolled in Junior's, and asked for some air and told him I'd probably be back in looking for some more tuning up once I could ride it and see how it was doing. He made time for me immediately and got me out the door with two full tires. After an hour ride on the hudson river greenway, I was back, needing a new part on the seat adjustor (which was allowing the seat to swivel and descend even when locked) and having concerns about the back wheel/brake. Once again, Junior immediately fiddled around, found a part, snapped it in place, and verified that with the seat affixed properly in place, there was no longer friction on the back wheel. I hovered around until he allowed me to pay $3 (total for both visits) for labor, but I think he wasn't even expecting that, and just wanted to make a biker's day better and build trust with a potential future customer. Side note, useful for gringos in Washington Heights/Inwood: His English was good enough that I didn't bother with my Spanish (I figure if he runs a bike shop, his tech-speak in that arena would be better than mine). read more

i shifted gears on a hill and there was a horrific crunching noise and my bicycle chain underwent some sort of topological impossibility. suddenly my bike sounded like a lawnmower, or a swarm of angry, angry bees. also the chain started digging a deep rut in part of the gear shift mechanism, and the friction was making my feet tingle. a soft-spoken, perfectly friendly guy who i am assuming is "junior" sorted all of this out in about fifteen minutes, and now it runs fine. he charged me three dollars. junior is awesome! read more
