I first came to Toga about a month ago to get some help tuning up a new bike. Will, at the front, has been so kind and helpful. Switched out my pedals and did an amazing job putting new wraps on the bars. Super quick service and very communicative via text. Had an issue with a degreaser that I bought and I brought it in today. Will remembered my name as soon as I walked in which was a nice touch. He listened to me and switched it out for a new one with no hassles. I really can't understand the negative reviews from other Yelpers. Staff here is knowledgeable, efficient and kind. I say this after having negative experiences at some other bike shops on the UWS. Highly recommend this place and thank you to the staff. read more

Been here a few times and always left unhappy. Staff are rude and not knowledgeable. They don't like giving estimates for repairs (the answer is always "bring it in", even if it is a straightforward ask with all the information they need). Online ordering is also a fiasco with no one answering emails, orders delayed, etc. Don't know if their mechanics are any good because you only get to talk to the front end sales staff that don't know anything about repairs. read more

Toga Bikes is the best! The staff are friendly and knowledgable, the store is well stocked with bikes and gear, and the location is fantastic! I stored a bike there for a few months while I was visiting NYC and staying close by. Even the shop dog is nice! Highly recommend with no reservations. I have been mountain biking for 30 years and road biking for 20, and this shop is on par with the best I have worked with over the years. Not sure why folks have issues here. There very busy so maybe sometimes that cannot provide immediate service but that's because there very good. They have a great shop. While they cater to high end racing and MTX BIKES, they have a great selection of street bikes and are very knowledgeable. I think it is the best shop in Manhattan. This store did a minor repair to my bike. When I picked it up they told me I needed a full overhaul (new chain, brake pads, gear cables). Because I've ridden the bike only about 20 times, I was skeptical. When I tried to ride the bike home, I discovered the rear gears were totally out of adjustment. They worked fine when I brought the bike in. I walked the bike to another store which confirmed all the components were fine with minimal wear and said the screws on the rear derailleur had been moved deliberately to put the gears completely out of adjustment, an obvious attempt to force me to bring the bike back for more work. Lesson learned - stay away from this place! read more

Best bike shop for all things. I brought my cervelo bike there for new tubular tires which they installed and also they did a fitting for me and installed my new pedals. Customer service is excellent. they did an amazing job. These guys understand bikes and you should go in and just trust them to get you what you need. They will give you the best possible solution. Luis (pronounced Louis ) is excellent to work with as he was a former racer so knows what is up for bikes totally. Everyone is kind there and no egos. From how to fix a flat to a proper bike fit this is the place to go! They also carry top bikes like cervelo and Assos accessories. Everything you need is pretty much there. I went to toga on Thursday 7/30 with bike rims with me that I had bought direct from the manufactures with the intention to buy schwalbe pro one wheels. While I was there we discussed the tubeless tape that was already on the rims. Toga said we should have just had them order the wheels and put them together because they were experts and can make the process easier. He then told me they don't have schwalbe tires in stock but I should get Continental GP 5000 as they were a better option. I have the rims in my hand during this. I but the Continental for $206 and when I get home they don't fit. No big deal. When I went back on Friday 7/31 they tell me they dont refund and I'll only get store credit and point at a sign that was not in my view during the initial purchase. I didn't pick these wheels I was advised to buy them and the employee I was returning to was the same employee that had recommended the tires the day before. Why would I want store credit to a place that treats customers this way? Im praying this review reaches people and they think twice about going to Toga because when a professional recommends something and then it isn't compatible there is no better grounds for a refund and they had no interest in entertaining my case. read more

I went to Toga to buy some bike shoes for new SPD pedals, and their staff was able to find something for me within minutes of walking through the door. Very knowledgeable and friendly, and highly transparent on service costs. They even took care of replacing my pedals on my bike/adding the cleats to the shoes. Rented a bike from here for the 5 boro bike tour. The brakes were sticky and the gears jammed every time I changed them. When bringing the bike back today the chain came off as soon as I changed gears and I had to walk the bike back three miles in the rain with my hands covered in oil after trying to fix it myself. Didn't want or ask for a refund just wanted them to to know how frustrating the situation was and so they could fix it for the next person. I had actually intended on purchasing a high end bike from them today but the incredibly rude man who took the bike back, lied about the pick up process and said these issues were down to my "user error" lead me to go elsewhere. read more

I purchased two high-end bicycles from them and regularly used them for annual maintenance and repairs. They were my friendly neighborhood bike store. No more! I recently brought my bicycle in for routine maintenance and did not receive a call to pick it up. Then, out of the blue, I received a text asking me to pick up the bike and telling me I was responsible for $150 in storage fees. There is no mention of storage fees on their receipts or in their store. When I pointed this out to the manager, he was (you guessed it) RUDE, CONDESCENDING AND DISMISSIVE and proceeded to swipe my card for the fees. To echo the above reviews, THIS IS NO WAY TO TREAT CUSTOMERS. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere -- unless, of course, you enjoy being mistreated and abused. read more

Bought a bike there 4 years ago. Specialized carbon fiber which was in stock. The size was too small . I do believe they are too busy,the manager is the only one who somewhat tries to fit you but I he is working only with bikes he has in stock rather than order new one. Even if you set an appointment for fitting he is not totally with you. I would not recommend the store to fit or purchase bikes but only for quick repairs. This place was recommended to me by my spin instructor and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. I met Will who was able to help guide me as I was looking to buy indoor cycling shoes. He measured my foot and then recommended different shoes, all in different price ranges. The shoes ranged from $99 - $400+. I ended up liking the cheapest option which were black Giro with 3 straps. He added the clips on the bottom of the shoe for $22. Will was very knowledgeable and thorough and made the whole experience very easy! I highly recommend Will at Toga for a bike fit. He was knowledgable, methodical, and personable throughout. More than that, he was willing-- enthusiastic, even-- to explain every step of the way, adjustment by adjustment, component by component. i experienced none of the snobbishness I've felt at other bike shops. Toga has a return customer here. Will had a really calm personal approach. He started with in-take style questions asking about my comfort and complaints in the bike, asking at least a couple time "what else, anything else" to ensure we covered everything. I thought that was a good technique-- like at the doctor, I'm sure people leave a more rushed fit remembering that one last thing they forgot to mention. Will also listened well after asking those good questions. All Will's recommendations were tailored to my needs and riding style. At one point, because my frane is a little small for me, I suggested I'd be interested in considering a new bike. Will responded that he expected we could improve my current fit a lot, presenting his honest advice rather than pushing the sale. When I asked questions about certain upgrades that would have added to the cost of the fit, again Will hued closely to what I told him about my riding style, giving examples of when he *would* recommend spending on the upgrades I was asking about versus what I told about the kinds of rides I most enjoy. Overall this was a really fun experience. I've done only about 25 miles since yesterday's fit, but it made a world of difference. I head over to the bike shop on 72st and west end, where they promptly take my bike to the back. It is fixed in a matter of minutes, and only for 10$. They spend a long time with every customer for everything from simple questions, to conducting bike fit services, tailored to the specific needs of a cyclist - this is for the fanatic roadie types who spend several thousands of dollars on a bike. My wife and I have purchased a couple of bikes there and we go in often for service as well. I love to bike almost as much as I like to sing, eat and breathe. It's an inseparable part of my life, and that is why it's important for me to be in sync with the bike shop that I pick to make my key purchase. But it's not just about buying a bike, when you stick to a shop, you're also betting on consistent and helpful service and building a good rapport with the staff. I'm glad to say that Toga has lived up to my expectations. Don't get my wrong, this place isn't nearly as close as my neighborhood bike shop (that's Metro Bikes at 47th and 9th, which isn't bad either). But they sell Cannondales and that is my bike of choice. The service here was awesome. I found a bike on sale on their website. I called to inquire about the price and the manager said it was actually cheaper than what was advertised. There was only one Cannondale left in my size, and I asked them to hold it for me and start building the bike based on the parts and specs I wanted. Fast forward 5 hours and I was there able to pick up my bike - ready to go. They did a fantastic job with the initial setup and the fitting. On subsequent visits, they've always been very attentive and took care of all my issues immediately. Whether if it's a parts change, tune-up or just adding air to my tires, they were always fast and extremely helpful. These intangibles are very important when it comes to improving the shelf life of your $2500 bike. Of course you can also do this at home, but why bother when you know the service at the store will meet your expectations, which it has on every visit. You can find some good deals here, just make sure to check for any specials. You can also get a decent fitting here. The accessories are decent and there is a good selection to get you moving. Just note that for this kind of stuff, you're usually better off buying it online, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, if you're looking for a bike, this is a great place to shop at. Went to buy a bike, one of the worst shopping experiences I had - the sales guy was worst than a used cars salesman... few examples- when I asked about a model they didn't have in store he lied and said it's because the quality of these bikes went down...(I asked about Specialized bikes...). Then he tried to sell me a bike that wasn't my size and didn't even check or ask what's my size (thankfully I knew that). On another bike there was a Black Friday sale sign, but it wasn't actually on sale.. then he showed me an expensive bike online that they didn't have in stock, and when I asked if I can try it before I buy it he asked "why do you want to try it?" I was like "are you seriously asking?" And he said "yes...you don't need to try it, you just buy it.." read more

Rude and condescending over the phone so I didn't make it in the store. I called and said outright, "I don't know a lot about bikes, but I would like to purchase one. I'm 5'1 and looking for something in the $200 range." I was immediately told "We don't sell Toys R Us bikes here". How rude, I'm 32! He told me "Our bikes start at $450, OK?" as if he were dismissing me and rushing me off the phone. Again, I don't know a lot about bikes, I would have been okay with that price range too if someone would have taken the time to educate and suggest something appropriate for me. When I was growing up in Syracuse the Toga Bike shop with a mythical store. All the older riders in the Onondaga Bike Club told of trips made to NYC to see all the wonderful bikes that could be purchased with the right amount of financing. I have only recently been to Toga Bike Shop. I took a long lunch and walked over to the shop. Toga is a well stocked bike store that carries several brands but is a large Specialized dealer. The store is staffed with urban bike enthusiasts. I was there to look at the Specialized Langster Comp. The store has lots of jerseys, shoes, shorts and socks. I found the store to be good for browsing but for the most part I can get most of what the sell locally here in New Jersey at the Peddler so I do now if I would make a special trip. Visited several times for new bikes and repairs - always nice, professional, know what they're doing. I'd go back here for my bike.

Are there any local bike shops these days that aren't rude and condescending? I called in advance to see if they had a road bike saddle and toe clip pedals in stock. The salesperson on the phone said they did and that they can install them on the spot. When I came to the shop less than an hour later the salesperson told me "oh sorry we actually don't have any saddles in stock at the moment, but I'll sell this used women's saddle for a discounted price. It has a dent in it but shouldn't be an issue." After, telling him I'd pass on the offer he scoffed at me and said something to the extent that I'm an idiot for not buying it." When it came to the pedals, the mechanic installed them without the toe straps. I asked him if he could attach the nylon straps because weaving them is no easy task. The mechanic gave me an exasperated sigh as if he was disgusted to do it - the cherry on top was that he only threaded one pedal and refused to the second. He saw me struggling to do the second one my own and did nothing to step in and help. Worst customer service I've ever experienced at a bike shop. read more

I purchased a Cannondale bike two years back and went in for my lifetime free tune-up service. At the time of purchase, the staff was great and very helpful. This time, staff was welcoming as well and signed me up for my first free basic tune -up; soon thereafter, the owner of the shop came and started asking me questions like have you ridden the bike too much or too rough, and I mentioned that on the contrary, I have barely ridden it at all. The owner continued with his theory that the bike has not been in good shape and brakes are not aligned properly so it needs an upgraded tune up service costing 85$. I explained that I have not used the bike and alignment of brakes could be an issue present from before since I never used it. He then gave me a shrug and said 'Fine, we will do it for free now!' I asked repeatedly what is 'it'- 'basic tune up or just brakes?' He never quite responded. My brakes are fixed, but basic tune up was not done. My chain still has rust on it and there is no lubrication applied. The owner was dismissive and was more interested in convincing me to pay for the free tune-up. And after agreeing to doing it for free, it was still not done. I would say the place is good for initial purchase, followup services are suboptimal and the owner needs to be more honest. I would not return for bike tune-ups back here again.. read more

Full service large selection bike shop in the far west UWS. They focus on Specialized and Giant bikes. Nice service. Had my questions answered and help was always available. Knowledgeable and gave great tips. The service team also did a good job. Came here several times for mechanical service. Prices are a bit high but are average in this area. Did a good job on my spoke replacement and trueing as well as a full tuneup at the beginning of the season. One time they didn't find a part which delayed service and they were kind enough to offer a bike bottle or spare tube for my trouble in waiting. I'll be back. read more
