The most take-out / dine in friendly place in town This menu is so packed out with tasty, filling selections. The three dips I enjoy most are the eggplant, red pepper hummus, and the muhammara. That coupled with the perfect hummus truly makes the intro to the rest of the menu that much more on point For starters the lentil soup hits so right, especially if you're having it with the roasted cauliflower, oh and don't forget the falafel, the falafel is amazing. For the main event, you're going to want to go with a triple threat: Lamb bolognese, chicken schnitzel, and the farro risotto. The Schnitzel is the perfect crunchy, creamy goodness paired with the potatoes that truly blow your mind in the right direction. While that's happening, the lamb bolognese will take you to another universe, with the creamy, potent goodness sinking into your soul. From there the risotto will take you to church, the balance of flavor and texture will certainly leave you begging for the date cake to close out the show. We drove from three towns over to come here based on the amazing reviews and the delicious sounding menu. This place is a testament to the fact that good ideas and presentation do not make up for low quality, badly executed dIshes. Salmon seemed like it was frozen before it was cooked. Greens were dry at the ends. Potato chips were soggy. Flatbread was overcooked and dry. Arugula was also tasteless and dry. None of this would be a huge deal if this place charged ~$16 per entree but for $29 I expect fresh food and produce that's a bit tastier than Subway's. Servers were nice but unorganized (we were offered dessert and the cheque before getting our entrees) everyone here also seemed on edge even though it wasn't particularly busy which makes me wonder how staff is treated by management. We came here on a Friday night with another couple. We were seated right away since we asked for outdoor seating. There was an outdoor heater and the temperature was perfect. Very crowded inside. We ordered the mezza trio with hummus, Baba ghanoug and red pepper hummus. The red pepper hummus was very flavorful with great texture. The Baba ghanoug was almost runny with very little flavor. I'm used to the thicker, smokey flavor types, which are more authentic cuisine. The bread was good. The duck wings were crispy and full of flavor. Liked the yogurt sauce with it. Disappointing experience. I was looking forward to a lovely and delicious dinner with old friends. Dips were flavorless, bread was good, chicken kabobs tasted like they cooked yesterday and rewarmed; dry and tasteless. Falafel was so hard and crispy on the outside it was hard to cut, tahini sauce lacked flavor, my friends short ribs were good. Waiter was disinterested in us and pff hand and somewhat arrogant. We asked to see the manager and when she finally came over she was pretty understanding and compted a few dishes. Not paying for what we ordered was not our intention. Would much rather have had a good meal for the outrageous prices. Will ever return. read more

We have been to Juniper with our 1 year old recently. There was a wait period which was ok. The waitresses were pretty rude about the kid. We had called asked if it's ok to bring kids. They said it's okay. The response we got was unwelcoming. We are not going back to the place again. read more

We had 3 dips for $18, and the portion was very generous (we ended up taking most of it home for breakfast and it was still delicious after a night of refrigeration) For entree we shared the lamb bolognese. I'm unsure how to vocalize to full extent how impressed we were with this spot. We stopped in last Monday for my fiancées' birthday. Dave, owner of the place was the host, awesome down to earth guy. We ended up talking and he gave us free gazpacho, hummus, and dessert. He even gave us a cook book addressing us at the end of the night. What a little gem of a place! Knowledgeable and friendly service and food that just oozes flavor. Compliments to the Chef! We tried the hibiscus lemonade - very refreshing. And the grilled octopus was SO good! A tiny bit more seasoning would've helped bring out the flavors. But that's to-taste, so we just added some more. The chicken sandwich was huge and had just the right balance of a yogurt sauce, chicken and greens. It came on a bed of very tasty Farro salad, and chips on the side added a crunch. Portion was enough for two meals! The Kakavia was tomatoey (usually I don't like so much tomato... but this was so delicious, I wanted more!). Perhaps only critique would be that there were too many potatoes in it- maybe a different root or carrots or something lighter might balance it better. But I would totally eat it again! Can't wait to come back and try everything else on their menu! Ps. Having been here 5-6 times now, we love the food here. However, there is one lady server (she was bartending one of times we visited) who needs to polish up her customer service. She was curt throughout our meal/orders. I hardly post reviews but this was by far the best restaurant experience I've had since I came to Boston maybe even ever. We started out with lentil soup which was the soup of the day. Bias aside, best soup I've ever had. The chicken skewer appetizer was delicious & for entree we had the schnitzel, one of the BEST things I've ever tried. The owner was beyond generous & offered to give me the recipe for the lentil soup, I thought he was going to write it down on a piece of paper but to my surprise, he gave me a whole ass cookbook with a personal touch. Absolutely, the nicest, friendliest lunch service one could ever expect. All the mediterranean dips are super delicious. We ordered two dips (forgot which one), but they gave us a sampler of some others. The wine selection is very good, although the lebanese wine should be skipped. Malbec is perfect for lunch and went well with the chicken sandwich. Note that I usually do not like chicken, but this was very good. The overall consistency reminded me of a German pork schnitzel, but that would not fit into a middle eastern place. The main dishes and sandwiches are HUGE. This place is spectacular ! They even took my kids into the kitchen They also have the most incredible is lamb and chicken implementations I've ever seen out of modern middle eastern restaurant. I assume that the owners are either from New York City or LA because in addition to being the quality uniqueness creativity of the of the food plus the quality of ingredients is beyond anything that you were expecting a typical suburb. Again, the most characteristic event was when My kids were misbehaving and they were so patient that they even took them to the back of the kitchen, showed them how to plate hummus , and brought it out. I enjoy the chicken schnitzel which has a delicious sauce, and the fried capers are a nice touch. Can't go wrong with any of the dips. I could happily eat this food for the rest of my life. As it is, I walked [waddled?] away from dinner feeling as though I have probably consumed enough to last for the rest of the week, though that pleasant ache hardly deterred me from chasing the last of the lentils around my mother's plate with a spoon, nor nibbling down the glorious greens under the shrimp and the octopus, which might otherwise have been left by some as garnish. Of everything, there is no single dish which i can recommend over another, though I highly encourage the salads if one needs lighter fare and I heartily endorse the dip trio [we had to order extra of the chewy pitas to finish this] especially the Muhammara. Cocktails were much enjoyed by the rest of the table, though I wasn't feeling it that day and ended up with an excellent Greek white instead, which paired well with basically everything we had except the bolognese, for pretty obvious reasons. The coffee with dessert was also excellent, and went smoothly with the moist date cake and the gloriously creamy caramel budino. The restaurant itself is dark, not ideal for those with low-light issues, but pleasantly companionable, the dimness lending a touch of privacy not afforded by the honestly cramped confines. There are as many tables and chairs as the fire code will allow, I suspect, which is Important, because the place is overflowing with people... no doubt as a direct result of the food, which -as I said- is heinously good. The staff is incredibly friendly and quick with answers and -bless them!- managed to keep track of my cardigan when I left it behind so i could retrieve it the next day without hassle. Even the bathrooms are charming; marked with signs reading "either" and "or" [which I found delightful, given the recent nonsense], the one I used was impeccably clean and decorated with a collection of prettily framed mirrors. Sadly, I make it to Wellesley about once every... way too many years, so I won't likely see it again soon, but it's on my list! read more

The food at Juniper is really delicious. We don't eat Mediterranean often and we all loved the different flavors of our dishes. We actually learned about the restaurant watching Phantom Gourmet and wanted to try their homemade English muffin (random, yeah) and dips. The dips were seemingly pricey so we went with the calamari and souvlaki instead. If it were me, I might offer it as a sampler platter or differently to justify the price. They have a great drink selection with interesting beers and cocktails. I tried the ginger beer, super yum. We had the lamb burger, chicken tagine, farro risotto, swordfish with rice cakes. There wasn't a dish we didn't like honestly. So if the food is so good, why the three stars? The service at Juniper is just okay and falls slightly below average in my book. The people were friendly but I don't feel that they were service oriented if that makes sense. They don't have high chairs. We had two babies in their car seat carriers so they were fine on the bench seats. Our baby is a little older so we also sat him on the bench between us but you can imagine how hard it is to eat when you have a child who just wants to get up and touch everything on the table. It becomes a safety issue when hot plates and flatware are barely out of reach and your child isn't strapped into a seat. I'd love to say we would come back again for the delicious food but seeing as how all of us have young babies, I don't see us dining at Juniper anytime soon. read more

Juniper has quickly turned into one of my favorite places in Wellesley. The service here is great. Right, when entering you will be greeted by the friendly staff. They'll answer any questions or concerns that you have about the menu. They serve lunch and dinner with slight differences between the menus. Both are great and offer wonderful appetizers and main dishes. My go to dip is the Muhammara which is a roasted red pepper dip. I also love the chicken souvlaki sandwich (only served at lunch time). We were so fortunate to meet owner, Dave Becker! He was warm, funny and attentive! He is every bit as charming as the marvelous creative environment! Too many personal touches to even mention! A casual and comfortable atmosphere with excellent food & drinks. To avoid waiting for a table on a Saturday night, your best bet is to go with a party of 8+ and get a reservation. We started with cocktails and ordered dips & pita while we thought about our main course. The dips were great and 3 was enough for the 7 of us to share. When our pita supply got low, they gave us another warm serving without anyone asking, which was really nice. The cocktails are what I would call craft cocktails and they're $12. They come with giant ice cubes that kept my drink cold, but didn't water it down. Half of the group ordered the schnitzel and I can see why. I had a bite and would definitely order it next time I go. It was pounded thin with a crunchy pistachio breadcrumb. It had a hint of spiciness to it, but it was really subtle. The potatoes it came with were thin sliced, almost like chips. I had the grilled flat iron steak, which was a huge portion. The brussels sprout hash it came on top of was divine. Our group finished the night with 1 of each of the desserts they were offering: chocolate pudding & warm date cake. The warm date cake was amazing. Came to Juniper with a friend to sit at the bar and catch up and we had a great time! This place is definitely a little oasis in Wellesley, I'm really glad a place with such a unique flavor exists. The waitstaff is super nice from what I've experienced, we sat at the bar so we were served by the bartender who was great. They have an option where you can pick three dips for $16 so we decided to share that and we were not disappointed! The Tzatziki was probably my favorite, but the baba ghanouj was also delish as was the pepper tomato dip. It was served with soft pita bread and filled us up no problem!
