I had been meaning to have several pieces of furniture removed from my place for months now but was overwhelmed by the number of junk removal services on yelp. 99% of them have 4-5 stars but looking through the reviews many of the reviewers either loved or hated the company with a very select few in the middle. Furthermore, 90% of these reviewers had only 1-2 reviews so I was very skeptical to say the least. However, I had put this off long enough and decided to fire off a quote request for about 5 different companies to see what I would be quoted. Out of the 5, Junk King came in right around the average, but was the most precise out of all of them in regards to the quote. I told them what I needed removed (2 queen size foam mattresses with bed frame + a L-desk) and that I lived on the 4th floor with no elevator. They asked me immediately if I could send them photos to provide me with a more accurate quote which, though slightly inconvenient, gave me some comfort as I figured they'd be less likely to quote me a different price on the day of removal if there was picture proof of my items. Through email I was given a date just a few days later which was nice. More importantly however, due to sudden schedule changes I had to reschedule TWICE and they did so with no problems! I was quoted a 2 hour window (9am - 11am) and received a phone call at around 9:15am that they were 5 minutes out. I met up with them and they were quick and professional. They didn't complain about the stairs or moving of my mattresses andhad my place cleared before 10am. They showed me the quote on their cell phone which was the same price I was quoted. I paid by CC, was emailed the receipt (which I had to type in) and poof they were gone. The only slight negative was in regards to the movement of the queen size mattresses. Because I was concerned they wouldn't fit down the stairwell, I emailed the company reminding them to bring something to cut the mattresses apart to remove it more easily. I got a response saying that they would make a note in my file but the people that morning said they didn't hear anything about it. Fortunately they were able to get it out but I was concerned about the disconnect in communication. I am rating this company with 2 stars due to their blatant disregard of customer complaint that I made over one week ago. I hired Junk King for a junk removal job on August 5, 2022. Initially, the two gentlemen that came out were professional, engaging, and very personable. They took pictures of the items to be removed and we did a thorough walk-through and discussed how the job would be done once I made an appointment. They sent me a written estimate with the pictures included in an email immediately after my estimate appointment. Cue in the day of the removal, August 5th. My appointment window was for 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. At 9:15 I called their call center to inquire about an arrival estimate. 30 minutes later I received a call letting me know that they were on another job and running behind by a couple of hours. I was given a new time estimate of Noon - 1:00. They did call to let me know they were 15 minutes away just after Noon. Three guys arrived, one of which was part of the brother pair that came for my estimate. He apologized profusely and offered a $40 discount for my trouble. Awesome, I'm pleased with the professionalism and proactive customer service. The guys removed all the items we previously agreed on and they stayed within the contract estimate. One of the items they removed was a dresser. Unfortunately, in the process of moving the dresser our hardwood floors were scratched in multiple places. A few of them are deep scratches. In fact, my sister commented to the two gentlemen, "please don't scratch my mother's floor"...as the dresser was scraping the floor. The dresser was decades old, and extremely heavy. So, any moving or junk removal company should be prepared with proper equipment to move/remove furniture safely. We even discussed this during their estimate visit. Still, no equipment, throws, or other protective materials were used. The next day, when I discovered how deep the scratches were, I contacted the company the next day, August 6th, and was told to send pictures and an email detailing the damage. I was told I would hear from the owner later that day. No response. I called again Monday. No response. Called again Wednesday. This time the call center contacted the owner while I waited on the line. She returned after speaking to him and stated, "I spoke with the owner. He did receive your email and the pictures. He said he will contact you with a resolution." That was August10th. Today is August 15th. I am disappointed and completely shocked by the owner's blatant disregard. I am not one to write reviews, however, I feel strongly that it is necessary for consumers to share their experiences, good and bad, so hopefully businesses will improve their professionalism and service. I am also planning to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to ensure that this does not happen again and see what other options are available to resolve this matter. read more

I cannot recommend using Junk King of Boston for your hauling needs. I contacted Junk King and was told that the process was as follows: a representative visits the site to do an inspection of what needs hauling and provide an estimate; based on that estimate the customer decides whether or not to proceed with the actual hauling. The representative who was supposed to give me a quote did not visit, however, canceling our appointment well after the window in which he was supposed to arrive and requesting photographs, which he used to provide an estimate. All well and good -- the estimate I was given was in line with what I wanted to spend -- and I decided to move forward with the hauling based on that estimate. However, when the actual haulers arrived, they immediately assessed what was to be hauled and informed me that it would be more than I'd been quoted. There were also additional charges for specific items included in the haul, such as mattresses. All this would have been evident to the estimator, had he bothered to show up to our initial appointment and looked over, as promised, what I needed hauled. At this point I was over a barrel, however -- the job had to be done -- so I proceeded despite the warning that the estimate was to be exceeded. In the end, I wound up paying almost 60% more than I was originally quoted for the work. When I complained about the poor service I'd received from the original estimator, the haulers -- who were otherwise very pleasant and professional -- shrugged, saying the guy who gave me the estimate was notorious at the company for laziness and for giving bad estimates. Basically, I was the victim of a bait-and-switch, told the job would be done for one price and then eventually charged a lot more. If your budget can handle an unexpected boost of costs by more than half, Junk King are the right people for you. If you prefer to be charged something closer to what you're told it's going to cost, you would be well advised to look elsewhere. read more

We set up an appointment for an estimate. They did not call or appear during the two hour window for the appointment. When we called them 20 minutes after that time, they said that someone would call us back within 10 minutes. Another half hour passed and no one called. We called back and left another message. Eventually we got a call back saying that the truck had broken down and that is why they could not come. That is understandable, but did their phone break down as well? After being reassured that this problem would no reoccur, we scheduled an appointment for the following day. Again, they did not appear or call. About an hour and a half after the appointment, they sent an automated email stating that the appointment had been cancelled. Very unreliable. read more

Made an appointment, they didn't honor it because they overbooked. Here's how I know you overbooked. Originally my time was for 3 - 5. You told me you couldn't make that because you had another job, so you pushed it to 5, then called to tell me you couldn't do it that day, because the job was too big. Which means, you booked someone for my appointment, and then tried to push me to another day. After reading the reviews, I would lucky enough to prepare for this and had already called 2 other junk removal services in preparation for the cancel. If I have to call another service as a backup because your service is known for being unreliable, you don't operate a good business. read more

Junk King was hired by the contractor who did our roof to haul away the old shingles. We were very disappointed in the roofing company. They left our yard a mess. Jay and Sarah of Junk King were awesome!! These roofing guys were very unprofessional and half way through the job told Jay they weren't going to pay him. Jay and Sarah had to work their way through a huge pile of shingles and load it into the truck( they were told by roofers everything was going to be bagged, it wasn't). They hauled everything away and even helped pick up nails that were left everywhere in the yard by the roofers. Jay and Sarah went above and beyond with their service. We scheduled an estimate and pick up with Junk King with a 9:00-11:00 AM window slot. We received a call from the driver at approximately 9:30 AM saying they would see us in the afternoon. I told him we were booked for the morning. He then said "Oh I was looking at the wrong thing. We'll see you in an hour and a half at 11:00. That was the last time we heard from them. At 11:15, I called the number they used to call me and no one answered. I called the company's main number and told them no one had arrived and I had not heard from them. I was then told they would contact them and I would get a call. That didn't happen. No call. At 11:40 I called the company's number again and was told, sorry and that I would get a call. I never received a call. At 12:30 PM, I called the company again and cancelled Junk King. I do not recommend Junk King. This company was excellent; I was over the top impressed with how polite the crew was. They had to do an extra trip because of a tight squeeze in an old building in Boston, and were extra careful to not damage any part of the walls or threshold. I was surprised to hear they are out of RI but servicing the Boston area. A special thank you to Leo, who was one of the most professional, helpful and communicative contractors I've ever worked with. I had used Junk King in May last year for a junk removal. I had a great experience, so I called them up again this year to do the same. During Quarantine, I had gone thru my closets and cabinets and weeded out the old and never-used-again items, thinking that Goodwill and Salvation Army might take them when they're open again. Nope. Not happening. So, I texted Junk King but they never gave me an estimate back. So I called yesterday(Sunday), and they were able to give me a window today(Monday) from 1-3pm. They arrived a little after 1:30pm and left before 2pm. Super nice, efficient and they wore masks and gloves for the entire visit. I'd recommend them to anyone looking to get rid of junk. read more

Junk King called me on Friday explaining that one of their trucks was being repaired and they were down to one truck and needed to reschedule some of the appointments for Sunday. Being a rational human I understood their problem but I explained to them that I had made my reservation a while ago because our new couch was being delivered Tuesday and needed it out before then. The representative assured me that I would be one of the reservations that remained on the schedule for Sunday. I waited for them between 11-1 and no one showed. When I called, the representative informed me that Junk King Boston had cancelled all pick ups for Sunday. When asked why I was not informed of the cancellation, the representative said they looked at the notes in my account and saw I was called on Friday regarding the pick-up. I was called, spoke with someone and confirmed the reservation, but not to CANCEL IT! Unprofessional service, lack of communication. Called Junk King and 2 other places for an estimate on a house clean out, plus garage. Junk King came out and took photos of all the junk throughout the house and garage, estimate was $1,323. The other 2 disposal services both estimated about $1,500 so I called Junk King back and scheduled a day for them to complete the job. They arrived on that date, were friendly and on time. They walked through the property and took photos again, but told me their initial estimate was way off. I was now told it would cost $3,100!!! I was shocked and asked how the price could more than double before even starting? He had no answer for me, but did call his office to speak to a "manager" and after about 15 minutes on the phone said they could do it for $2,800. I declined the offer and called a local junk man who did the whole job for $1,300 within 2 days. Very disappointed in Junk King and the jacked up price on the very day of the appointment, which left me scrambling for a reasonable disposal company. read more

Did NOT show up on my scheduled slot time. I called multiple times during my slot time to get an eta or an answer on when they would be coming. Dealing with customer service was frustrating to the point of pure confusion -- they could not provide me with anything like an eta or anything helpful. All they could do was to let the junk removal people coming know to contact me with their eta. ??? Nevertheless, I still did not get a call from anyone during my slot time so it felt like no one was coming. Given the no show and lack of information on what was going on, I ended up having to move my furniture myself which was just a LOVELY surprise... I wound up finally getting a call from the driver an HOUR after my slot had ended, in which they called mumbling something vaguely "about an eta?" ......... They then without so much of a 'sorry' offered to come again the next day but there was *nothing* to justify taking up the offer. Please do not consider this service if you value punctuality, have a strict move out time, or a set deadline for your junk to be removed. update: the owner replied with an extremely long explanation. In my opinion, it was without much substance and disappointing. I have attached a photo of what the truck was carrying when it arrived. It was not an empty truck. These guys didn't haul a full truckload, even though I was promised a full truckload. I need to be reimbursed for this 1/3 truckload they didn't haul for me. All I got are words and words. BTW, all the explanations about truck tipping with heavy weights were very dubious, because they put in at least two trash bags of heavy stuff, and the rest were light wood. Terrible experience. Either this service is deceptive, and/or the management and the labor have extremely bad communication. The manager Eric was very eager to get my business, calling me multiple times and offering me a large concession in price to haul one full truck load. Two men showed up with a truck that is 1/3 full from a previous haul. That was a bad beginning. Interestingly enough, the two workers immediately began to complain my negotiated price was too low for the job. I guess they never learned how to honor a contract. I was kind/foolish enough to let them start moving things. In retrospect, I should just tell these guys to leave immediately. The two workers then swore they could fit everything in. They of course didn't. Then the manager got on the phone, blaming me that he could not make any money on the haul because the workers had to haul dry wall debris. First, these terms never appeared on the contract. Second, if avoiding these items is so important, shouldn't YOU tell workers not to move them? Oh right, you also "forgot" to tell them the contract is for a "truck" full. I guess the contract means nothing to you. Thirdly, I also found that most of the dry wall debris was still in my garage! They moved very little of the heavy stuff. It was pouring, and I decided to send them away, and I also honored the contract by paying. In retrospect again, I was way too kind, because when I called to complain, Eric never called back. Hey Eric, do you remember how you begged for my business? What a shame. BTW, I have photo evidence of the 1/3 full truck when they came in if the company is ever interested in following up. Now due to my budget, I will need to rent a dumpster to deal with the rest of the junk myself, and all the broken bags and other messes the Junk King moving crew caused. Massive headache. read more

I contacted Chad King on yelp and they got back to me within 10 minutes, we set up an appointment the next day for them to come and give me an estimate. The estimate was more than fair and we arrange for them to come two days later. On the day of our appointment, they were a little late, but called to inform me, so it wasn't a big deal.When they arrived they had a full crew with them to make sure of the process went quick as possible. The whole crew was friendly and respectful and got everything out of the apartment within an hour and a half. I chose them over 800-GOT-JUNK because of availability. I spent my Saturday getting my junk into my driveway to make it an easy pickup but they never showed up. When i called to see where they were they claimed they tried to contact me but they didn't get an answer. I was confused because i got a confirmation text message confirming my appointment and assumed I was good to go. I had no missed calls or voicemails from them. The low rating is not because of this, or even the no show but because of what i considered to be poor customer service. When i spoke to customer service they simply stated that the driver said they called and i was "unresponsive". They never mentioned anything about a second confirmation being required. The email does say they would call to let you know they are on the way, but nothing about it being a prerequisite to coming. They asked me if i wanted to reschedule for two days later (appointment was on a Saturday). How could i reschedule when there wasn't even a voice mail, email or text looking for me? I was outside for half the day getting everything ready for them to pick it up. So here i am, Saturday evening carrying all this junk back to the inside of my garage so hang onto it until at least Monday. read more

While a bit more expensive, this was ten times better than renting a dumpster. I didn't have to leave a dumpster in my driveway for a week, worrying about kids falling in it, or neighbors or strangers putting their trash or appliances in it in the dead of night. Also, I didn't have to load the truck. Three very nice men showed up, and took all the junk out of my house for me. For just about twice the cost of a dumpster, I got rid of everything I needed to in just a day, and I didn't have to do any of the heavy lifting. DONT BE FOOLED BY THE OTHER REVIEWS. I booked a pick up with this company for Memorial Day weekend in Cambridge. At the exact time of the scheduled pickup time, the company canceled the pick up because the city dumps are closed on Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day occurs every year and this is a junk service company. Why would they confirm an appointment with me when they did not have the capacity? Who knows? It is completely unacceptable. I planned my move out around this company and they left me in the dust without giving me any warning. They should have known better than to schedule with me when they didn't have capacity, or should have warned me that it could happen. DO NOT USE. I recommend a bigger company for the Boston area like 1 800 Got Junk who were able to come in at a moments notice on a holiday weekend and saved me from a lot of trouble caused by this company. read more

After a bad experience with Spirit Delivery through Home Depot, we called Junk King for a same day refrigerator haul away. It was important for us to get the refrigerator out the same day since we were having guests stay the night and we have a small apartment. Instead of waiting for Home Depot to do it the next day for $15, we decided to go with Junk King same day haul away for $210. We told them it was for a fourth floor walk up apartment, and that it was a standard refrigerator. A team of two guys came, saw the refrigerator, and immediately started complaining, saying that the service manager described the refrigerator as being smaller. We let them know that we communicated it was a standard sized refrigerator from the very beginning. One of the men was uncomfortable and so they refused to remove it. They put me on the phone with the service manager Eric, who said that they wouldn't be able to remove it that day and that we'd have to wait until tomorrow when "two guys who could deal with a refrigerator would be working." I told him I had let them know it was a standard size refrigerator and that I wasn't sure why they sent two people who couldn't handle it. I also told him that I had already taken a day off work and that I couldn't take another, and that we would've gone with Home Depot for $15, but decided to go with them since it was time sensitive. Eric was rude and unhelpful, and we'll never use Junk King again. We wanted to give our business to a local company, but unfortunately they couldn't make it happen. read more
