I liked the cool Knick knacks and decor. I thought it was very creative. But the food I guess matched the name. Junk. I ordered the calamari, which claimed to be the "best" but it was the worst. Very chewy, no crunch, definitely was previously frozen and no flavor. Then I tried the chili and which was more like Mexican beans than chili. After that we were thrown off and didn't want to take chances so we left without ordering entrees. This place could be cool if the food was better. read more

A great local spot with fun, kitschy decor and a menu as big as a high school history book! The menu is cute and handwritten/drawn, with tons of food to choose from! Breakfast goes until 2pm which is great, and the options for your meal are endless. There's truly something for everyone. The food is good but not amazing, and they have some unique drink selections like the Lucky Duck which was sweet but good once some of the ice melted down! Had lunch with my son two weeks ago and we both had delicious burgers with a plentiful amount of French fries. The double burgers were reasonably priced too. The artifacts and decor kind of reminded me of famous Tommy's Joint in San Francisco. We will definitely will be coming back! read more

As Betty Davis, an actress from a bygone, long ago era, after seeing Junkyard Café would have said, "Wot a dump!" Charm of this restaurant is its collection of tchotchke deliberately placed from the ceiling to the floor inside and scattered around the outside which is reminiscent of Buffalo Bruce's Mercantile in Sylmar which, incidently, has more tasteful food in general,   Inside has 3 major dining rooms: basic full service bar lounge for over 21 year olds w/ Happy Hour drinks in the bar only; main room with hanging bicycles; a Tiki Room that was not used on a Thursday night. Our bushy bearded bear-like waiter, Josue, was  friendly, laid back, helpful, and was the best feature at the Junkyard.  Topa Topa IPA comes out ice cold and stays that way for a long time in a massive, thick glass goblet that you have to use both hands to pick up unless you work out with hundred pound weights everyday.  This version of IPA is refreshIng, lighter, less infused w/ astringent, bitter hops & possibly less alcohol. It's as though a strong IPA were diluted w/ a lager much like Espresso can be diluted w/ hot water for an Americano. $9 Onion Rings are coated w/ what seems like Japanese Panko bread crumbs for a very satisfyingly crunchy effect. Might have been slightly over fried since the onion inside became overly creamy & mushy. Still good rings, but at $7, the portion was pretty paltry.  Sea Creature is in a small bowl w/ 4 jumbo shrimp hanging on lip of the bowl, handful of crisp Calamari Fritti mostly small rings and a few tentacles. Unfortunately, probably due to supply chain breakdowns, they were out of clams so the waiter gave me two differently battered, blander Calamari for variety. Hidden at the bottom are deep fried onions soggy & dripping w/ frying oil that was No Bueno. Junkyard should have used a few Panko onion rings instead for a more edible finish. $15 Dessert: Moonshine Cherries are two, bright, neon red Maraschino (mah rah skee noh) cherries stems on that seem marinated in high alcohol almond extract. They come in a small clear glass jar to show off the flourescent, rubid glow. $3 "Lighten up. Life is short." is Junkyard's motto which I whole heartedly agree, and eating here regularly may lead to a shorter life. It's not exactly health food.  However, for a night out w/ your buddies to shoot the breeze and not having to watch your table manners like at a trois étoile Guide Michelin restaurant is a good way to decompress from stresses in our Covid pandemic world.  A-OK, 3+ stars read more

This is an awesome place to get some grub. They offer a variety of food. Everything about this place is so cool! The food is delicious. Love the decorations. It's like a museum with food. Chris our server was great! They have outdoor patio and plenty of parking. Dogs are allowed which is definitely a plus! Return trip today, Chelsea was our server. She was super awesome. The food was so delicious and we had a variety to choose from. We are very happy with happy hour! My baby sisters first time and she was impressed. What a treasure! VERY eclectic dining area and bar. Great service and lots of food choices in inspired menus that take some time to review. The Thursday night we were there, a singer/guitarist in the bar was performing. We sat far from him and it was still a loud place where conversations are difficult. Interesting place. Loots to look at. Huge menu. Very accommodating staff. We were a group of 6 seniors, came in with out reservations 45 min before closing. Happy to seat us. Wonderful staff. We all ordered something different & asked for 4 separate checks. No problem , no sour looks. Can't say enough about the staff. The food was excellent, fresh & huge!! I absolutely loved this place. And every time I order the steamers clams. This time my boyfriend and I went in and got the steamers and noticed there wasn't much broth which was different but then we went to eat the clams and about 90% were empty so we thought let's take the shells out they must be in the bottom of the broth. There were none. We were so hesitant to tell the server because we know it's a pain since we both work in the industry but we had to because it was a dish we paid for, were sharing, and it's my favorite dish. The server was so kind but then the owners daughter who is a manager/bartender came up so hostile and told us that is " nearly impossible" and to "never order this dish again because I don't believe that at all". My boyfriend explained that it is true and we thought they'd be in the bottom and weren't. She was pissed. LOVE JUNKYARD CAFE! We've been coming her since moving to Simi about 3.5 years ago. It's our weekly spot. Food is fresh, delicious, and abundant. The decor is amazing. We've been coming for over 3 years, and every time, we spot something that we didn't see before. My husband loves the meatloaf, and my son loves the Shepard pie. I can't decide on my favorite. The Ruben's flavor was okay, but meat and bread was dry. I think it can use a touch more thousand island and Swiss. The onion ring were severely over fried. The chili cheese burger did not hit the mark either. The chili was more like a whole can of refried beans dumped on the plate, and did not taste too chili-y. The burger tasted like low quality cheap meat. The service was okay. Server was quick to take order and deliver food, but failed to refill drinks. It's hard to find a theme restaurant now adays. Junkyard Cafe is just that. It's met to look grungy with rags as napkins and junk scattered all over the place. I think this place literally has everything including the kitchen sink. There is plenty of seating and has a nice dive bar that is a local go to place. There are probably hundreds of menu items to choose from. There is a myriad of entrees, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, etc. A few that I've tried are the double and triple country fried steak sandwich, the Tri Tip sandwich (think philly style sandwich), the meatloaf sandwich (comes with a really good gravy), and the fish and chips. The serving sizes are. generous, even for lunch, and there are various selections for side dishes other than your standards french fries, such as their mac and cheese, and their home made potato chips. Every single time, I promise my self that I would take half of the food home, but I can't control myself and end up eating the whole order, often regretting getting stuffed afteward. Servers are always attentive and helpful if you can't decide or ...even read... the menu. You will know what I mean when you actually see the menu. The place is open reasonably late, and is a local watering hole. The bar has a happy hour and a large selection of liquor, cocktails, and beer. Even if you are just passing by Simi Valley, you need to stop here. Make sure you bring a sense of humor because, yeah, it really looks like a dirty junk yard. I don't know where to start. I walked in and immediately the decor is so all over the place like there's naked Barbie dolls nailed into this wall that extends all the way down this walkway. The menus were the worst menus I've ever seen. Literally everything that can be wrong with a menu and more. I looked at it for 10 minutes and still didn't know what to eat. I was hungry for pasta but I couldn't find it. Turns out it's on the page that has "chicken" written in different colored markers surrounded by clutter I couldn't even tell what I was looking at. Oh yeah the menus are held together in binders!!! BINDERS!!!!!!! I ordered the Memphis tri tip sandwich and it tasted off. I don't even know how to say it like the meat tasted awkward? I really wanted to like this place. The decor is cool and I was surprised at how huge the parking lot was and how full it was. There were so many people here. The menu sounded delicious. First off I waitress was amazing! I felt bad for her. 1.the wings were still ice cold the whole lower half (had the waitress feel them) 2. The meatloaf was bland and mushy and was.... cold. 3. The veggies were still frozen. This is just sad. I guess it is harder to reheat frozen food in a commercial kitchen. They messed up the check then charged us for all the cold food that was not eaten. We had a party of 9. We waited 30 minutes for a table. We were sat next to a large party of baseball kids and parents. VERY LOUD. Had to yell at each other to be heard. After waiting another 20 minutes we had to ask the waiter to please take our order. I've never really ate anything I liked much. Tonight I ordered the tri tip sandwich with coleslaw. The coleslaw made the bread soggy. With that said the sandwich was really good. It'll be my go to here. Daughter ordered the jalapeño poppers. She was given 4 poppers for $13. You really can't beat the happy hour here. They have a great selection of draft beers in big frozen schooners. They take $1 off during happy hour. The $1 tacos are really good!
