Stopped in for my first time this weekend for brunch and thought it was pretty good overall. Not the best that I've had recently, but definitely not the worst. I would classify this place as a little country diner, which is something that I am a big fan of. It's quite small on the inside, but packed with character and I like how the tables are not too close together. Our server was polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. Parking in the area is pretty easy, we found a free street spot just around the corner. I wanted to order one of their most popular dishes, so I chose the Country Fried Steak. I was not a huge fan of the gravy, but I thought the steak was cooked well and I would say that I enjoyed it. I also got a side of Biscuits, which comes with the meal, but I wasn't the biggest fan of these. They weren't fluffy or flaky , but more dense. More closer to a muffin. I was also not a big fan of the gravy so I didn't enjoy that side as much as I thought I would. Overall, I would definitely give this place another try sometime in the future and would suggest to anyone in the area searching for a little diner to have some breakfast. read more

Food was great! We had chicken fried steak and pancakes. Both were amazing! I was craving a breakfast burrito and didn't know they have one that's part of the secret menu. Old school cafe, dated, which I expected. Every inch of the walls were covered in cowboy themed decor and faded art. Formica tables, cement floor, paneled walls from the 1970s. Scramble eggs and hash browns were just ok, pancake was tasteless. Not even the margarine and syrup helped the lack of flavor. Portions decent. Prices were a bit high. Fruit cup was good, overflowing. The muffin was definitely store bought. I was happy to support a small business but won't be back. read more

I was there on Presidents' Day with my wife and two daughters. We had an amazing experience. It had been a little while since we've been to the cactus patch. I'm not gonna lie. Our waitress was great! My daughter ordered what she wanted and build her own burrito that was not on the menu. My other daughter loves chocolate chips added to her pancakes, and that was not an issue at all. The Sunrise Sandwich I got was fantastic. lots of ham, excellent. I am giving 2 stars because staff were very friendly. However, food was terrible. It took long time for our food to come out. The waffle that I ordered took extra 10 minutes and it wasn't even fully cooked. It was brown at the edges around, but rest was pale and halfway cooked. Nothing like fluffy. Size of waffle was a half of other restaurants and whip cream looked like they tried hard to give as little as they could possible. Coffee tasted worse than my instant coffee. We visited a farm in Moorpark and needed lunch! On Mondays so much is closed. We walked past three places before finding Cactus Patch. Service was friendly. I ordered the turkey club sandwich with Cole slaw(instead of fries). There was so much bread. It's hard to mess up Cole slaw. And I am a Cole slaw snob. Breakfast this morning with my blushing bride at Cactus Patch Restaurant in beautiful and rustic Old Town Moorpark. This is a delightful older restaurant that is very clean, comfortable and decorated with lots of interesting period items. The staff is really kind and provides the right amount and type of attention. This place is quite obviously liked by the older locals! Our meals were a bit of a mixed bag. The blushing bride had her "regular": vegetable omelette. There wasn't one listed on the menu so it was custom designed and included mushroom and spinach. It was really fresh and tasty. I had the Riley Special: biscuit and gravy, a couple of over-easy eggs and a couple of sausage patties. I liked the sausage and eggs but didn't care for the "famous" biscuit and gravy. They were both sweet, which was an unwelcome taste. The gravy, perhaps, was "milk sweet" because it was under seasoned. Putting salt on it partially controlled the sweetness. I won't order that again but there are plenty of other options. I'm calling this 4 stars despite not really liking my meal because every other aspect was perfect. We received proper attention with no rushing and had a perfectly relaxing experience. read more

We love this place!! This is where the family chooses to meet up when we can all get together. We've been coming for years. It's quaint and charming with a lot of history. It's very casual and laid back. It's sort of like an old diner. The servings are good size, the servers and owner are all very nice too and the food is great... ..it's just a great place. A little off the beaten track - this street looks like a different decade. The sign on front door said closed Wednesday for filming. I inquired what they were shooting and a fellow patron spoke up and said "stranger things" the tv show. Cool! My husband and I split the cactus famous country breakfast. We were famished and missed taking the picture as it arrived. My picture of the meal is after it was split. The dish included biscuits and gravy. Biscuits are the dry dense type and the gravy, using my husbands comments were heavily mushroom tasting. My guess...mushroom soup is in the recipe.the home fries were hash browns topped with onions and peppers. Nice breakfast - nothing out of the ordinary. Staff friendly enough and a decent cup of Joe. I have a few favorites that I am very fond of and are my go too's over the years and totally forgot to give them the "Kudos" they deserved. A breakfast place that I have been going to for 20+ years that deserves that shout out is The Cactus Patch in Moorpark, a family owned for years and serving the community with delicious hearty breakfasts and lunches for a very long time. Early risers working the local ranches, farms and construction workers getting their for breakfast of champions. For me it's breakfast on the weekend as well as lunch, happy friendly locals serving you and they know their frequent customers. Outstanding breakfast featuring house made biscuits and gravy, country fried steaks, sausage patty's and our kids showing up with their pancakes. Weekend specials featuring eggs Benedict, great omelets and the chefs specialties featuring chile verde and chorizo dishes. As High Street begins its transition from old Moorpark to the new Moorpark this establishment still stands strong and I would love to see this great dining establishment become a go to for others as it has for me. Love the place. I would take the train from Burbank to eat breakfast here all the time. Great breakfast however, came today and no country music, no music at all ... I would love to see them bring back the music in the background, music ALWAYS adds so much ambience and changes the vibe completely, especially at a place like this. Came in a little before 10:30 on a Sunday and were immediately seated. It did pick up right after 10:30 and every table was full. The service was excellent, friendly and quick. It's a cute little cafe with so much to look at on the walls. They brought our food out quick. Portions are generous. I had the Riley and husband had 2x2x2. Service was amazing. It was my first time here. The whole staff was super polite and friendly. Most restaurants when you ask a staff for a more napkins, a refill, they say, "let me get your server." Realizing that this seems to be a beloved Old Town Moorpark mainstay for breakfast, I'm sorry to report that we had a dismal experience today. SC Edison scheduled a power outage in our neighborhood, so I was up early and ready to head out. Plans included a shopping trip to the Camarillo Outlets, so I searched Yelp for an interesting indy spot for breakfast on the way. Moorpark was slightly out of the way, but I opted for local character. Kitschy, ancient decor greeted us when we entered Cactus Patch, but sadly, no one on their staff did. We seated ourselves and waited for someone to acknowledge us. It didn't get much better than that. Coffee was mediocre, weak, and not very warm. We were never offered cream or sweetener. Dear Hubby went out to the car for our own stash of Stevia. Strike one. Took a while for a waitress to come by. Too long, as they weren't that busy. She asked if we were ready to order, but we hadn't been offered menus. To try to expedite eating, we selected from the specials on their board. Unfortunately, it took another long while for the food to come out. When it did, mine was barely lukewarm. Very disappointing. The only hot thing on either plate was the gravy for DH's biscuit, and they charge an extra 95 cents for the gravy. Overall, we sat there wishing that Robert Irvine was still doing restaurant makeovers on TV, as Cactus Patch could surely use a re-do. They've been in business since 1970. Not quite sure how they made it that long. I would forgive a lot of sins if I'd been served hot food in a reasonable amount of time while being made to feel welcome. None of this happened. Only the busser, who politely kept refilling the coffee, seemed to be caring of the guests. We likely won't be returning. Oh yes, one final note - the back of my chair fell off when I was pushing it under the table upon leaving. Wow! read more

The place looks nice but the food wasn't worth the money. Pretty mediocre and the service wasn't anything impressive. They also didn't have lots of stuff listed on their menu. Ordered a pancake sandwich and received 3 pancakes, one scrambled egg and 2 small slices of bacon spread out on the plate. Apparently it's not actually a sandwich. My wife got the "peaches and cream" waffles which was just canned peaches and whipped cream on one waffle. Not impressed. The decor was very cool to look at though. read more

I'm giving this place 2 stars for the friendly service. Beyond that, this restaurant has gone downhill. I used to go once a month 15 years ago and the food was always great. Today, my wife and I ordered the Moorpak Breakfast, and it was extremely bland. The pancakes tasted like they were reheated, steak and eggs no flavor. Best darn patty melt I've ever had! Seriously! Patty was thick and juicy.. and cooked/served just the way I asked. Bread was toasted perfectly, plenty of chedder cheese and onions perfectly carmelized. Potato salad was good. The consistency looked homemade but tasted a little on the store bought side, but again, still good. My suggestion for the place, spend a little $ on redecorating and new carpet. Sad to see a place in decline. We went in at 8am on a Saturday. Only one other guy in there. Should've taken that as a warning. We sat ourselves and waited about 5 minutes before someone appeared from the back. Kinda weird not to have any staff in front of a restaurant. The coffee was pretty good. I went for eggs, bacon and home fries. "We don't have any home fries. We'll, we're cooking them right now. They won't be ready." Ok, hash browns it is. The eggs were fluffy but soaked in cooking oil. Hash browns were fine, bacon was crispy which I'm a fan of but the quality was terrible. We got the check and dropped our cards on top. After about 10 minutes the staff wasn't looking up from their phones so we walked up and paid. By 9am there were a whopping 3 tables seated. My husband and I drive to Moorpark every Sunday to eat breakfast at the Cactus Patch restaurant. We have been going there since moving to California nearly 30 years ago. It is like going to grandma's house for Sunday breakfast. Just good old-fashioned cooking that is great and always consistent. When I wake up on Sunday mornings that is the first thing I think about. The servers are so kind and nice I feel like I'm visiting family, only they wait on you! My kids are now grown and living in another state, yet my husband and I continue our tradition. We have taken many friends and family members with us visiting from out of state and local friends who also love it and join us for breakfast. It is a very friendly, old town feeling, nice family gathering spot. If you are ever in Moorpark stop in and enjoy. read more
