I got the pit master and it was gross, I tried someone elses and it was much much much better than mine. I think fundamentally 10 bucks for fancy mac and cheese is a bit much. You dont get very much although I ate around all the BBQ in mine and i was stuffed because its pretty filling. Maybe if it included a small salad that would have been nice. Get some ruffage. Or have some good rolls to go around than the toast they gave me(it was also gross). I suggest they take the pit master off the menu. You cant put sliced extra lean sorta dry beef in mac and cheese. I had rather low expectations going into my Jus' Mac experience based on the mixed Yelper reviews. My thought going in was that the mac 'n cheese had better be DAMN good to justify it being $10.00 per serving. Well, when I arrived I saw that the mac 'n cheese is not actually $10.00 as multiple Yelpers have refrained. Actually, out of the 20 or so varieties there are 2 or 3 kinds priced at $9.95, one of those being the oft-reviewed buffalo wing 'n blue cheese variety. However, most of the remaining varieties are evenly split between a pricetag of $6.95, $7.95 or $8.95. My friend and I decided we wanted to try three kinds of mac 'n cheese between the two of us. She ordered the cheeseburger kind ($7.95, I think), I ordered the "Rustica" kind (garlic, spinich, tomatoes & parmesan) ($7.95, I think), and we shared the standard American mac 'n cheese ($6.95). I found the cheeseburger variety revolting. It was uncanny how much it tasted like a McDonald's cheeseburger, which I don't consider to be a good thing. However, the "Rustica" mac 'n cheese that I ordered was absolutely DIVINE. I will have dreams about it, it was that good. Creamy garlicy perfection. And the standard mac 'n cheese was pretty darn good too. I will definitely be back for a special treat once in a while. FYI, the mac 'n cheese made for excellent leftovers, as well! I was really excited for this place. I adore Mac n' Cheese, and as the name implies - this place has plenty of it. The menu is long, with interesting variations on the old time favorite including Buffalo Chicken, a BBQ one with Brisket, and a white cheese one with cut up slab bacon in it. I went for the one with bacon, and the SO got the Buffalo Chicken. We split a Caesar Salad to start, and ordered a couple of brews to wash it all down with. Our total came to over $40. (For 2 Bottles of Beer, a Salad and 2 regular sized Mac n' Cheeses - a little on the steep side I think) The Salad came out with a lot of croutons, and was"Knife and Fork" style - whole leaves of Romaine. It was a beautiful salad, and if I ever find out what brand of dressing that was - I'll buy it and likely not come here again. It was the best part of the meal. They go a little light on the dressing, which I don't mind - but the SO needed more. We asked for some, and were charged an additional 50 cents. When it was time for the Main Event - I assumed it was going to be out of this world - and was sadly let down. The dish was very dry and the noodles were sticking to the bottom of the skillet it was served to me on. The SO's looked to be a little more creamy - but he also asked for extra sauce - and again was charged another 50 cents. As I sat there., silently picking at my plate SO looked over, and knowing how much I was looking forward to this place, and how often I order Mac n' Cheese elsewehre - could tell I obviously was not happy. He offered to get me another salad since he knew I liked that, but truthfully - i just wanted to go home. I may try this place again, but it will take an act of some sort of higher power to get me to change my opinion. The Mac n' Cheese at 300 Sports Lounge on Washington is WAY better (could use a few less onions) and is WAY more appropriately priced. read more

This place is amazing and very good. Ambiance is amazing and just has a good vibe. Food is incredibly good and i love the flavor they cone up with. Try the buffalo and the cowboy its amazing. Price is actually really good also. I feel like a big kid here eating mac and cheese but at the same time like an adult because of the combinations. Yesterday I went to Crave Cupcake after lunch, Berripop yogurt later in the day and Jus' Mac for dinner! Man I am a trend follower. These one-item kinda places get my motor runnin. There was one called S'MAC in manhattan that I was a huge fan of and frequented a little tooo often Verdict: My mac had the runs!! Great decor, great execution and great taste but I was expecting a mac casserole and received mac soup more or less.. using a spoon is far more effective than a fork for this dish. I went here on a weekend and it was slightly crowded I waited in line for about 10 minutes which I didn't mind because their menu is listed on the wall so I had time to select what I wanted. The food came out quickly and was served steaming hot. I ordered the cowboy Mac and cheese and it was wonderfully appetizing. I especially loved how they add breadcrumbs on top. One of my favorite spots to get lunch in Houston. Like the name suggests, it is basically just mac. Now there are a few other items, but the show here is mac and cheese. It is walk up counter service, so don't expect to be at a sit down restaurant, and the dishes come out in a cast iron skillet. The pasta is home made, and I love adding bread crumbs on to, which is great. My favorites have been the Pit Master (brisket and bbq sauce), Buffalo Chicken, and the Big Blue. When you want to pig out and eat way to much calories, this is the place to come. read more

Oh gosh, I just had a fabulous Mac n Cheese lunch today. So many assorted mac n cheese dishes to try, but I opted for the All-American with a blend of different cheeses topped with Colby Jack cheese. A-MAZ-ING! So gooey and stretchy cheese, like taking a bite out of a cheesy pizza!! The mac was a perfect texture too, not too soft nor too 'al dente'. They serve it in a cast iron pan keeping the mac n cheese hot during your entire meal. The service was quick and staff friendly. It's pretty small in there, so I imagine coming at lunch or dinner peak times will be difficult for seating, even finding a place to park. I did see a sign for additional parking across the street. I really like this place and it's simple comfort food concept --but frankly, it's too pricey for what it is -- just mac. $10 for a small pan of mac 'n cheese, in tiny restaurant resembling a shed, in a bad neighborhood with impossible parking...well...it's worth coming once to check out-- but I have a hard time believing they'll establish the regulars they need to sustain : /. It's a pity though because I think the couple that owns it and the few employees are trying very hard to do right. Simple answer guys, knock $3 off your dishes and you will be 4 to 5 stars easy! True to yelpers recommendations, the buffalo wing one was very tasty, and my favorite was actually the spinach one. Great because: 1. The food. The Fried Cheese Balls (ADD BACON) with Marinara and Cheese sauce is to die for. Possibly the BEST fried thing I've ever eaten (excluding fries, of course. B/c that's a whole other category by itself). The bacon is bursting with flavor, the cheese gives it that wonderful gooey texture, and the fried crust adds a necessary crunch. Dip it in the marinara, which is perfect with the cheese because it errs ever so slightly on the saltier (and tastier) side. Or dip it in the cheese sauce, which I suspect has cream cheese?? I'm not a cheese expert. But it has a hint of sweetness that pairs SO well with the bacon. It's kind of pricey...5 ping pong-sized mac & cheese & bacon balls with sauce for $7...but seriously. They're such delicious little balls of flavor, texture, and cheesy goodness. If you go to Jus Mac, try these. So far, I've had the Italiano and the Buffalo Chicken. I'd rate the Italiano a 3.5/5. It's great mac & cheese, is very filling, and the herbs give it that classic Italian flavor. The meatballs were okay, I started avoiding them half way through because I was so full off of Cheese Balls..haha. Buffalo Chicken = 5/5, for sure (granted, I took this to go and ate it with Kosher dill pickles, which added just the right amount of acidity to break up the cheesy). The chicken, being baked with the mac & cheese on top, stayed very tender and moist, which was a relief because I'm typically not a fan of chicken. At all. Thick slab bacon is great, as always, but I was a little disappointed by how I had to look for the bacon pieces. =] 2. The ambiance. The music selection made me pretty excited. I'd never expected to hear Kpop (Korean Pop) in an All-American restaurant that's focused on Mac & Cheese. It definitely made me appreciate the cultural reach of whoever's music they play. =] Needless to say, they also play more recognizable genres from various generations. The semi-self-serve aspect of ordering and paying before getting our food, getting our own drinks and utensils, and finding our own seats played well with the brick-walled interior and simple table setup. It's a cozy little place. Not so great because: 1. The location/ neighborhood. I passed it up the first time I tried to find it because it's a tiny little place amidst what looked like abandoned warehouses, lots, etc. Not the most presentable part of Houston, and slightly unsettling after dark. Also not the most easily accessible with construction on 610 and terribly bumpy roads. The parking lot is pretty small/ dingy too. 2. The price. When there is no hostess, minimal table service, and basically only mac and cheese on the menu, I feel like prices could be a little cheaper. Granted, it was great mac & cheese and the ingredients they use (if I bought them from a grocery store) probably would have added up to be more than $10...maybe? Overall: I loved it, and will definitely be going back for more (really want to try the Bacon Bliss). I live down the street, and have been patiently waiting for this place to open up. Since the place is new, I very well may change my review, but so far not impressed. I understand the opening troubles, but supply and plumbing issues aside, I really just didn't think the food was that great. ... I had the chik chik. It tasted like the chicken was cooked yesterday (if not earlier) and then just tossed in to the mac and cheese. I could have made something better in less than the time it took to finally get home with food. The rustic was slightly better, but I ended up seasoning both with salt, pepper, and pepper flakes. For $22 I expected a better product. I'll give it another go, because they're still working out the kinks (despite 10 months to get it together). I ended up ordering the mac with brisket and added jalapenos. I had to bust out my maginifying glass to find the jalapenos (which were an upcharge). When I asked the waitress where they were, she proceeded to point out one in my food. I gave her a crazy look and she asked if I wanted more, to which I responded yes, please. I couldn't believe that I had to actually dig in my food to find something I paid extra for. But, enough on that. I also had to dig for the brisket. For a $9 serving, I was expecting at least a bigger portion size if the meat and add-ons weren't present. There's too many good restaurants in the Heights to give this place a second chance. With help from J-squared: Ok, so I'm going to erase my bad review from yesterday but I will average it in with my 4-star review from today. I went on Thursday night and they did run out of noodles and cheese at 730pm. My friends and I were frustrated and I left a bad review and the restaurant does deserve it. Their response "it is what it is". I agree. This is their first week so hopefully they increase their supply going forward because we live in Texas. Comfort food is king here and if you serve the #1 comfort food, you better be prepared to keep up with demand. So luckily, I live quite close to this place. I worked from home today and asked a friend to join me to try this treat. At lunch there wasn't much of a wait! Parking is decent here but the parking lot is kind of small. There are spots on the streets nearby. On to the food. I asked for a recommendation and was recommended the Rustic (basil, roasted tomatoes, garlic, parm, and mozzarella) and was told to add fresh jalapenos. This was quite good! As you would expect, the flavors marry quite well. The portions aren't Texas-sized but it still filled me up nicely. My friend had the Buffalo Chicken and it was scrumptious. The dish had generous portions of bacon, bleu cheese and chicken. It was also topped off with tangy hot sauce (all you fellow hot sauce lovers will drool over this delicacy). My only complaint would be to leave it in the oven just a tad longer where the cheese slightly browns on the edges! That would make this dish even better! The decor of this place is very cute and cozy. A great food spot for a casual dinner with a group of friends. Its in the heart of the Heights and from the outside it looked like a vintage old tin building. The inside is modern with good size seating (approx. 50) - booths, tables and seating against the windows. This place still has some kinks to work out but they are well on their way to being a Houston favorite. The prices are a tad high but they are one of a kind in Houston so we will all have to deal with it. Please increase your noodles and cheese supply. Their #1 goal should be to treat the customer well. There's no reason they should shut their doors 1.5 hrs early because of no supply. They only do Mac and cheese, and they do it damn well. Technically they have a few other menu items, but I assume that's to satisfy the dieters, who must be tortured upon entry to this place. My good friend and I had the fried Mac and cheese balls, which come with a cheese sauce! Thank God I can never have too much cheese. Hot damn, so good. I went with the Puebla, a slightly spicy Mac and cheese with poblano peppers and Swiss. It was decadent and delicious. My friend had the four cheese variety, and it was nothing short of amazing. At first I thought my GPS was broken until this restaurant appeared out of nowhere. Pulling into the dirt road parking lot I had no idea what to expect. (Lock your doors and hide your valuables) The inside of the restaurant had a comfortable atmosphere and was very clean. The workers there were very nice and attentive and they checked up on us fairly often. I was recommended the Popeye (Fresh Spinach, Onions, Mushrooms, topped w/Mozzarella, Parmesan cheese and bread crumbs) I also ordered the Fried Mac Balls that came with this white sauce and marinara sauce. The Mac Balls were very original and tasted like how you would imagine them to. I felt that the Mac dish became fairly repetitive and would recommend going with a friend to split two different orders. Definitely beats Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. read more

Jus' OK. That's how I would describe this much visited and talked about restaurant. If I had one of their macs and cheese as a side dish at another restaurant, I would say, "mmm . . . that's pretty good." Came here with a friend this weekend and was pretty impressed with their long menu of speciality mac and cheese's. They also had some paninis and salads on the menu but we obviously came here for the main event. We ended up sharing the large size Buffalo Chicken mac and cheese and we both thought it was awesome! Rich as hell but still awesome. It even came with a few pieces of carrots and celery jammed in the sides to make you feel better about eating a pound of cheese for lunch. LIke others mentioned, it is overpriced but they do a good job of making you want to come back and try the other flavors. Jus' Mac is simply just mac. I was really blown away with the concept of having mac and cheese restaurant. It's a brilliant concept. However, there is something lacking there. The prices are exorbitantly expensive for a small plate of mac and cheese. Each dish is topped with different toppings. Our group tried three of the dishes: -Popeye: spinach and mushrooms. It had a lighter taste to it. -Buffalo Chicken: It was exactly that with bleu cheese crumbles. -Some other chicken one: lackluster-- that's why I can't even remember it's name. I've been avoiding this place for over two years now, but after an Elite Yelper friend of mine told me that I couldn't live in the Heights without trying this place, I decided to bite the bullet and go. They showed me the little bitty pan that it would come in and I second guessed my choice again to be there, but I realized that if it wasn't enough there was a fast food place down the street where I could get a burger. My little bitty mac & cheese and a coke cost me about $12 bucks. I wasn't too happy with that total until I tried my first bite. YUMMM! Wow, could Mac & Cheese be this good? I devoured my pan full of Crab Mac & Cheese and about two bites away from being done I realized, "Hey, this is going to fill me up!" I finished my scrumptuous meal and wondered how anyone could eat any more Mac & Cheese than the small portion I had. And I also wondered how in the world I could be full with that quantity -but my tastebuds were pleased and my belly was full - so no burger for me. This place was exactly as I expected. Casual environment, order at the counter with the menu on the wall kind of place. They have a wide selection of Mac mixups, but the only ones that seemed to really taunt me were served on various other days of the week. :/ I got the golden bacon Mac balls to start. Those baby's were hot! The bacon was thick, which gave it that perfect crunch. My fiancé got the hangover Mac. His didn't come with any bread to accompany and it was smothered in peppers on top. He said it was ok. I had the ponchovilla which was clearly the winner of the two. The chips had an awkward spice on them though that I didn't particularly care for. Overall, this place is just ok. Jus' Mac is true southern comfort food. I've never had anything from there that I didn't like, but I definitely have my favorites. The best thing to do is go here with a few people so you can all split/share a few things from the menu. I highly recommend the Pit Master (seriously, if you can only get one, this is the one), Buffalo Chicken, Chili Cheese and the Ponchovilla. The personal size is typically enough for me if I don't want to feel disgustingly full after (trust me, I've put away the regular sized ones a time or two). Typically if I go with one other person, splitting three of the personal sized ones is the perfect amount. They have a selection of booze and it's all mostly local. Probably the only down sides to this place are that its a bit small and the parking lot is tiny. Definitely not a place to bring a big group, but it's a great "to go" option if you call ahead. The reviews for this place are a little crazy! People, if you don't LOVE mac and cheese, why would you go to a place that's called Jus' Mac?? Anyway I am a lover of mac 'n' cheese and I belong here. It's not an extremely foodie version of mac 'n' cheese or anything but it is priced well and it's good, solid comfort food. I was full, I'm not sure who wants to completely gorge themselves on mac 'n' cheese... the portion was really reasonable. It's definitely better than the stuff out of the box. I had the cheeseburger which was good and my better half had... something else which he inhaled. Good beer selection but I had a tea just to balance things out a little bit. I would probably go back here more often but it's kind of on the other side of town for me. I would love to foodie it up a little bit... there are good foodie meat options but it would be cool to see swiss/gruyere/apple mac, or something like that. read more
