THE BEST PLACE EVER. This location tends to have better food quality than the Montrose location. I also enjoy the vibe of this location better as well, due to the small and homey nature of its Houston Heights location. The food can't be beat! Finally, I think it goes without saying, don't go here if you are looking to stay on a diet. Food: Pros: Delicious and lots of Vegetarian options. Con: Might cause a heart attack. I mean it is a whole menu of cheese and carbs. I got the BIG BLUE, which is blue cheese sauce covered in blue cheese crumbles and mozzarella. So good! Everyone at my table said they were apprehensive of trying blue cheese and ended up coming in for second bites. I also tried the RUSTIC - which is fresh tomatoes basil leaves and garlic, It seems like it would be healthy, but don't be fooled - it's still macaroni, i barely tasted tomatoes - I didn't think it was very good. When my brother told me about a place that just serves macaroni and cheese, I was a little skeptical at first, but by the end of the meal I had become a fan. When you first walk in, you find the place nicely decked out. In what seems like an older neighborhood, Jus' Mac did a really good job building the place. Parking is in the back, so when you walk in, you walk in through the back. You can walk in though the front (which actually faces the street) if you want. I know that's weird, but it's just not intuitive to go in through the front door for this place. Jus' Mac is really creative with their mac and cheese menu offering a wide variety of mac and cheese. You can get anything form blue cheese to brisket. Personally I had the regular one to test things out. And it was awesome. I will say that the food is heavy though. I gave this restaurant a low rating because of how ridiculously expensive it is for macaroni and cheese. I ordered the Cheese and Chong which includes chicken mushrooms and pesto. When I pay $11 for Macaroni and cheese I expect more than just macaroni and cheese and a tiny bit of mushroom and chicken. They charge about $2.50 for maybe 2 ounces, maybe less of chicken. Beyond just the chicken I was incredibly disappointed at the other ingredient I did not mention earlier - the onion strings on top. They were Frenches out of a can. Holy Moley!!! Mac & Cheese is one of my favorite dishes and when I head of Jus' Mac. I had to try it! I wasn't sure how many ways someone could possibly do mac & cheese but they have a big menu! Yum Yum Yum! We tried the fried Mac balls- they were awesome! I had the Taco Mexi, my friend had the Quatro and my fiancé had the Homerun. We tried each other's dishes- I thought the Taco Mexi was the best but they all were so good! I know it's just mac & cheese but they really know how to change it up and make each dish unique. At first, when I we walked in, I noticed how they served it was pretty cool (little cast iron skillets) but it didn't look like very much food. Boy, was I wrong! When we got our food and started chowing down- I couldn't finish it! I didn't make it to 3/4 and had to box it up. I found heaven at Jus' Mac. It's definitely a place for Mac & Cheese lovers! Jus' Mac is pretty awesome considering it is jus' Mac. However, the crazy concoctions they have dreamt up here make this place very tasty indeed. I think the originality of the idea is unlike most restaurants and the cheesy goodness that they deliver hits the spot. The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is hard to get in out with the small parking lot and what have you. Words of wisdom: if you think you are really hungry still only go with the personal sized portion. The amount of food that will come out will not look like much but it is a feast, I promise you. I bounce between 4- and 5-stars here, and I think the only reason is the price. There's no question that the food is fantastic and that it fills a really cool niche. When a friend came in from out of town and asked to go to a "Heights" place, Jus Mac was the first place I thought of ... Nothing you can really get the same way anywhere around town, and it has a very casual "Heights" vibe when it's not too busy. If you live close, I definitely recommend calling in your order for pick up. The line can be painfully long at peak times, and since the dishes take a while to cook, it's best to get your order in early and wait in line while it's already cooking (or done). Ah, but back to the price ... Each dish is enough for two moderately hungry people to share, so that makes the cost pretty reasonable. I enjoyed the Quattro which was full of cheesy goodness and my friend enjoy the Chik Chik. After some reflection and comparing my findings with other reviews, I have finally decided to match Jus' Mac with a 3.5. It's a brilliant concept, yes. Mac & cheese - so familiar, so comforting, so loveable. It's something we've all grown up with and something we just can't seem to grow out of. But now we're adults...and with our developed palate and abstract thinking, I can see how this childhood dish can become a little...two-dimensional. Well, here comes Jus' Mac to the rescue, taking this traditional side-dish and making it all sorts of amazing and brand new again. Let's get the bad stuff out of the way before I lose your attention. First off, parking and location. This tiny restaurant is extremely easy to miss. It's hidden in between bigger buildings on Yale St., no street sign...by the time you see "Jus' Mac" on the side of that small brown house, you're already passing it up. Wasn't a fan of the parking lot either. Like my friend Melanie L. mentioned, the ground is rough, low, and will probably scrape the bottom of your car, so take care. After you get over that obstacle, to add to your frustration, you realize the lot is ridiculously small. You might have to circle in and out of the lot (scraping the bottom your car each time!) until finally settling for parking across the street. So yeah. That sucks. Now for the good stuff. The restaurant has a "dive" feel to it - dim lighting, wooden booths, tables, and bars. I thought it was fitting for a place that serves up mac & cheese with a devilishly good twist. The place is pretty small, and it looks even smaller when you have a line of people waiting to order going through the middle of the restaurant. Service was great at the register, but the food-dropper-off'ers could've been a little nicer. Not even a "Hi! [insert order here]? Here ya go! Enjoy!", just a simple, brisk, "Here." Anyway, my good friend Lisa D. could not stop gushing about the Buffalo Chicken mac & cheese, so we both ended up going with that. *I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS!* The moment the dish hits the table, that tangy, spicy buffalo sauce smell flutters up to your nose like a butterfly and kicks you in the face like a bee. Presentation is nothing special (come on, it's mac & cheese), but it's neat how it comes in your own personal-sized skillet. Taste was good - not too gooey, but enough that you get that attractive stretching-cheese-effect when you dig in. Another positive, yet weird observation: I'm digging the paintings they hung up in the bathroom! If anything, this place deserves to be visited at least once. The sauces added a lot to the dish and they were very good. I then ordered the pit boss mac and cheese and the buffalo one chicken. I really liked the pit boss (BBQ), but as others have said it is a large large portion. I felt like I had a couple bites and I was full. Good thing it taste just as good reheated! The buffalo chicken one was very good too. I preferred the pit boss, but I am also excited to try the taco one. They were also selling cupcakes when I was there and had a few specialty flavors as well. This place is kind of in a weird location. It was hard to find at first. They do have a parking lot though. This was my second time here, but I am still so impressed with this operation. It's so simple, yet effective. Small place and parking lot, so it is always filled. We had to park across the street for lunch on a Saturday. The line was about 10 people long, so we sent one in our party to get a table for 4. We got 4 regular sized macs and they were all very tasty. I got the Rustic, which is vegetarian but made up for the flavor with the strong basil. Now, the first time I ever came here, I ordered to-go. Dining in is significantly better! I think it's because they bake it in this little iron skillet when you eat in, whereas they put it in this foil to-go tray when you take it with you. Since it keeps warm in the skillet while we dig in, it keeps the mac and cheese gooey-er. The others are the table were the Hangover, Cheese and Chong, and Buffalo Chicken. Each one came with a slice of bread on top. The Cheese and Chong one was just a lot of cheese and chicken to me, nothing special. The Buffalo had a nice presentation with sticks of celery and carrots included. I think the favorite one I tried was the Hangover, which is sadly just a special. I hope they get good feedback and keep it on the menu because it was divine. It came with an egg on it and so the runny yolk was all over it, along with bacon and hash and peppers. It was really unique. One thing I didn't like was that when you walk to the back thinking that the restroom was there, there was just a sign that said "Hippies use the back for restroom, no exceptions," or something to that extent. Then we are not told where the bathroom is unless we ask (it turns out that it is near the front). It was an attempt at cuteness, but it isn't very cute when you really need to pee. The Texas Sheet Cake was ordered for dessert. It was just like chocolate cake with nuts on top and icing too sweet. I've heard fantastic things about this place, however my experience did not live up to my friends' rave reviews. I ordered the quattro mac-n-cheese, personal size, and it came with a slice of bread. A very small slice, but fitting for the size of the dish I ordered. The issue I had with the food was that it was room temperature/cold. It comes in a skillet, which I thought was used when cooking the dish, but I guess not. My fiancé opted for the chili cheese choice, which was topped with Fritos, and his was good! The parking lot is kinda small. You can easily drive past this place without realizing you missed the turn into the parking lot, so be on the lookout! I'll try their food again, but I'm definitely not dying to come back here any time soon. read more

The reastaurant was incredibly clean and pleasing to the eye, as well as the menu. both me and my friend bought the brisket mac n cheese which sounded good but.. It fell short of my expectations. Why? I was hoping for smoky pieces of brisket smother in hot creamy mac n cheese what I got was more like tasteless "Lubys" like mac. the bbq sauce that was applyed on top was too sugary to say the least. I would have preferred a more bold perhaps homemade sauce. I think I will make the visit again just to see perhaps there was a hiccup in the kitchen that evening. These are my own observations. I have to say we were sadly not impressed. We read the reviews prior to going and I'd have to agree with some; you either love it or hate it. There were three of us that were dying to try it and three of us that left less than impressed. First off the parking was terrible!! If you have a large vehicle, good luck getting in/out. The portions are large so unless you plan on splitting a meal, stick with the personal size. I think they prices were way too high as well. Was not worth it at all in my opinion. The fried mac balls weren't anything spectacular either. I had the quattro cheese and my husband had the Taco Mexi. Many people complain that it's too expensive, but the reg portion is enough for 2 meals. And now that they offer the smaller portion, it's very affordable & its much easier to avoid over eating. Man, I am a HUGE mac and cheese fan. Who isn't? I think I lived off the stuff my sophmore year of college. So how excited was I to hear that someone created a restaurant devoted to macaroni and cheese. Jus' Mac did not disappoint. I enjoyed the brisket and sauce mixed with my "PIt Master". The helpings were more than generous - nobody in my party was able to finish (but we enjoyed out leftovers later on that day). I ordered the cheeseburger mac w/ bacon and it ended up tasting like, and I mean this as a compliment, gourmet hamburger helper. I would definitely order it again. The only downsides were the price and the parking. I felt the price was a little high given the fact that the central ingredient in all of their dishes is elbow macaroni. But by far the worst thing about this place is the parking. They're on a tiny piece of property with barely enough room to enter/exit. We ended up parking across the street and down the block. I just left your location over on Yale Street here in Houston Texas. After spending nearly $50 (not including a tip) in this establishment I received an order that I was not able eat due to the unbelievable amount of species in the BBQ Sandwich one of which does not state on the menu that it's spicy. After speaking to M. Garcia the store manager I was told that I could not exchange it for something else and/or get a refund due to the pandemic. (Pandemic???) None of this made any sense to me.... I had only taken one small bite out of the sandwich...I then asked for a number to contact the owner and was told she didnt have a number....(Really?) If i have friends inviting me to return, then i will probably go because the items on the menu were appetizing. I was incredibly excited to check out Jus' Mac last Friday. The concept was super intriguing to me, so I invited an old coworker to join me for dinner. I can see that parking could be a pain, but I got there early enough that it wasn't an inconvenience. My friend and I ordered our food and a beer at the counter. My wedge salad came out about five minutes before our entrees, so I didn't have much time to enjoy it without being tempted to dig into the cheesy goodness in front of me. That being said, the salad was fresh, the dressing tasty and the bacon plentiful! But onto the bacon bliss entree I ordered topped with bread crumbs. The cheesy flavor was great, and again, the slab bacon was plentiful. Aside from that, the dish was somewhat bland. I would have preferred a little garlic flavor and/or a little kick. I know for next time to request some extra ingredients or order a dish with more components. I wasn't overwhelmed by the service. No smiles and no thank you's or have a good night. If the service had been a little warmer, I probably would go four stars. I will be back again, but I'm not in a huge hurry. read more

This place is a lot of great packed in a tight space. Me and my bf have been coming here for last few years. Always great except for my last visit. Apparently there was a new chef and there was no actual manager present. Anyway they got my order wrong not once not twice but three times. After that my boyfriend whom won't eat until we both have the our food just wanted to leave. We wanted our money back but since his food wasn't wrong they wouldnt refund his share of the meal. So we had to pack it and go find somewhere else to eat. I've worked in restaurant business all through college and when there were unhappy diners whether the fault is the business or not I would comp the meal to appease the customer and perhaps get return business. So the fact that we did not have to pay for the one incorrect meal our dinning experience was ruined through no fault of our own. We had to ask several times for a solution and all we got is "I'm sorry we have a new cook". .. ", I told him ...". " I need to call my manager.. ". " do wanna take the wrong one home?? We're gonna throw it away..". "Oops. Never mind we all ready did.." Really??? What a fiascos. People pay for not just the food but an entire dining experience. That's the point of sitting down, enjoying the atmosphere and SERVICE. I was excited to go here, but many things were wrong with this place...parking sucks, tiny place - very crowded, the drink station,etc is placed where the line gets in the way, there wasn't ice when we were there either, the menu wasn't as great as I thought it would be and neither was the food. The food was okay, but I figured if they are going to do just mac n cheese in different ways that they they would be really good at it because it's what they specialize in...well no, it wasn't anything amazing or even that great. We had to sit outside because it was so crowded and then the food got cold very quick. It was also a little pricey for what you get and we left still hungry. So overall, I think this place is overrated. I wish we had a better experience, but we didn't. Added to explain a bit more: I would say being crowded is a problem when the line is long and the place is very small and people in line are in the way of others moving about the restaurant, the tables are so close, and you may not have a seat when it's crowded because the place is so small. If this was a a rating of the food, I'd give it a five. If this was a rating of the service, I'd give it a one. Of course it's great food. Like Ramen, it's one of those foods that when you think about what you grew up with, this is SO much more expensive than what you're used to...go figure. But it's prime ingredients that make the difference. But because this is a rating of the overall experience which factors in both aspects, I have to provide an averaged rating. Between the lack of acknowledgement when I walked in, the needing to repeat myself 3 times when ordering a simple order, the overcharge for what the shift lead called an "up-charge" (which just like calling beef beef and not cow, it isn't good to be called as what it really is to a customer), the lack of attention giving to each guest, and the rushing of guests out (including observing guests who showed up at 9:45 and were served in takeout dishes without their request...if you're gonna charge $10+ for a bowl of mac, don't be pulling crap like that). The one redeeming factor I did get when I was having trouble connecting to the Internet, I had a server who gave me continual assistance until I was able to connect.
