I have been in the poke mood lately. No complaints about the food. Fresh and clean restaurant to get your raw and healthy poke from. Lots of seating inside to eat in restaurant. Loved their Hawaiian ahi tuna and salmon protein options. Bonus points that they have musubi rolls!!! I didn't end up ordering one, but I want to try one next time I go. Ate here for dinner last night. Everything was fresh, the spicy tuna was actually spicy which was a pleasant surprise. Looks like all the seafood is hand cut. Nice big portions. There are lots of toppings to choose from. Each item has its own scoop or spoon. HOWEVER we did have an issue with the mixing. They take the poke and the greens and mix them together using previously used spatulas that have only been soaking in ice water. My husband has a severe scallop allergy and wasn't paying attention to this until midway thru his meal when he noticed a staff person reusing a spatula, his mistake. I then asked if they used fresh ones and they said no, after using one to mix, they just put it back with other spatulas in cold ice water. Hmmmmm...cross contamination? Clean, fresh spatulas are a must! Lucky, no trip to the hospital was necessary. The restaurant itself is clean and simple. The staff was nice and attentive. read more

Today is my second visit to Just Poke and I gotta say, I'm hooked! Offering super fresh options, many MANY sides and sauces to choose from, and a fixed price menu so there's no guessing involved this place really hits it out of the park for a fresh, nutritious Downtown Bham lunch option. The setup is sorta like a Subway, except instead of a sandwich you get to choose your ingredients to fill a nice, big bowl with poke goodness. You choose a base (I love just plain ol' sushi rice), then your toppings - everything from sweet potatoes to spicy tuna. Or, if you don't want to design your own bowl (hello decision fatigue) they have several pre-designed bowls you can choose from. My fave is the Dynamite Bowl 'cuz, hey, I love spicy. The setup is comfy and casual. I love that they have window counter seating (and plenty of outlets) so I can get some work done while I'm nomming on my poke. Used to love this place, the first year or so. But it's lost quality and quantity. The rice is not premium sushi rice anymore. They've cut serving size and the bowls are as full as before. They are often out of things as simple as cucumber and furikake. Staff used to be consistent and friendly. Now they appear miserable and turnover frequently. Perhaps the chain expanded too fast. Tried this place out today after seeing it on a co worker's post to social media. I was so excited to see a poke place open with all the different toppings and sauces I'd become accustomed to. Portion were a good size and you can ask for extra sauce/toppings. Service was alright, and was slowed down because some of the toppings and poke were running low or out. I'm sure this will be ironed out as they adjust, but I thought this was a problem especially as there were 5 other people behind me and they were out if onions. One unique thing about this place is that you choose your fish, then they mix in some other stuff along with the sauce you choose before adding it to the rice. They also have spicy crab salad, pineapple and watermelon radish, which I haven't seen too much at poke places. I'll probably update my review as I know I'll be back. I created my own bowl and ate every bite. It was delicious and fresh. Very flavorful toppings and sauces. It is set up like any buildable meal or build-a-bowl restaurant, you walk up and they build it right in front of you. Well kept and clean. I love the compostable bowls and quick to go set up. They had icecream filled macarons for dessert which were perfect for a to go order! Would have given a 5 if I would have gotten to experience more of a staff/sit in environment, call in ordering doesn't give me the best idea of their process and customer service. Poke will always have a special place in my big food-loving heart. After a couple weeks staying at a close friend's home in Oahu, any time I have a chance to dine on this delicious Hawaiian dish, it instantly brings me back to paradise. First impression of Just Poke: this place has some real curb appeal. A large circular window invites you inside to a smartly designed space. Due to covid, pick up or takeout only and no outdoor seating was available. Poke is a traditional Hawaiian cuisine of diced raw fish often tossed in dressing, with toppings like avocado or seaweed on top of a base layer of rice. Similar to many fast casual restaurants, you could build your own bowl or choose from their signature bowls. The torched mentaiko salmon bowls had a generous helping of salmon, and while the heat of the spicy aioli was a bit too spicy for my taste, the bowl was warm and filling. Torched salmon is always my go-to when I can get it and this one had that toasty sear I'm always craving. We also ordered an eel spam musubi to split. If you haven't had spam before, I would HIGHLY recommend giving one this tasty snack a try! Pro tip: They had warm musubi prepared at the counter, but you can ask them to make you one fresh: add shrimp tempura, tamago or my personal favorite, eel. They're perfectly warm and salty and I only wish we'd ordered one more. For anyone that's never had poke, Just Poke would be a solid start. read more

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...... This is the Subway of Poke. That isn't a bad thing. You can pick from several types of protein, and cost per bowl is based on how many scoops of fish/tofu you get. $12 gets you three, which was honestly more than I thought it looked like/was going to be. The toppings are all mostly free, and you can add everything from wakame to toasted garlic to edamame. Like the weirdo I am, I asked for double masago, and they were happy to oblige. You can also pick your sauce, which makes or breaks your dish. The sauce I picked could have been better, but that's on me. The rice was a liiiiiittle hard, but it was still edible. The tuna and salmon were seasoned well otherwise, and it's far less expensive than other places in the area. The staff seemed a little bored, but then again it's Bham and they were college kids - this is both a negative and a positive, because that means they were bored, but very liberal with samples and toppings! Overall, I enjoyed the meal and it was quite filling...Worth it! read more

I can't begin to tell you how much I love this place. I've been eating here on a very regular basis since they opened up in Bellingham, and I'm consistently pleased with my food and service. To echo other reviews, it's the Subway of sushi. I also describe it to friends as like a burrito bowl, but for sushi. Pretty much every person I've brought here has gotten addicted. I always make my own bowl, and at this point I have a pretty routine order, but I love that I can always mix something up if I want to change the flavor profile. The sauces I usually get are the spicy aioli and wasabi shoyu, but I've tried most of them and they're all really good. The large bowl is always more than enough food and sometimes I wish I could save some for leftovers (but poke is definitely best fresh). Though most of the employees have cycled through, service is always fast and usually very friendly too. I've never had to wait long even with a massive line. It's worth it! read more

At first we thought the service wasn't great (the menu isn't complete yet and they have some steps mixed up on the menu) but after a minute it was fine. The person working won us over with her personality and it made us calm down and just enjoy things. We ended up having a great date! I love this style of poke. I call it "subway style" where you just say what you want and you go down a line picking options. No weighing is involved, the weighing thing always throws me off idk why!! And it was really good. They have some fresh seasonal veggies and it makes it really delicious. I loved the pineapple and watermelon radish mixed with the spicy scallop. The decor is totally cute and Bellingham. The succulents aren't real but. Oh well what can you do. Over all I would say go here in a month. It's still super new and I don't think they quite have their footing. After driving by this place a few times, I finally made the decision to stop by for lunch. They are not offering inside seating at this time, but they make your food right up at the counter and have a safe routine for to-go orders. You first decide what side, base and actual fish/seafood toppings you want, which they place into a separate mixing bowl and make sure it is throughly saturated in what ever sauces you choose. I got their Ahi Tuna and Spicy Ahi. You then go down the buffet choosing (pointing only, they do the serving) toppings to round out your order. They offer such things as edamame, seaweed salad, imitation crab and so on. Ordering was a fun experience and they were patient with my order panic and indecision. The food was good, it was saucy enough and had a lot of elements to the bowl. In all honesty the Ahi could have had more flavor, I was hoping for some real spice, but I was able to throw some spice on at home so it worked out! read more
