I came here to get my son fitted for a snowboard and boots. It was a super busy day because it was right before a weekend with a snowstorm, but everyone was super nice, professional and helpful. The rates for renting equipment for skiing or snowboarding are reasonable and definitely more economic than renting at the slopes. It was easy to create a profile get questions answered and browse the shop. I'm super lucky that I live nearby, but I overheard that folks drove 45 minutes to an hour to get here because of how great the staff and selection are. read more

brought in two sets of skis in for wax and sharpening, waited at ski shop desk for ten minutes, several staff members walks by without acknowledging me, eventually a staff member who's been behind the desk the whole time gives me a dirty look and tells me to wait in the ski and boot rental line. Been going there for years, that's a new one, line was endless as the rental process is slow. The sales person takes more information than a car loan, says they want $99 to wax and sharpen one set of skis, the "free lifetime wax" on the other set I bought at sun$ski is a $20 discount, so $79, hardly free. Would have been cheaper last week in park city. I left and took the skis to REI, $40 and no hassle, much nicer ski techs. read more

Pretty straightforward place. This ski shop is one of the few in MD. It's located at the end of a strip mall and pretty unassuming. I got fitted and bought my ski boots here. I also had them attach my bindings to my new skis. It took a little less than a week before I could pick them up. I also brought in my husband's skis to get waxed. Prices are reasonable. The guys helping me were friendly and gave some useful advice on what equipment to get given the type of terrain I'd be on. read more

I give the service a 5 but wait time for just picking up skis is ridiculous. There should be a separate line for ski pick ups which have been already paid for. It should not be same line as the one for ski fittings. I already waited 2 hours a couple weeks for ski fittings and then I have to wait again for a simple ski pick up. What is frustrating is that I suggested they handle this differently. It's not hard but they rejected my suggestion so I have to lower my rating which otherwise would be a 5. read more

They have long wait times to get service or assistance with buying equipment. So I called to inquire about how long the line was. An older lady picked up and said there was no line and I should come over. After arriving in 15 minutes, I discovered a line of 10+ people which means 1-2 hours wait time. I cannot believe the lady lied! We had to leave. What a time waste. read more

I bought my skis and boots there about five years ago. They have been great equipment and I was extremely happy with the fitting. After skiing a week one of the buckles on my boot came loose. I went into Sun and Ski in Gaithersburg, MD. They replaced the buckle while I watched and did not charge me for the service! I apprecaite their willingness to repair the boot in a super fast manner, and then not even charge for it! read more

You all are the best. I recently came in to get new snowboarding boots after having some issues with rentals. Turns out, thanks to Sean's help, that I was way off in the size I thought I needed. I called looking for swim/surf pants with sun protection. Guy who watches too much Fast Times at Ridgemont High answered the phone so I asked. "Uh, no I don't think so." So I asked, you don't think so? "Uh, nooo from what you are describing I don't think so." 2 minutes of my life wasted. I can never get that back so 1 star. I realize the place might be great for something, but it isn't a mega superstore so figuring out if you have something shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps ask a question or just say "no." Their return policy used to be much better. You could return items up to a year after purchase. Now they sell overpriced subpar products and won't accept returns while saying "item is used". I'm going to take my business to Amazon or even REI - they never seem to have a problem with used items. read more

Man! Came into this store today. I have been snowboarding since i was five, oh my! No way! I'm black and I've been snowboarding for 25 years! But apparently the racist lady couldn't imagine. I wanted to look at new stuff (snowboarding weekend coming up). Lady came up to me, asked me if I need help, I told her no.. I wanted to look, because I know what I'm looking at. She followed me all around the store. Then again she comes over, ma'am if you need help you can stand in line, DIDN'T I SAY I DON'T NEED HELP! then continues to pretend to look at things on the shelf around me. Bought some snow pants. Ended up going to return them due to damages I did not know of upon purchase ! Tried to return them today. Cashier immediately said " sorry can't take this return due to damages" however I told him that it was never worn and just wanted to return. After I asked if I can speak with the manager and I asked for a return again. However, he rudely say that I can't return them. This person/ store manager did not assume positive intent with me. I usually do not take the time to write a review... but after Reading some of the reviews I was wary about going. But honestly I must say that these reviews must've been a A fluke on an off day. I'm a very difficult customer to deal with..... it's what my family tells me, but honestly their patience and warmth was very much appreciated. Under these unprecedented times Sun and ski staff was very accommodating. It's small but a mighty store. Nothing was good about this place. Location is terrible. Forever from 270 and back. Some shady folks hanging out in the parking lot. Terrible service, no one available, nothing fit, no price points for kids, or beginners (kids). A kid's ski jacket for $650. Do better. I am from the Rockies and a pro skier/bunny. Great local shop that has quite a decent selection of ski and snowboard equipment (during the winter months). If they don't have something in the correct size, they offer to check on-line with their other stores. My brothers and I went in to get fitted for ski boots and pick up some gear. Jake was excellent and spent a lot of time helping us out with the fitting of the boot. He actually found last year's model for me that was deeply discounted. They also will heat mold the inserts to your feet. My one complaint. They say that getting your bindings done there is $25 if you buy the gear in store. When I came back with all of my gear they charged me the full $75, even though the last time I had been there I spent over $500 on the boots and gear. Yet when my brother went in they waved the whole fee. So I think it really depends on who helps you. read more

I went here with my son to rent skis for the weekend only to find out they don't rent skis for small kids (under 5). And it took an hour of waiting for someone to let us know that important detail, after I told them I was there to rent gear for my son when we arrived. I was not pleased. read more

Brought my snowboard here for some tuning. Seemed very knowledgeable and helpful. Great selection for skiers and snowboarders alike. TIP: They do rentals here. And it's much cheaper to rent from there than at the resort. Since you're going up 270 anyways, reserve a rental ahead of time, pick it up and save yourself some money. read more

Service from the shop guys is top notch. They did a same day turn around for me on a last minute tune-up (including sharpening and hot hand wax) when i told them i was going to Vail and didn't want to have it done out there, and most recently, talked me out of buying new boots and instead showed me how to get rid of heel lift with some simple foam lifts, which they installed for me free of charge. Those guys love boarding and skiing and that really sets this place apart. Floor service for clothing, etc can be so-so. read more

I'm sort of disappointed in this store. For the size of this location I was expecting a lot more. Lots of the racks (facemasks, gloves, etc) were sparse. Its only january and it appeared that the store was running low on a lot of inventory. The rental guy was really helpful, and quick. I think we got the boy fitted for skis and boots in less than 20 minutes. $35/day for the rental. Fantastic. Its precarious to get to via 270, you have to exit, then back track, and ... yea. Thank G-d its next to a filipino restaurant, hehe. read more

A+ for the awesome service! I'm somewhat new to skiing, so I came in to get some advice about skis and then came back another time to get fitted for boots. Both the guys I talked to were very knowledgeable and friendly and were more than happy to explain all sorts of stuff to me about skis. Probably way more than I need to know to get my first pair, but very interesting and also you can tell they're very passionate about what they do. I went in wanting to look at some stuff but not make a decision that same day, and I was worried the sales people would be annoyed that I wasn't going to make the purchase right then and there, but in fact the first guy I talked to really encouraged me NOT to buy anything that day because it's a big purchase and I should take the time to research before I decide. I really appreciated them not trying to just push me into the most expensive stuff. Seeing as I'm not an expert skiier (yet) I can't really speak to the selection of skis, but they seemed to have lots of options in most of the brands I'm familiar with. The prices also seemed competitive with what I'd seen advertised online. I'll definitely be coming back here for my future skiing purchases. This Ski Chalet is about as North as you will find one, most of them being in the immediate Washington area to the West or South. It is almost on the way to and from my new home hear Philly, so I decided to come here to get my skis done for the after-season. The place is nice, clean and efficient, and they do have lifetime wax for the Ski Chalet purchases. And yes, their rentals beat any others at the resorts and you can use the rental to offset purchases. I like them. read more

This review is specifically for the handling of covid. Overall, terrible job. Looking online they claimed they had curbside pickup which was great. I then reserved a pair of skies online which for some reason I couldn't pay for. I called the store to see why that was and if I could pay over the phone but they said I had to walk inside, pay inside, and pick up my skis inside. What part of that is curbside pickup? False advertising. I even told them I felt a little sick and I didn't want to go in but they didn't care, they said I had to go in. When I walked in, the store was small and crowded. As I waited behind the cash register an employee sneezed with their mask just under their nose. I felt very, very uncomfortable in there. Skis were great but I don't ever want to go back for the remaining time of covid. read more
