The things I like most about Tay's include: the fries, sriracha ketchup, a fun car for kids meals, and of course the burger with all of the available toppings to choose from. I ordered a single with fries. My wife and I decided that we'll probably share next time. We might even get the slider with fries. My son loved the car his burger was served in. The ladies working were so friendly and worked quickly through the long line to get orders placed. We didn't have any issues finding a table to sit. They have plenty of high chairs and booster seats for kids too.

So the food... that's why we really came here. So many people hyped Tay's Burger Shack up that I think it made me set my expectations really high. I tried the Single Cheeseburger with fries, I will say that I didn't find it very special. My least favorite part was the buns, they didn't seem like they were toasted at all. Just your typical old cheeseburger. The fries were not my favorite. It does make a cute date night and maybe late night snack.

Seems to be mostly workers from the industrial park, which we didn't know but we still loved our food. It was a happy accident! Fries were like five guys. Sandwich was small and bread was soft. Not small as a complaint, small so I didn't feel like such a pig afterwards. Prices are right and food came out fast.

So I jumped in my car and drove to West Bottoms, a less than desireable, industrial area. There, I found a little corner store. I go in and walk up to the counter and say, "I hear I can get the best cheesesteak in KC here." The gentleman shakes his head and takes my order. Cheesesteak, add lettuce and tomato. Ten minutes later, I'm walking out with the daily special that included my sandwich, fries and a nice strong Orange Crush from the fountain. I am starving, so I rip open the bag, determined to devour it right there on the side of the street. The first sign of disappointment was the size. Maybe 6" but no more. Maybe I'm used to the footlong portions of Atlanta, but this was leaving a lot to be desired. I forgive it because maybe this is the size for the special. (Shrug) I take my first bite and get a mouthful of well-seasoned meat. But where is the cheese? I try another bite, thinking that maybe the end just was missing it. Nope, still no evidence of cheese. It takes me until midway through the sandwich before I reach the gooey cheese that makes a cheesesteak great. As I was eating my sandwich, I grab a few fries. Eh. Hand cut, which is good, but they have a slightly rancid burnt flavor. Like the grease has seen one too many days. And the lack of salt just elevated the off-flavor. I quickly abandon them and get back to the sandwich. I look down, but there is hardly anything left. Three bites and I am at the end...minus cheese. I'm left with bread ends, a few pieces of meat and a ton of lettuce and tomato. Sigh. Overall, I give the sandwich a 6/10. The meat was flavorful, but the size and the lack of cheese left me wanting more. The fries...let's not even rate them in this review or we will definitely be doing less than 3 stars. The redeemer? That crisp, delicious Orange Crush. Thank you God for soda...or as Midwesterners say, pop. (lol) Would I go back? Maybe. I would see if there is a 12" version and I would ask for EXTRA cheese and emphasize that I would love it to be spread across the whole sandwich. And I would skip the fries. Trust me, skip the fries.

The service continues to be inconsistent at best--no patio service, long waits, and a general lack of attentiveness--but what's most frustrating is the latest beverage and menu decision. You can no longer order a single glass of wine. Instead, guests are now forced into purchasing a half bottle as the minimum entry point--starting around $25--for a very limited and underwhelming selection (Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc... and that's about it). No Pinot Grigio, no variety, no flexibility. Just a forced upsell on mediocre wine in a casual, outdoor setting. Let's be clear: You can order a single beer. You can order a single cocktail. But you cannot order a single glass of wine. In 2026, that's not just outdated--it's completely out of touch. This approach eliminates choice, discourages responsible and casual consumption, and frankly alienates a large portion of your customer base. What if someone wants just one glass? What if they want to try two different wines? That experience is gone. And the reasoning doesn't hold up. If this is about waste or throughput, there are countless modern solutions--by-the-glass preservation systems, or even high-quality boxed options like Black Box Wines that maintain freshness without forcing customers into higher spend. This feels less like a thoughtful strategy and more like a blunt, revenue-driven decision that ignores the guest experience entirely. So here's the question for leadership: Who is making these menu and beverage decisions--and how does this align with the kind of experience you claim to offer? Because from a guest perspective, this isn't hospitality. It's restriction. I'd genuinely like to hear a response from the team on this. Until then, this is a complete veto for me.
