The ribs are where it's at. Tried both the regular and buffalo, both awesome. The brisket is thinly sliced, so it was a little awkward eating with a fork. Because it was sliced so thin, it missed missed the mark on a good bbq brisket flavor. The cheesy corn had a strong fresh corn flavor, I didn't taste the cheese. The jalapeno corn bread is good. Tried both the regular and spicy BBQ sauce, both good. ThIs is great BBQ for the price. Also lots of seating, a bar, football and darts. $2 beers!

In town for work so planning to try multiple KC bbq spots and this was the first, overall pretty solid but not the best bbq I've had. Wings were an 8/10 . Good size and fall off the bone so no complaints but not as good as other smoked wings I've had. Ribs were a bit underwhelming 7/10, mainly because that was supposed to be what they are known for and there was a whole diners drive in's and dives episode about them. They weren't very meaty which I think was a notable part of the issue. Overall it was solid and not bad, but I had higher expectations

I've been to Woodyard before but it was like late 2019. So a long ass time ago. And I don't honestly remember my experience. I heard that they recently changed ownership so I decided to give it another shot. I ordered online. I wish the website had an actual menu instead of just taking you to online ordering. The online ordering doesn't give a description of the menu items so if you're not familiar with the menu, it's a bit confusing. Thanks to Yelp and those that have taken pics of the menu for the help on that one. I went to the counter past the pick up time and no one was there. A couple of other people were waiting on orders. It took a minute for someone to help me. And then another several to get my food. The order was accurate. I wish they would have given me bbq sauce. They did have a station near the pickup window but I assumed they just give you sauce with a to go order and the person at the counter didn't say anything. And I didn't stop to get my own. So just fyi: get your own sauce. I ordered a combo sandwich with brisket and sausage. For some reason my brisket was sliced and chopped. It was ok. It was honestly kinda dry. The sausage was sliced up link style and was also ok. It had good flavor but was just dry. Sauce probably would've helped. I also ordered a rib to try. It was super dry. Based on that, I'd avoid the ribs. I tried several sides and wasn't impressed by any. I'm picky on bbq beans with Jack stacks being my favorite. The beans had alot of chili powder in the sauce. I'd personally skip them. The cheesy corn was again being compared to my favorite Jack stack and it just fell short. It was fine but it was missing flavor. The Mac and cheese was dry. No flavor. The corn muffin was a corn muffin. Pretty standard. My favorite side was probably the fries. They are shoestring so I recommend you eat them right away because they're downhill once they get cold. Not my favorite kind to take to go for that reason. Overall, I'd compare Woodyard to Wyandotte or Rosedale BBQ. Not fancy. Not the best bbq in the city. But affordable and tasty enough. I do want to go back but I'll definitely order different things.

This review is for a carry out lunch in mid-February. service: You order at the counter or cash register. The counter is inside the original house, just across the brick patio. Everyone is knowledgeable and helpful. bar: Great selection of beers. High marks for offering my favorite, Boulevard's Dry Stout. food: Today I had burnt end chili (single for $7 as of 02/2026) and a one meat BBQ platter with brisket sandwich and fries ($14 as of 02/2026). Sandwich is served without sauce, so you can add what you want. Woodyard remains simply amazing BBQ, even by Kansas City's high standards. Over the years we've had most of the menu and everything is excellent. details: The dining rooms are across the walkway from the house where you order. A few parking spots in front, but plenty more in the woodyard in back. Easy access from Lamar exit on I-35 or Merriam Lane exit on I-635. Woodyard has catered for us in the past and they do an exceptional job.

We visited Woodyard BBQ on Saturday afternoon after watching Guy F's DDD show on Youtube. He listed 5 top BBQ in KC and Woodyard was on that list. We ordered the $20 slab of ribs and a two item plate (Burnt Ends and Brisket) side of BBQ beans. The ribs were solid with a nice smoke flavor and served dry. The brisket was shaved very thin, like for a sandwich, which made it tender to eat. The burnt end, were a complete miss. The ends were dry and soaked in BBQ sauce as if this would help rehydrate or mask the dryness. Burt ends is what way came for and they disappointed. The baked beans are OK but somewhat "gummy" in texture.

Went and got the three meat platter with the burnt ends, wings, and ribs. Everything was delicious especially the baked beans.

Amazing food . Went and got the three meat platter with the burnt ends, wings, and ribs. Everything was delicious especially the baked beans. Lovely patio area in the front of the restaurant and also the back with a really nice ambiance especially on a sunny day.

While the staff was incredibly kind and the space was a bit unique with it's old barn/cabin feel, there wasn't much to enjoy about the actual food at this hidden spot near I-35 and Metcalf. To get a feel for the BBQ at Woodyard, we sampled several meats including brisket, sausage, burnt-ends, and several sides. If Woodyard was in a small town a hundred miles from Kansas City, it's quite possible that it could be considered a decent spot for smoked meats. But for a restaurant located in one of the few BBQ towns in America, it fails to deliver at the same level of smoked flavor that BBQ fans in Kansas City are accustomed to experiencing. But it wasn't all bad, Woodyard makes a delicious jalapeno cheddar muffin. My personal recommendation would be to pick up a dozen of those fantastic muffins as a side dish to BBQ that you get somewhere else. I love the ambiance and homey feel of this restaurant! As soon as we walked in, Mario welcomed us with the most friendly service and he was incredibly helpful. We ordered a variety of food and it all came out very fast and was really tasty. We basically had the entire inside to ourselves, which was nice because our kids could play the games without bothering anyone. I do wish they had more drink selections, because it was just canned soda, water and tea, but otherwise we had a really good lunch and I'd love to come back when it's a nice day to sit on the patio out back!

Whenever I travel I'm always on the lookout for great local places that really seem to rep the culinary trends that the locals love. This place is a wonderful look into the history of BBQ in the area. Their brisket and sausage were just so yummy. There's an outdoor patio area that's perfect for enjoying good weather and also great if you're traveling with your pets or your kids need a more casual space while they eat. The servers are really helpful in guiding you on what's available that day. Get there early before things sell out.

This is a decent choice for some barbecue. Nothing fancy and located in an old house. We sat at a picnic table outside but there is a dining room as well. I had a Pulled Pork Sandwich with Coleslaw and Baked Beans. While the pork was nicely pulled and tender, the bun was so wet that I couldn't hold my sandwich to eat it. Eating it with a fork and knife (and having to avoid the soggy bread bottom) took away from the dining experience. I could barely taste the coleslaw - in my opinion they need to add a little extra something (salt, sugar, vinegar...) to bring out the flavor. What the coleslaw lacked in flavor is overshadowed by the positive and bubbly personality of the man who answered the phone when I called ("We really hope to see you real soon!"). He also took our order at the counter - every business should be so lucky to have an employee like him!

    Welcome.

Then I discover Chef Mitchell Fetterling is from Saison- a 2 star Michelin restaurant. The quality of food is excellent and well worth the value. Where else can I get seafood flown in daily and prepared with so much flavor and expertise? The patio was comfortable and inviting. We sat outside with our pup. Our attentive server even moved 2 umbrellas for us, so we had enough shade. We loved the fresh oysters, tuna crudo, potato beignets, seared scallops, filet mignon, salmon, pasta, brownie sundae and pineapple w/ ice cream dessert! They were all so elevated. Again the food quality and execution is exceptional. What a gem in Prairie Village! It was the perfect night out. Thank you!

The atmosphere is lively and the decor is very well done. Scratch is in our rotation of go-to restaurants in the metro for a reason. The staff, as usual, were prefect in every way. Some of the people in our group thought some of their dishes were a little bland, but I liked everything I tried. We had the okra and fried pickles for appetizers. The pickles have a very crunchy breading and a dip that was delicious! The okra is very good - especially with the dip for the pickles. We also tried the biscuits with butter and peach compote. They were great! Unique, fluffy, flavorful, and definitely worth a side order. I ordered the chicken and waffles with the peach. It was a good dish. The chicken tenders had a little bit of a spice that I didn't totally love, but they were still good. I also tried my friend's shrimp and grits, and they were delicious. The person next to me got meatloaf and brussels sprouts sprouts and really enjoyed it! He was practically licking the plate! Everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks as well. The only one I tried was the espresso martini, and it was very tasty! I would definitely go back to Tupelo Honey the next time I'm in Lenexa.
