He suggested returning the next day with his supervisor. Meanwhile, the pipe continued to leak throughout the night. The following day, I received a call from the supervisor, who reviewed the nighttime photos and concluded that the pipe was beyond repair. He quoted $4,800 for a full back-flow replacement. I declined the estimate. Instead, I hired a plumber experienced with back-flow systems. They promptly diagnosed and repaired the leak--for just $180. Buyer beware: I will never call Roto-Rooter again.

Your business model is awful, paying your technicians on commission which makes them sales people, not service people. It also makes rates unreasonable, as if I were one of your technicians, the bill rate impacts my take home pay, so there is no incentive to work on the price which is 2x the competition. This is a perfect storm for a terrible experience with a home owner who is vulnerable due to no running water.
