Went in to get my color changed from golden blonde to cool blonde. My stylist said she would only have time to do a partial highlight. When I questioned if she was sure partial highlights would be the correct way to get the outcome she had another lead stylist come to back her strategy. When she dried my hair all I could say was my hair is broken on top and my hair is still golden blonde! She said it's not broken.. I said why are you patting it down with hairspray? Of course it's broken! When the manager in training talked with me she asked what do you want us to do? I said " given the fact that my hair is still golden blonde but now broken I don't see how you can consider charging me. She said okay. I will not. I left but the following day she left me a message that her mgr said they did need to charge my card on file because a service was performed. I went to salon gaven the following day . They fixed my color with a blue gloss and cut my hair . They did say that they could see the fried hair. I am disputing the charge. Images show the picture I wanted. My wife had an appointment at John Allen Salon at Cool Springs, which was confirmed the day before. Today, we received a voicemail from the manager stating that because some stylists didn't show up, our stylist, Elvia, was reassigned to help, and therefore my wife's appointment would be shifted by 30 minutes. This short-notice change was very inconvenient, especially since my wife was already at another meeting. When I called the salon to see if there were any options, the manager stated that there were no alternatives because another customer, who was going out of town, needed assistance. When I mentioned that we are also customers and that my wife might be unable to accommodate the shift due to other commitments, I was told that they have 35 customers to take care of and that it was their decision. I was essentially told to accept it without any attempt to rectify the situation. This situation was handled very poorly by management. They failed to consider our needs as customers and provided no options to accommodate us. We really liked our stylist, Elvia, but regrettably, we can no longer go to this salon due to this experience. It's unacceptable to shift a customer's schedule at such short notice without any effort to make amends. As a result, this business has lost our entire family as customers. read more

just now NEW I had high hopes, as I used to go to Jon Alan in Capital View. The first stylist I saw messed up my hair with the way she did my highlights. I went to a second stylist who agreed with me and helped a bit but then did the same thing as the first stylist. But the worst was the manager. When I came back to get them fixed, she told me probably 5-6 that she was covering fixing my as a courtesy and not to expect it again. She then asked me to tip my stylist for the effort she put in to fixing my hair that day--fixing her own error. Mind boggling. The great thing about this area is there are a ton of stylists and salons. When a manager goes out of her way to show that money is the main focus, I'm happy to find someplace else. Only reason I'm not giving a one star is because an aesthetician reintroduced me to Smashbox and was awesome. The manager and experience, though? Terrible. Do yourself a favor and find another salon. I went in with already blonde balayage hair I just wanted a little bit more added and a little bit brighter (my first picture) stylist told me the only way to achieve that look was to do a full highlight I told her I did not want highlights on my scalp She said trust her so I did when I got out of her chair I had bright orange stripes next to my scalp! That'll be in the second picture So I called the manager got me in with the master stylist he agreed to do a balayage which is not at all what I got These will be The third set of pictures So the owner herself contacted me asked me to come back in to a different salon have somebody different take a look at it they used a Malibu treatment to get the permanent color he put on my hair, and the treatment did not work I was told there was nothing they could do for my hair! I dont know, you tell me is this ok? Now my step daughter does have the shorter side pushed behind her ear a little in this pic. When the MASTER stylist began cutting her hair I witnessed my step daughter show Hannah how she wore her hair part. I then left for awhile I came back to this hair cut. Hannah had changed her part completely and now we are left with this cut. Also I've never seen any stylist sooo pushy with products and treatments. This hair cut experience was OVER $100.00. Also the entire time my daughter was there they were whispering behind her back and even looked shocked when we walked in for this scheduled appointment. It was so odd. There was also a customer in Hannahs chair that she was beginning a color on at our appointment time. The staff here is friendly and the salon has alot of "perks" - ie wine, starbucks coffee, hand massages, neck massage, etc. I had a level 2 stylist and she did a fantastic job of giving suggestions without being pushy about what she thought I should do. I LOVE my hair color and cut and how she styled my hair (first time someone did not use a round brush, which I have never mastered using , so I have since used the same technique she did). The downside....the price. The website is not helpful in preparing you for your total cost. The stylist told me while I was in the chair what the fees were but then it was $30 more when I checked out. This was the most I have ever spent at a salon - so be prepared to spend $200+. Which again, I LOVE my hair and it is probably true that "you get what you pay for." read more

What I was not aware of immediately in the days following my visit was that my scalp was damaged. Because the color was left on my hair so long - and in globs, my scalp needed medicated shampoo and treatments to repair the damage done that day. It also took more than two months to completely remove the color from my scalp, earlobes, the skin behind my ears, and the back of my neck - it looked horrible. NINE months to healthy. I have been going to Jon Alan in Cool Springs for about two years now. I was referred to a specific Level 4 stylist there by a friend. I have always gone to AVEDA concept salons because I like the AVEDA brand and what they stand for. I sometimes just like to smell it. I will say, I only get hair cuts and I've never colored my hair. I could probably get away with a Level I or II stylist (more like $30) for what I need, but I really like the girl that I go to. Unfortunately that means I am paying WAY too much for a hair cut. That's my fault though. I've had to wait a bit, but my gal is a great colorist and sometimes she is running a bit behind with a previous client. I'm content to wait though and it's never been more than about 15 minutes. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I've never been pushed to buy anything, by my stylist or by the receptionists. The head massages are great and I sometimes take them up on their offer for free beverages. I use their online booking system (you can always book in person or over the phone) and I love it. I only schedule appointments once my hair starts getting on my nerves. I'm not an every 4-6 weeks type of gal. I highly recommend Jon Alan in Cool Springs and they are expanding so you should check them out! read more

She is very precise and thorough, and gives helpful tips on how to maintain skin care between each service. I plan on booking with her again! It's a nice salon, with nice people, that is a bit higher priced, that gives you a scalp and shoulder massage and a free drink. They're usually running late, but always apologize. The place is hip and clean and the hour that I'm there. However I can only afford to go twice a year. Lots of brentwood mom's and daughters that look like they already have their hair styled when they walk in. . I usually stand out in my Saturday comfy's and 'don't-even-think-to-sell-me-any-product' look. They offer complimentary wine/soft drinks/water which is cool. I've had 3 trips to J'on Alan Salon in the last month and a half so felt I could give a fair review. I picked this place because it was close proximity to where I work and live and it was an Aveda concept salon. I am an extremely picky person when it comes to what I like about salons and J'on Alan exceeds everyone of them: *atmosphere - Biggest pet peeve of mine is walking into a crowded and cramped salon that is very loud and busy. All I want is a nice hair cut and to relax. J'on Alan gives there stylists plenty of space in-between their work stations so I don't feel like I'm on top of other clients. *building - the interior is open, spacious and very clean. *staff - I get the same treatment every time I go there. Friendly and prompt. They always ask if I want something to drink or if I want to put on a shirt in place of my dress shirt. They also take my jacket and bring it back to me instead of me having to do it. Email reminders regarding my next appointments are great too. *stylist - When ever I go to a new place, I always start with the most affordable stylists and work my way up. My hair style is very simple to do so it has worked out for me very well. I usually go through 2-3 stylists before I settle on one but I was happy with the first one here, Erin. She only has a couple of years experience under her belt but it's good enough for me. She remembers how I like my hair and is friendly without being too friendly. She was about 5 minutes late on my 2nd appointment, which is my 2nd biggest pet peeve, but I let it slide as I was impressed with her ability. Hopefully, she will continue with being on time. This was possibly the worst hair experience I've ever had. Upon arrival you get a tour of all the services they are trying to sell you on. I was then introduced to a different stylist than the one I booked with with no explanation. Whatever, I rolled with it. The stylist, super friendly but a little confused, sat and spoke with me on expectations. I told her that when I called, the girl on the phone told me I would be charged for a hair thinning ($20) and a toning ($40). That's all I wanted, as my hair is thick and my balayage is starting to become a bit brassy. After the weirdest thinning technique I've ever seen, only thinning the bottom inch of my hair (what!?!?), the stylist continually tried to talk me into an all over color, and left the room to go mix color. I immediately returned to the front desk to explain to them that all I was wanting was a toning. They told me it wouldn't change the color of my balayage (not true) and that if I was looking for a dark color, I was looking at around $200 (I have shoulder length hair). When I told them how steep I thought that was, they proceeded to tell me that a balayage downtown Nashville runs at $400 (one, I'm in franklin, two, not true.). I left. The girls were rude, whispering to try and figure out who scheduled my appointment in the first place. After telling them I'm not paying a haircut price ($50) for a thinning, they gave me a half-off haircut price for a horrid thinning job, and continually told me misinformation about the pricing they quoted over the phone. I agree with the previous rater, this is an AVEDA salon. Why am I paying more than I would pay at a downtown salon such as Local Honey??? Which I now have an appointment and pricing quote with. Needless to say, paid more than I should for a thinning that has messed up my hair for a good while. Stay far away!!! read more

Today was my first visit to Jon Alan and I was not disappointed! I called Cool Springs location and they got me in the day of because of a cancellation. They showed me around the salon, let me test whatever Aveda products I wanted, gave me a complimentary beverage and started with a scalp massage! My stylist was great, and did exactly what I wanted. The only con was that it ended up being a 4 hour appointment, but I ultimately didn't mind because it was my day off. I don't know if all returning customers get this treatment or if it's just a first time thing, but I will definitely be back! read more

Worst hair cut and worst customer experience. Do not go here and do not go to Ashley Rose Spicer. After specifically noting that I wanted my hair long for an upcoming event, she cut 8 inches off (when I asked for 2inches). I was left with an uneven cut with significantly shorter pieces in the back It's so bad that I'm embarrassed to wear my hair down. I even consulted another hair stylist who was shocked that my hair was left in that condition. Upon calling the salon back (within 15 minutes of my appointment) and sending pictures of my butchered hair, the front desk lady agreed how bad the cut was and I was told that they would refund my money. However, when I called back the following business day asking for my refund, they quickly changed their story and refused to refund my money. It seems their tactic of customer service is to be rude once they have your money. While they insisted I come back into the salon, I asked for an explanation of what could be done to fix my hair - they were unable to provide any solutions. I asked for to speak to the owner of the salon and was told that she had more important things to deal with. read more

I had been searching online to find a salon that could do balayage with a specific all over color with my second color woven in. What I wanted required a master stylist who was skilled in advanced color technique. The Jon Alan salon advertised on their website that they could do this. Their website looks like they are a high end salon. When I made my appt., I explained IN DETAIL what I wanted and they told me they could do it. I waited 2 weeks for this appt. and was excited to be going yesterday to get my new look. When I arrived, the staff was very nice and accommodating, but it didn't take long for my experience to start going downhill fast. I explained to the stylist they put me with, someone named "T", exactly what I wanted and showed her several pictures and examples. She looked confused and it took me several minutes of explaining and showing example after example for her to finally say she understood. Well, she didn't. She started by putting a big glob of bleach on top of my head and then started foiling in some other color. I told her that what she was doing, was not going to turn out like what I had showed her I wanted. She told me it would and that I just didn't understand the process. I asked her to get another stylist to come over so I could show them what I wanted and see if they agreed with what my stylist was doing. The 2nd stylist just agreed with everything my stylist said and told me it would turn out just like the pictures I had showed her and again I was told I just didn't understand the process. She was also very rude and condescending. I told them both that although I was not a stylist, I knew enough to know that what was being done would not produce the look I wanted. At that point, I knew that the salon put me with a stylist who knew absolutely nothing about balayage. I told my stylist to just finish putting the foils in and get whatever she was doing to some presentable color, wash it out and dry my hair so I could get out of there. She kept insisting that it would give me the color I wanted. After she washed my hair, she put me under the hairdryer that comes down over your head, and theirs had a face shield that came down in front of your face, which the stylist bashed into my forehead. She apologized, but I'm not certain it was unintentional. After my hair was almost dry, she put me back in her chair and my hair was the exact same color I had walked in there with only a little lighter, which is exactly what I told her and the other stylist would happen. She then said she was going to mix my second color and I told her that she was not putting anymore color on my hair because she did not achieve the base color I wanted and I was not putting my second color on top of a color I didn't want. After that, she went and got her assistant to come over and dry my hair, and that was the last I saw of her. When I went up to the front desk, I told the girl exactly what happened and that I was not paying for a color that I didn't want. I told her that I explained in detail what I wanted when I made the appt. and asked her why they would assign a stylist that knew absolutely nothing about balayage or advanced color technique. The girl apologized and told me that they would not charge me anything for the visit and offered to put me with one of their "higher end stylists" to see if they could do what I wanted. I told her they should have put me with the "higher end stylist" to begin with and that I was not letting anyone else from that place touch my hair. If you want a color that you could get from Supercuts, then by all means, go to the Jon Alan salon. However, if you want a new look that requires a master colorist, stay far away from this place. The only thing their stylists care about is being right, not about giving the client what they asked for. I left there almost in tears because I was so disappointed with what happened. Now, I have to wait at least 2 weeks before letting someone else do the technique I want because whatever glob of bleach she put on my roots has fried my hair and scalp. This salon needs to be put out of business as far as I'm concerned because not only do they not know what their doing, they can cause some serious damage. STAY FAR AWAY!!! read more

I have been this salon many times. Kasee used to be my stylist, but unfortunately she moved back to TX. My past appointment (last week) was with Marie. I was very nervous. I am a blonde, but do not like the "overprocessed" blond look so I am very picky about who puts color on this head. Marie did a fabulous job!! I love my hair color. It is pricey, highlights alone was $130 dollars & my hair is not very long (past my chin, not quite at my shoulders). The do try to push you to buy their products. I do use Aveda products, but when I run out I just stop by there and by them (as I need it). Aveda products are VERY expensive too. I have a few Aveda products I have bought (they pushed on me during previous appointments) that I have rarely used. Be ready to shell out lots of money! read more

I am very disappointed by my second visit here. First time I found a stylist I loved but sadly she moved. I saw someone else and it looked *ok* in the salon, not great, but then when I got home I realized how bad it looked. I had said I didn't want to be super blonde and got partial balayage It literally looks like she just dyed only the thin top layer blonde - and it's chunky!!!!!! It looks like I dyed my hair blonde and let it grow out for 6 months. Not to mention it also has 5 different shades of blonde in my hair??? So sloppy and I am highly disappointed. I'm going to another salon to have it fixed this week. Didn't call and complain when I got home strictly because I don't want to go back to this salon to get it fixed and I figured that would be the only option they would offer me. I first came to J'on Alan after being dissatisfied with other salons in the Franklin/Brentwood area. I'm very particular about my hair, as I am a highlighted blonde and I'm always worried it's going to come out looking too phony. I had dyed my hair brown for a short while, and I wanted to go back to blonde... My first appointment was with Kasee, and within two appointments I was back to my old self. I really appreciated how she took the time to make sure not to shock my hair by going back to a lighter color so quickly, listening to what I wanted, and how nice the overall experience was. (Coffee, wine, etc offered, hand/neck massage offered...) I live in NYC now, but I always make sure to book with Kasee when I make the trip back home to TN! She's great. All in all - my appointments have been on time, I've been very satisfied with my results, and even though can be a bit pricey with higher level stylists - it's worth it. read more

I will never return. I went to Jon Alan, due to their close proximity to my office. I do not have a "hair home" in Nashville and hoped they may be it. Definitely not. First, they overbook. I was there for over three hours and the whole time the stylist was walking to other chairs to work on other people. I understand overlapping two clients, but it was ridiculous. I asked to leave, even though I had color still on my head, and they acted skiddish. Instead of actually hurrying, they sent someone over to perform a complimentary hand massage. They do provide these, but I'd wanted to leave. In the end, they left the color on my hair too long and it looked horrid. Before I even saw it the stylist said, "It may be too light for you." Sure enough. They will not give you a discount or allow you not to pay. I threatened and the receptionist said they are required to call the police for shoplifting. Instead you have to go back to reschedule and within the week. I tried to make a few appointments to fit my travel/work schedule and it was never convenient. I ended up feeling my $200 hair color and cut was a lesson learned. Second, they are big on the up sale. At the end of the session they walk you around their AVEDA store, with a shopping basket, and tell you how they enjoy a product and stick it in your basket and quickly move on. I watched the process happen to me in shock and horror. I understand that stylists can make a good amount of money off of product, and had a habit of purchasing products from my stylist at my past hair home. However, I need to know him/her and have confidence in them. When you check out you tell the receptionist you don't want them, but I hate the presumptuous sales technique. Third, a woman came into the store and approached all customers to purchase a boxed lunch. It is a nice idea, but it was worrisome that the stylist openly said she didn't know who the woman was or what she was doing in the salon. She followed this remark with they had someone else come in for breakfast the previous day, so "the manager must have approved it." Nobody in the shop questioned the woman or her existence. So, can anyone come into the shop, approach customers and sell goods? Not an atmosphere I'd like to be in. Fourth, I had been to a AVEDA salon years ago and it made my head itch and burn. Same unfortunate experience. I mentioned this and the response was, "Huh" and she moved the foils around. No relief. I wrote a letter to the manager of the store, after asking for him/her on the phone twice and being told he/she was unavailable. I never heard back. Figures. Stay the heck away. read more

Horrible hair salon. I wish there was an option to give no stars. First off, they give you an odd aroma "massage" that actually kind of hurt my shoulders and made me feel uncomfortable. Second, I wanted just a simple TRIM and the stylist completely messed up my hair. I have long hair and wanted to keep it long by having the least amount cut off. Why is that so hard? I went to three different stylists at three different salons before I finally got someone to take me seriously and give me the pixie cut I wanted. Amanda at J'on Alan was that someone. Now I'm bored with the pixie and trying to grow it out, and she's helping me keep it looking halfway decent in the process. I would recommend her to anyone. The reception staff are always friendly and I've only had to wait more than a few minutes once, no problems with overbooking (although I'm self-employed so I can go at, say, 10am on a Wednesday. I realize not everyone has that option). I've also never had a hard sell to buy products, and have only ever purchased one item in the year+ that I've been coming here. Girls know finding a hair stylist you like it just has difficult as finding the perfect fit jeans or hell the perfect MAN at that! (recently discovered Express Stella size 2 short is perfect and happily married 3.15.14!) I had a stylist for 5 years she up and moved to Florida. I went 6 months without a haircut a friend at work suggested I go to Jon Alan here in Franklin! I was wary at first but so frustrated with my split ends! I went to their webpage and used the ULTRA EASY ONLINE SCHEDULING TOOL picked a time said with any stylist and got paired with Hayley! I purchased a Groupon for professional waxing from the salon. My first impression of the place was that it was trendy, well-organized and clean. The staff that greeted me were very polite and friendly and introduced me to my aesthetician, Katie. After breifly showing me around and offering me a free hot cup of tea, Katie and I got to work. 30 short (and nearly painless) minutes later, I was on my way out the door to meet my boyfriend for lunch. I will definitely be going back to hopefully experience more professionalism as exhibited by Katie today in other areas of service provided by the salon. read more

I had a negative experience at Tiffany on the Row last week (I had left a review on yelp about it, but took it down after receiving a voicemail from Tiffany herself, who mentioned she was considering consulting her attorney about slander) and called J'on Alan Salon hoping they could save my hair. Well, they went above and beyond to correct my botched hair job. I had an appt on 4/19 with Leah, who was wonderful! She was a really good listener and was able to deliver just what I had asked for. She was able to fix the terrible color and cut I had received a week before, restore moisture to my dried out locks, and bring back volume to my hair with an awesome cut. I am 100% thrilled with my experience and look forward to having Leah again when it's time for a touch up and trim. I also had some waxing done with LaRhonya, who did a great job and was super sweet. I have been going to J'on Alan Salon on and off for a few years and every time I go, I am very satisfied with the service and the stylists. read more

Very impressed! I joked with the salon when I scheduled my appnt 2 weeks in advance that it was my birthday. When I arrived it is reminiscent of a day spa - same look, same smells - which I love! They wished my 'happy birthday' when I checked in and were wonderfully warm and receptive. The girl at the counter was so warm and friendly and came around the counter to speak with me. I was taken to the cut specialist first. I was given an Aveda scalp and shoulder massage which was wonderful and unrushed. I gave her a picture - and (this is the only reason for the 4 star rating) my hair was cut - much shorter than the pic given. A bit disappointing, but my hair grows very fast - and I have worn it short before. I moved on the color specialist who looked at pics with me on their IPAD. (cute touch!) We decided on a color treatment and she began. While in between processes, she joked around, gave me a hand and arm massage, Wrapped my arms and hands in hot towels with lotion and pulled up some funny YouTube videos on the IPAD as we had fun. The color was amazing! LOVED it! I had explained to her that I wasn't thrilled about my cut, and she cleaned it up and it looks amazing! While I was in her chair the entire staff came with a Gigi's cupcake and a candle and sang Happy Birthday! I was so shocked! This place pours on the warm fuzzies and they went out of their way to make me have a wonderful visit. All in all - I love my hair! LOVE IT! I have already booked my next appointment. My hair looks terrible and I've been crying all day! Dawn was nice enough, but it was definitely NOT worth the money and I HATE my hair. :( I should have been more wary when they could fit me in so soon...the better stylist take months to get in with. I won't be going back and I do not recommend it. read more
