Another great lunch from Flyin Ahi. It was almost 1pm after going to the movies at Windward Mall, so I was hungry. I decided to stop by here, since it was only a couple of minutes away on my way home. I pulled around to the back of the bldg by going past the laundromat, and there was plenty of parking. I ordered a Korean fried chicken plate at the window, and was given the buzzer. It only took a few minutes before I got the buzz, and was on my way home. The chicken was still hot and crispy when I got home, and the two salads (green and mac) were still cold. The sauce on the chicken isn't the traditional Korean (shoyu, garlic, ginger, sesame) one that I'm used to, but it's still tasty. It's more of a sweet honey/citrus style, but it goes well with the salad and rice, and I especially love that the chicken skin is really crispy. I also like that they put furikake over the bed of rice that's under the huge pieces of chicken, too. A great lunch at a fairly reasonable cost. read more

Be prepared to wait. This is probably not a spot to takeout if you have a set amount of time for lunch. There are times when it's so busy that they won't even take your order for a few minutes despite being at the counter. I understand it's a 1-2 person operation, but it must be said. It also isn't the easiest to find. It's tucked away in the strip mall, but usually you'll find a few folks waiting for their order. As for the food quality, the Kalbi fries are a heavy meal. The sauce is very strong but it does have flavor. The combination with the white sauce is good. But it's a lot. And it's not a dish you can necessarily eat for leftovers, so I recommend sharing this dish with another person or 2. I hope to give this place a shot later, but not everything can be a 5, right? read more

First off, the hype about this place is legit. You can't come to Flyin Ahi and not get the kalbi fries, it's what they're known for. It's always my go to order and I'll probably never get sick of it. The amount of flavor packed in those fries are insanely good and they are not stingy on the pieces of kalbi either! Their poke, katsu, chicken and fish are a must try as well! It's always a pleasure to be served by Shaw. The cooks and service there are tremendous and that is what has been bringing me back to this little hole in the wall. The FOH has not been opened yet (to my knowledge) but ordering take out is still just as good. read more

Friendly service with good lunch hours and surprisingly good prices with good portions. The order was mixed up so I'll have to order the kalbi fries again because I got home and it was rice and chicken. The spicy poke was pretty good and the fish tacos were bomb! Hole in the wall takeout place. You'll need to ring the bell in the front to catch their attention. I think the person taking the orders is the same person cooking. I only tried their kalbi fries with a side of spicy ahi, and this combo was soo good. The kalbi is cut into thin pieces so it's easy to pick up with your utensils. The kalbi was well seasoned and is not too chewy. I really like their poke too. Lots of fries, good for 2 people. Would definitely try more of their poke and other dishes. read more

How did I NOT know about this gem in Kaneohe? More so, how did I NOT know this building they are in had a backside? My mind is blown! This place has a simple menu but oh what, a menu! Ordering was easy and friendly! We even got a buzzer for when our order was ready! We tried the Korean chicken, the scallion sauced ono and the (drool worthy) kalbi fries. Everything was amazing! The Mac salad had chopped black olives in it...who does that nowadays? The kalbi on the fries were tender and tasty balancing the wasabi aioli on the fries. Finally got a chance to samps this place and I got the Ahi katsu plate and added on the kalbi and Korean chicken! Wife got the fish tacos with fries and added on kalbi! Everything was so ono, the only thing I would do is ask for extra sauce on the katsu! Had one line when we rolled up but the line went quick and the food came out less than 20mins. Flyin Ahi gives you both along with the generous portion of rice and a huge portion of fish. One of their go to dishes is the Kalbi french fries which looks amazing. I did not get a chance to order it but definitely on my next visit. Also the black and Aki salad is delicious. The tall Caucasian male who takes your order at the window is friendly, pleasant, attentive and seems to appteciate our continuing patronage. He always have a happy smiley face. As for the Delicious food they offer, it's always fresh and very affordable. My favorite is their Ono Katsu. If you prefer to have the katsu on the crunchy side, ask for the sauce separately. Service was excellent server was polite and since it is takeout only there is just a small window. They use a buzzer device to let you know when your order is ready so you can wait in your car. I had the limu ahi which is actually a plate with rice mac salad and green salad. To my surprise they added a sprinkle of taegu on top of ahi. I don't like onions so there may have beedtoo much onioms in the green salad. A small critique is that the plate would have been better using a 3-4 sectioned container.
