I've been taking my vehicles to K & M for at least ten years and usually had a pretty decent experience. Last June I took my Tahoe to them for an AC service. They did the job and got the AC working for me but, when I went to pick it up, I noticed that the backup camera wasn't working. I informed the guy at the desk and he immediately started gaslighting me by insinuating that the camera going out was an intermittent problem that had probably been happening for a while. I told him that the camera had worked perfectly EVERY time I put the Tahoe in reverse ever since I purchased it until his shop serviced it that day and asked him to have the technician that worked on the vehicle undo whatever he did to make it stop working. After three "attempts" to fix the issue over several weeks, he gave up and admitted that they hadn't even tried to figure out the problem because he said that, by working on the AC, they hadn't came anywhere near the information center where the camera picture would normally appear. Through the entire process he continued to gaslight me by insisting that it had been an intermittent problem BEFORE I took it to them for the AC service. Bottom line; they never fixed the issue and I still don't have a working backup camera and now I have to find a new, reliable garage to service my vehicles. read more

I've had my car serviced with them for about a year without any problems. Recently they installed a battery that I purchased elsewhere. When I left after the service and stopped my carf for gas and it said my battery was saving and I was unable to drive it. I got a jump and was told they did not reset my new battery which is a no brainer and not doing so could cause electrical damage I called to mention this and was given two stories #1 gentleman said the mechanic said she reset and it takes a while to kick in. Ok.wish they had warned me. The next day a lady called from office to say the mechanic did not reset because she didn't think she needed to. Just Google, people, it will tell you. But frankly I want a mechanic that knows what they are doing especially when they charge 112.00 to install a battery I purchased. Last time I do business here. read more

K & M installed a rebuilt transmission for me to the tune of 3600.00 It failed at 20k miles and 800+ miles away from their shop. I emailed them 2 time so far and the have not responded to any of my inquires. I would advise everyone to look elsewhere for auto repair. These guys can not be trusted. read more

Worst shop ever and They will scam you like they did me. They basically destroyed my car and lied about all of it and I had to take it to another shop and pay someone else. The mechanic also yelled at some guy riding by with his son and made a big scene. Some over weight guy that works there, very fat man. Made everyone uncomfortable I think. This place just seems like they employ clowns that do bad work. Do not take your car here. Also the over weight guy was not wearing a mask which is actually unsafe, not the guy on the bike he was yelling at for no reason with his son. Either way, this place is sketchy. read more

You won't find a better and more honest auto repair shop than K & M Auto Service on SE 50th. You won't go wrong with this place. I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla with 120 K on it. I came in thinking I needed a Transmission fluid flush, a Brake fluid flush, and Beaverton Toyota had told me that I had an oil leak in the Timing Cover area, and my Timing Chain Tensioner was leaking. K & M did a free inspection, and found NOTHING wrong! They even showed me the color of my fluids, to prove that they did not need to be changed! Jackie, a woman in the front office, is the most knowledgeable and articulate service person I have ever talked to in an auto repair shop. You won't go wrong with this place. I am woman who has always bought used cars. I've had lots of thing go wrong with them over the years. I've had to learn a lot about cars. I feel so lucky to have found this place. I'm coming back here for a Synthetic oil change and a Brake fluid flush next year. I will never go back to Beaverton Toyota. read more

My favorite mechanic at Gateway Service retired leaving me to find a new place to get my 2008 f150 serviced. Had a oil leak in passenger side valve cover they quoted me $600.00 because they said the air-conditioner would need to be disconnected took it home and did it myself in forty five minutes. The truck has 90 thousand miles so I asked it they could change the sparkplugs the 5.4m can be a problem with the plugs they said one thousand dollars, once again I took it home and did it myself in two hours it was easy. Still looking for a honest repair shop. These people do not need to worry about looking at my truck any more. read more

So I took my truck in because the PCV valve and left valve cover was making noise. I made the appointment on Friday morning, I heard nothing all day I finally called at 4:35 they told me I had problems, needed a new timing chain....odd I thought talked to my husband he said go ahead and do it, thankfully they had all ready left for the day and it was never done, so I was without my truck all weekend. Monday again heard nothing, called that afternoon, they were going to do a compression test on my truck. He did however call me back to tell me I needed a new engine. I then went to pick it up and took it for a second opinion. The other place I took it to, as I earlier stated, replaced my valve cover and valve, and changed my oil. Oh and they said my engine is running perfectly strong.....always get a second opinion. read more

Several weeks back my blinker went out, I called ,they told me to bring it in and they fixed it within an hour and didn't charge me. Last week, my power steering and brakes went out as I was driving. The tow truck was able to drop my car directly to the mechanic around closing time. Two days later, my car was back up and running and it drives better than it has in a while. They even gave me a discount on an oil change I needed because they knew that I didn't anticipate such a costly repair for my power steering. I'm glad this is my neighborhood mechanic! read more

Yet again, another case of upselling because a young-looking woman goes into a car shop. I took my car here, quoted $380 and almost a 9 hour wait to fix a minor problem. I called the car shop in my previous neighborhood who fixed the problem for $80 in 45 minutes. read more

These guys are so amazing! I went to 4 different shops before I found them, and all 4 before them wouldn't even bother with my car or warranty policy. They went above and beyond to help me with getting my transmission replaced and battled the not so easy to deal warranty company for me. My family has used this shop way more than I'd like. I guess that's the downfall of having older cars..they're always in the shop! K&M is a shop we trust. The front desk guys are straight shooters, friendly and they've always gotten us right in when we needed it. They are a bit spendier than the shop I've used in the past and that's the reason I'm not giving 5 stars. Every few months they send people in the areas closest to them these $20 off any service flyer. I love these! They can even be used on an oil change. I've used K&M about 6-7 times now and they haven't pissed me off yet - that's saying something! read more

They systematically diagnose the problems and professionally repaired my vehicle! They also included a lot of the parts for free! They even insisted that I take their loaner car while they repaired my van! I truly felt like they treated me like family! I had a Pathfinder once that broke down and this shop is around the corner from my house so I had it towed there. They told me a spark plug wire was arcing which caused the problem. They also recommended a major tune-up and a fuel injector cleaning. It was a bit spendy but they were honest and up front and I went ahead with it. They did great work and the car ran way better and stronger right up until I sold it. They are definitely a bit spendy but you get what you pay for and honesty which is hard to come by these days. read more

I was getting my 26 year old truck ready to sell and then with no warning it would not start, had to be towed to K & M. They worked on it for 3 days, did a tune up and still not running well. After working on it for 2 more days without charging me for the extra labor they found the computer module to be defective. Running great now. It was mid-day on a Sunday --the day the shop is closed-- and the direct heat from the sunlight had made everyone a bit flustered. After a quasi-argument with a gas station attendant (whose English skills were not particularly proficient), we had begun to consider that perhaps a gasoline sensor in the 2008 Prius was malfunctioning, as opposed to a broken gasoline pump at the station. We stopped on at nearest mechanic on our route and met a Father/Son team who, despite obviously being in mid-project catching up on other work orders, they most kindly took the time to plug a diagnostic device to the car and gave us some suggestions on what the problem was and various repair options, including some common-sense ideas which we could perform ourselves. These guys took time (on a day the shop is technically closed) to perform a basic diagnostic check-up. Everything was explained in plain English, and being a bit flustered from the heat, the diagnostic was done out of the goodness of their hearts -- to pause their active project to perform a quick Dx and offered several ideas for solutions, some at their shop, some things we can do at home. They were not "pushy" or try to sell/charge us in ways some mechanics do (ex: "You need rust proofing." etc.), They were exceedingly kind and understanding about our situation -- and did not charge a dime for their time and Dx service. It's that "human connection" that Portland seems to have in abundance, or at least at this mechanic shop. If the sensor needs replacing, or general repairs which come up from time to time, we'll be going to K&M for our future car repair needs. Taking time on their day off to do a Dx for free on a customer who arrived unannounced.....they were really just great and understanding about "The Great Gas Fiasco" we experienced... ...and as a result, have gained a loyal customer for future work. Kind, professional, and even recommended specialty shops for Prius work, as well as explain the Dx results in plain English. General service happiness rating (performed gratis) at 110%! read more

There are few things in life more relieving than finding a top-notch mechanic, especially if you have a classic (carbureted) car. Mike at K&M has been fantastic, and most recently fixed an oil leak issue that was accidentally caused by another shop (with a 4 star rating) that I went to a couple months before finding K&M (improperly-sealed manifold gasket.) I've made a list now of all the projects I have left for my old truck that are a pain to do myself (which is mostly "daily driver" restored) Great work, and sage advice. You are not in the shop for more than a few moments when you are greeted, nicely, even when they are occupied. If so, they tell you that it will just be a moment. This is the worst place you could ever take your car. My daughter has had her car in there twice, and we have spent over 1300 dollars to have the problems resolved and there are now more error codes than when we initially brought it in. Kevin would not give me the owners information for me to talk with him, so at this point we are retaining council and taking this terrible place to court to get our money back. My wife and I have an '03 Ford Escape, getting up in miles. Unfortunately, that means is needed some service over the last few years. When we first moved to Portland nearly 10 years ago we didn't know where to take it, who we could trust, so we took it to K & M solely because we live within walking distance. I've never taken it anywhere else since. The guys that work the front of the shop are straight-shooters who will tell you what you NEED to fix and what can wait. WISH I COULD GIVE LESS THAN 1 STAR! I had hoped to get this resolved and not have to resort to posting on social media, but unfortunately it has come to this. In July I took my 2004 Lexus GX 470 in to K&M to have an oil change and for them to check through the vehicle prior to leaving on a 1000+ mile road trip. I was having NO issues with the vehicle whatsoever. They recommended a transmission flush. After they flushed the transmission the vehicle would not go in to 1st gear. We were told the transmission would have to be completely rebuilt. THEY DAMAGED A PERFECTLY FINE TRANSMISSION. I did some research after this happened and found out the transmission on a Lexus GX470 should NEVER BE FLUSHED. There is a warning in the manual about it. I had to have my transmission rebuilt by another shop. That alone cost me $3600. This doesn't include the other cost associated with this. They even charged me for the transmission flush which ruined it in the first place. I have tried to resolve this matter with K&M directly, but have ended up hiring a lawyer. My lawyer has sent them 2 certified letters, but THEY WON'T SIGN FOR THEM. I can only assume THEY KNOW THAT THEY ARE AT FAULT FOR DAMAGES AND ARE TRYING TO AVOID US. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ALTHOUGH THEY SEEM OK AT THE BEGINNING, ONCE THINGS GO BAD THEY GO REALLY BAD. read more

You want to know whether or not a shop is totally honest send a mechanic with a car he has already inspected. These guys give all new meaning to the term "upsell". They will find problems that don't even exist. In fact if your previous mechanic didn't put stickers on the car or report the repair to carfax they will assume it wasn't done at all and tell you it needs replaced. For Example: Subaru, They said the timing belt needs replaced because there was no sticker saying it had been replaced. Didn't even pull the cover and inspect the obviously new belt. Spark plugs and coils. These they said needed replaced because there was no record of it being done. Again an actual inspection would have shown otherwise. Rack and pinion steering. They said needed replaced because it was leaking oil. Actual inspection showed no drips and only a slight dampness on the bottom of the boots with no dampness near either end of the boot. This means that the dampness likely came from external sources. Top of the boots were clean. The rest of the rack could have been brand new with no leaks or signs of any oil or grease from anywhere. I have seen racks on newer cars with 50k miles that had worse looking boots. Avoid these guys like the plague. If your car has 120k miles their inspection is based on a lot of assumption and very little actual facts. read more

$140 bucks to replace a serpentine/accessory belt... That is the labor and belt (which is a cheap dayco btw). SMH you can go buy a good (gates/motorcraft) from any car shop for around $25-$30 and replace yourself in about 10 mins tops. Even if I have the money I see no reason throwing that much away to someone that can fix the problem in a minute with the right tools it's ridiculous. read more

I was informed by management at K and M auto repair on multiple occasions that they would waive the diagnosis fee if I had the repair done at their shop, but when I picked up my truck from being repaired, I was charged for the diagnosis. When I got home I called the other shop on 50th to inquire about their policy regarding diagnosis fees and was again informed that they do not charge the fee if you have the repair done. Afterward Jerry at the shop on 122nd told me over the phone that he always charges the fee, even though that is different from what he told me every time before and I have recent receipts for repairs by that shop done to my other truck proving that the fee was not charged. He refused to refund me the money, even though I have spent well over $3000 there within the past year. THIS BUSINESS HAS AN "F" RATING AT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. I should have checked BEFORE getting repairs done. My bad. read more
