Then proceeded to wait fifteen minutes only to be told they didn't have the the long bread. Ok. No problem. I'll take a buttered roll. Waited another 15 minutes and got a roll with hardly any butter on it. Ok. No problem. Do I get any money back because the long bread was $6? Nope. Do I get offered something for my inconvenience? Nope. I do speak Spanish, so I don't think there was a communication problem. So I sit outside with my dry ass sparsely buttered roll and try to make the best of it. It's a beautiful day out and I'm not going to let this ruin it. After about fifteen minutes the lady who works there came out and offered me a grilled cheese. I kindly explained to the nice lady what the problem was, refused and left to enjoy the rest of my day, thinking to myself, how do you ruin a simple thing like buttered bread? People spend a lot of money going to college and don't learn a damn thing. Me? I spent $9.50 and learned a whole lot.. . Never coming back.

This was DoorDash, so keep this in mind. Delivery took FOREVER, so that could have affected the food. Also, I was working, so I was intermittently trying to stuff my mouth while completing documentation, meetings, and other tasks. I got several types of empanadas. Shredded chicken, cheese, shredded beef, pollo. My pollo mechado (chicken and cheese) and carne mechada/queso (shredded beef and cheese) were cancelled, as they were out of stock. I also got the club house pollo, which was disappointing, but that might have been affected by the fact it was delivered rather than consumed in-house. Made with grilled chicken, egg, bacon, cheese, ham, and accompanied by French fries, the sandwich fell flat for me. Pretty sure it would have been better hot and fresh, so I wouldn't deter anyone from trying it. But it could have used some seasoning. People rave about this Venezuelan place, so by all means try it . . . they have breakfast platters and sandwiches (mostly various combos of bacon, egg, cheese, ham), arepas, Venezuelan hotdogs. Other hot sandwiches like the Cubano and Philly cheese steak (but let's be honest--your corner bodega is better). Multiple types of burritos and other Venezuelan fast foods. Again . . . please try this place, especially in person. My food was delivered and took a long time, which again, isn't optimal. I'm not a fan of corn casings, which is a preference thing and a *redacted word that rhymes with bingo* thing, I am so embarrassed I can't make myself love corn tortillas and empanadas. And the mood was off, I was working. The empanadas, regardless taking so long, were delivered HOT! From what I read, the brick and mortar restaurant is clean, calm, and enjoyable, and they have a huge variety of Venezuelan dishes. Don't listen to me, and give it a try yourself, especially in person, not by delivery!

Amidst a pub, animal hospital, smoke shop and a few other storefronts, is El Cantito Cafe on Central Ave in Yonkers. No reservations, just walk in. But the lady on the phone said to come right away and grab the only 2-seater available. Bet. Tito Rojas, Victor Manuelle and other Salseros were blasting up in this joint when we came on a Friday night. Debbie as it turns out, is the sister in this duo and greeted us like we've been long-time friends- and our table was in fact waiting for us. Large framed photographs of Puerto Rico and Vejigantes decorate Cantito's dark grey walls. Our Mojito and Lemonade Spiked with Coconut something had strength but had too much ice. Service was excellent and so friendly. Our server was a sweetheart and the brother in this partnership, greeted us. My Creole Shrimp with a side of white rice/red beans was good. Hubs liked his fried pork chunks and remembers that particular taste and seasoning growing up. Typical Puerto Rican mofongo calls for chicharrón in it- but Cantito doesn't include any which is a great, creative-thinking Vegan move for a classic dish like this one. I'm not sure what else I can say about this Puerto Rican spot, except for the fact that the food is tasty, you're greeted like family (hubs felt right at home) and the music is banging.

A friend had suggested placing the order the evening before so it would be ready on time, and that is what I did. The restaurant even called me after placing it to confirm it was for the next day, and I confirmed that it was. We didn't order much, but what we ordered we loved. We got an order of samosas, paneer korma, and paratha. All of what we ordered was delicious. We were running a bit late, and the restaurant was kind enough to store our order in their fridge until we got there since I informed them that we wouldn't be eating it until later. Overall, I can't wait to have this food again - my one and only tip would be that I would have loved a mixed veg/paneer option for my Korma!

I was not a big fan of the vegetable biryani, even though it looked promising with fried shallots sprinkled on top. It had too much cardamom powder in it, and that threw off the flavor profile. Would love to try other items on their menu. Get their jalapeno (not mint sauce). Would appreciate it if the restaurant made it possible to enter comments for the food items being ordered on doordash so we can make a few remarks on which sauce i would like with my order. The lackluster ambiance was also nearly a dealbreaker! Also, the restrooms also clearly needed more attention, a lil dirty and lil smelly. However, I decided to take a chance, and I'm glad I did. The food was surprisingly impressive. My partner loved the chicharrón de pollo with tostones and the chicken empanada taco. I opted for the baked chicken with rice and beans and the pernil empanada taco, both of which were delicious. The empanada tacos were easily the highlight of the meal. We paired everything with passion fruit margaritas that hit the spot. Despite the environment, the service was excellent, our server was attentive and very helpful. I'd come back for those empanada tacos alone if I am in the area.

As far as the service, they are all friendly and attentive. We ordered cheeseburger and bacon egg with cheese empanada tacos and the chicharrón de pollo with Moro . The empanada tacos are split down the middle and stuffed with fried cheese, sweet plantain and lettuce topped with special sauces: green and pink. But the BEC one comes with a special sauce that sweet. The highlight of the chicharrón plate is the salad. The dressing is so good and simple. I love it! There's notes of lime and vinegar. It only comes with the plates. Oh, I also tasted the cheeseburger empanada. The thang was filled to the rim and fried to perfection! I also had the new dessert. And I loved it. It was served cold with layers of vanilla cake, cool whip, thinly sliced strawberries and apples. It was fresh and light served in a perfect amount. Oh, there was also a bit of jam in there. It was good! Hands down better than the birthday cake empanada.
