There is a big variety of fillings to choose from ($3.75 ea) or you can mix and match them for 1/2 dozen ($22) and whole dozen ($40) boxes. We gathered orders in the office and put in an order for 3 dozen (There is a 3.5% credit card charge). Parking on Halstead was easy and so was pick up. The very nice lady proudly presented our empanadas to us, packed our boxes in bags and loaded us up with dipping sauces. Each flavor empanada is color coded, so we were able to sort them out for each person's order. The coloring is natural, so you don't have to be worried about artificial dyes. Empanadas: Beef (Carne) - Red (Rojo) Chicken (Pollo) - Yellow (Amarillia) Mango Pork (Cerdo con Mango) - Black (Negro) Guava & Cheese - Pink (Rosada) Spinach & Cheese - Green (Verde) Chorizo & Cheese - Purple (Morado) Blueberry Goat Cheese - Black / White (Negro y Blanca) Vegan Black Bean & Sweet Bell Pepper (Frijol Negro) - Orange (Naranja) Vegan Chorizo & Sweet Potato (Chorizo Vegano) - Purple / White (Morado/Negra) Vegan Beef & Plantain (Mofango Vegano) - Red / White We were given 3 dipping sauces: Signature Hot Sauce (Orange) Cilantro Lime Crema (Light Green) Grilled Tomatillo (Green) My favorite is the spicy orange sauce, but other people said it was too hot, but perfect for me. You'll find El Artesano Empanads in the Sir John Plaza next to Violetta Nails. While tiny, they offer some outside seating along with two high top tables inside. Guys...the food was DELICIOUS. I ordered their viral steak sandwich, churros, and of course, their empanadas. The steak sandwich was INCREDIBLE. I intended to share it with my fiancé however he's not eating bacon and they were not able to make a sandwich without it (Which was not a problem for me, so I was happy to have this sandwich all to myself ). Expert tip: add cheese. It was incredibly flavorful and seasoned perfectly! For the empanadas I decided to get a box of 6, as they have SO MANY FLAVORS! (See video). Today I received a different side sauce: red pepper and jalapeño, which are totally different than the one they had before. Previously the side sauce was more similar to chimichurri. Though the new sauce is not common to the flavors of South America, I like better. My favorite is the jalapeño and is spicy. They take a few minutes to warm up the empanadas and the times I was there it was not busy. The indoor seating area is small and still seems cozy. I usually order to go. I believe when the weather is warmer they also have some outdoor seating. They also offered pizza before but I learned today they don't anymore.

This would be the first time I would sit down to eat in . Male: worker / manager supervisor or owner? approached me after I had ordered to eat in and sat down ( he's middle aged , big built , black hair , black mustache & wore Glasses w/black frames). Male Comes up-to me where I'm sitting and says, " You Have to pay now ". I ask: Oh, is the register closing ? He says: NO. But YOU have to pay up front otherwise I won't make the food. I ask: why? He says: ( hemming and hawing ) uhhh..( he mutters )you don't speak Spanish and I know that you won't pay. You have to pay now or we are not going to prepare the food . I ask again: what? Why? He says : I just told you we won't serve you unless you pay first. I know you wont pay". And he walks away. By now all the other customers have turned around and sone were whispering or shaking their heads and looking at me like I was sone kind of outcast or criminal . I get up and walk to the counter and remembered I had withdrawn cash to pay the painter for painting supplies . I flash a bundle of $100 bills at him. His body language immediately changes and he starts fidgeting and looks embarrassed and starts stuttering avoiding eye contact. I ask for his name . He says he won't provide it. A senior and elderly Peruvian lady who works there walks to him (behind the cashier counter ) all the while she's giving me disturbingly dirty looks and starts whispering. The most apparent thing was that this man took pleasure in humiliating me .. He had a scary Gleam in his eyes and a smirk when he spoke to me . Since I'm not African American, I feel this mans blatant disregard and disrespect allegedly runs deep towards people of non Spanish cultures. Mex food is my favorite and the food may be good at this restaurant but we are not talking about that . What is being talked about is something that needs to be immediately addressed and these two employees ( that man and the senior elderly Peruvian female worker ) certainly need a mandatory class on how to treat all customers equally and with respect no matter their race, gender, background and religious beliefs .
