Austin with K & R came out to assess my AC as one of the two Trane units had stopped working. I had previously contacted another company who had recommended replacement. I contacted K & R based on their great reviews, BBB rating, and ROC licensing. Austin was able to repair the unit!!! I had asked him about replacing it vs repairing it as the unit is about 20 years old and he encouraged me to do the repair rather than replace. That kind of integrity is rare these days. He was a very professional, personable and capable young man who answered all my questions and did a great job with the repair. When our hvac system stopped cooling last week, our handyman service advised that our compressor was beyond repair and they would provide us with a quotation for replacement. In looking for a second opinion, a good friend of my wife suggested K & R Refrigeration, who had completed work for her mother in Sun Lakes and who had been recommended to them by a trusted local repair man. Coincidentally, a good friend of mine in Sun Lakes also recommended K & R! K & R responded quickly to our call for help and their quote for replacing our 5 ton Trane rooftop unit was 33 percent lower than our maintenance service company' quote - a difference of almost $5k ! Not only were K & R more than fair in their pricing but they were able to provide and install the new unit almost immediatelly! (we accepted their quotaion on Friday and the unit was delivered and installed the following Monday morning! The new Trane unit is working wonderfully - we're getting a much stronger airflow, which cools our home much faster than in the past! Used K&R for a second opinion on a repair after the first AC company quote seemed filled with fluff. They came out same day and discovered it was one bad wire rather than an entire bad compressor. K&R Refrigeration was recommended to me but I will not be recommending them to anyone else. I called them about my daughter's condo unit leaking water. We had already cleared the lines to no avail so thought it was time to call a professional. This kid showed up and declared the drain line clogged (even though we mentioned we had cleared the line already...) and he pressurized the line with nitrogen, wrapped a coil that he said was exposed and handed us a bill for $250. 24 hours later the AC was leaking just as it was before, and I called K&R Refrigeration again to schedule a follow-up. That was when I was told they "don't really do those types of AC units and don't have the experience to address anything further than clearing the lines" (whether or not its necessary..). Basically, the service that I had gotten for the $250 was clearing a line that wasn't clogged and a good solid dose of "hope it fixed the problem'. Their lack of experience to handle a condo unit should have been disclosed AFTER I told the it was a condo unit and BEFORE accepting the work, so I told them I wanted my money back. Ken Ratliff called me and said he was going to refund $82.38 and keep the balance because "his technician's time is valuable and had to be paid for". Guess what, my time is valuable too and these folks wasted a great deal of it when the entire situation would have been avoided by them just saying they didn't service condo units. To complete my review I will say Mr. Ratliff did finally agree to refund the full $250, but not before making me angry enough to leave a bad review. Now and forever in my mind K&R Refrigeration= weak skills and bad business practices and my recommendation is find someone else for your AC needs. read more

I called K&R first thing Saturday morning and left a message hoping they might be able to come out on Monday or Tuesday and dreaded the thought that I might need a new unit. I received a call within 2 hrs and had a tech at my house an hour later. Curtis was great! He was friendly, professional and found the problem quickly. I have used this company several times so when my A/C made a weird noise I called them to schedule someone out. It was still running at that point. I knew it might not be right away since emergencies in this heat come first. I no sooner hung up and in about two hours it was clear something had broke and it was getting warm. I just missed them because they closed at 5 pm. But I did keep calling and finally left a message, They called back the next morning and had someone out by noon. They were able to repair but gave me the option of replacement if I wanted. I took the repair hoping to squeak out a couple more years. The technician was super nice and let me know what he was doing and gave me a quote right then and had the part on the truck, He was done in about a hour and my A/C is up and running. Thanks K and R! Had Andrew from K & R out to check my air conditioner out. It had been short cycling. He checked out everything and said one of the filters was too restrictive for my unit. One of the capacitors was a little weaker than the other but was not urgent to replace. I told him to replace it. He did not try to up sell me on anything. Andrew came out to service my air conditioner today. He discovered problems that Hughes Air in Mesa screwed up on. He took his time diagnosing the problem and spoke with fellow technicians to confirm his findings. Hughes Air did an install of a Trane furnace and air conditioning unit in 2018. The Trane technicians from Hughes Air wired my furnace backwards. My air conditioner could not operate properly. Andrew reprogrammed the termostat to two stage and fixed the problem. The humidity in my house was at 56%. I can't recommend K & R Refrigeration enough. Andrew is a super technician!! read more

Air conditioner stopped circulating cold air on Sunday July 3rd. Had used K and R before and checked their web site. Surprised to find they were open until 2:00 pm. Bottom line was they called me right back and had a technician at my house with in the hour. Fixed problem quickly and was charged a fair price given it was a holiday weekend. Very disappointed in service of K&R Refrigeration! I have been their customer for over 10 years but they lost me now. Called with problem In heating 11/21/22 paid for wire repair $173.23, a month later 12/21/22 I called again with no heat. They wanted over 7,500.00 for new AC unit which was much to much so, they charged me for "diagnostic " $ 130.50 that means for nothing! I found man who doesn't charge nothing for diagnosis and he installed needed AC Trane unit the same day for $5.500.00 K&R Refrigeration doesn't deserve to serve our community with their prices. read more

I would give 10 stars I could with K&R. They went over and above what you can ask for in service. My AC went down on a Monday evening. Tuesday mornings Curtis was at my door checking out my unit. It was a 24 year old and really did need replaced. We were selling our home with open house on Saturday, Even with units being behind from Trane to them they were able to get me a new trane 4 ton unit and sent 3 guys to install it on Friday. WOW! Time for a 6 mos service & we were not completely satisfied with previous company. Read several local reviews of A/C companies & talked to a friend who used K&R refrigeration. Called for apptmnt. "Steve" showed up on time and was most cordial and knowledgeable. His appearance, demeanor & attitude were what you hope for but rarely get any more. Steve serviced our AC unit & noted one minor issue. There was no hard sell to fix it now as he advised it could wait but wanted us to know that next year it would probably be a necessary fix. Said the A/C unit is in good shape, left us a brochure & was on his way. If you need an A/C company I would certainly recommend K&R Refrigeration. (ask if "Steve" is available to service your unit.
