Dana's Cake Shoppe - Caramel toffee, pistachio, vanilla chocolate

After our dinner at Travinia, I decided to give Dana's Cake Shoppe a try. The shop is small with a…read morefew tables for those who want to sit down and have their treats. The young woman working there was polite, patient and friendly. I looked at their selection of cupcakes and noticed some flavors were sold out. Finally, I decided to get one Boston cream pie cupcake and one caramel coffee cupcake. When we got home, we decided to try one of the cupcakes later in the evening. We agreed to share the Boston cream pie cupcake first. I cut it in half. We weren't impressed with this one. There was a small amount of custard in the cake part, while the top was dark chocolate frosting. We've had far better versions of this flavor cupcake in the past. The next night, we tried the caramel coffee one. It had a vanilla cake, which was on the dry side. However, the frosting was the star of the show. The coffee and the caramel flavors were noticeable. This cupcake was the better of the two. We don't regret trying the cupcakes... but... as to whether we would go again... well... the jury is still out.

Dana's Cake Shoppe - Inside / Interior of shop - I admit I did a double take - it looks too perfect like in a magazine lol. It IS beautiful inside.

I wish they'd put more meat in their sandwhiches, but the quiche brought a smile to my father's face so it made up for it. The coffee was amazing too. If I could leave one critique, It's just to put a bit more In your sandwhiches. I had the Tuscan chicken and it tasted amazing, but the chicken was a thin slice. Not super filling.

I had the Herb chicken salad on spicy ciabatta which was..surprisingly bland. I was expecting…read moreseasoned chicken, but perhaps they forgot or were in a rush when making it. The sandwich was at least overflowing and the bread tasty, sort of a cheddar jalapeño bread but..something was definitely missing in the chicken. At least it was reasonably priced at $9.50 but they will nickel and dime for anything else on it. The kids menu is Expensive! For the price of a PB&J, you could buy a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, and a jar of jelly and make 10 of them. I think they tried to price kids items like adult meals. It was crowded at lunch time, some inside seating, looked like more outside. Parking is in a lot nearby but can fill up. Plenty of drinks and such. Kind of an ordinary deli with comparatively good prices for adult meals when held up against other places in the area.

I often shop at a Wegmans store in the Baltimore suburbs, but we don't allow wine or beer sales at grocery stores in Maryland, so this was the first time I had seen a Wegmans wine selection - and I was impressed. Other than not being able to find chives, I found everything on my list for the weekend. Friendly staff, too! It was a nice store - if I lived nearby, I'd be happy to shop here regularly.

Easy enough to park the Sprinter van in their huge lot after taking care not to drive onto the deck area. The verdict? Five stars of "Wow." She was thoroughly impressed and on top of that, we managed to get out of here without a cart full of snacks. But still, so much to browse on here. Sushi, cheese, fresh grab-and-go heat-and-eat food, great wine and beer including a huge section of non-alcoholic options, pizza, fresh deli, a tremendous produce department and a massive butchery with fresh fish. There's just so much here. And Wegmans doesn't cut out on checkout either. Despite the store being rather busy on this Saturday afternoon, there were plenty of registers open and no queue at the self-checkout. Impressive. Getting out was a little bit of a challenge as Village Market feeds into the small mixed-use "village" they have adjacent. A little bit of traffic here but it moved fast enough that it rates only a small mention. This is the one area where they could improve. [Review 1032 of 2025 - 1516 in Virginia - 24586 overall]
