I recently visited Mocatinas in Leesburg, VA for an excellent afternoon tea with my friend and her daughter. Getting afternoon tea together has become an annual holiday tradition with this friend (and some of our other friends), so it was great to continue this tradition at Mocatinas! The cafe is somewhat small, but they still have good seating in there. We made a reservation in advance for the tea experience, and I recommend that you do so if you plan to dine in for tea. They had not yet started their holiday-themed tea, but it was fine as they had some holiday decor (a pink Christmas tree!) already set up, so it felt festive in there. For the tea, we ordered the Strawberry Champagne Oolong. Though it has "champagne" in the name, this isn't alcoholic. It was a very sweet and delicious tea. We also ordered a pot of the Earl Grey Lavender, which was also very delicious! Our afternoon tea experience came with the traditional three-tiered tea stand, with macarons, tea sandwiches (cucumber, etc.), scones, butter, jam pastries, and petit fours. Our tea also came with a pre-course dish comprised of a small grilled cheese pastry and a small tomato soup. Everything was delicious! We had an excellent experience here. After visiting Mocatinas for dessert, my friends and I knew we had to try this place for our yearly high tea/afternoon tea. This place is just stunning...the dining area, stairs with positive messages, the ordering/"shopping", even the bathroom! The service is just exceptional, above and beyond. It was a seameless process to make the reservation online and edit as needed. There were automatic emails and texts for the reservation confirmation and reminder. Each afternoon tea includes 2 pots of tea, 1 macaron/person, and additional bites (savory & sweet). Luckily, there were 2 of us, so we each ordered our own teas. I'm not sure how flexible they are if requesting additional tea pots for larger parties (max 8 people). The weekdays tea is $35/person, weekends $40/person (needs a reservation). There is an 18% gratuity to all the final bill regardless of the number of people in the party. I would highly recommend the Thai tea...I don't add any sugar or cream to my tea and it was still so tasty. I ordered the coconut macaron, which is the newest addition the the macaron family. Parking: there is parallel parking available in front of and around the establishment. There is also a parking garage roughly 1 block (walking distance), which is free on the weekends. If planning a visit on the weekdays, be sure to read the parking signs carefully. I would definitely return to try other items on their menu. read more

We stumbled upon this cute little store while walking in Leesburg. They have ice cream, macaroons and a few other sweets. The ice cream flavors were very unique which was a nice surprise. Towards the back of the store they have a lot of cute toys and accessories for kids. The store is very clean, pretty and well organized. The upstairs is reserved for birthday parties, there was one going on while we were there and it looked so fun! They kept bringing them the cutest trays of desserts and tea. Sitting inside is very limited, only a couple of tables but they also have a patio with more tables and chair and a play house for kids. The ice cream was very yummy and served very cute- with a purple cone and a macaroon! My girls thought this place was awesome. read more

This is where little girls' dreams are made of (and adult women too!) We were lucky enough to be invited to a birthday party (thanks Britt N) in their private upstairs tea room and were charmed off our feet. The place settings were exquisite and my daughter felt so fancy sipping from a delicate china teacup dotted with beautiful flowers. All of the tea cakes, macarons, and other pastries looked just as good as it tasted. As for the adults, we were treated to sparkling wine and a charcuterie board while our littles lived their best life across the hall. Downstairs they had drop-in seating, a beautiful pastry case, sweet shop, ice cream, coffee and so many cute little accessories and toys. We love Mocatinas. It's such a cool shop with novelty/rare candy. On certain days they provide free cotton candy for kids. Their coffee and gelato are really good along with their macaroons. The service is always friendly and speedy. The location does not have much parking so probably best to park in the garage and walk. They changed it now so the upstairs is for private parties leaving the only seating area to a limited number of tables inside but outside there is a nice quiet small courtyard with tables and chairs. Food and tea were okay but overall not worth it. We walked in for the first time and were confused where to go because the counter is around the corner, past the very small tables. We were not even acknowledged when we approached the counter. We tried an elevensies tea because we liked to be able to order whatever we want but the only options for tea food were cucumber sandwiches... each one was very small as well as the pastries and scones being very small, even for a tea shop. Additionally, when you order a pot of tea you're given just the pot and a mug. That's it. No cream, no sugar, not even a spoon! When we asked for sugar we were given the communal sugar pourer which was sticky... ew... there are much better tea places in the area for more bang for your buck, TRUST ME. read more

Came for an afternoon tea with my special people. Parking is rough, not many close spaces so you have to venture over to some public spots. When walking into the place you are greeted by a lavish candy store. The staff was friendly and attended to my check in. We had a reservation and were seated upstairs. The adorable table presentation was enough to wow me! Our servers provided an introduction of what's to come. They came with a carafe of water and promptly took our orders. Our tea service included 2 choices of teas and a super cute display of savory and sweets treats. We were extra hungry so we also added an additional savory item. Went with a friend to check out their afternoon tea (which you need a reservation for) and ended up having what is called Elevenses on the menu - basically a light tea. It includes a pot of tea and your choice of a tea sandwich or mini croissant and scone or macaron. Naturally, we opted for all of the above (at extra cost). The croissant and scone are served warm and so were eaten first. They were delicious but very small - just a couple of bites each. The tea sandwich was cucumber and cream cheese, which was disappointing in its lack of flavor and the dried out state of the bread. The macaron was excellent, you have a choice of anything in the case, so I chose the creme brûlée. The main dining area is upstairs and is beautifully decorated in feminine pinks and pale grey, very Bridgerton! Seating was comfortable and we were able to sit by the window with views up and down the street. Food was brought up and then we were left to relax and chat. We didn't see a server again after that, so it's just as well the tea pot was large. Overall, it's an experience that I would recommend. Next time we will reserve the traditional tea and hope for tastier savories. read more

So my friends and I had afternoon tea here and the food was delicious, the tea was awesome and the staff seemed pretty nice. It's our first time going but we enjoyed the experience. The reason why I didn't give 5 stars was because of the bathroom. They had one bathroom to use, the door didn't lock, and the one dryer to dry your hands didn't work but that wasn't my biggest gripe about it. My biggest pet peeve is going into establishments where I'll be eating and the bathrooms are not cleaned. This bathroom in this store had definitely not been cleaned recently or if had been clean it probably wasn't cleaned well. It smelled of urine ( very musty) the light is dimmed but you could still see some type of brown stuff on the floor and base boards have yellow sprinkling around some of the boards which I could only assume was urine. Besides that issue it was a cute place to get some sweets. read more

We hosted our daughter's 1st birthday here with children guests ranging in age from 2-11 and their parents. Everyone had a wonderful time! The decor is so cute and perfect for tea party/spring vibes. It has a lot of floral elements and such a beautiful pink color palette. We ordered food and drinks for our guests. They enjoyed the flatbreads and quesadillas. We booked the private nook and event room for the macaron decorating activity and ice cream social party for our guests and they all had a lot of fun with this activity. We had a mini cake brought out to sing happy birthday and it was a wonderful time. Lillie, Elise, Reese and Chi were the best! Thank you for a wonderful party! Mocatinas is the place you would find Elle Woods and Barbie having a pink tea and a pink macaroon, of off pink plates, while sitting on pink chairs and surrounded by pink walls. My cousin, her daughter and I got dressed up, (not in pink) and we went to Mocatinas. Wow, this place will be in a movie some day! It is so picturesque! There's flowers around the arch outside! Do you need to ask what kind of flowers? They're pink roses of course! Upon walking inside, there's pink everywhere, the stairs are absolutely adorable! There's motivational pink words on each step! The stairs are decorated with pink garland. There was a variety of pink sparkly nutcrackers. We came here for some macaroons and "afternoon tea". We selected the raspberry champagne tea, and four macaroons. We got the unicorn, creme brûlée, Bavarian and fudge and English Toffee. These macaroons are truly beautiful! They are colorful and so elevated, some are basically ready to come to life. These are made fresh each day. They are $5.00 each. So we took the inspiring stairs upstairs where we could be seated. The room we could go into, was all gray. The other pink rooms were blocked off with the sign "Adults Only". I don't have a problem with gray, but I was a bit confused, what happened to all the pink? Shortly after the waitress came and brought us our goods. Everything was pink, the kettle was pink, the plates, and our teacups were pink. This tea was pretty tasty, it was fruity and light. Unfortunately, there wasn't any honey or sugar anywhere. I would have to go downstairs to ask for some. The macaroons were all very delicious, creamy, fresh and delectable, except for the unicorn, as expected that one was way too sweet. They also offer ice cream, lunch, coffee and some alcoholic drinks. We had a nice time at Mocatinas. It is a bit costly, but it is a novelty place. Today I met a small group of friends at Mocatinas for Afternoon Tea. We meet for tea regularly at various tea shops and hotels in the DMV area. Although Mocatinas looked lovely on the website, it was a bit of a disappointment in person. It's cute but the tea room was not particularly pretty. More importantly, it was very uncomfortable. Our table for 4 was very cramped and the 3-tiered tray was placed on a TV tray next to the table. This was inconvenient & unattractive. A big part of Afternoon Tea is the ambiance and this was disappointing. The menu states that "Our afternoon tea package includes ... your choice of 2 tea flavors from our list of 20-25 different tea selections." We were disappointed to learn that the entire table had to share 2 pots of tea. So, even though we had each ordered the "Afternoon Tea package," we were not allowed to select 2 flavors from list. The food was also disappointing. While some items were tasty, overall the fare was subpar and consisted of mostly "sweets" with very few "savories." The scones, which are a high point of any Afternoon Tea, were mini in size, as we expected from the description on the menu, but we were each given only one. The menu says that Afternoon Tea includes "mini scones" plural. The single little scone was not inedible except that it was not served with clotted cream. To serve scones without clotted cream is a crime against the Duchess of Bedford's legacy! The menu does state that "cream" is served with the Afternoon Tea package, however, not only did I have to ask for it, we were brought a very small sample size for the 4 of us, & we were charged an extra $5 for it. Our server was young and clearly had not been trained to serve Afternoon Tea. Not her fault, though. When the bill arrived, it was considerably more than we had expected. It included a charge for a "Food Establishment Tax" in addition to state tax. I now know that this is a tax which is local to Leesburg. Not the establishment's fault. However, the bill was still unexpectedly high. According to the owner, the price had gone up since we made our reservations. OK, I guess, but the $5 charge for a tiny clotted cream had to go. The owner agreed to adjust the bill, but she was clearly mad. Before she left our table, she did she claimed that the cost Mocatinas' Afternoon Tea was very reasonable and that comparable tea services cost much more. We didn't argue, but our little group has had Afternoon Tea at almost every location that serves it in the DMV, and we do not agree with her assertion. Regardless, although she did not yell or treat us horribly, she was not very gracious while agreeing to adjust the bill and was unconcerned with our enjoyment of the meal. Despite the good reviews of Mocatinas that I see, I cannot recommend it if you are looking for a traditional Afternoon Tea. From the menu: "Our afternoon tea package includes a 3 tiered plate with a mix of cucumber sandwiches, puff pastry, mini scones, petit fours, macarons, jams, cream, plus your choice of 2 tea flavors from our list of 20-25 different tea selections." read more

This place definitely lives up to the hype. I just finished up lunch at a nearby restaurant and took the very short walk here since its right in downtown Leesburg. They definitely have the whole "candyshop" appeal down, and they also had someone making fresh cotton candy! They have these cute stairs (not sure I'd ever say stairs could be cute) that lead up to the dining room and also what looks like a private event space. There was an event going on so I couldn't see the entire place but I did see one room with very cute, girly decor with a rose wall. What stole the show for me was the cookie monster macaroon! It was equally delicious as it was cute. They also have ice cream, shakes, actual food, and more treats. Definitely worth its own trip! read more

Staff was pleasant, the chocolate peanut butter macaroon was delicious and the latte was perfect. If Willy Wonka decided to open an ice cream shop, I feel like the Beta Test would be something like this. * It's not a large place, but what it lacks in size, it makes up In positive energy. * This privately owned business shows its passion in the small room of gifts, and hand made confectioneries that are displayed throughout. * It's frequented by locals, so at any time you will see and hear children on the upstairs floor; so if you aren't a parent or don't want to be around kids, you will need to plan to take your goodies and eat outside. * Owner (husband) was friendly and staff were young a polite .. * if your kids have sticky fingers, you will need to keep an eye on them, as there are a number of colorful, eye catching items loosely laid around and tempting the inner child of adults and youth alike. Don't let the unassuming facade mislead you - behind this simple door is a wonderland of sweets and beauty to please anyone at any age with a sweet tooth. I felt like, well, a kid in a candy store - a very stylish and rich one! It goes well deep inside, and we were amazed by how much they manage to achieve with such a small space, and avoiding any feeling of being crammed in. The plenty of photos of this amazing place should be enough to get anyone who appreciates food as an art as well as a necessity. I have two little girls who are completely in love with Mocatinas. They even made me come back with their dad because they wanted him to experience it! My toddlers loved how everything was pink. From the walls down to the pink tea cups. My 2.5 year old squealed when she saw that the (caffeine free) strawberry kiwi tea was pink! I couldn't be happier with my experience at Mochatinas! I had been researching places within Northern Virginia that serve afternoon tea for my 40th birthday party and when I came across Mochatinas, I was in love. Everything was so beautiful, from their signature shade of pink all over to their delectable-looking treats, to their decor. I booked my party with them and they made it easy to coordinate. I loved that I didn't need many birthday decorations to make the room festive because it was already so beautifully appointed. When I got there, my family received a warm welcome and we headed upstairs to the party after making tea selections. I also ordered an iced coffee that was fantastic. We decided to order charcuterie trays as party appetizers and I'm so glad that we did- they were so cute, adding bowls of chocolate to the cheeses and meats, and everything on the tray was high-quality and delicious. Mouths dropped when the three-tier tea trays came out. I was surprised by how many items were served but even more surprised that EVERY single bite we all tasted was exquisite, and everything was as good as it looked! Included were croissants, warm savory tarts, scones, macarons I had preselected, and amazing desserts. My party and I had such an wonderful time at Mochatinas that we ended up renting out extra time (which I'm grateful we were able to do!). Many guests commented throughout the party that we need to think of other reasons to throw a party there because everything was so perfect. Mochatinas also has space available for afternoon tea (and other offerings) outside of using reserved party rooms. They also have a large selection of fun goods and candies. I had my bridal shower here yesterday, we did an afternoon tea. There was a power outage across Leesburg, and Mocatina's was closed to the public but stayed open just for us so we had the place to ourselves, which I really appreciated because they could have chosen to cancel our event but decided to show up and make the event special for us anyways! They used a back up generator and candle light. The entire place was beautifully decorated, and staff was incredibly kind and attentive despite missing out on a potential day off, I really hope they could tell how much that meant to me because I was able to celebrate being a bride and I felt like a princess the whole time. This location is like every girly girl's dream come to life. The food was absolutely delicious and the tea was amazing, the creme brûlée macaroons were 11/10. My friends and family were very impressed and we took tons of photos. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back to enjoy the rest of what the cafe has to offer! read more

MACARONS ELEVATED TO AN ART FORM. Mocatinas offers a wide range of salted caramels, chocolates, truffles, and hard candies. They also sell quite a bit of ice cream and coffee. But their macarons are the star of the show. They are amazingly creative and playful (e.g. Cookie Monster) andn equally delicious. Definitely the best macarons I've tasted. The upstairs serve as the seating area with reserved private rooms for parties. Moms with their daughters are having mommy and me dates, which was so adorable. My friends and I came in to order some milkshakes from the counter. I got the cookies and creme; it was well blended that there were no chunks of cookies left. I personally like chunks of cookies on my milkshake but I didn't mind it because the atmosphere was joyful, vibrant, and darling! Took my grandchildren in for their first visit and we were totally disappointed. Stepping through the door, my 4 year old grandson son says that the place "smells like poop." I asked the employee and she confirmed that from time to time, the bathroom backs up and causes the store to smell!!! She said that it was unfortunate!!! I couldn't order a thing to eat at this point . Not to completely disappoint my young grandchildren, I suggested they pick out candy and we left after a timely wait to pay. There is no minimum age requirement for unsupervised Tweens who sat quietly and respectfully in the booth In the back of the newly remodeled shoppe. Sadly, your behavior resulted in a last time you will ever get my business. I used to spend a minimum of $30 every time I brought the grandkids to your store. I had to break the bad news that this was their last visit because you think they needed line of sight supervision while I was outside your business looking at cars for the car show. The is no law to suit your perception. I did CPS for over 20 y ears, believe me, I'm well aware of the laws in most states. To satisfy your incorrect perception, I asked the Leesburg PD If there was an obscure municipal code and of course, there is not. Shame on you Monica.
