Was happy to find this Filipino shop and restaurant as I had a hankering for pandesal. It's the only place I know to get it in Palm Beach County and they get a fresh-baked limited supply Saturday's around 11am-12pm. A bag of 12 is around $5. The bread is a little different than I am used to (more compact), but was good and took care of my craving. The employees at the store are nice and friendly. The store is hiding in the strip mall, so you may need to use you phone map to find it. read more

Love this little place. I ordered takeout I was a little disappointed with the BBQ pork. In the past the meat was always flavorful and tender. Now, however, the meat tastes low grade, not as tender. I'll still come to the Kabayan and try other dishes. The halo halo was terrific. read more

A Filipino friend of mine, who is a first rate sushi chef at a local Japanese restaurant, had recommended for me a Filipino market and restaurant called Kabayan Oriental Mart and Restaurant. Being that Filipino restaurants are a rarity in my part of South Florida, I was eager to try it. So, I went there last week for the first time. The restaurant was located in a small, unnoticeable shopping plaza. On the walls were displayed some Filipino bas-relief carvings. The market part of the restaurant contained several shelves full of delicacies imported from the Philippines. There was a variety of snacks and cookies as well as freshly prepared food items. They had home-made desserts such as Filipino flan, or Puto, a flavored steamed rice cake. Once I sat down at my table, I checked out the menu. Unlike some Asian fusion restaurants that carry a smattering of Filipino dishes, this place specialized only in Filipino cuisine. My Filipina food server was very helpful in explaining the menu offerings to me. I started with a Philippine style empanada. Although the crust was okay, the filling was a tasty blend of ground pork, raisins and other flavorings. I also had the Lumpia pork egg rolls. These came out nice and crispy and hot. I then ordered the sizzling Sisig, a dish comprising of pigs ears, pork belly and topped with a raw egg. Once mixed with the hot pork mixture, the egg is cooked. This dish was so delicious, and came with a side of flavorful garlic rice. For dessert, I had the Halo-Halo, a dessert made of purple yam ice cream, shaved ice, condensed milk, candied fruits, diced mango and a few other items. It was delicious and decadent and, from what I know of Filipino cuisine, very authentic. My final dessert was a just-made Turon- a crispy, flaky Lumpia filled with whole sweet plantains. This dessert was fresh and hot and addicting. But their stand-out dessert, which I tried once I got home, was their Sapin-Sapin, a wonderfully tempting happy ending made up of flavored sticky rice, with a layer of purple yam, a layer of yellow jack fruit and a layer of white custard. This attractive dessert was then topped with toasted coconut. Considering that I had never been here before, I was so fascinated by the menu that I plan on returning, despite its distance from my house. There are so many delicious sounding items on the menu that I wish to explore in future visits. As I said, it was not a fancy place, but if you're looking for authentic Filipino cuisine, this is the place to go. read more

I was very excited to try this place because there isn't many Filipino places here in palm beach county. I was a little disappointed. I ordered a pork adobo and rice combo and it was covered in oil and a little slimy. I had to scoop out some oil before I could start eating. Other than that, the workers were very nice. Looks like a family owned business. There's also a little grocery store inside and I was able to get a few snacks. The food was okay, and service was only one man taking orders and a cashier. Perhaps they can not afford to buy real plates and silverware. The ambiance looks like a storage place and is so dark. I come here to get my home cooked Filipino food fix whenever there's none at my mom's house. It's the only Filipino restaurant/store in Palm Beach county that's managed to stay open, due in part to the fact Filipino food isn't mainstream Asian fare so most people don't know how amazing it is. Anywho, it's located in a strip mall and is relatively small. There are booths and tables and you just seat yourself. There's a mini store inside the restaurant where you can pick up Filipino snacks, seasonings, and frozen items. They have great lunch specials and serve breakfast all day (finally!). All the breakfast items consist of a meat, eggs cooked your way, and garlic fried rice. I would recommend getting longganisa (similar to the Spanish sausage but sweet) or tocino (also pork). For lunch...you really can't go wrong, but if it's your first time trying Filipino food, get the pork BBQ, pancit, and letson kawali (fried pork belly). If you like tamarind-based soups, I would also recommend their sinigang. Some foods, like the soups, take longer to cook so it's best to order them 20 mins ahead. If you manage to have room for dessert, get their turon (fried sweet plantain with brown sugar wrapped in egg roll wrapper), it's always crispy and great! Thank me later. read more

We were referred here by some friends from church. We started with some chicken and pork lumpia. They were excellent with a nice crispy wrapper. For dinner we ordered the crispy pata, bbq chicken skewer, bbq fried chicken. Pancid and rice came with all the entrees and were served on one large platter. It made it easy for sharing. The crispy pata was our favorite. The skin was crisp and the fat layer melted in your mouth. The meat was tender and delicious! It was definitely big enough to share for our party of 7 people. Service was fantastic and friendly. The restaurant was very clean as well. For most of us it was our first experience having Filipino food and the was worth the experience. I went in there to order pancit with fried pork and I got beef instead. Everybody in there was nice except for the guy named Steve . I told him I had the wrong order and he told me that what I got is what I ordered , when I showed him it was wrong he said "we're done here , I'm going to reverse the order" I told him I want to keep my food just wanted fried pork instead of beef and he became upset with me because I told him that wasn't fried pork. I always recommend this place but this might just be my last time coming here or I might request to have someone else because of his attitude. read more

I saw the sign from the road and had to give this place a try. Love Philipino food so finding a some hidden in Royal Palm Beach made me want to stop. This is a very simple and pleasant restaurant. They are very welcoming and you can tell that the food will be good. My buddy and I took the opportunity to try as many things as we could since the prices were so reasonable. We started with Lumpia. Basically small Philipino spring rolls. They were good. We had a couple of different breakfast items and they were delicious. We also got a couple of their pre made items to take with us and they were all delicious. I'd definitely go back and would absolutely suggest that you give this place a try. It's worth it. read more

If you have ever read my other pretty scathing reviews of other Filipino restaurants in South Florida, you'd probably be surprised by my rating. I've said it before but I generally do not like going to Filipino restaurants because my mom, Lola, Tita, or even I can usually make the food better. But...I gave Kabayan 4 stars because some of the things on the menu I wouldn't normally make on the regular and yet they had it and their prices and specials were great! First off, their combos include pancit AND rice! WOW. Granted..I wasn't that big of a fan of the pancit. That's still a great deal. I came here with my family and we ordered a lot. Chicken Tinola- a soup based dished cooked with chicken, wedges of chayote, moringa leaves flavored in a broth made with ginger, onions and fish sauce. This was very well prepared and very authentic. Most places cop out and just use spinach but they used the real deal. Don't tell my mom but their's is better ;) Lechon- I mean how can you go wrong with that. Of course it was delicious! Don't forget the Mang Tomas sauce that is on the corner table with all the other sauces Torta- fried eggplant omelette; simple but A+ Fried Galunggong fish (Round Mackarel/Scad)- my favorite fish that is really hard to find, served with the head and tail. Hit the spot! Bangus (Milkfish)- Also served fried with a lot of bones but is good, especially when dipped in a sauce of your own concoction (might I recommend the traditional white vinegar and garlic) Turon- think Fried Banana Eggroll with Caramel...so delicious. This is something that I would never make at home but absolutely love. Mainly why I gave 4 stars. Halo-Halo- literally meaning "mix-mix", which is a mix of red bean, flan, ice cream, gelatin, coconut jelly, etc.. on top of shaved iced and evaporated milk. A common Filipino dessert Overall, I highly recommend. The food came out quick. The service was friendly. They play TFC (The Filipino Channel) in the background and have a convenience store attached where you can buy Filipino products. read more

AMAZING! We googled "lumpia" and this little place popped up. It was amazing!! We showed up and were immediately family. We ordered lumpia of course, and after talking and sampling a few dishes we got the fried rice and the canton - absolutely to die for. I would honestly travel to FL purely to visit Kabayan. Everyone there was like family. They gave us advice on what to order and talked to us like we had lived their our whole lives. The food was indescribable. The lumpia was crispy with delicious sweet chili sauce, the rice was done well and full of flavor, the candies plantains were crisp and melted like butter. We also tried the Halo Halo aka mix mix and that was delicious as well! It was flavorful with deep and complex flavors that don't overwhelm you. This has to be the best place we have visited while in Florida - no doubts. read more

Long overdue review. This restaurant caters to the local Filipino-American community in the Palm Beach County market area. They offer bakery, limited grocery and restaurant services as well as some catering orders. The owner, Steve, is customer-focus and a very pleasant guy to deal with. Importantly, their menu and bakery prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend the Kabayan Restaurant if you crave some hard-to-get 'home-grown' Filipino food and bakery delicacies, and if you've always wanted to taste Filipino food, then this is the place to go and the only game in town! Hands-down, this restaurant needs to probably raise their prices. It is unbelievable, that I got a plate of sisig for 6.99. For the type of traditional food that you were getting, and the fact that it's already hard to find a good Filipino restaurant, this place is too cheap. I googled this place and just sat down during my business trip in the city. Granted that I've never been in West Palm Beach or the area but this place was so welcoming. The owner immediately told me that I should've called her because she could've recommended a better hotel for me to stay. She of course, did not know me at all. They have such a wide variety in their menu that I am surprised that they are able to support that many items, with such low prices. One plate of a double was also less than $10. There is a person complaining about the price, a $14 plate of food is pretty common in a restaurant, let alone a traditional restaurant, I think that's pretty appropriate. They might need an upgrade on aesthetic's but the food was amazing and traditional, reminds me of real Filipino food. A lot of Filipino restaurants don't make it because it is not main stream but this held true to its roots, and did not create a "fusion recipe" which I appreciate greatly. Regarding the food - I had zero complaints. They made the sisig with mayo which I wasn't used to but I ordered a second batch to take home without the mayo and more sili which was amazing. I also had halo halo which reminded me of home. I can't really complain about this restaurant except that it was too cheap, they need to raise their prices so they don't ever close down. read more

Well food was good, server was nice. but the owner? up charged our crispy pata to $14.99 without notice or explanation from the menu price of $12.99. When I returned to dispute, he said "price is right because prices are subject to change without notice" and pointed to the small line at the bottom of the menu and refused to refund. $2 is no big deal but i felt cheated and how owner handled this case was beyond upsetting.
