Great food, nice people! Puerto Rican fare such as lechón, arroz con gandules, batatas, pasteles

My husband placed a DoorDash pickup order from Señor Lechon, and when I arrived to pick it up, I stood in line and gave the employee the name for the already-paid order. He then told me I needed to pay for it again. The confusing part is that the receipt clearly showed the order was already paid for through DoorDash. At that point, I left without the food because I honestly thought something was wrong with the order or payment. My husband had to go back inside himself, tell them it was already paid for, and suddenly they handed him the food with no issue. No verification, no checking anything. So why was I told to pay again in the first place? To make matters worse, I ordered a Tripleta sandwich and instead received what was basically a burrito with fries. Very disappointing experience overall. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I felt compelled to share it. At 67 years old, I can honestly say this was some of the worst food I have ever been served. The service was terrible from start to finish. The servers seemed far more focused on maintenance tasks than taking care of their customers. Our appetizers didn't arrive until after our entrées had already been served, and we were left waiting for utensils even after the food was on the table. We had to ask for them ourselves. As for the food, it was absolutely awful. Everything was dry, bland, and completely lacking in flavor. For a restaurant that advertises itself as Puerto Rican, the food was incredibly disappointing and did not reflect the rich, flavorful cuisine I expected. I was so disgusted by the few bites I managed to eat that I genuinely felt sick to my stomach. Do yourself a favor and choose another restaurant. Don't waste your hard-earned money on this place. It was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had, and I certainly won't be returning. read more

The Lechón sandwich was so good! The bread had that perfect crispy outside and soft inside. The meat was fall apart tender and so flavorful. Super savory. The tres de leche cake was moist and full of flavor. The best I've ever had. I was just visiting but I'll definitely come back here again. Oh, one more thing. The staff was welcoming and friendly. I have to say, the food was absolutely delicious. The ambience felt warm and homey like a welcoming backyard barbecue. I visited on a Saturday with my family, and the smell of the grill mixed with the loud Latin music just made the vibe even better. For appetizers, we had alcapurrias made with masa, crisp tostones that were so fresh and tasty, and empanadas packed with flavor. The mofongo was amazing, and the gravy paired perfectly with it. The chicharrón was so good, and the lechón had a delicious charred flavor that made every bite worth savoring. The service was great as well. I couldn't remember our waitress's name, but she was patient, friendly, and took the time to explain the menu and share recommendations. I have gone there a few times. I really like the ambiance.. inside you see the wall painting and they have an outdoor area with live music. Parking is a nuisance since it's located in a small but busy plaza. Most people park across from the Presidente. The food both times were very disappointing. The food is bland not bold tasting. The waiters were very slow forgetting orders and requests. They can do better. When I can cook better than the restaurant I visit ... I don't want to go back. They have the idea and I want them to thrive, perhaps paying more attention to the cooking than the music would help. Taste your food.. read more

Ugh drove 48 mins here only to be so disappointed. I was so looking forward to this place and although the waitress was attentive and sweet I was quickly taken back by the cold tasteless food I was served. First the yuca was cold and had absolutely no flavor. I checked the menu again bc I was sure it said garlic flavored. It did. Then I ordered the lechon and both my mother and I took one bite of our dish and was greeted with a cold flavorless piece of meet. Ugh!! She took it back to heat up. Ok now it's hot..still no flavor. The rice was extremely dry with over cooked gandules (see photo for reference) they are suppose to be nice and dark green not black and shriveled up. The rice had no flavor. I started to think maybe I'm sick and lost all my senses? But my mother and my daughter both reassured me that their food also had no flavor. My daughter's friend's chicken was the only thing that had a nice garlic flavor. The tostones were good..thank god I had something to dip it into. The salad was shredded lettuce with a slice of a tomato. So boring. Well I can say I tried it. Didn't like it and won't make the hike here ever again. I rather go all the way to Oakland FL 40 mins south of me to La Loca Empanada. Sorry Eddie from Senor Lechon. Maybe try soaking the pernil longer and steam cooking and watch the rice so it's not over cooked. The red beans also were so watered down..where was the sofrito flavor?!! After seeing this location in a few reels and having trouble finding good Puertorican food I knew I had to give them a try. Now when I read the reviews I was a bit concerned and hope that I was going to have a different experience and I'm GLAD I did! I came in on a Friday afternoon for lunch , the restaurant has a few indoor sitting and several outdoor where the smoker is. Restaurant was clean the ladies that helped me were very attentive and serviceable. There was no wait to order and I was helped immediately. My food took about 30min to Come out. Absolutely everything I had was delicious. We started with the sorullitos which were sweet and crispy. The bacalaitos were also crispy and delicious. The order of chicharrón was huge with big chunks of seasoned pork with a good amount of fat vs meat. We ordered 2 alcapurrias masa and yucca and they were both good but we enjoyed the masa one better. And a plate for arroz con gandules , pernil and yucca. The pernil was super seasoned and I loved it! The wife was really good as well. I would recommend to try and I will definitely be back. read more

I can't really rate the food but I am rating the service. We went to eat on a Sunday and the restaurant was extremely busy. No seats available but when we got one, we sat down and not one employee acknowledged us. They kept on walking by us, did not even offer us water. After around 45 minutes of waiting we got up and left, no one even noticed. I was really excited to try the Puerto Rican food here and left disappointed. I wish I could give a better review. Service staff are great. Food unfortunately is mediocre. My recommendation to the owner/chef: 1. Your rice con gandules is bland you need to add more seasoning, sofrito/garlic, etc. are the key ingredients to all Puerto Rican dishes. 2. Pasteles, somewhat bland as well need more seasoning 3. Alcapurrias should be fried when ordered, rather wait than get a soggy/greasy alcapurria that has been sitting on the warmer. Please note, my comments are for the the improvement of your business. It was ok for me, overall overpriced. The waitress was kind, the place was ok. We ordered bacalaitos, pasteles and a plate with lechon and moro de guandules. We also placed an order of chicharrones to go which I think was overpriced. Come to find it was a small portion for $15.00 and mostly fat! We were not too impressed and got charged a delivery fee for eating there :( read more

The food was amazing! We were unsure of what to serve at our grandson's party. After finding this place through a Google search, we decided to try the food. It was so good that we ended up placing a catering order, even though the party was only two days away. Mr. Eduardo Garcia, the chef, was very nice and accommodated our request. We waited for over an hour for our food (it seemed like others in the restaurant were also waiting for that long) and when we finally got our food half of the food we got was cold! Then they said the chicken we ordered was still on its way and we didn't get that until after we were all done eating! The only reason I didn't give 1 star was because some of the food was good, like the arroz con gandules and the pork was pretty good (even though it was cold when we got it). I will also say that, unlike the instagram video we saw online, this place is NOT cooking pigs over coal pits behind the restaurant. It would have probably tasted a better if they were doing that, but I think this pork is just baked in an oven. Anyways, if they could get their kitchen operations in order this could be a good restaurant, but I can't recommend it unless you're a masochist who likes waiting for an hour for cold food. read more

Our usual to go place was sold and is no longer what it used to be. But, we heard of this place and decided to try it out. The ambience was relaxing and they made us feel like we were home. I had the mofongo with Lechon which was a bit dry although well seasoned. My husband had the chicken which was "out of this world" I tasted it too and agree. We also tried the bacalaitos (a type of cod fish fritters) which lacked pieces of actual bacalao but, was very tasty. And we tried the alcapurrias which were "alright". We arrived at 3pm, they were out of chicken, they were out of sorullos. I ordered the pork chop clearly listed with 2 sides and were denied the side claiming that particular plate comes with 1. The fee that restaurants pay to the bank gets passed to customers as well, they charge a 4% administrative fee on top of the tip.
