I had reservations about this place because I have been four times & EVERY time it was EMPTY. Me being too lazy to shampoo my own hair, always just got a blow out (which by the way Kabelly hiked up the price & charged me $95 for a blowout!) She claimed it was because my hair was natural. Since i didn't like waiting other places, I paid it anyway. Yesterday I went & I decided I wanted my roots...JUST MY ROOTS touched up, since my color had grown out. Kabelly was not there, so her mother called her. I got on the phone with Kabelly & she assured me that her mom knew what to do. Her mom told me to have a seat while she prepared the color. Long story short she over processed my hair. The doubled back & reapplied more bleach(color) to my hair. I had Kabelly's mom telephone Kabelly. Kabelly came to the salon & attempted to apply cellophane to darken the color. I looked like an Albino! It was hideous! Kabelly still charged me & offered no discount at all! Her husband who is a manager refused to give me a refund. A few days later my hair began to come out in clumps. NATURAL Hair BEWARE. I have soooo much heat damage it's crazy. Called them about it and their reply was we don't do heat damage. I'm natural I don't put heat on my hair at all not even to get my hair cut (curly cut) the lady tells me that's not possible . I haven't even gotten my hair done by anyone since their appointment and haven't put any heat on it myself. So it had to be this salon. The older lady with the blonde hair did it. The services were over priced and I tipped, all to have my hair damage and need to cut a lot of it off. Also their policy is they can't fix anything after 4 days from when you received the service. This would make it impossible for me because to find heat damage I needed to wash my hair who would wash their hair 4 days after getting a wash and set. SMH Please think twice before coming to this salon with natural hair. read more

Staff was very pleasant, even on the phone which is very rare! I appreciated my answers being answered on the phone prior to coming into the salon. Most places give you an estimate and tell you to come in to discuss pricing. No surprises at the register. Only problem I encountered was try wifi wasn't working and took a while to check out. Could be a potential problem if it was packed. I'll update my rating once I try it again. Bonus, I left with my hair pinned up which was not extra, surprisingly. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE NATURAL HAIR!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT!!!! My fiancé has been natural for the last 5 years. We were going out a few weeks ago and she wanted a quick blow out to get her hair straightened. So she found a Dominican salon close to our house. She found this GOD AWFUL place and got her hair blown out and was satisfied. Fast forward 2 weeks later, she washes her hair for the first time since going there and her hair is rinsing out pink and her hair is thin, lifeless, and FALLING OUT! We go to the salon to confront them and inquire about the products the used. They have a MAN in the front that knows absolutely nothing about AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN HAIR, trying to tell my lady that it's her fault and she must have done something to make it come out. The actual owner of the salon refused to answer our calls or even come to the establishment to discuss the issue. The police were even called. All we wanted was them to acknowledge the fact that something they put in my fiancés hair has caused the texture to change permanently. They refused to even acknowledge that. They argued and deflected the entire time. We just wanted a refund and an apology. They refused. TERRIBLE BUSINESS TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT TERRIBLE OWNER IF I COULD GIVE THIS NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD We will be following up with the better business bureau and we will look into potential legal action against this establishment. 5 years of natural hair gone due to their unethical business practices. Great service from Kabelly! I got a blow out a few weeks ago but waited to do my review until after I washed my hair. I have natural hair so I was hesitant to go to Kabelly after reading some of the reviews. I asked Kabelly (the stylist/ owner) about concerns from the reviews specifically about relaxer in the conditioner. She customized my conditioner to my dry scalp issues and showed me each product she used and had me mix it myself. Unless she did a magic trick, there was no relaxer used. My curl pattern when back to normal. The only down fall is that they are a bit pricey, I paid $75 for wash/set, flat iron, and deep conditioner. Usually I pay $45-$55 for a Dominican salon, but I didn't mind because I loved my hair and the service! I will be returning! read more

I have been a client of Kabelly for 10 years. I followed her from her previous salons because of her hair styling skills. Kabelly helped me transition from relaxer to natural and I have been relaxer free for 10 years. My hair is beautiful silky and healthy. I get LOADS of compliments on my hair each and every time I go to her. Folks, these comments on here about her putting relaxer in her conditioner is pure nonsense for two reasons. First because water deactivates the active ingredient of a relaxer. Putting it in a conditioner or shampoo would provide NO BENEFIT. Second, it is unethical and illegal for a stylist to put chemicals in your hair without your consent. Kabelly goes out of her way to educate her client about the benefits of being natural. This is nothing but a bunch of petty disgruntled stylist at other shops that are trying to sabotage her business, as well as people who make it their business to sue multiple salons. My go to salon! When I need a blow out, I am usually in and out in under 60 minutes. When hey are busy, 90-minutes. Today however, I received a scalp treatment with deep conditioner, because I had just taken braids out (my protective style). I love the scalp treatment. The staff is great, and the place is very wholesome and family oriented. I have natural hair which has been chemical free for about 3 years. Kaybelly uses natural, quality products which help keep my hair healthy and chemical free. I really would like to give no stars. I am happy to know that I am not the only person. When I went to wash my hair, all of my hair fell out and to make it worst when I went back to the salon the owner tried to tell me it was heat damage. No, she is a liar....they go to the back for the "deep conditioner" and come back with some concoction. I have been natural for over 10 years and after I washed my hair it went bone straight and fell out all over. It really makes me upset that at the time I was pregnant and without my permission they used chemicals on my hair. read more

I've had my hair done at a Dominican salon before in DC and surprisingly the prices were cheaper in DC. I know that the technique of high heat can be damaging to my hair so I only go once every 6/7 months. Overall I'm very pleased with services here. read more

My got to spot every week! I have been going to Kabelly's since September 2015. Her mother Marcia does my hair and she is fantastic! I originally was looking for a salon closer to home and wanted to get a relaxer but Kabelly encouraged me to try and go natural. I have been getting weekly deep conditioning treatments and I am about 65-70% of the way natural ( not ready to do the big chop). My last relaxer was May 2015. My hair is in great shape and I have not experienced any breakage at the line of demarcation or split ends. At first I was concerned about the heat ( roller set, blow dry then flat iron) weekly but I have not experience any issues. I think that's because I get the deep conditioning every week and a trim every 4weeks. The atmosphere is welcoming and the shampoo ladies are the best. Although they are nice they are not straightforward with pricing. I had been to this salon at least 4 times and always had the same thing done, a perm and wash and set. With any additional services such as deep conditioner I never paid more than $100. That is up until this last visit. I go to pay and all of a sudden they say I owe $175. Why? Because my hair got longer and I have alot of hair. Im like what? I never paid that much for a perm and wash and set and I get the same thing done every time I come! They continue to insist that its more and thats what I owe. I was shocked. Not at one point did they mention it would be more, so essentially they charge whatever they feel like once you get to the counter. There was no compromise by the owner or acknowledgement of lack of communication. Its one thing if its just a little bit more but I ended up paying almost double what I normally pay beacuse my hair is now shoulder length. Ridiculous. That was my last time going there and I suggest if you choose to give them your business to ask for ALL prices up front or they will charge you whatever they feel like. read more

This used to be my go to place but I will never return here again. The prices are not consistent at all. And a chemical was definitely used in my hair!! This is not a fake review. I am a REAL former customer. I read the other reviews and was apprehensive about letting this salon wash my hair. I allowed them to wash and style it. Three weeks later, I washed my hair at home and could smell a chemical in my hair. And my hair was shedding! I had been natural since 2007. Now my natural curl pattern is ruined. Kabelly: stop sneaking chemicals in your clients hair! It's illegal! Your clientele is African-American. Our hair is thick and beautiful. Stop putting chemicals in to make it straighter!! I have been going to Dominicans hair salons since I was 8 years old and my hair is natural: no chemicals, so my hair was healthy and strong up to the time I enter this salon and let them touch my hair. Beware of this place, I had mid-back hair length hair (20 inches), I ask for straight hairstyle with a part in the middle. As soon they was done, I knew something was not right the room smelled smoke, like something was brunt ( My hair of course) they keep saying that's just the smoke from the heat... A couple of days later my hair was extremely dry and smelled burnt still, when I washed it two weeks later it still had smelled burnt and it was coming out in chunks... I had to continuously deep condition, oil, massage, and cut my hair an 1-2 inches off each month for a year until all of my hair damaged hair was gone for 1 year from early of 2016. ( I wasn't prepared to do a big chop). Now my hair is healthy and strong past my shoulders. I will never go back to that place ever gain nor recommend them to no one, not sure about the products they use, however, they over use their blow dryer extremely high setting which cause my hair to get burnt off in the first place...Again beware of this salon, it will be at your own risk... read more

if i could give this place negative stars i would. if you have natural hair this is not the place for you. they add relaxer to their shampoo/conditioner (the bottle that has no label on it) and use it on your hair without your knowledge. i have been natural for about 9 years. since going natural, my hair has been extremely healthy (my curl pattern was a 3c and my hair reaches down my back right at my mid spine). ever since my first and last visit here, i've washed/conditioned my hair several times and my hair texture has changed drastically, my hair breaks in chunks, and my curl pattern is no more....i actually have un-relaxed new growth!!!!!! thanks to kabelly dominican salon i have to start this process all over again. they are deceptive in their practices. stay away if you are natural...stay away!!!!!!! read more

I went for a blow out three weeks ago, I also got a treatment and a trim. My cost came up to $100. I loved my hair, was beautiful. It lasted about two weeks. I finally washed my hair two weeks later and my hair came out in clumps. I started to cry. The texture was weird no longer natural curly texture it was like a perm thin and fragile. I still was optimistic thinking that perhaps I'd wait one more week and another wash would do the trick. Usually when I get blow outs, once I my hair gets wet, my texture returns right away. Anyway, I washed again today and my hair is falling out so bad and texture is definitely not the same. I have no idea what products they used but I'm very disappointed. I have to be honest, I was afraid to go to Kabelly's due to the bad reviews, but I'm so happy that I went anyway because its's close to my house. They provided great customer service and I explained my concerns due to the reviews and they reassured me that there were no chemicals in their shampoo. I also did not feel any tingling on my scalp while she massaged it and it smelt like shampoo. I was actually very pleased with the entire process and experience there. I called the place before I went to ask the prices, they told me $20 for the haircut if I had washed hair. So it seemed like a good price. Went there, empty place, bad music... again asked the price, they showed me the price table, so far everything ok. Kabelly starts cutting, I tell her I want it up to my shoulder. Then she turns me around so I am not facing the mirror, she starts cutting, my previous haircut had layers in the front and back, but since it was going to be shorter I tell her to do straight back and keep front layers. Hair was a little humid when she finished, since I was in a little of a rush I didn't get the blow drier style. It looked short but ok because it was still humid...I go to pay and surprise! They charge me $15 extra! Just for trimming a little on the front! And then of course had to give tip...so at the end I spent $40 for a haircut that was really worth $20....same style you can get at the haircuttery, but there for 20 shampoo is included....imagine if I got shampoo and style at kabellys....I would have payed almost $100! Warning: Kabelly Dominican Hair Salon Did you ever wonder how they get your natural hair so silky straight with the blow dryer? Some of them add a little relaxer to their shampoo and conditioner! I found out first hand. I had very healthy natural hair that came to my shoulder blades. A new Dominican salon opened by my house and because of the convenience I got my hair done there every single Friday for four months. Slowly I started realizing my hair was breaking off and it didn't appear as thick and healthy. So I stopped going. When I went back to my old stylist she kept asking if I had gotten a relaxer and I always said 'Of course not' but we both could see that when my hair was wet it looked straight. Just like relaxed hair. One of the other clients in the salon interrupted our discussion one day and asked me if I used to go to the Dominicans to get my hair done and I explained about the four months I went there. She explained that her sister worked as a shampoo girl at a Dominican salon for two years and advised her that they put a little relaxer in those no label jars of shampoo and conditioner.
