I stumbled across this place, looking for a place to eat off of Route 1. I was pleasantly surprised. Their lunch buffet, while not extensive, hit the spot. For $6.99, you get hot buttered naan bread (literally right out of the oven), rice, butter chicken, spicy samosas (too spicy for me, but I loved them mashed up potato fillings!), delicious lentils (I go out of town with that with the naan), chickpeas, and other specialty dishes they have for that day. You can also get a little styrofoam cup of salad if you request it. Cans of sodas are an extra, and there's plenty of parking in the plaza lot. Owners are a delight. Chicken kabob boneless had a strange odor that I couldn't get past. Can't describe it but maybe the chicken was bad. The chickpeas were on point. If the chicken didn't ruin my experience, I'd probably enjoy my meal. Like other reviewers overall upkeep is needed in the bathroom. We wanted to love this place, but we did not. The couple who owns it are nice, but the food was just so-so and the bathrooms felt like they needed to be scrubbed. All of the food in the buffet looked like it was oozing with oil once it was on our plates. The tandoori chicken tasted and felt super dry in our mouths. We should have walked out. Turned 180 degrees, and headed straight through the door from which we came. Though the butter chicken and white rice were somewhat edible, there were several reasons I will never return to this Indian Cuisine. Among these were the poorly trained staff, the grimy plastic dishes and silverware, the greasy puddles in the food, the dark, cobweb-infested restrooms, and the roaches in the corner. Never have I or my family been so disappointed by an eatery. We stayed and ate out of pity, but now our stomachs regret the decision immensely. I must say there are very few places where food taker or cashiers go out of there way to serve there customers. This place is has EXCELLENT customer service. So I've been craving Indian food and I saw this over the summer and the sign said buffet so I decided to try it out today no one was in very friendly owners $15 for buffet and mango lassi. I came at the end of the lunch service so there was a limited about of food left but it was enough and what was there was just DELISH!!! why one star it is a hole in the wall not clean you can see all the finger prints on the glass door some tables had not been cleaned the ladies bathroom was not really clean the door had a lot of black scuffs and dirty hand prints nothing that bleach and water can't fix so why eat there never judge a book by its cover. I was not at all disappointed by this place. We walked in off the street, looking for an alternative to Denny's and KFC. And we found it. Lovely people running this restaurant, And a buffet that, while by no means the best Pakistani food I've ever had, was more than serviceable for nine dollars a person. Granted, this place was a little dirty around the corners, but then again, some of the most authentic south Asian food I've had came out of kitchens that looked similar to this one. This was the worst food experience I've had since moving to the area, and without a doubt the worst $20 I've ever spent. The first problem was that we waited approximately fifty (50) minutes for our carryout order. Little did we know that this would be the least upsetting aspect of our experience. Our order consisted of three dishes: "Chicken karahi," "saag paneer," and "chicken sikh kabob." The "chicken" of the "chicken karahi" was primarily bone, gristle, and skin, and contained very little actual meat. It was hot, but flavorless. The paneer in what was purportedly "saag paneer" was oddly melty - almost as though they just used a slice of provolone. It was not paneer. The chicken sikh kabob was perhaps the "winner" of the night, though given the circumstances this is hardly high praise. Much like the "chicken" karahi, this dish was spicy yet flavorless. However, unlike the karahi, I was fairly certain that the kabob was at least partially composed of chicken. Notable quotes: "That naan is NOT 'passable.' I take umbrage with your assertion." The food was OKAY, The place is VERY overpriced. I particularly enjoyed the overpriced $3 Chicken kebabs. We ordered several naan, when we received our food, I wasn't sure if it was a naan or a roti. Also, don't go there hungry because it takes them some time to chase after the chicken and slaughter it. Or at least that's what I thought they were doing because it felt like half an eternity getting our food. The chicken Tikka we ordered was rubbery and a tad undercooked. Their butter chicken sauce was pretty good. I can't tell you how the butter chicken was because we ordered 2 butter chicken dishes and There wasn't enough chicken for us to eat. But there was plenty of sauce to go around to feed an army. Chicken Karai had good seasoning and flavor as weOverall, quality of the food was OKAY, which is why they get 2 stars. The wait time was horrendous. The service was Terrible, but that's because they're very understaffed (only 2 people working) and we were the only ones in the restaurant (there were several of us). This place I would put nearly on par with Crystal city Kabab Palace but it's closer to home for carry out purposes ;-) and it's a tad cheaper. Some of their entrees outside of the Kabab spectrum I think are better. Tawa fried Keema is very nice and doesn't hold any flavor or spice back. Peshwari cahppli is also good. I've never been able to get the Lahori fried fish - always "sold out" when I order. To go orders take about 20 minutes, so it's best to call ahead unless you want to catch up on some TV news on the big screen in the restaurant. PS - Samosas good also. read more

If you're south of Route 1 and you want kebabs, this is pretty much your only choice. The Bread and Kabob place near Belvoir closed (replaced by an African restaurant) as did Sultan Kabob in Old Town. I tend to prefer Moby Dick, but the one in Franconia can be a pain to get to. I tried this place about a year ago and wasn't impressed by anything except the price. The menu was all over the place; a mix of Indian curries and Paki kabobs and burgers and hotdogs(?!). The service was ridiculously slow; half-an-hour for carryout. The guy running the kitchen seemed to be doing everything. His "help" was either clueless or just lazy. I took to calling the place "Stoner Kabob" because half the staff seemed totally high. I think either the place switched owners or they got their act together because I tried it recently and like it a lot. They've trimmed their menu down substantially: lamb/beef/chicken kabobs, naans, samosas, sides. They also serve some nice smelling sweets. They have an all-day buffet which is a good deal if you want to bulk up on the cheap. The interior is pretty bare bones: about 8 tables, a cooler for sodas, and al Jazeera on the widescreen. The place is halal if that's an issue; my experience has been that halal places usually are conspicuously cleaner than the run of the mill kebab shop. My visit to the restroom bears this out. You wouldn't mind sitting down for a meal here, but it's not a real destination lets-linger-over-expensive-drinks date place like Lebanese Taverna. And I've never seen more than one or two people at this place. It's pretty isolated in a little mall that you can barely see from the main drag. I ordered a $10 Kabob Sampler that included tandoori chicken, lamb, and Sikh kebab; seasoned rice; spicy chickpeas; a small salad; and naan. A ton of food. The salad exists for the sole purpose of cleaning your palate between bites of kebab. The rice is loaded with carmelized onions, so if they give you gas, you should pass. On the rice I mean, not the gas. The lamb was a bit gristly (but I like gristly) and a bit bland. I was suprised the tandoori chicken was so flavorful. Usually breast meat is pretty dry, but not here. They occasionally have bone-in thigh meat which is really juicy. The chickpeas had a good level of aromatics, spices, and heat. This is not dumbed-down, mild flavored food. The real hit was the Sikh kebab, a well-seasoned mix of ground beef, spices, and fresh herbs. The grind was pretty coarse, so it wasn't the usual fine grind hamburger beef texture. I tried to order some samosas, but the cashier guy showed me the two that were left and said he was going to toss them out, so bonus points for him not trying to unload past-its-prime food. Instead, he gave me a complimentary side of some sort of cinammon-clove-pumpkin dish that had the consistency of firm grits but had a nice mild sweet flavor. No idea what it was but it was pretty tasty. Looking forward to trying their lentils and okra. On a stretch of Route 1 where your ethnic cuisine choices are limited, Kebab and Curry House is a fine addition to La Mexicana Bakery (tacos) and Tacos El Costalilla (sopes). It's also the only game in town when it comes to kebabs. read more

They keep switching up on management. I've known this place for more than 5 years now i dont eat here anymore, but my parents do rarley. First they need to refurnish, redecorate and redo everything. From the food to the staff. If you're looking for nutritional pakistani food dont come here. Their kitchen in the back is filthy and needs a major touch up. They use canola oil for cooking, (thumbs down) Really expensive, bakery section sometimes looks like they don't replace it for a while. Worst place ever!!! I called and asked for chicken tikamasada and when I arrived no one was there to serve me. I saw a lady sitting watching TV and asked if she worked there. She said no. This place is now under new management and I am very disappointed with the changes. We have always been a great customer (large orders) and the previous owners were always so gracious and kind and always slipped a sweet treat in the order or gave us some free sides. I was out shopping and needed to get dinner, but don't eat meat so I avoid fast food joints. I used yelp and found this place. I was not impressed. The food was ok at best. Everything was spicier than usual except for the lentils which seemed to be lacking in flavor all together. The bread was good though, so that helped. Personally, I think the negative reviews might be a bit outdated and probably overly critical. I regularly pop in here for the buffet and always leave totally satisfied. I really like the fresh out of the oven naan and especially enjoy the chickpeas. There aren't a ton of options in the buffet but there is enough variety of meats and veggies to please my taste buds. I would categorize this restaurant as another Route 1 surprise and would recommend the buffet to anyone who is looking for a filling, reasonably priced meal. The food is presented in a buffet style and the diner picks from the main courses, sides, and bread. Priced at about $12/ meal this Restaurant is suitable for dine in and takeout and is highly recommended for a quick, reasonably priced, tasty meal. Even though the food was laid out in a buffet all the choices were well cooked. The bread seemed to be prepared in the finished state on a "to order" basis and was soft and hot. As much as I like to support small family owned restaurants, giving two stars is being generous. The food here is of blatantly low quality, especially the buffet which is almost never fresh. This might have been fine if the prices were fitting, but paying at least $9.00 for tandoori which tastes two days old is not acceptable. Giving this place an honest review! It has changed management maybe 3 or more in the past few years. Here there are some pros and cons. To save money, always choose the buffet. The buffet is $8.99 and kids are half off! For carry-out, it is $6.99 per pound. 1 plate of food is well over one pound and you get naan. Any naan is amazing naan. Now onto my experience. So I came here for the dinner buffet. There was brain, chicken curry, tandoori chicken, chickpea curry, pakora, samosa, and rice. The pakora and samosa were not good at all. They were cold and stale, but the employee insisted they were fresh. The brain, sampled by my mother, said it tasted good and was a pleasant surprise. I tried the tandoori chicken, which was overly salty. It didn't taste alright to me, so I stopped after my first bite there. What I loved was the chickpea curry and chicken curry. This place is known for those two items. If there is butter chicken, try it. It's also good. The rice wasn't good because it was undercooked, even though it got replaced 3 times. They also don't give fresh water. They store them in dirty pitchers in the cooler. Lastly is the shemai, which is the dessert we had that is vermicelli noodles with a custard sauce. Normally it's supposed to be cold, but it was piping hot so it was odd. Though this place is enticing because of the price, the selections and the ambiance quality are limited. The employees also watch you as you eat, which is kind of creepy. But it's way better than the rude mom and daughter duo that ran this establishment before. Come here at your own discretion and try the food out for yourself. I have mixed reviews just because of the quality, ambiance, and limited selections. I wish there was a negative star available to give this filthy restaurant. It's a disgrace to Pakistani and Indian cuisine. Restaurant is FILTHY. For the buffet they have styrofoam plates. Food is very bad. It is not tasteless but it has very bad taste. You will need to eat something else after you eat in this restaurant to get your tastebuds back. The buffet is tasty and reasonably priced. The bakery section (not included with buffet) is delicious! It's a little difficult to find Middle Eastern/Pakistani sweets along this swath of the Route 1 corridor, but this restaurant has a good variety of honey- and pistachio-laden delicacies. I read the previous reviews, but did see they were dated and one mentioned they were decent, so I decided to be optimistic. After arriving, there was a "Under new management" sign, so I had mediocre hopes (plus we were craving Indian). After we looked at the food, we should have turned tail and ran, but we were there and hungry. I have a wheat allergy, and asked if one of the dishes was made with flour. The worker didn't know, but suggested I try some to see if I can tell... Aside from that, I can honestly say this was probably the worst restaurant I've eaten. Not only did the food taste bland and over cooked, but it was very oily. Everything seemed as it had been reheated several times over, and I got the impression that they probably just save and reuse there food (there were no customers during lunch on a Saturday)! One of the meats was goat feet (hooves) that had soaked in a bland, greasy curry dish - no other meet chunks, just whole feet. While eating the bad food, I started noticing how dirty everything was, and was actually wondering how they passed inspections. As we were leaving, the cook came out for his break. Not only was he dirty, but he was wearing open saddles with bare feet - which he let free in the dining area so we could all see his nasty feet. My wife thinks (half jokingly) that the restaurant is just some cover for some other operation because there is no way it could be that bad! Don't believe the haters, the food here is full of flavor. If you like bland, dull food, don't come here. OTOH, if you want a taste of South Asia and can't quite make it there at the moment, stop by and help yourself to the all-you-can eat buffet, the spices and time lovingly spent preparing the dishes at this authentic, mom-and-pop joint will leave you wanting more. It's the kind of place that has South Asian soap operas playing on the big-screen TV and South Asian men and women wandering in and out all day long getting a taste of home and maybe picking up an Urdu newspaper. Trust me, the food here is good. And it's a really good deal, you can get a couple of sodas and two all-you-can eat entrees for about twenty dollars, it makes for a nice dinner date if you want to eat well, want something with a foreign flavor and are on a low budget; it's popular with families, too, khuda hafiz :). read more
