This is my benchmark for all Lebanese/Middle Eastern restaurants. There is just so much flavor in all of the dishes I have had and I cannot say that for the other similar restaurants in the area, and there are a lot! Favorites are the deboned chicken, shwarma sandwiches, hummus, fatoosh salads and garlic sauce. As in they will see you standing at the register and begin sweeping the floor, another waitress will come along and ask the sweeper to take care of you, she will reply that she's sorry she thought you had been helped, then she will proceed to finish sweeping the entire floor. She answered a phone call, asked the person if they would like to include a tip on their credit card order, then got off the phone and loudly complained about them saying no. Out of a whim, I went and visited SKH on a dreary rainy afternoon. I thought I would like to try another Mediterranean restaurant nearby. Since it is, as has been mentioned by fellow Yelpers, oddly located at the end of small "strip" right beside a gas station, I decided to just park at the part-restaurant, part-gas station parking lot on the side of the building. When I got in, the first thing I noticed was the kitschy decor complete with faux Greek/Roman columns and walls (see first photo -- and NO, I did NOT take that photo) reminiscent of another Mediterranean restaurant I often visit across the river in Windsor. I don't know about anybody else but I find it helpful NOT to look at it when I am eating. It took only a few minutes for a server to come and take my order. Since I know that I will be writing about this experience for other Yelpers, I decided to do an apples-to-apples comparison and thus ordered their Chicken Shawarma with Lentil soup. The food took a little longer than I anticipated but not long enough for this very impatient man to complain. First came your usual flat bread (I was told NOT to call it PITA!). It was NOT freshly cooked like the ones at Oasis BUT their garlic sauce is MUCH CREAMIER AND TASTIER! If I can take out JUST the garlic sauce to pair it with fresh, out-of-the-oven flat bread, I DEFINITELY would! The lentil soup arrived next. It was sub-par in my opinion but then again, I am not one to regularly order Lentil Soup. Let's just say that in two or three other times I HAVE ordered it some place else, my soup was better than this one. If Campbell's made Lentil Soup in a can and you heat it up in the microwave, THIS would be it! My expectation for the rest of my meal is significantly taking a nose dive. My Chicken Shawarma finally came. It does NOT look like the usual chicken shawarma I order someplace else. This looks like -- and apparently IS -- a WHOLE breast of chicken cut into strips albeit flavored and spiced... WONDERFULLY! I'll be darn, looks CAN be deceiving! When I tasted a spoonful of the accompanying rice though, it was not cooked right -- either it was old reheated rice or it needed some more time to cook. Either way the few almond "sprinklings" were not enough to mask its hard texture. Still, even through this roller-coaster experience, I think I will come back if only to taste the BEST garlic sauce I have tasted to date! I think I will even have the Chicken Shawarma again but this time, sans Lentil Soup, and hopefully, better cooked rice. Once last thing: I think they need to take out the SUPER in their name. I believe in letting your customers ADD it after they have a consistent "super" experience with food and service. Edit: April 05, 2015 I JUST added another star to my review I'd this place. Went to the Kabob house to get some food, one of the places I love before the pandemic. Young guy running the business not wearing a mask and yelling at the staff in the back, still with no mask on. Talking on the phone with customers with a no mask on. Talking to customers with no mask on. They also have a sign saying you must wear a mask but are not following the governor's order in the restaurant or with the public. Unfortunately I will have to find another Mediterranean restaurant or ask a friend to make it for me. Can't take any chances with COVID19 since I am part of the vulnerable population. 6/11/19 Today I decided to attend lunch with a few coworkers at Kabob house on Van Dyke road south of 12 mile. Service was awful!! My salad came but my food never made it to my table. The waitress only appeared at the end of everyone else finishing up their meals. I told her I never received my food and she charged me $5 for a side salad. It's probably because they are so busy, being that close to the Tech Center. I had an awful carryout experience here. I placed an order for a chicken entree and the house maza appetizer around 6:15PM. They said it would be about 25 minutes. I get to the restaurant at 6:45 to pick up my order and there is a huge line of customers waiting to pay their bills or pick up a carry out. The staff up front seemed overwhelmed. I finally get to the counter and she tells me the appetizer portion is ready but they are waiting on the chicken entree. No problem, I dont mind waiting a little longer. 20 minutes passes and I still dont have my food. I ask for an update and the woman goes to the kitchen to check. She says they are cooking the chicken right now and its just about done. I waited another 10 minutes and I finally was presented with a bag that had 4 boxes in it. I asked if everything was in there and she said "yes you can check if you want to". I wish I did because when I got home I realized they forgot the tabouli salad that comes with the appetizer plate. I called to tell them and she said "oh yes its right here on the counter. Wow you waited all that time and we forgot your salad..." so I send my sister back to the restaurant to get the tabouli and another chicken entree she wanted. She returns and they did not include any dressing for the salad!! My other sister called back and asked to speak to a manager and they brushed her off. Finally at the end of the call the manager said to come back for a free salad. Lol ok no I wouldn't go back even if you paid me, the service is awful, no one is on the same page there, the only positive thing I can say is that the food is good. But absolutely not worth the amount of time I waited or for the service received. We usually order the Kabob House Special for 2 , and carry-out. This combo will feed 4, no problem. Includes beef and chicken shawarma, choice of salad (we always get tabouli), rice, chicken and beef kafta, falafel, hummus, fried kibbee, grape leaves and beef kabobs with grilled vegetables. It also comes with plenty of pita bread. They package the hots in a half-pan, and the colds in styrofoam boxes. The cold foods are crisp and fresh, and the hot foods all blend together nicely in the tray/pan. When you dine-in they bring complimentary 'hot bread' to your table. Where can I start about this place. One of the great middle eastern restaurant. The best grilled chicken you even taste is right here at the Kabob House. Their chicken is always cooked perfect and it's so tender. My favourite dish there is the deboned chicken either the regular or bbq both are just phenomenal. Among the mountain of kabob shops in metro Detroit, this is my pick for best . In-house baked bread served with flavorful garlic sauce accompanies every meal. In most kabob restaurants it's easy to spot the tawook (chunks of chicken in my picture) were par-cooked then heated for service but here the freshness is unquestionable. The profinsal sauce might be my favorite thing in any restaurant, it combines lemon and multiple herbs to add zest to the meall.
