Warm, welcoming, and delicious! Kabul Corner is a special place. The friendly staff and cozy atmosphere instantly reminded me of childhood. Before lunch, we picked up basmati rice, spices, pistachios, white mulberries, cardamom, and pistachio cookies. Lunch was fantastic! Tender lamb, Beef Bolani, naan, Do Piaza, saffron tea, and jalebi. Located in a rough part of town, for $20 I got 2 pounds of rice, a bit of mediocre salad from Walmart, slice of pita, and a 1/4 pound of decent lamb. I noticed people eating "for here" inside had much bigger portions. Still hungry. Way over priced, over rated and Under delivered. Also keep in mind they charge 4% extra for using a credit card. Really a family type place where they care. And that show shows. Sometimes emotions get you more than the food. And it was also delicious. Just be aware that some of the dishes are pretty spicy. Might be possible to ask them to tone it down on some. But we took the Tucson Dining Club there and it got a rousing round of approval from all of us. We recommend it. read more

The rice was perfectly fluffy and you could taste the love and tradition in every grain. The kebabs were juicy and tender, grilled just right with that smoky char that makes you want more. And don't even get me started on the side dishes.. the mantu was delicate and flavorful, and the chutneys added the perfect kick. I think this place is one of the hidden gems of dining experience in Tucson. Friendly people and the owner came to greet our group and explained some items to us. The yogurt drink had a shredded cucumber and mint on it, I loved it. I also tried a stuffed flat bread with meet and potatoes and leaks, it was freshly baked. This was the most flavorful food I've had in a long time! I had banjam burani ( sp?) . Friendly service and delicious food.

Under the bright lights of a very clean store, there are tables and put on those tables is some of the best Middle Eastern food in town. It's down the street from home which is always a plus, first we had the Bolani Gandana a leek stuffed turnover which was amazing cooked perfectly and who doesn't love leeks. The Bajan Barani, which is eggplant cooked perfectly with naan, I could not stop eating, it was cooked to perfection and the oil was perfect for dipping. We also shared a chicken kebab and it was nice and tender. What was the best was that when I walked through the kitchen to the bathroom, the kitchen was so clean and the family working there were so nice. I decided to try this place out with my friends last night and definitely had a great meal! The restaurant is very small, with a few tables, and is also a small market. Two of us ordered the Chicken Kabob, one person got the Teka Kabob (lamb) and one person got the Banjun Burani (fried eggplant). The portions are generous! The naan that came with our meals was a little dry for our liking, though we still ate it. However, the food itself was delicious! The chicken was perfectly tender and seasoned, and the rice had a great flavor! As the restaurant is more casual, and primarily about the food, the service is a little lacking. If you need more water or a box you will likely have to ask directly. Despite this, the food is great and I would definitely come back to try more! read more

I had dinner here last night with half a dozen friends. Two of us ordered a Qabuli Palow to share. Twenty minutes later, the server apologetically told us that they had run out of it and asked if a Mantou (Afghan dumplings) would be OK. We said yes. She brought each of us a full portion and didn't charge us for them, which is classy. I only paid for my Doogh (yogurt drink; $2.99). I enjoyed the Mantou as well as some tastes from my friends' plates. Service was friendly but slow enough that we almost were late for our movie. (The problem was with the kitchen, not the server.) I don't want to discourage people from trying this place; just leave extra time, as their kitchen couldn't handle even a half-full restaurant in a timely manner. They also have a baked goods section with a variety of cookies, cakes, and pastries. The owner Ritiek is super friendly and enthusiastic about her business. She gave us her personal recommendations on what to eat. So we ordered the Bolani Kacholo to start. They are called turnover but they resemble a thin dough almost like tortilla that is stuffed with potatoes. The yogurt and chutney were delicious! They make the yogurt fresh in house. The chutney was super flavorful. Qabuli Palow which is a lamb dish served with traditional Afghan rice sauteed carrots and raisins. And the Chicken kabob Which is also served with rice and chutney. Both entrees are served with cabbage and sliced tomatoes, which really didn't add much to the experience. The tomatoes were not ripe and the salad wasn't dressed. The portions of rice of enormous. They can fed 3 people. The lamb and were good. Next time I plan on trying the Mantou (dumpljngs). read more

This is a small business and it's a market and has a tiny dining room area. They have products from Afghanistan which really look so good! They have cakes that look really amazing! Kabul Corner is hidden behind the Sketchers store off of E. Fort Lowell and Campbell Ave. The manager of the store who served us was attentive and a delight. She's from Afghanistan and been in U.S. for 17 years. The chef escaped Afghanistan in 2021. This place is part restaurant and part market. I ordered the Teka kabob, which were two lamb kabobs. They could have been a bit more tender and seasoned, but overall they were still good. I liked the tomatillo & cilantro sauce, and I wanted to drown all my food in it. I wasn't expecting then bread to be as tough as it was, but I haven't had Afghan bread before, so maybe that's how it is. I liked rice the best as it was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The portion size was large and I couldn't finish. Afterwards, I spied the roht bread/cake behind the counter and added it to my purchase. What a wonderful, locally owned, quaint little restaurant and market... with the friendliest, kind, and hard working owners and servers -- when I walked in for my first visit they treated me like an old friend! It may be useful for first-timers to know that this is indeed a little market & restaurant that's focused on very high quality food at very fair prices... it's by no means a formal or even semi-formal dining experience -- just a simple market ambiance with great people and fabulous food. I ordered a couple of entrees for take-out and it's true -- the portions are enormous(!!!), one could easily make two or maybe even three meals from the kebabs alone. I ordered one chicken and one teka (lamb) kebab and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly -- large tender pieces of chicken and lamb, melted in my mouth, small sides of sliced tomato and cucumber were fresh, ripe, and flavorful (it's more of a side to cleanse your pallet than it is a small salad, as a few other reviews have complained about). It's the kind of yummy goodness that you just want to keep eating even though you were full ten minutes ago! As for the market, it too is small but there are some excellent bagged spices that are much cheaper than you'd pay at a regular grocery store, and a nice selection of big bags of rice, steamers, tea pots, etc. If you like baklava, don't pass it up! I would prefer it by the UA again (like Sultan Palace was), but I know rents have gotten ridiculous and it's hard enough to make it as a restaurant with a random cuisine. But I was a regular at Sultan Palace when they were open, and always loved going there for shola. I asked about it, and she said it would coming soon, so I'm following them on Instagram with the hopes of catching it. It's also a market though! And they have lots of delicious native Afghan foods like chickpea cookies, almond cookies, nuts, and even halal meat. Dessert was very good and came with free tea. You should try it! read more

Do you love lamb? Then you are in luck. Fantastic lamb stew (which they split with another person in our party of 7). I tasted 2 other dishes (the Qabuli Palow is outstanding). I had read about this restaurant on Tucson Foodie and added it to my list of places to try. It's a very casual restaurant, there's a little open market beside tables and chairs for dining in. The owner was so incredibly nice and explained the menu. We were intrigued by the Doogh drink so she brought a sample. It was not good, very salty watery yogurt, so we were glad we didn't order it. We split the Shami Kabob which she said was medium spice and it was delicious. I loved the flavor of the meat and the rice that came with it was so so good. Even though we split it, that meal is good for one person. It looks like a lot because of the rice, but the portion of meat isn't filling for 2. The naan was dry and inedible. The owner said the chutney is her mom's recipe-made with tomatillos and cilantro. It was a great condiment for the meat and veggies. Prices are very reasonable. I had seen the photographs of their meals on the window, but never had an opportunity to go in there until today. If you're looking for a great Turkish restaurant/grocery store, this is it. Broaden your horizons and try the mulberries or the rolled apricots that they sell. They've got teas and rices and spices. A good selection of entrées and appetizers. Chicken lamb, beef, and vegetarian. I had the Bolani Kacholo (turnover stuffed with a seasoned potatoes and served with chutney and yogurt). Excellent excellent appetizer. When they say a turnover, it looked more like a quesadilla sized entrée. But oh so delicious. I met with the owners and their son. The wife took the time to explain what the various snacks were. Excellent food! I had the do piazo (lamb stew), and hubby had mantou (dumplings filled with ground beef). Both were incredibly flavorful and delicious. Even the rice was exceptional! What struck us both was that in eating these foods for the first time, they felt like instant comfort food to us. The gentleman who helped us (I assume he was the owner) was extremely kind and welcoming. We couldn't have enjoyed our meal more and wish this amazing market/restaurant was in our neighborhood. The food reminds me of the Afghan cuisine I've had elsewhere, particularly in New York, which is to say it is delightful. Less spicy than Indian, Afghan food is one of my favorites. This strip mall shop is not particularly impressive in its decor, and the small range of market items available does little to add to the atmosphere. However, the staff are friendly and the service is outstanding. I do think a bit of music might help to make Kabul Corner seem more authentic. A bit larger menu would also be welcome, especially if it included stuffed nan options. And, please less coriander. I know it is a major herb in the Indo-Pak region, but many of us don't like it; perhaps the guests could be asked about their coriander (cilantro) preference. All that said, we will absolutely be back for another delicious meal. read more

Large portions, reasonable price, food is good. The ambiance, well it's a grocery store with tables, so that could mean killer food. We ordered a lamb rice dish, a spicey kabab, and an app of a turnover stuffed with leaks. The rice dish was great, too sweet for me, buy my wife loved it. The lamb was fantastic and melted in your mouth. The turnover app was basically a large naan folder over some sparse ingredients, they did not hold up and wasn't that tasyt, however they made a great vehicle for the delicious chutney. The spicy kabab, wasn't spicy (they say you can request it to be spicier) and strange enough it came with a side fries. The kabab was moist and tasty, but I'm still confused by the fries. I think a more traditional Afghani side would be better. Oh the dishes came with a pointless salad (cabbage, tomato, cucumber, thats it) again a more authentic side would be appreciated. Give this place a shot, I sure am going to go again. read more
