"My Car Came Back Worse and They Gaslighted Me" I took my 2018 Audi A3 to Specialized Auto & Fleet for a coolant leak inspection, oil change, and headlight bulbs. I trusted them with my vehicle-- but what happened was unacceptable. They kept my car for 7 days total. On the 4th day I get a call saying my car was suddenly "undrivable" and would not go past 2500 RPM, and that they needed to "inspect it further." When I asked repeatedly if it was safe to drive, the employee Doug Wilson told me "absolutely not" and said they would look at it Monday because they're closed on weekends. By Monday, Doug told me there were no codes showing any issues, and that "magically" my car was running fine now. Despite this, they still overcharged me, failed to explain what had really happened, and returned my car with new problems that were not there before: The car now lags and jerks when accelerating. Interior and exterior lights no longer work properly. Never before seen warning lights NOW appearing. Had me drive off without my engine cover, I went back immediately to where no1 knew what happen to it. We found it in my trunk. I never agreed to that. They spilled engine oil in my trunk & now the carpet is disgusting and unusable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Doug Wilson (employee) drove my car to the front because it was still parked in the back, no mechanical mats in car or thank you/review us card like they usual do.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Throughout the process, he was dismissive, avoided giving direct answers, and gaslighted me whenever I asked legitimate questions about why my car had gone from running fine to being called "undrivable" under their care. In the end, I paid over $700, lost several days without a car, and got it back in worse condition. I loved my car, it was perfect now its not. Now the inside is dark, my outside lights don't illuminate for me when I walk to it in the dark alone. My headlights don't stay on after parking, can't use my trunk for anything important unless I replace it, put a towel over it, or carpet clean it. When switching gears from R to D or vice versa it reverts back and forth, after stopping at stop sign it lags & jerks to go. My trust in this shop is completely gone. I would never recommend Specialized Auto & Fleet to anyone -- their communication, integrity, and workmanship are all deeply lacking, concerning and need to be looked into. We have had our motorhomes serviced by this business for years, and until now, we have always been satisfied. They seem to know their stuff and, while they aren't cheap, they have always fixed our problems for a fair price. This time we brought our motorhome to them because of a problem with the batteries going dead and resulting error codes that needed to be cleared. They replaced the batteries and took care of the codes. But when their technician took our motorhome for a test drive, he must have driven too fast or gone over a curb or something, because one of our kitchen drawers slammed open and broke, along with a plate that was inside. That's NOT the problem. Anyone can make a mistake. It's what you do afterwards that matters. The owner of Specialized insisted that it wasn't their fault, that our drawer was overloaded, and refused to do anything about it, including apologizing. We've driven that RV up and down the west coast with exactly the same things in that drawer and it has NEVER come open. Not once. Maybe it wasn't their fault, but they were driving it when it happened. Taking some responsibility was the right thing to do. If they had said they were sorry and offered to split the cost of the damage, that would have been fair and acceptable to us. Instead they chose to lose a customer. read more

I made an appointment for Wednesday. my truck wasn't touched until late Friday afternoon. If at all. The service advisor told me Friday afternoon they were currently working on it. However, he was not able to tell me how much time they had put into the truck or specifically anything they did to it. I did not feel they were being honest With me. I had to call every day to get status updates and was always told it would be handled the next morning. I would have a little more understanding if their communication was better and they were upfront about when I would expect to have the truck worked on. I talked to the Manager and expressed my disappointment in their lack of professionalism and communication. I fully understand how business, in particular auto repair can become overwhelmed at times. However, good communication and honesty can smooth a lot of this over. He did say he was sorry, however he also proceeded to lecture me on "Sometimes that's the way the world works, when people don't get what they want, they are disappointed" and how they had sick technicians and technicians with kids and how they were extremely overwhelmed. I would have appreciated if they were upfront with me about that and I would have saved time and money towing my truck from Scotts Valley to Watsonville and then back again. Not that it would have helped much, but the manager never offered to try and make things right or fix the situation. Specialized Auto and Fleet has lost all respect and trust from me. Not only will I never patronize this business again, I will also not recommend them to anybody I ended up eating the cost of the two-way tow just so I did not have to do any further business with them. I welcome Specialized Auto and fleet to respond to any part of this that they feel is inaccurate or untruthful. There had been recent reports in the community about being ticketed for not having one so I thought I should get one. They took care of everything while I waited and were extremely professional. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I needed an oil change, I called and discussed the ability to do this which they said they were quite comfortable with doing particularly on my German vehicle.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had also had my tires recently checked and planned to make an appointment with Costco, but when they came out to give me the estimate and share with me their observations following the oil change, they advised that my tires needed to be replaced, which I already knew. [[HIGHLIGHT]]So I had to decide right then and there whether I wanted to continue waiting and reschedule the replacement of new tires and brakes because I needed those as well, so I decided to go for it and accept a ride home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Incidentally, it was Jose who I don't with and he is super! The following day they came back and picked me up and brought me back to my car, externally washed and ready to go. on top of all that I asked if they would take a check which they received approval for as long as I had a drivers license and I was mortified to find out that I had didn't have it on me. They gladly accepted the check with my license number printed on it because obviously I know my drivers license number. I didn't plan to spend the money that I spent, but I haven't priced all of these things out and from what I can tell everything was priced fairly. read more

We took our 2007 BMW 525i in for an overdue repair on the oil pan. While we were there, we had the rear brakes and rear tires replaced. While specialized is not the lowest price option around, they do know what they are doing and we have never had an issue with them that wasn't resolved. They have also worked on our 1986 BMW 325es, which is not any easy task due to it's age. I would not hesitate to use these guys. I have a Mercedes S430, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I recently called Specialized Watsonville to get a quote for front brakes. I was told by the man who answered the call that I would need to speak to Aaron, the owner, first because my husband had had a disagreement with him 7 years earlier & was told not to come back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He was referring to an incident that occurred when my husband brought his MB in for a simple oil change & was charged for the 'full oil service,' which cost more & included a lot of unneeded extras, instead of the simple oil change that my husband requested. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When my husband questioned the charge, Aaron became very angry & evidently put a note in my husband's file that day, because when I called the mechanic he knew immediately who I was, which is why I was told that I needed to speak to Aaron first before getting a quote or coming there for service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Is this a childish way to run a business or what? My husband had noticed early on that they had a habit of forcing customers into services that weren't needed because they want to make more money. Now we go to "Catalpa Street Motors, " just next to Hwy 1, who specialize in German cars & are lovely people to work with. read more

I tend to only write reviews when the experience is either horrible, or surpasses my expectations - this is one of the latter. I brought my RV in to Specialized for an alignment, and to have them install some shocks and stabilizer bars. From start to end, this was a super-smooth experience. Work was done well, on time, and the communication was great. They even found a squeak that I thought was the suspension and turned out to be a loose floor; they could have just said 'nope, not our stuff', but went the extra mile in resolving my issue. Also drove me all the way from Watsonville home to Scotts Valley - didn't need to do that. I wish I had more auto/RV experiences like this one. read more

This is my second experience with Specialized, first was for my son's Previa import, which I rated as 5 stars. This time, major work on my 2006 Taco, a new engine, clutch, radiator and associated parts. I was reluctant, but the cost for a used Taco 2006+ with low mileage was going to be more than the new engine, so it was an easier decision to make (never easy when spending thousands). The engine took two months to arrive (not their fault), but once the work started, it took two weeks. Just picked up today. It's early to do a thorough review, but the car feels good, so far. The clutch is buttery smooth and the engine is quiet. Doug is a professional and I feel confident about their expertise. They polished my headlamps as a courtesy. Happy to have my Taco back and will review again after a thousand miles or so. Not an inexpensive shop, but highly recommended. read more

Our motorhome broke down in Salinas CA. After 2 days of trying to get Ford to handle the issue (under warranty), I gave up and started looking for a private shop. When I called Specialized Auto & Fleet, I got a prompt response and a "Yes, we can handle your RV. I'll make sure there's a place for the tow truck to put it before you get here". We had it towed there, got a lift from mom in law and spoke with Jose about the problem. We were hoping to get fixed quickly and back on our vacation, but a good shop is always busy and this place was no exception. It was late in the day so we got a hotel for the night just in case it could be seen to on Friday. Spoke with Jose and he was honest that they would not likely be able to get to it today. Monday would be the earliest. So we drove home to Reno. Jose called Monday to advise they inspected and confirmed problem, needed authorization to proceed which I gave. I also let him know we're home so it's not any hurry, if it could be done by Friday that would be perfect. Tuesday Jose called to let me know it was done. We took a day off Friday and drove out to pick it up. Drove 300+ miles home and not a hiccup, problem fixed and everything in good working order. I would not hesitate to recommend Specialized Auto & Fleet for any services. Top notch communication, professional, clean (as much as a shop can be) and pleasant to do business with. read more

My husband and had heard decent reviews about Specialized the only negative was that they take a lot longer than usual. We have always gone to Mercedes of San Jose and the service was great but we decided since we were out of warranty we would use someone local. My SUV started burning oil so I brought it in. Two weeks and $10,000 later, I finally got my car back. Drove off and immediately the check engine light went on. Brought it back, they had it for another couple days and said it was fixed. Couple months went by and it started burning oil again. Brought it back in thinking they would warrantee their work. They told us it was a new problem and quoted us $15,000. We went and picked up our car and had it towed to Mercedes San jose. They found the problem and we drove away with the car repaired for $3000. Needless to say we will not be going anywhere near Specialized ever again read more

This used to be a solid and trustworthy place to take your vehicle with consistently good service. You could tell the people helping you knew what they were doing and their confidence easily instilled a sense of trust whenever I left my vehicle to be worked on. Over the last year or so since I gave my mother my Mercedes, I trusted them to work on her car and had no concerns of having her go alone or that any service recommendations would be false or upsells. I haven't personally had a European car in a year or so and I also haven't lived in the area for several years until recently (for both). In short, my recent psuedo bait & switch experience combined with my mother's similar recent experience has us both looking for a new place to take our cars to be serviced. Mine will both be going to the dealer, since they're actually cheaper than Specialized. I left feeling as if I had just picked up my 5 month old Audi from a Wheel Works or Jiffy Lube. Me: Called last week 1/5/22 and made an appointment for Tuesday 1/11/22, 8am. Asked for a quote for the requested an oil & filter change. Doug couldn't provide the quote as they "didn't have the filter". -Called to confirm appointment Monday, 1/10 only to find out the appointment was made for 1/12/22 at 8am. That was fine, I moved around my work schedule. -I followed up and asked if they had the parts and oil needed (I have 2 - 2021 VW/Audi vehicles, they take a special green synthetic oil). They said they did in fact have everything needed and provided the quote at $136. This morning 1/12/22 around 9am, Doug called to let me know they in fact did NOT have the correct oil and did need to increase the estimate to $160. Ended up being $150ish when I picked it up. Seems like a lot of running around and too much mis-information for a simple Oil Change. My Mother: Dropped off her Mercedes for the Oil Service and all was well. She was told by Doug at her previous service ~50k miles that she needed to do Spark Plugs at 60k miles, which her car is now at and which is a correct recommendation for this specific car. This is a manufacturer recommended service, which we thought we would be reminded of at this most recent service. We were actually fine with having them changed. After the oil service was complete, the service advisor (not Doug, the younger gentleman) advised her that she actually didn't need to replace them until 100k miles. He did, however, recommend that she spend $1,000 lubing the chasis and other suspension components. These experiences were quite unbecoming of their reputation. I hope the staff can improve their knowledge of service recommendations or at least get on the same page before recommending different things to their customers. I don't trust my mother taking her car here any more and I now wont bring either of mine here. Further, I hope that they improve their knowledge of on hand parts and materials. These short comings completely undermine what this business advertises itself as, a Specialized service center. read more
