If you are in the Newark Airport, you are going to pay exhorbitant prices for everything you eat or drink. Kaedama is no exception. It is an order-by-phone restaurant with virtually no opportunity to customize anything with what you order (you get 15 characters to express yourself, so if you have an allergy, have fun suffering through the ill effects). I ordered a ramen bowl, and it was the epotime of "meh". The egg was a complete hard boil, which made it off-putting. The nori was excessively heavy-handed (it was almost 1:1 for nori to noodle). And the flavor just wasn't there. I also find it annoying -- though I get that this is the new trend -- to request a 25% tip when there is not an actual server. Bring me something as simple as a glass of water and I will consider something basic, but when I can't even get water unless I buy a $78 dollar bottle of off-the-shelf water, there is no reason for me to think that a great-service-level tip is warranted. It is hard enough for me to do 18% for someone who literally set down a bowl covered in cling wrap where my entire interaction was the delivery person saying "Here" and walking away. read more

For airport ramen this place was decent enough! I ordered a glass of French rosé at $19 which is what you'd expect for a glass of wine plus airport markup, and it was mellow sweet and medium bodied as described. I started with an Atlantic salmon nigiri which tasted fresh and served with a reasonable amount of side ginger and wasabi that I actually used. The ramen itself is typically less elaborate than most brick and mortars but there was a surprising amount of ramen noodles, which came with enough scallions to include a few fragrant morsels with each bite. The pork was also tender in texture and not over cooked. The broth wasn't overly salty and made for a great finisher. The seating itself is situated in a food court at Newark which allowed for fun people watching while slurping your soup. I found it to be an excellent layover meal experience and recommend this to anyone with an hour to spare between flights. read more

This is the worst ramen I've ever had. I placed my order at 3:20, didn't get it until 4pm. They have to wheel the food in from a kitchen elsewhere. The ramen was so cold, the broth had no flavor at all, the egg was supposed to be soft boiled ended up being hard. Service was really dismal as well. The tonkotsu broth was weak but not as bad as my partner's flavorless shiyo. Both were carted over from somewhere else, probably sitting around cooling for half an hour. Don't order if you're in a rush because it takes a while, isn't in a to-go container, and also cuz it's pretty bad. Maybe the sandwiches conspicuously missing prices at the shop across the way would have been better. Anyway, shame on me for my lack of imagination that ramen at an airport could be so bad. After we had a below average experience at a restaurant in the terminal I, we decided to come to the Ramen bar and have some cocktails. My fiancé ordered the espresso martini, which is one of the most basic drinks to make and it's unfortunately after two times, it was too sweet and overpowered with liquor. We asked the bartender to remake it but the same results even though we did not like the drink, they were nice enough to make us an old fashion which was good. Aside from the negative points I want to point out the positive which was our bartender, Alexandra was a very sweet and very attentive, she was honest that it was her first time making a drink, but promised to try and make it better for us and we appreciate the effort and a good customer service. My only feedback is to have a little bit more training from management to set up your employees for success. read more

They take about 15 minutes to get you your drink and about 40 mins to bring you your meal after you order. There were about 3 or 4 people complaining about the wait and whether their food was coming or not. If you are in a hurry, this is not a good place to eat. My wait was very long. The meal was okay, not a lot of customer service since it's an iPad based system. I had a sushi combo and it was pretty decent, but not stellar. What a great little bar service restaurant at EWR. This place is one of the updated restaurants of the renovated United Terminal C--restaurants that have been upgraded to include iPads at each seat where you can order food or drinks, surf the Web, or play digital games. On this visit, we only had apps and drinks. I had a well-made Tito's dirty martini, and both Tony and I had Malbac wine for our second round (get the extra half pour for $5; definitely worth it). All drinks were above average, but they were priced kinda high (as you would probably expect for airports, though). As for apps, I highly recommend the wings. They are tasty, succulent, and fall-right-off-the bone tender! Yum! The staff at Kaedama are also super nice and attentive! My friend and I had a connecting flight so we decided to have lunch here since it was going to be a pretty long day of flying. After walking around Terminal C for a while deciding what to eat, ramen seemed to be the most reasonable price, $15 for a bowl versus a deli sandwich. I love ramen and I eat a lot of it when I'm in NYC but I guess I set the bar too high here. But c'mon, the bamboo shoots should not be cold and taste like it just came out of the can. I would come back just because I love eating anything with soup in it but I'm not eager to. The broth isn't flavorful, it's rather bland. The service was pretty slow as well. The servers at the bar were friendly and helpful with explaining how to order with the electronic menu on the iPad. The menu automatically adds an 18% gratuity, but the bar server explained how to adjust that amount. They were also fairly quick with the drinks. The food service was very quick with the pork potsticker appetizer and average with the child's menu cheeseburger and fries. The pork potstickers were delicious, but not enough for a meal. This is a ramen bar but that didn't catch my fancy as much as the wine! Hubby left the concourse to meet some mutual friends but I didn't want to have to negotiate TSA security again so I stayed in the airport. Sometimes I just need some time to myself albeit in a crowded airport. This place fit the bill for me tonight although it's a bit expensive! The cheeseburger supposedly was available with fries, fruit or greens, but the menu offered only fries. I'd liked to have cut the calories, but with 2 9 oz glasses of wine, my stomach may be better off with the fries! And they tasted good too. The cheeseburger was just the right size and tasty as well. Had an absolutely sublime experience at Kaedama on a recent set of trips connecting through Newark. We had a selection of sushi and ramen. All was served fresh with a minimum of fuss via the iPad ordering system. I've been to a pile of sushi and ramen joints across the US and in Japan as well and Kaedama is doing a solid job. They also mix generous cocktails, all a welcome respite to travelers like myself transiting through Newark. We were especially well taken care of by Lou, a fine bartender/server with a lot of heart. I was very dissappointed with the ramen at Kaedama in the Newark Airport. Unfortunately for me I forgot to look up the Yelp reviews before stopping at this place, had I done that I would have chosen to eat elsewhere. I ordered a ramen bowl with pork & fish and a lemonade. The ramen bowl costed $16.50 and the lemonade $4.00 which after tax cost almost $24.00. The ramen noodles were clumpy and under cooked. There was very little meat and the flavor was bland. The glass of lemonade was small and there was so much ice there wasn't much beverage in it. The only good things about my dining experience were the server working behind the counter and the look and layout of the dining area.
