Roark Wine Co was the third stop of our Stagecoach Wine Tour... No rolling vineyards, no long dirt roads... not even a tasting room full of knick knacks and things with price tags. Welcome to Buellton, the nuts and bolts of the valley. We parked in an industrial area that seemed like a place air conditioners come to die, but once inside, all the warmth missing from the exterior could be found in the owner Ryan Roark, a good ol' boy from Texas, charismatic and friendly, looking a little like Sam Worthington from Avatar. Though a tour there would last ten minutes because the facility is small, he proudly and patiently answered all of an inquisitive tour-mate's questions regarding the winemaking process (pressing, storing, corks), and it was all interesting. Though it may be different for those who pop by 11-4 on Fridays and Saturdays, our group sat at a long table with a black tablecloth, surrounded by barrels, with a herding dog Mia poking her head between our legs looking for attention. His wines were very good to amazing, and he purposely didn't have descriptive tasting notes, for which I gathered were poetic reasons, not to influence one's interpretation. Bonus: maybe it was his mood or our timing, but he climbed onto some barrels and we were treated to two remarkable barrel tastings. He basically siphoned wine out into a turkey baster thing with his mouth. Of course, I'm sure my germaphobic wife was wanting him to gargle her hand sanitizer, but it was all good. For those unconcerned about a classy ambiance, which nowadays is merely knick-knacks and things for sale anyway, I highly recommend this place to someone who appreciates drinking low-production wines with the owner/operator himself before he blows up. Literally, he has one of those Snake Plisskin bomb capsules in his neck... no, not literally.

Jessi coordinated with us for the months leading up to the event, and her planning and communication were fantastic every step of the way. On the day of the event, Kelly handled coordination and the bar, which made it easy for us to sit back and relax. Beyond the great service, the day itself was a blast. Our employees had an amazing time! Riding the tractor was a hit, visiting with the Scottish Highland Mini Bull was so much fun, and our animal encounter with the goat was a favorite too. The lunch was great -- the sandwiches were served on homemade bread that was really tasty. The setting was perfect, with ample shade, a nice breeze, and comfortable temperatures. If you're looking for a venue for a company party or special event, I can't recommend Vega Vineyard & Farm highly enough. Huge thanks to Jessi, Kelly, and the whole team for making our celebration so memorable!
