Blue Matcha Latte with oat milk
    Gregory C.

I finished a long day of meetings and was looking for a nice pick me up close by. I heard a recommendation for this spot so decided to check it out. We went right before closing and was not rushed. The menu also included a blue Matcha, which was the first time I had seen anything like it. The blue Matcha was made with pea and is also not caffeinated. I decided to give it a try as an iced latte with oat milk. It was delicious. I also appreciated the playlist that they had in the background and noticed lots of seating indoors, as well as some seating outdoors in case you wanted to read or work from the café. They also have a seasonal menu, so make sure to ask what's on it when you go inside I noticed a strawberry Matcha that I would've considered ordering but already got the blue Matcha.

Delightful coffee, spot, and an ideal location, just across from Esther Short Park. Modern, clean, spacious and delicious drinks. Staff members are friendly and helpful.

Great spot to go to when you're in the farmer market. Great baristas very attentive. Very clean store. Coffee was a great treat while walking around . Highly recommend .

A visit to Vancouver requires a stop at this coffee shop. If you haven't tried a siphon coffee this would be the place to give it a go.

Kafiex is a coffee shop local to Vancouver. They have this location on Esther St right next to the weekend farmers market, as well as another spot on the waterfront. This store is cute, very bright with lots of windows. Fun mural behind the counter. A long table in the middle and a few smaller two/four person tables. Service has been good. Pastries have been just okay. I've enjoyed the coffees I've had here, though I wish they had bigger sizes for less cost (which is similar to most independent shops these days). I've just gotten the regular drip with half and half. I know their roasting has gotten them some awards so bigger coffee connoisseurs than me may appreciate it more!

I really like going here as the Farmers Market is just winding down around 2 - 2:30 p.m. It's usually not as busy and there's plenty of places to sit. The coffee is some of the best tasting coffee in Vancouver, no lie!

Inside is clean and well lit. Colorful artwork pops behind the counter as a focal point for the space.

Kafiex has two locations in downtown Vancouver -- a Coffee Lab by Esther Short Park and a Gastro Cafe on the Waterfront. They have similar vibes and quality of offerings. This review is specifically for the original location on the corner of Esther St and 8th. This location seems to be regularly short-staffed with only one or two people working at a time. This causes a backup on orders as each drink is completed before taking the next order. If you're meeting someone for coffee and order before they do, you may lose up to ten minutes of your meeting time waiting for them to get through the line to place an order, which is what happened to me today. Also if you're staying for a meeting, note that the chairs here are flimsy plastic. They are not very sturdy and creak when you shift in them. Uncomfortable seating is one way to keep customers moving along! The golden turmeric latte with whole milk was good but the experience was just so-so especially when there are so many other options around.

Blue matcha latte and double shot of doppio iced. Must try

I love the interior decor and the service was great. Not to mention how great the espresso and latte was. Will come back next time I visit Vancouver

    Decaf almond milk cappuccino

I gave Kafiex 2 tries, and unfortunately it's an overall miss for me. I first went during the Farmers Market (so fairly busy inside) and then went today when it was nearly dead inside. Both times all the baristas were not friendly, and the milk was left sitting on the counter. A main reason for going is that the coffee is organic and fair trade and the shop itself is very aesthetically pleasing. However $15 for an almond milk decaf cappuccino and oat milk latte is a lot, and we even brought our own cups. I'd expect at least some friendlier vibes. ‍

I like the ambience of this place, smells so good as you walk in. Didn't have to wait long for our drinks.

Kalifex coffee weighting in at 301g when it's supposed to be 340g of coffee. At the very least, it's short 39g.
    Christopher C.

Picked up two bags of coffee from two different places in Vancouver, one is Kalifex. When I get home, I notice the two bags weigh noticeably different with the bag of Kalifex being the lighter of the two. Both bags are 12oz/340g bags. The Kalifex bag, sealed, weighs 300g. Either Kalifex has created a new bag that actually reduces the overall weight on the product, or they shorted me a few ounces of coffee. Edit: Apparently, according to Matt. S w/Kafiex they are now selling 10oz bags and due to a misprint, the bags say 12oz. I was supposed to be informed at the register, but was not. Beware and ask before you buy.

Cajeta latte (Mexican Carmel) with almond milk
    Heather E.

Let me start by saying there are several coffee spots in this area but what drew me in was the Farmers Market! I stopped in on a Saturday morning. Between the market & the local coffee it was like a 2 for 1. Coffee was great and definitely strong. I was intrigued by their "blue matcha latte" (love matcha) but was informed it does NOT contain caffeine. I craved caffeine so I went with the cajeta latte (Mexican Carmel) instead. The only thing I was crazy about was the almost $7 latte I paid for. Yes, I got almond milk but this was a 12 oz hot latte. Everything you would think a local coffee shop in. Vancouver would be like...this is it. Baristas were very friendly and helpful explaining the menu. I'd come back to this location if the farmers market was going on, if not I'd check somewhere new off the "local coffee shop" list!

I popped in on a weekday morning and it was bustling with people. The line wasn't long and I got helped quickly. I wasn't sticking around, but there were open tables. Things were clean. They also have plenty of room to sit outside if you'd like. There are pastries and some cold drinks in a case. There aren't a lot of gluten free options, but they did have one muffin I could have had. The drink preparation takes a bit of time. There were people already waiting and many of their drinks have special preparations (pour overs, steeping the tea). Have a minute to wait. I had the London Fog and the baristas advice held true. The flavor was worth the wait and I will surely go back. They roast their own coffee and make you feel welcome. Plus, there's a bookstore across the street. Love all around.

The shop itself is definitely on the smaller side with only a few places to sit inside, so it feels more like an in-and-out coffee stop versus somewhere you're going to spend hours working or hanging out. They do serve lunch items along with pastries and coffee, and when I walked in there were a few locals standing around watching TV which gave it a casual neighborhood vibe. I ordered a large cold brew and a pecan bar from the pastry case. The cold brew was actually really good -- strong, smooth, and definitely woke me up. The pecan bar, though, wasn't my favorite. It tasted a little aged/stale and unfortunately didn't really hit the mark for me (especially when you grow up spoiled by homemade pecan bars ). Service was okay but not particularly warm or welcoming. More of a "take your order and keep it moving" type of atmosphere. Nothing rude, just not overly friendly either. All in all, still a decent little coffee stop if you're nearby and need caffeine, but with so many coffee shops in the area, I'm excited to continue exploring and see what else Vancouver has to offer
