Came for some coffee after having lunch on Commercial. There aren't too many coffee shops north of 1st Avenue. The staff are friendly, the coffee was good but the place is very dimly lit, it feels narrow inside and The reason for the lower star is because there is no washroom or at least none provided. They told us to go to Havana restaurant down the street to use that restaurant's washroom. Felt weird going to another place to ask to use the washroom. I never thought a coffee shop wouldn't have a washroom for their customers. Maybe there was an issue, if they had a washroom but I didn't see anywhere you could go, to go to a washroom. Located along commercial drive - plenty of street parking on side streets and along commercial drive - also very transit friendly - there is a bus stop directly in front of the shop - Shop is very clean - however found it kind of poorly lit, seemed pretty dark. Staff was very friendly the times I dropped by - however they didn't really make suggestions - I found the pastries - Banana bread, lemon loaf kind of dry - they may of been sitting around too long. I come here for their Turksicle! It's delicious iced coffee goodness. Their other coffee offerings aren't bad but the Turksicle is a standout. They also have bars and baked goods. Stopped by on a cloudy Saturday afternoon and the place was nearly empty. Even with many tables removed, there was still plenty of space to sit inside and outside. We were originally on our way to Moja, but Turks caught our eye with its aesthetics and charming vibe. I ordered an iced latte and it was honestly the best iced latte I've ever had! There was something about it that made it taste almost like chocolate. The coffee was super smooth and it was an excellent blend. I'm not sure if I just got really lucky or if their coffee is just that good, but I definitely want to go again to find out! read more

Great coffee shop on Commercial with delicious and well-made mochas. Hubby and I have been frequenting The Drive and exploring different restaurants and cafes but this is our favorite place to get mochas. Personally, I love their hedgehog mocha (hazelnut) with mylk while the hubby always gets their regular mocha. Sooo good! Now I wanna go back to grab a cup. Place itself is cozy and warm. Cute little coffee shop on The Drive with yummy coffee and a patio perfect for people-watching. My friend and I stopped in here after brunch to grab some lattes to go. For me a vanilla almond milk latte and for my pal a regular vanilla latte. I loved my little caffeine fix. I'm not sure if it was the coffee itself, the vanilla, or the almond milk, but whatever those baristas did, I really, really enjoyed my latte. Seems like a great place to hang out and catch up with a friend or post up and get some work done. It's quite small in here, so I can imagine that it would get full quickly, especially on a warm, sunny day. Overall, yummy coffee, friendly baristas, and cute decor from other local businesses. While there are plenty of coffee shops on The Drive, this one will definitely be one of my top ones to visit and recommend. read more

How welcoming and relieving to have a friendly face offer to take my order. Consumed drink and food on the front patio outside. The pleasures one took for granted not so long ago. read more

The coffee here is amazing. I got the iced latte which tasted delicious and smooth. My husband got the killer mocha and it was creamy and smooth and chocolatey with no bitterness. Our barista was sweet and efficient. The shop itself was cozy and warm. We will definitely be back again. read more

Not sure what's with the name variation. Overall I like their coffee beans, though their bar/espresso drinks vary depending on what kind of mood their baristas are in. Could be touch and go. Not consistent enough for me to frequent. Service like their espresso drinks is a mix bag. You will never know what you will get. Interior is a meh for me, narrow space, and a tad dimly lit throw in some creative furnishings. But love it. Overall value is potentially there if they can make a consistent cup which they seem to struggle with. read more

Great coffee place on the drive. Lots of cafes on this street, this one is on top of my list. I went to Italy earlier this year and have been in search for good espresso since. This place does a decent job. I love the local vibe and the decor. Has a patio seating in the front, great for people watching. The barista's are friendly and offers great suggestion. One of the nicer hipster feel-good coffee joints on the Drive. Parking is available on the side streets, unless one wants to throw money away on the meters on Commercial. The place is quite classy. Special mention for the decor. The inside was filled with learned-looking people too. I could feel my IQ and sophistimacation going up as I breathed in the air. The pastries and coffees here are quite good. I had the hedgehog mocha, which is covered in cream and chocolate flakes. So fragrant. I can still smell it now. The banana bread I had was a bit more dense than the competition, but the taste was excellent. Not sure if they make it in house, but it's definitely worth a try. The lemon bread was not too sweet (probably half as sweet as the equivalent from Starbucks), which is a huge plus - most places pile on way too much sugar. This was a refreshing change. Turks is a solid spot for coffee. It's strong and tasty. Whether you're looking for a place to work on your laptop, read the paper or socialize with coffee in hand, Turks is a welcome environment. It's a little small inside, but also has a patio out front, which is great for the warmer months. I've always had great times at Turks, and have been accustomed to spending hours sitting happily reading a book, sipping a beverage, and people watching. I hadn't been in a year or more and I have to say I was a bit disappointed this time. The branding has been updated to match their sister store, Milano, and I didn't feel the new upscaleness fit with my previous Turk's experience. I also found their tea selection to be less than ideal - my mum can't have caffeine and the baristas had no idea if their teas were caffeinated or not - a bit disappointing. My drink was still good, but I felt a bit more uncomfortable staying for a long time than I previously had. I'll for sure be back to give them another shot, but this did not live up to my previous experiences! read more

Turks is cool. Laid back and mellow, it's full of diehard regulars who bring their dogs and chat on the outdoor patio. The coffee is good, and the cinnamon buns are perhaps some of the best in the city. The clientele are mostly under-dressed 20-40 year olds who probably biked there, not quite scenesters but more like slackers. Good for reading a book, or students looking to cram or write an essay without falling asleep or watching television. The prices are reasonable, and the ambiance is relaxed. It's had many years to perfect the persona, and worth a visit if you hate the corporate competition. read more

I passed by this quaint little coffee shop on the drive on a cloudy day and spontaneously decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised when they told me I could get anything on the menu as an iced drink. I ordered an iced mocha, and ended up forgetting to say "half sweet". There were only 2 people working behind the bar so it took a REALLY long time to get my drink.. I think I waited about 20 minutes... which by my standards is quite a long time. I was happy that the mocha didn't taste too sweet, but it did have a "watered" down flavor (espresso flavor almost didn't come through at all). The baristas were very apologetic and friendly, but in terms of judging the place purely based on the drink, I think next time I would walk right by without a second look. read more

Popped in for a quick cappuccino, which was absolutely fabulous. Funky, warm space, enhanced by the large art on the walls which is also on the takeout cups. Nice seating areas. We really liked it here - so much more soul than Bucks. Would definitely stop in again. read more

Excellent coffee -- no surprise there, coming from trusty ol' Milano. Nice decor, serene view of green, with Grandview Park right across the street; however, this is definitely a grab and go kind of cafe. Seating can be considered cozy or downright cramped depending on how you see it, but I'd lean towards the latter. It would certainly be a challenge for parties of more than two to hang out here. One star off for that. No doubt about it -- Turks will be my go-to cafe if and when I am in this hood. read more

Delicious organic coffee and friendly, quirky service was what I got from my most recent visit to Turks. It has been a while since I've moved from the drive and wasn't yelping back then. The guy at the counter made a cute comment about my gf not drinking coffee and how dare she come 'round these here parts. I used to really like hanging out at this cafe, and if I still hung out at cafes I might still hang out there. The patio has a nice view of the park and the music selection is alright. The counterpeople were usually quite friendly and I managed to squeeze out a few cups of drip for free during my afternoons there. I think the smoking bylaws changed some things with the place though, as I remember sitting around the patio drinking coffee and chain smoking with anyone, talking creative, philosophical, and pop Through those encounters I met a guy who was recording everything he sees in a day and then editing in a huge studio he was a janitor for, a female to male cross gendered trucker who invited me to come walk his dogs with him on our first encounter (freaked me out!) and a lot of musicians, even a few draft dodgers! The place drew such an eclectic crowd of patio sitters drinking coffee and chain smoking that I never left without an inspired conversation. The drip coffee really isnt that great and the bakery up the street has much treats. I dont order fancy beverages from coffee shops (I like my first cup black) so I have never been too enthused about their menu. I love trying out different coffee shops (I'm starting to appreciate places along The Drive). Turks Coffee Exchange is a very small coffee shop. Not a place to bring your laptop or to read or to basically do anything in there for more than 5 minutes. I went in there around 2pm on a weekday and there was a short line. When I got to the counter I stood there looking like a lost puppy eavesdropping into the conversations the barista was having with the other barista. I tried to make my presence known without seeming too hostile. Eventually I got around to ordering my hazelnut latte. Thank goodness the latte tasted good because if not, that would've been a huge waste of my time. Would I go back again? No. The small latte I got was actually pretty pricey (their cup sizes seemed smaller - think Tim Horton's cup sizes). Their baked goods didn't seem very enticing. And I definitely didn't feel very welcomed. I love coffee shops that make you feel homey. There was no evidence of that at Turks Coffee Exchange. read more

Turk's gets the coffee right! The beans are roasted at Milano Coffee Roasters in town. The coffee always has nice crema and tastes fantastic. It's also nice that they have few options for Today's Espresso and you can try different flavours. They are all good coffee but it's interesting to be able to taste the different notes of the coffee. The shop has a very relaxing atmosphere and baristas will ask you questions to get your coffee right. Great coffee on Commercial Drive. read more

Used to love this place! Came here often a few years ago when I lived on the drive and the coffee was great, good atmosphere, wonderful staff. Since moving back down to the drive it's been a steep decline for Turks. Hours are confusing - Yelp says open til 11, Google and window sign says open til 10, but we were kicked out early at seemingly random times (845??) Multiple times in the past two weeks. Tonight was the last time we will come back. Counter staff waited til we both ordered $5-6 drinks and sat down, opened our laptops and then said oh we're closing in 10 minutes. Unprofessional. Would've asked for a refund if she hadn't been so busy closing down and rushing everyone out. Why not let us know when we're ordering that you're closing so we can make an informed choice? Drinks have declined in quality and the sizes suck for how much you're paying now. You lost our business. read more

One of my favourite coffee bars in Vancouver that my manager introduced me to. I've only really had one item from their menu, their hedgehog latte, but I can attest that it is the best damn latte that I have ever had. It is decadent, sweet, and heartwarming. While drinking this, I feel like I am killing two birds with one stone: a caffeinated drink and a delicious dessert. The chocolate in this drink is so smooth, I can imagine that it actually has melted hedgehog chocolates in it. I also love the seating in this place. They usually open their doors and window so you feel like you are sitting on a balcony on Commercial Drive. It is also across from a lively park so there is always something going on outside. Lastly, the art in this place is really beautiful. They even have art on their to-go cups. It's little things like this which give this place character and a truly unique ambiance. This is a great place to spend an afternoon working, studying, or catching up with a friend. I love it! read more

I've always been a supporter of Turks. It's inviting, they play good music and the setup is doable if you're sipping solo or with a chum. (no couches or big chairs) I've noticed the reviews haven't said anything about their baked selections, so here goes! Their cinnamon buns are fresh. Covered on the counter top beside the till they will tempt you, and why not allow the indulgence once in awhile. (my mind used that excuse to try them) They are the perfect amount of frosting and sweetness. Not crunchy or too chewy. Satisfying. The carrot cake is covered in icing, dense, good flavor, but worth sharing with a friend cause it is quite filling. Maybe I'm picky, but because it was stored in the glass display cooler I always feel like it's been sitting there for a long time, but I got over that, and it doesn't taste like it's aged. Coffee is good here, I'm only picky about burnt bitterness and I don't find that with their coffee. Their iced mocha is awesome! (Quite big, so don't make your stomach sick by drinking it too fast or after a meal) I usually get a vanilla latte and their flavor is always smooth and consistent. They are renovating the park across the street at the moment, I think that may deter their patio patrons with the noise and view, but think about the future view of the new park! read more

Stopped in here while we were waiting for a table at a restaurant around the corner - best decision of the day. We stop in every time we are in the area now and it's only been two and half weeks. This place has a great atmosphere that includes indoor and outdoor seating, with Wi-Fi (plus Shaw Go Wi-Fi), and a unique array of pictures which are also used on the to go cups. The lighting is great for hanging out or working, and the vibe is very low-key. Dependent on how busy it is it can get a little crowded. We've been back a few times now and the line to order can block the way for those grabbing their order and moving to a table or leaving. Not the end of the world, but if the tables near the front are full then it's a bit trick to maneuver. First time we went we got a Raspberry Mocha, Hedgehog Mocha, and a London Fog - also grabbed a Lavender Bar. I am so in love with these Hedgehog Mochas that I will easily make the 40 minute transit commute from my house the next time I need to get out for a few. They are good. The guys enjoyed their drinks, but they guzzled them down in case our table popped up so who knows if they actually tasted them. The Lavender Bar was nothing special but it was still good. Looking forward to trying one of those cinnamon buns that everyone is recommending, but they were out at the time and we were headed for dinner. The gents that were behind the counter for our trips were all very friendly.
