The food was broke da mouth! During one of my dining visits, I was on my no carb lifesytle and got the Island cobb salad with Kalua Pork ( available in 2 sizes $9./$17.) Lettuce, cucumber, corn, tomato, avocado with Kalua Pig, and sweet onion dressing. Wow, I am glad they have this option for salads. I hope they don't discontinue the Cobb salad as it was so good! During this recent stop I picked up the Pork Belly and Pipikaula plate in short ribs style. This was such a great choice as my family enoyed it . Beer and Pork Belly for pupus and pipikaua ribs for dinner. This place use to be unreal 5 stars in my books they fell off my radar from 5 stars to 2 stars. The other day I had lunch there and i ordered their Lau Lau and squid luau combo. It was very tasty and the squid luau had a mouth full of squid. The downside is look at the rice . The rice was very hard I guaranteed it was left overs sitting in the rice warmer and they served us the hard rice . Also the service was very slow only 1 worker but we were the only customer in there . I recommend this Hawaiian food place over others but maybe ill stop from know on . We wanted something fast when we were in Kaimuki, and it was in between lunch and dinner, and I came across O'ahu Grill on Yelp. We went in through the back and the guy behind the counter greeted us and answered all our questions. I asked what she special was and it was similar to a chicken long rice soup, but pretty hearty. He gave me a generous sample and it was delicious - I just wasn't hungry. My husband for a plate type lunch and he ended up eating it at the nearby park. I liked the place so much, I bought one of their shirts that said "OG" on the front lol. I just loved the great service and the food was delicious. Oahu Grill is a small family business style restaurant. When we arrived on a Saturday during lunch time, there was only one person on staff and he greeted us with familiarity. The space is small and doesn't offer much in the way of decorations. We ordered one of the large plates and split between our group as we were food touring the area and he was kind enough to give us larger portions than is typically served so we could try lots of options while still feeling satisfied. The quality of the food was traditional home-style, like your grandma would make, but of course Hawaiian. The chicharron was delicious, but the meat was a bit dry and tough. Dipping it in the soy and vinegar sauce helped add moisture and also a nice acidic kick. We also got the squid lu'au, which was a bit odd to me as someone who's never had it, but the taro leave mixture was really delicious and paired with the rice beautifully. The laulau pork was my favorite on the plate because every bite was tender and juicy. The poi was not for me as the texture reminded me of pudding, but made of taro root and it was cold. It's more of a personal preference though. I loved ending the meal with the coconut jelly. Even though the textures and flavors aren't the same, it reminded me of the effect arroz con leche has at the end of a spanish meal, probably because of the milk aspect. Delicious! read more

I was curious to try O'ahu grill since I love the Kaimukī area, but I was a bit disappointed, unfortunately :-( A friend and I ordered two of the 2-item combos. One combo was pork laulau and chicken long rice, and the second combo was squid luau and tripe stew. The squid luau was pretty good and had a nice coconut flavor. But everything else was way too salty, except for the laulau, which was surprisingly bland and kind of dry... The haupia texture was too starchy. When I placed the order, I asked the staff if they could replace the lomi salmon in both combo plates with a second portion of haupia, and they said it would be no problem, but then they didn't make the adjustment. Oahu Grill Don't let the outside fool you, it is authentic! We were greeted by a very nice young lady from the Hanauma bay area. She quickly learned we were not locals and brought us several items of the Hawaiian variety to try. She explained each food item (Poi, Lomi Salmon, Squid Luau, Chicken Long Rice, and Kalua pig), provided the history and how it is typically eaten in Hawaii. They were all delicious. The Poi is more bland, but is a good balance with the Kalua Pig. Chicken Long a rice is the comparable to Chicken Noodle Soup, but with clear noodles and a little less salt. Squid Luau is very similar to Laing from the Philippines, made with coconut milk, Taro Leaves, and Octopus. Lomi Salmon is like having a fresh salsa with Salmon. For the main dishes we had pork belly and rice. The pork belly had more fat than what we usually eat at restaurants and was salty. The rice, well that's difficult to mess up. Most of the dishes had more salt than we would normally eat, but I think the food was authentic to Hawaii. The dessert was coconut flavored and delicious. The restaurant itself was pretty standard with regular tables and four chairs. It is located on the bottom floor with some window seats that looked out to the street. The building is an older building, but don't let that scare you if you're looking for good service. The best part of this experience was the server, she made us feel welcomed. After a few disappointing experiences with upscale restaurants in Waikiki, we were craving homemade, authentic Hawaiian food -- and we're so glad we found O'ahu Grill! Laulau - Packed with flavor and beautifully cooked; the leaves were tender and fell apart easily. Pipi Kaula - A bit on the tough side, but still had good flavor. Potato Crab Salad (side) - A real standout! Creamy, refreshing, and a perfect addition to the meal. Each plate came with Lomi Salmon, two scoops of rice, and a small piece of Haupia. We live out this side, so it's hard to find good hawaiian food without out going to Waimanalo or into Town - Youngs Fishmarket. The location is a bit hard to find using google maps. Its in the building half way down 11th avenue, but the parking entrance is on Harding Ave or 12th Ave. You have to take a ticket when entering the parking, be quick, pick your food on the ground floor and zoom out. There are street parking available but when we went on a Monday around 1pm we didn't want to drive around so we just parked in the paid parking lot which is an easier access to the entrance and parking was only $1.50 for 2 hours. There is a machine in the parking lot you can pay with your credit card before exiting. Instead of ordering two main dishes, we ordered a combo plate of two entrees and glad we did because the portion was huge! The flavors were spot on and seasoned well. It hit all the crunchiness and saltiness. The crispy pork belly was more fat than meat but it think it was more of a hit or miss because one of our plate was that way while the other was fine with a good mix. But the crunch was perfect. They might be a little slow depending on the day because it is a small place with only two people working (and I think one serves and one cooks?). But definitely worth the wait! read more

I do think the fat could've been more crisp but I may be biased from my experience with the cantonese dish. The house special sauce it comes with is very strong and tangy, to help cut from the fattiness. . Smoked Meat: more of a lean meat but the flavor isn't too strong, I liked dipping it in their chili pepper water for an extra kick. . Pipikaula: The most expensive meat entree on the menu, not a lot of meat and mainly bone. More on the burnt side, would skip out on ordering this next time. read more

OOOOOHHHH SOOOOO ONOOOOOOOO!!!! When my cousin said let's meet for dinner and asked what I wanted, I said Hawaiian food, but for once I didn't want to go to Helena's. Checked here and fourn O'ahu Grill! So glad I did! I agree with Paul K., it feels like you're eating at someone's house. The young girl working was sweet in a local kine way that my put some people off, but get over yourselves. I had the kalua pic and lau lau, with rice, lomi salmon and haupia came with. It was all soooooo good! So much so, I brought my parents here. They really loved everything! My mom hadn't had poi in a while and she said it was good, though the lau lau was a little fatty, but that's what makes it taste so good! I also had the chicken long rice which was delicious. My cousin liked her squid luau and I have to agree after having a taste, sooooo good! Her girlfriend had the delicious Friday special, sweet and sour spare ribs. Oh, I was kinda looking forward to mac salad but they serve a very good krab and potato salad. Overall, great place for Hawaiian food! It was getting crowded when I brought in my parents, so they're doing something right! Again, it all tastes like I was at my grandma's in Kohala, and we're having a family luau. Mahalo! My hubby got the Cobb salad with kalua pig and he said it was sooo good (he doesn't really eat salads, do this is MAJOR!) I got the lau lau plate, poi instead of rice. It was the perfect amount and everything tasted perfect! So glad we found this place (and it's not easy to find, but definitely worth looking for!) I'll keep returning! read more

Oahu Grill website says they are open till 9pm. Yelp says they are open till 9pm. Sign on the door says they are open till 9pm. Drive all the way there and they are closed at 7:30pm. No lights, no customers, no workers. read more

The smell, I am sorry but we probably should have take lunch to go, because I just couldn't get beyond the smell. Perhaps the bathrooms were having an issue that day. We came on a recommendation and sat and had lunch, staff was very friendly. I guess if you stay in the restaurant a while you stop smelling the urine odor. Not good. read more
