We love Mongolian BBQ and would normally go in to a restaursnt like this for the experience, but being on the road, we didnt have time and needed something delivered to our hotel. We each got the BBQ bowls and thought they were very generous portions, like what we would expect if we had eaten in. A wide range of options, delicious house sauce - and the food was still steaming hot inside the box. I cant remember having takeout this warm before. And the restaurant was a few miles away! My son has been raving about the spot for months and with his football games, I have not had the time. This place is amazing. The staff is all upbeat and positive starting with the hostess and her bubbly personality, she took any negative feelings we might have had away. Our server was amazing, close when we needed something, but never a bother PLUS she recommended the Jayden roll, thank you . The cook engaged and made a show of heating our food. The inside is very comfortable as well and set up to manage all of the activity that comes from making your own plates. Extensive sushi menu and bar menu too for those who want. Came here for Sushi, and it seems like this place definitely caters more toward the Mongolian BBQ offerings than Sushi. Whatevs, we wanted Sushi, so we got three rolls and they were all good, but nothing amazing. The restaurant itself is massive and has such a weird decor, but I can forgive that. Was really looking forward to this place, but it was a big disappointment. We went for my boyfriend's birthday with my daughter and were surprised to find very little options for kids. We ordered her a cucumber salad which came out extremely overdressed and eventually left without ever getting the mozzarella sticks she ordered. We had to get her a second dinner. The sushi I ordered had little to no flavor. It was pretty crowded and hard for the waiters to pass by us and the table next to us. While our waitress was friendly and apologetic for the issues we encountered, it took quite a while to get help. We don't plan on ever returning. read more

Hubs and I had a gift card and usually do lunch dates but when they changed their hours to 4pm-9pm weekdays we just couldn't make it in. We finally decided on a weeknight this past week to use our gift card remaining balance. It was a weeknight and we arrived around 8:00 pm seeing they closed at 8:30 and there was 1 other couple in the restaurant. Read the end about the gift card debacle! The staff was super friendly with conversation, especially the gentleman running the grill! We ordered the Gyoza to share and the Mongolian bowl. When we got back to the table with our bowls our Gyoza was there as was the rice, both luke warm so both were mediocre, might have been better if warmer and better timed. The bowls we made were good as you put whatever you want in them, same with the sauces, and they cook them on the big round Mongolian griddle. This visit they had no bacon to add. We got our bill and placed our gift card for check out. The gal came back and said they changed their system and cannot honor our gift card. Disappointing to say the least. It's not our fault or problem they changed system. We spoke to the manager and she explained the system they have is now not compatible and they cannot even run the card...what does that even mean? She said we had to speak with the owner so hubs called a few times the next day and nobody answers and the mailbox is full. Guess we won't be back and will have to "eat" the $50! Kahunas is absolutely wonderful. Last year we had to do a bunch of traveling with toddlers no less and stayed in Redding frequently. We use to have a Mongolian BBQ spot in SLO county that has shut down a number of years prior. So we were excited to find Kahunas and bonus they also did sushi! The food and service was incredible from the time we walked in. They even had Mac n cheese bites for the littles, but they took found themselves loving Mongolian BBQ! Veggies were so fresh, sauces and toppings galore. The staff always took the time to get the toddlers involved which was extremely kind of them. Everytime there after we were going through Redding we stopped to have some of the best food hands down you can find. We had tried another spot in Redding and the service plus food did not even compare. Sad to see Kahunas go. read more

It is filthy, from the vent that has a huge hair hall stuck in it, the dirt smeared on the doors , vomit in the sink, orange rings in the toilet and poor stained around the rim of the second stall..... this is appalling. And this was only the woman's restroom. Sushi was good, bowls good but the worst tempura ever. Veggies had gone bad and were barely chopped. Plus weird sauces with them... cocktail sauce? Weird. Service was pretty good, except that 1 roll came immediately and then food trickled out after that. The last roll came well after everyone was done eating. We thought they forgot it! A little chaotic experience if you are a first time diner which we were. Quality was mediocre. Service was alright. Buffet style and menu options available if you don't want the cook to order option. Not for us. When I dine out, IMO, I prefer not having to think too much as to how I want my seasoning. Rather have the chef prepare and staff serve. Kahunas Mongolian BBQ is a welcome unique asian eatery in the Redding area. For dinner, the restaurant was pretty busy due to the numerous high school students having per-prom night dinner. For $14.99, you can select a variety of items from meats, various veggies, noodle, tofu, and a large selection of sauces and condiments to add to your selection. They all have to fit in a reasonable sized bowl given to you by your server. You then take your selection of foods to the cooks who places the item you selected on a large round Mongolian iron stove where they cook your food selections. The meats sliced thin and the shrimp are all frozen. So it's hard to tell the quality of meats. The taste of your selection will depend on the sauce you select and the amount you put in your bowl. To assist you, there are hanging signs that gives guidance on what sauce tour and how much of each to create your desired flavor. As a bonus, a second bowl is offered on the house. This different from the "all you can eat" Mongolian BBQ places in the B SF Bay Area. That said, i enjoyed my Mongolian BBQ creation. Amazing Mongolian bbq and so many different choices. Didn't know what to expect coming here, but all the workers here were amazing. Very welcoming and let us know what to do and basically you can order sushi or get the Mongolian bbq plate. We only went through once and it was plenty and we brought some home. You can choose what meat, veggies, and noddles you want with what sauces and seasonings. You try to fill up one whole bowl with however much food you want and they cook it right in front of you. They have recipes up on the wall when choosing the sauces if you want to follow a certain taste as well. We went around 7pm on a Sunday and no one was here and we were in and out in 30 minutes. This place was appalling. Stopped in on the way home from a road trip and regretted it because: 1) No masks by the staff and no mask policy at all enforced for customers. Whatever the reason, this Yelp page needs to be updated to reflect they do not follow current guidelines 2) A proper mongolian grill has better conditions for the raw food selectetion. A hot lamp seemed to be wilting the vegetables and really highlighting the flies buzzing around the food. The meat was sitting under a warm lamp and raw meat sitting out is of course a breeding ground for bacteria (the meat was sweating so it probably felt uncomfortable too). The shrimp was swimming in a slimy pool of liquid - possibly (hopefully) melted ice? 3) The grill was caked with what was grilled on before - looked like a grill change hadn't been done in a bit. 4) Watched someone preparing sushi brush his nose with his hand then proceed to make sushi without washing his hands. Beth was our server - she was very sweet and accommodating. We left after going through the gauntlet of getting our food made and worried about the bacteria that could be festering. However if you only go up once, whatever you have as left overs, you are able to take it to go. I must say the noodles they have are different from my previous experience.. they are easily mushy and the tofu tastes a lil spoiled. With the dinner option, you get a small bowl of rice to accompany your meal. I didn't think the quality of it was good, but the price was reasonable. Came here for dinner. After a long day of driving we decided to try this place as the reviews were good and it was walking distance to our hotel. When walking in, we were not greeted but we walked into the bar area and asked if we could sit at the bar. They have a full bar. The beer selection is alright. My BF had their IPA and I got a peach mojito. We ordered a monkey roll, 7 piece nigiri, and a peppered tuna avocado roll. While we waited for our order, my BF asked the bartender for something refreshing and she made him a cucumber doll lemonade chiller. It was definitely refreshing and really went well with the sushi. Our food came and it was very delicious! Only one we didn't care for was the peppered tuna avocado roll. The rice over took the tuna and it really needed something with more texture. To market the Udon Noodles being Gluten Free so you could profit off those that can't eat Gluten is disgusting and wrong. You of all people should be ashamed for doing this. Went here for Father's Day. I must say, customer service was amazing, the food was pretty good but one thing that will make me no go back in the future is the lack of cleanliness. The display was very dusty and food was everywhere, the kitchen is disgusting, the floors disgusting, the ceilings look like they have no been cleaned in decades. I've been to Kahuna's 4 times. but will probably not go back!! Place was/is very dirty, food was everywhere!! There was No Pork or Lamb, the shrimp looked like it was a week old, No Cucumbers, an the worst, was our waitress, we got sat in the bar, we were the only couple in their tell a group of 6 came in as we were finishing, she took our order for drinks an dinner, brought our drinks, then we never saw her again tell she brought us our bill, then asking how was everything?? A bit to late for a 2nd drink that we usually have, so we went somewhere else for our after-dinner drink!! After reading some of the other reviews, I'm wondering if anyone from Kahuna's ever reads any of the reviews?? There are several mentions of how dirty the place is!!
