Saying goodbye to your best friend is never easy and I'm glad that HPC was apart of her journey to heaven. On Thursday, March 21, 2024 seemed like any other medical emergency for Nala when she's not eating. She previously had low blood glucose numbers a few nights prior and it didn't rebound as well as it normally does the days proceeding so I decided to take her in when she refused to eat as I normally do. I called the emergency line to make sure I could do a walk in for her that day and of course they said yes bring her in. The receptionists in the front already know my car and usually checks me in before I walk into the doors. What seemed like any normal visit (imo) turned out to be something different as there seemed to be something else happening to her so I would have needed to go to verc for the ultrasound to be done immediately plus a blood transfusion. Long story short - my answer from them is to euthanize her. I called my own vet to make sure that what she thinks is also the best option too and that I'm not just giving up hope on her. I also asked if I could bring her back there to euthanize her if that was also my decision and they said of course. Because honestly, I would have wanted her to go there where she was loved the most by the people who cared for her the last 4 years. I ended up coming back and the girls in the front said that I didn't have to decide right away and that I could wait for the doctor to talk to me. In between - nala perked up and gave me a glimmer of hope and I thought maybe she just didn't like it there at verc and she's here where she feels safe. Anyway, the decision then came down to let's just try - because they knew that would have been what I wanted for her. Later that night, I get a call around 11 that nala passed in her sleep peacefully. I know she was in good hands and we even got to stop by after hours to say goodbye to her... this gave me a little bit of closure because I know in my heart that I tried, but I guess her little body couldn't fight anymore and gave up ... I really have to thank HPC for all the love they've shown nala and how compassionate they were with her. I know she isn't the easiest client as she was always very mysterious... but they've not once given up hope on her no matter what happened. She was also one of the crazy aggressive dogs in the past but they've also done so well with her too. I wish her time wasn't cut so short with us ... I would have done anything for her ... and I'm happy to have found a practice that felt the same way to help her though her journeys ... Rest in love, nala. 09.12.2012 - 03.21.2024

1st time visit @ The Honolulu Pet Clinic. Introduced as a referral. Very pleased with overall impression . I was a fill-in for a cancelled appt. Pleased that they were so accommodating with an early appointment time. Felt very welcomed and comfortable the moment we stepped in. Everyone is so caring!! Dr. Yamasaki was so great. She carefully examined & explained everything so well and was so gentle with our 9 weeks old furry son Mugi, a Papillon / Fox Terrier mix. Mugi was so comfortable, he didn't even cry when given his 1st vaccine shot. Looking forward to his next & future visits with everyone there. I highly recommend The Honolulu Pet Clinic to other caring puppy parents out there and for other pet parents. I gave them 5-stars without any hesitation.

I cannot speak highly enough about the Honolulu Pet Clinic and Dr. Hsu. Moving to Honolulu four years ago, I was so fortunate to find this exceptional clinic to care for my dog. Dr. Hsu has been a lifesaver in managing my dog's Addison's disease, crafting a low-dose treatment plan that's worked flawlessly. He is always meticulous in monitoring my dog's progress, ensuring there are absolutely no side effects. The level of care and attention to detail is unmatched. My dog also struggles with osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia, and the treatment they've provided has dramatically improved his quality of life. When his blood work indicated some kidney issues from daily NSAIDs, Dr. Hsu walked me through every possible alternative option, showing compassion and patience. We tried several treatments and finally found Librela, which has worked wonders. Watching my dog move more freely and without pain has been a gift, all thanks to Dr. Hsu's expertise and dedication. The entire team at Honolulu Pet Clinic is phenomenal. The front desk staff is consistently warm and welcoming, making every visit a pleasure. Whether it's a routine appointment or a tech visit for shots, nail trims, or prescription refills, I feel like I'm part of their family. Sean, one of the amazing techs, always has everything prepped and ready to go when we arrive, and he's so kind and helpful every single time. Rachel and Patty are also incredible, kind, organized, and always up to date on what my dog, Zulu, needs. Every interaction feels personal, and they make everything so easy and stress-free. Beyond the regular care, my dog has had several emergencies, including a severe case of heat stroke. They got him in within minutes, and I can honestly say they saved his life. Dr. Hsu and his team have also been there for us after hours--even at 2 a.m., when my dog got into something he shouldn't have, Dr. Hsu was on a call to help create a plan immediately. While Dr. Hsu is my dog's primary vet, every vet at the clinic has been equally amazing. No matter who sees my dog, I know he's getting the best care possible. Every vet and staff member at this clinic is beyond exceptional. They provide detailed resources for every new treatment, and they are incredibly patient with all of my questions. Their honesty, transparency, and compassion are simply rare in today's world. They even work with Trupanion, which has saved me so much time and money, making the whole process seamless. I recommend Honolulu Pet Clinic to every pet owner and friend I meet. Dr. Hsu and his team, including Sean, Patty, and Rachel, are not only incredibly skilled but also genuinely kind, compassionate, and deeply invested in their patients' well-being. If you're looking for a clinic that treats you like family and offers the best care possible, this is it. They are truly the best in every way.

I cannot say enough amazing things about Dr. Hsu & the staff here at Honolulu Pet Clinic! We made such a good choice in establishing care with Dr. Hsu for our doggies (we started our youngest from adoption). He cares about all of his patients so much & you can really tell! The staff there are very friendly as well - shout out to Patty who is always so professional on the phone! Story time - we had an unfortunate event last year where I was house sitting for my parents & while they were away for a few weeks, my childhood cat passed away. I didn't really know what to do so we called Dr Hsu's emergency line at around 10pm & he graciously offered to take our Momo in for cremation at the late hour, even though she wasn't established with them. Besides this, the staff take really good care of our rascal dogs & we are super happy with their services provided. We have gone in for regular check ups to getting squeezed into their busy schedule for more serious issues too. Mahalo Dr Hsu & staff for everything you guys do!

I had decided to get an appointment for Mr. Look Yau Mo/ Buttfurs for his neuter here in April 2020. Dr. Hsu did his surgery. I followed the prep instructions provided by the receptionist on not feeding him after a certain time (As a way to prevent vomiting during sedation during surgery and potential choking hazard - happens to people too! Please carefully follow instructions before procedures and surgeries, no joke!), then dropped him off in the morning before work. Since neuter/spay are very routine surgeries, I was not worried at all. I trusted in Dr's expertise. I wanted to formally adopt Buttfurs and keep him a house cat. To do that I needed him neutered so he would not feel the testosterone urges to "prison break" out of the house at 3am to do cat gigolo things. It would also keep him safe from all his illegal street cat fighting and shenanigans. I also wanted to get his teeth cleaned and checked out while he was sedated. He only had maybe 7 toofs left when I found him. And to call me if there was going to be further action done on the teeth. Dr. Hsu called to notify me that after he did the teeth cleaning and flaking off all the tartar that Buttfurs' teeth were in pretty bad shape. The roots were exposed. Dr said this may cause him pain when he eats. He recommended we pulled them now as they will decay and would need to be pulled out in the future. I didn't want Buttfurs to not have any teeth left. So I agreed to have a few taken out but keep the 3 canines he still had. As he seemed to do okay with them. Yo... TEETH ARE EXPENSIVE! Human or animal, there is no discrimination ;c lol. When I went to pick up Buttfurs at the scheduled time, I was told something along the lines that "he was still oozing" and "they wanted to keep him for observation to be safe" :O I was devastated and shocked! My poor baby... what did I put him through?!?! I cried, so worried... I didn't know if it was life threatening... I didn't understand the situation fully. I just felt overwhelmed and uninformed. I was super emotional. One of the vet techs offered to send me a picture of him. He was recovering in a cage with his 'cone of shame'. Seeing that picture reassured me. I'm very thankful for her empathy. I was told that Dr. Hsu would go back into the surgical site to check if anything was wrong and to see why meow was still oozing. Dr. Hsu called me back to inform me that after checking, there was no abnormality identified to be the cause and that they'd hold him overnight. I called the next morning to see how meow was doing. I had a hard time sleeping, still worried to death. I was told by Patty that a vet tech would call me for the update. I was worried if he got to eat anything, he's a hungry boy so I didn't want him to starve. What did he eat? What time did he eat? If he used the bathroom okay. If he's still "oozing". What exactly is he oozing? Why was it happening? Etc. Someone called me back and told me basically "yeah he did eat, yeah he went to the bathroom" and that was it :/ I called again a few hours later and Jessica answered. I informed her I was checking on my cat. I was still super worried and emotional about his well-being. Her response was really callous and accusatory, she said "Didn't you already call earlier?" Yes... I did... but I am checking on him. He's my pet and I am very worried. I took him here to have routine surgery and then these complications happened. I didn't know what is going on. I just wanted to know. I'm not sure why I was made to feel like I was asking for a lot? Maybe she was having an off day. I didn't want to be a nuisance. But I've heard from friends that had experienced surgery for their pets that this is normal information that's freely given. I was told later on that day I could pick him up. I was still on and off crying every time I'd think about meow. I was distraught. I got to the clinic and luckily Dr. Hsu spoke with me about the whole situation. I just wanted an understanding of the whole procedure in layman terms. He was able to provide that for me. I took Buttfurs home and watched him recover. I still felt so guilty. I was told to use newspaper for his litter while he was healing to keep the incision site clean. As it is usually not stitched up in boy cats. And that within 14 days he'd hopefully chill out with the testosterone-driven need to "prison break" from home and for the remaining amount left in his system to dissipate. That was correct. I do not think Dr. Hsu did anything wrong on his part for the surgery but I was definitely not prepared for the possibilities of complications. Maybe I skipped the whole part that explained it when I signed the forms. But maybe emphasize those risks, benefits, other treatment options available and more to pet owners. So they can make informed decisions. And better emotional sensitivity training or protocols on what to do when shift happens for staff about how to handle similar situations better? Just suggestions :)

I'm still in love with them. Answer phones quickly, polite forward records to my new vet promptly. Now I'm moving back to Hawaii and my rabies vaccine got lost in the move so I'm needing a new copy and they are mailing me a new one. I remember him calling my Stormy rose and grey color. I love that. My favorite vet!

Finally playing with toys again after they started treatment at THPC.

This clinic saved my dog's life. Trilby is fantastic, Patty is fantastic, Sean is fantastic, Dr. Hsu is fantastic! Everyone here is just top notch. My dog is almost 10 years old and has struggled with vomiting and diarrhea his whole life. We have been to numerous veterinarians who have been unable (or unwilling) to determine the cause. I'm talking thousands of dollars spent looking for answers, but never getting any closer to a solution. It recently got so bad that he had to be hospitalized at VCA, and even after the three days he was with them, they still were not able to determine the cause. After I did a bit of my own research and reviewed his records from the hospitalization, I discovered some details that they somehow missed (or ignored). My friend recommended Dr. Hsu because he took such great care of her dog years ago. I reached out to him in desperation. My dog was down to almost half his normal weight and refusing to eat. He was dying from something that is easily treatable, but it felt like I was having such a difficult time getting anyone to listen to me. Dr. Hsu arranged for him to be seen right away and got him on the proper treatment. They were so reasonable with their pricing. While other clinics made me feel like they were just trying to tack on charge after charge of unnecessary tests and treatments, he didn't do that. He really cares for the animals he treats and he is knowledgeable, attentive, and caring. I carried in a listless, exhausted dog with no appetite and after 2 nights with Dr. Hsu, he looked a thousand times better than when VCA had discharged him after 3 nights. I am so grateful to everyone at THPC involved in my sweet boy's recovery. He's now back to his normal weight and the vomiting and diarrhea that he's had his entire life seem to have stopped completely.

**warning, sad story** My mom and I had been taking our dog to Dr. Hsu at Honolulu Pet Clinic for 2-3 years, ever since we adopted him as a rescue. Our tried-and-true family vets retired and it was a difficult process finding a reputable vet in Honolulu; but we finally landed on this clinic. In May, we brought in our dog for the last time. He was not acting himself -- lethargic, no energy, low appetite, and diarrhea. It was extremely worrisome for our high-energy always hungry dog to be acting this way. Dr. couldn't see anything wrong from the Xrays, aside from the pretty serious arthritis in his hips which we already knew about. Dr. Hsu prescribed a dose of Librella, an injection used to treat arthritis. Our dog went home and we saw no improvement. In fact, his stomach got very bloated, so we brought him back. Dr. said the bloating was caused by excessive panting from the pain so he prescribed him stronger pain killers. I won't painstakingly detail the rest, but when we saw how our dog's stomach looked the next morning, we immediately called back the vet, and they asked us to drop off a fecal sample. We decided instead to rush him to VERC Emergency Vet on Nimitz (amazing emergency vets who had previously treated our dog and performed surgery when he got hit by a car) and were given the news that we'd have to put him down. They told us his stomach had ruptured -- and fluids were leaking into his abdomen, which was all caused by the course of treatment from Dr Hsu and his staff. Now, I understand that medicine is a tricky thing and often trial and error. And misdiagnoses do happen. What breaks my heart is that when we called Honolulu Pet Clinic to break the news, Dr. Hsu insisted on fighting with us, defending his position, and absolving himself of all responsibility. "You don't understand -- we're putting our dog to sleep," we said; Our beautiful baby in the family who at the age of 11 still had many potential years of life ahead. We received a condolence letter in the mail from the emergency vet but nothing from Dr Hsu and Honolulu Pet Clinic, who we had trusted with the care of our baby. When we came to pick up his medical records we were snubbed by all his staff in the office. Not even so much as a word of sympathy. I have never felt so betrayed and devastated by a team of professionals in my life. I strongly urge you to stay away from this place and if in doubt, please seek a second opinion regarding the care of your fur babies.

When I left the country for 2 weeks I boarded him at Wags n Wings after they were recommended to me by a friend. On the first day I got a call from Rya that Cloud was not acclimating to daycare. However she was able to coordinate with my vet to pick up medication to make Cloud's stay more comfortable. She even sent daily pictures and messages keep me updated on his status. After a few days went by Cloud had toned down on the crying and clawing at the walls and had even made some doggy friends. I went from constantly being worried to being able to enjoy my time abroad. Reservations can be made online and the staff are responsive if you have questions or need to make changes to your reservation. The dogs stay in kennels overnight and there is someone onsite 24/7, which gives you peace of mind. They also charge by night (versus by hour) which has made drop off and pick up very convenient, especially if you have schedule changes and need to adjust the drop off/pickup times. They also don't charge you until after the stay is complete and your pet is safely checked out, which I appreciate. I have heard that they can get busy at certain times through the year, so be sure to book your reservation in advance. They also close once a year during the first or so week in December, so do not travel at that time or you'll end up having to take your pet elsewhere like me :( lol I highly recommend Wags 'n' Wings for your pet's daycare/boarding needs. They are responsive, organized and genuinely care for your pets.

From the very beginning, Stephanie at Loving Paws Dog Boarding was incredibly well-organized and provided detailed instructions for everything needed--nothing was overlooked. During our initial visit, K.O. immediately took to her, which gave us instant peace of mind. Stephanie has such a warm and calm presence, and it's clear she genuinely loves and understands dogs. She also sent us photo updates throughout K.O.'s stay. In the first photos, he looked a little shy (totally expected for a young pup), but by the end, he was happy, relaxed, and playing with his new furry friends. It was such a relief and joy to see him so comfortable and having fun! We're beyond grateful for the care and attention Stephanie gave to our pup. We'll definitely be bringing K.O. back for future stays. If you're looking for a thoughtful, reliable, and truly loving dog boarding experience--Loving Paws Dog Boarding is it!

I learned so much about my dogs just from the original assessment. I now take my dogs there for day care, grooming and boarding. The dogs were reactive to other dogs before I started taking them and the socialization with other dogs and handlers has helped them so much. Now they are protective, not reactive, which is what I want. All the staff are wonderful and make the transfer easy and most importantly the dogs jump in the car to go and are happy when we get there. One of my dogs I had to manhandle to get in the car previously. Thats not easy with a muscled 45 pound dog!

The Pounce staff took it in stride and didn't force interaction. They gave our kitties the freedom to explore the ample amenities in their room, and mainly interacted for room servicing and checking on their welfare. When I picked them up, they appeared calm and receptive and when released back in our home, they readjusted within and a matter of minutes. They weren't suffering cat-ptsd from a stressful boarding experience. Pounce boarding policies require your kitty to be up-to-date with vaccinations and tick/mite meds. which ensures a medically safe stay for all boarders. The staff's cumulative experience and their well-appointed room translated to a very positive boarding experience for our kitties.

Here is my story: I usually have my cats under control at home or cat boarding at my veterinarian's location when I travel. but shucks! I wasn't lucky this past weekend. The other side of the coin is I was lucky because I found Pounce. A couple points 1. a walking distance to my office 2. pricing comparable to what my vet would charge 3. please environment for my felines 4. easy drop off easy pick up 5. daily follow up with pics of my felines from Pounce 6. comprehensive schedule of their stay; to and including when they use the bathroom... go figure! 7. they can/will administer meds if need be (one of my girls has asthma) My felines while happy to return home with me were treated with kindness and care. I will always go to Pounce from now on. Now then, the facility- clean, climate and air controlled facilities. I went to the Queen Street location and parking was easy. Right in front. You will need to call them when you get there. The doors are closed (for obvious reasons) and one of the gals will come out to get you. Same process on the way out! They have your fur babies all packed up and ready to go. Call them and they will wheel them out to your car!!! Sadly, I won't be boarding my felines at my vet any more as I'm so pleased with Pounce. Imagine! My own vet who cares for my fur babies want to charge you all sorts of things to board. Forget that; especially since my felines were not strangers to the vet clinic. But now! my felines are no longer strangers to Pounce. A definite must try if you have felines to board!

We just had a short trip outerisland, but couldn't bring our fir babies. Usually the parents or a friend can watch out pups, but not this time around. We called around and found it very challenging, almost like sending a toddler to daycare for the first time, they need vet records and a company to vouch that your pup isn't crazy and dangerous to others. We called these folks and they were very friendly and made it as easier to request vet records and willing to do trial run overnight to see how our dogs would do. We drove down and it's a little confusing to find, but basically aim for Salz Lock and Safe, pull into their parking and continue to the chain link fence and you'll see it mountain side. We met the couple that takes care of the fur babies. They were very welcoming and most importantly our dogs sixth sense accepted them right away. Their tails kept wagging, which made us feel better. Our dogs actually shake when we go to the vet and tail down, between the legs. We provided food for the morning, leashes and harness and that's it. They recommended not bring the beds because other dogs might mark them, since it's not a kennel environment. They can walk freely in the rooms and act like they do at home. We left them overnight and we're ready for a phone call, but no complaints came. Then in the morning we went to pick them up. On arrival the couple were still their smiling with our pups. Our dogs seemed happy with their tails wagging. They reported back to us how the dogs did and everything went well. I would recommend Barks and Purrs, because they genuinely seem to care for our dogs. Our dogs were happy and we felt safe to have them watched there.

Can't ask for a better location, just drop off your baby, and you can access the highway nearby heading either east or west. Richard is fantastic, very knowledgeable and he has such a way with animals. My little pupster gets super excited when we get there and now when I say "doggie daycare" he starts running around in circles and heads to the car, ready to go. He always looks forward to going to visit Richard and his furry friends. He comes home absolutely wore out. He wolfs down his dinner and then sprawls out on the floor to sleep. Richard is flexible with scheduling and very responsive and communicative. They also offer bathing services on site which you can avail yourself to while your fur baby stays in their care. I send my pup 2 days a week so that he gets much needed socialization and I get peace of mind knowing he's in capable hands.
