My first visit and my last! Right before I entered the restaurant I saw someone come in and leave right away. There were no menu descriptions or signs or pricing readily available. It was a bit strange that I was the only customer. Literally should have taken all these signs to leave. I decided to stay to just give it a try but little did I know this experience would turn sour. I ordered breakfast, assuming it was a silog. A silog is sinanag (garlic rice) + itlog (fried egg) + meat of your choice. I chose daing (fried milkfish) and added and paid extra for additional longanisa sausage. The staff person puts my order together then charges me, bags it up, and says thank you. Not the nicest person I ever met, but they did their job. I waited for a minute and assumed they would be frying up my egg, but no. I asked if she put the egg inside (because maybe I missed it), but no. The person said egg would be an extra item! I probably should have left, but I was craving Filipino breakfast so bad! I still ordered a fried egg, waited, paid extra, and left. The longanisa was surprisingly larger than most, the daing fish was smaller than most, garlic rice was plentiful than most, and the basic fried egg that I paid extra for still haunts me! The meal did satisfy my Filipino breakfast craving, but I ridiculously paid more than I intended!

Kainan sa Kanto is a "Turo Turo" (translation: point point) style Filipino restaurant. That means that the food is laid out like a fast food Chinese restaurant and you simply point at what you want. You can get lechon, tocino, Filipino BBQ, garlic rice, adobo, turon, and and all the classic, crowd pleasing Filipino staples at a pretty reasonable price and you take it to go. It's not intended to be a dine in restaurant in any way, but that's what it is. The food is reasonably priced, and they're open promptly at 7am, which is perfect if I want to pick up a lunch before work. Incidentally, this is why I come here: I come here at 7am before work for phone orders for catering for work potlucks. (Note: I order 1-2 days ahead). Today, I got a half tray of pancit bihon for $55. I've ordered lumpia Shanghai from here and it was also popular (though I'd recommend that you get your own sweet chili sauce from your local Asian market as the sauce isn't great from here). If you are looking for made to order Filipino food to dine in with friends, then this is not it. I believe food is cooked mostly in the morning, so your miles may vary depending on when you come in; however my experience for Filipino breakfast and lunch is pretty reliable and it's pretty convenient for my catering needs.

9/19/24 Picking up food for auntie. While in town, I am missing the food from Kainan sa Kanto. As usual, Jose is there to greet me & said "See you next time" as I was leaving. Got some fried milkfish (bangus), veggies (green beans & cabocha combo and an order of pansit for auntie as requested. I bought beefsteak for Hubby. Theirs is usually good. The food wasn't looking particularly fresh as it is later in the day but I am hoping it's still as good as I remember it to be. There's still a lot of selection to choose from, the usual dinuguan, adobo, nenudo, ampalaya, embutido, bbq pork & chicken, etc. Only 2 turon but I resisted the purchase lol Will see when we eat the beefsteak later when we get home

I ordered the unhealthy stuff. lol Sisig & lechon kawali with garlic rice. Everything was delicious & they had many options. However, I was disappointed they didn't have the most basic soup dishes like tinola or sinigang. I needed that to help with the greasy things I ordered. Fair prices. The little store was jam packed with Filipino goodies everywhere. The auntie wasn't smiling much, but it's ok the food is delicious so I'll definitely be back.

Nice to know this place is local when I have cravings for fried pork belly. Normally the one at grocery stores can be tough but the lechon here was fatty, soft, crispy and meaty. I was happy. Came in on a Friday around 5:15pm? Was scared of slim picking but they still had a lot to offer. Their sisig has onions and bell peppers if you like that go for it. The turon was not as bad as it may look. The plantain was sweet and medium soft/firm. They have some seating but for the most part I think people just grab and go. It's nice they offer baked goods and even some grocery items. I prefer these mom and pop places b/c it's like someone's recipes etc. Every place is slightly different and you just look for which place you prefer.

More of like a 3.5 to me. I saw a review suggesting this place is better than Pinoy Pinay down the street (which I've frequented since I was a kid), but I don't feel the same way. The food just isn't as fresh, and way too pricy for the portions. However, they do have a lot of options to choose from and the flavors were good, nothing special. I feel like they'd be 5x better if the food was actually hot, but even sitting under warmers the food was kind of cold, and we dined in immediately after ordering. What we ordered: Two combo 2's, which comes with rice and two entrees. We did pancit, pork sisig, and bangus. We also got 10pc lumpia (45¢ per piece) and a chicken empanada. All the food had good flavor. I see a lot of reviews related to catering that praise the taste of the food which I totally agree with, however the difference in freshness is my issue. Bangus barely had any meat on it. Lumpia was cold as hell but surprisingly still very crispy. Empanada was good but nothing special. Total price came out to $38 for everything, which I feel like I could pay the same price for two people at a buffet in the area, or pay less at Pinoy Pinay. You could even pay this much and get way more food at Gerry's Grill.

Super great food, quick service, and lots of options! The food tasted pretty fresh when I came around 12PM on a Wednesday. It was warm, soft, and had really good authentic flavor. Good seating and feels clean, but wish there was more space in case I came in a larger group. The menu is also a bit confusing, so it would be great if there was a more prominent and clearer signage with menu options and pricing. There was also not any signage for the food on display, so it would be helpful to know the names of the food. Overall, great place if you're looking for delicious authentic Filipino food.

Kainan Sa Kanto on Del Amo Blvd. in Lakewood is a hidden gem serving up delicious Filipino fare that will remind you of your Lola's or Ate's cooking. The star of the show here is definitely the lechon. The crispy skin gives way to perfectly tender meat, making it an absolute must-try. Every bite is a flavor explosion! They have a great selection of other dishes too. The pancit was another favorite, with a savory and satisfying taste. The chicken adobo was classically delicious, and the bbq skewers offered a delightful sweet and salty balance. For the more adventurous eaters, I recommend trying the cow tripe with peanut sauce kari kari. It was surprisingly tasty and well-prepared. No Filipino meal is complete without dessert, and Kainan Sa Kanto doesn't disappoint. Their turon, those amazing sweet egg rolls filled with plantains, are simply divine. And to cool off after a satisfying meal, their halo halo is the perfect way to end your visit. Overall, Kainan Sa Kanto is a fantastic restaurant that offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere along with incredible homemade Filipino food. I highly recommend checking it out! We have held a baby shower party for our daughter here and she and her husband were happy with the turnout and the outcome then. With such wonderful experience here, we decided to celebrate my wife's milestone birthday with a buffet lunch here last Saturday, July 25. I really appreciate the great collaboration through easy communication and coordination with Jenny, their manager here. She helped me ensure all went well from preparation to execution of the celebration. Almost all our guests raved about how good and delicious the foods were, even their lemongrass iced tea, which a lot of them loved. The costs were fair and reasonable as well as some special accommodations and a couple of complimentary food items by the owner for us for hosting our party here at their Mekeni Restaurant. Thank You and Kudos to the staff for their friendly, consistent, reliable and great overall service their crew and staff rendered to us that day. The team was headed by Jenny, Vanessa and Robert! Aside from the fact that they could have had more electric fans there that day to regulate the uncomfortable warm temperature inside the restaurant that day, everything else went very well and wonderful. We highly recommend Mekeni Pinoy's Pride for dining in, picking up and also having parties to celebrate special events. Let us all continue supporting this Filipino restaurant which makes truly very good quality and delicious Filipino dishes at reasonable prices! Let's Come on down to Mekeni's!

TLDR: It's an overpriced buffet for $25 given the options. If they'd drop the price to..... $20,…read morebut more realistically $23, it MIGHT be worth it. I also feel that the place would be better if they included all the staple Filipino breakfast items (Pandesal, Corned beef, Filipino hotdog, bangus). The taste is arguably 4 stars, but the price point drops the overall feeling to 3-3.5 stars. Food Tocino - It's fine. It tasted kind of store bought, but I think it's good enough to get a few times. Longganisa - It's just.... bad. They were trying to go for the sweet style longganisa, but it missed the spot completely. Beef Tapa - Probably the best option from the viands made available. It's the right blend of saltiness and sourness. The beef also had a good texture. Garlic Rice - I'm glad they didn't mess up one of the cornerstones of Filipino breakfast. It could've been better, but the general quality of the food here was already low enough that it made this one of the better items. Pancit Guisado - Dry, filled with starch filled lobster balls, and could generally use some more stuff in it. I regret getting this and should've eaten more garlic rice Fried Shrimp - I'm glad it's easy to peel, but the shrimp itself is generally flavorless. Egg - I was scared that these mass produced eggs may not have had a runny yolk, but I'm glad to see enough liquid to praise it Tokwa't baboy - The bronze medalist of the meal. The fried tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pork belly is on the drier end, but it's small enough that it's not hard to eat. Nilaga - Good. Probably my favorite bite. It's seasoned well, the beef is soft, and there's a good amount of vegetables. Champorado - Decent. Shame that I didn't see the milk when I was getting it. Maybe they ran out, maybe they were refilling it as I was getting. Buko Pandan - Very good. Is it store bought? Maybe. It doesn't matter, still good. Service: You pay first before you're assigned a table. There are a lot of staff who are there to keep the tables clean and to mix the food every now and then to prevent the tray from drying out. Ambiance: Bright, spacious, and inviting. A very good place to have Sunday breakfast / brunch.

It's listed on the menu as an appetizer but I could eat this on its own with just white rice and be perfectly fine with not ordering anything else. Pork skewers: Slightly sweet and smoky pork bbq.
