We went to Kai's for dinner and it was terrific! It's also in the same strip mall as the best Thai food in the western suburbs, Na's Thai. We ordered the edamame and the bluefin sashimi to start. The bluefin was excellent and larger than I expected. Definitely order this again. Also had the Thai curry ramen with shrimp. This is a heavy coconut soup and not very spicy. I recently ordered the Spicy Crunchy Roll with tuna and cucumber, the Teriyaki Beef and fried rice. The sushi was delicious, as always, but the Teriyaki Beef was a disappointment; I've ordered it in the restaurant and the meat was perfectly cooked to temp (rare) but I ordered the same thing via delivery app and the steak was - to be generous - well-done,, chewy and dry. It's hard to get service quickly, but I usually come in when it's busy, so it is understandable that it would take a few minutes, especially with how few waiters they have. A friend was visiting from out of town and staying in Chanhassen. As we're both fans of sushi, we decided to hit this place up. Glad I did! The chicken hibachi meal was both delicious and tasty for $18.95. A very good salad with a delicious ginger dressing. Simple ingredients--lettuce and red cabbage. The dressing had subtle tones of ginger and soy...I believe a hint of wasabi as well. The rice was cooked to perfection and was just that--rice. Vegetables are a far better selection then you would find at Benihana. Broccoli, carrots, onion, mushroom, squash, and zucchini...nice assortment that helped balance the meal out. Two dipping sauces included--your typical "yum yum" sauce, as well as a miso-soy-onion sauce. The miso sauce was good on the rice as well. With the large meal, I only went with a simple sushi roll. The roll was well constructed (i.e. it didn't fall apart) and the rice had a nice vinegar taste to it. The older lady (I think she was in charge) was very good about coming around and making sure we were taken care of. This might well be my last Twin Cities Yelp review, as I'm moving within the next week. Glad to have a good experience to go out on! read more

I was hungry after visiting Paisley Park so I googled " Sushi Near me" and went in for take out. Parking: A lot. Atmosphere: Cozy Food: I ordered the gyoza, garlic edamame and the Dragon roll. The gyoza had no taste. The garlic edamame was good! I enjoyed! The Dragon roll was ok. it didn't seem fresh. I've had better. This restaurant plays with my heart. I love their food but I hate the wait. You can order through the website however it does not give order updates. There have been multiple occasions where I have shown up to pick up my order and 10-20 people are standing around waiting for food they ordered 45+ minutes ago. Only the front 3 people in line ever get to check in with the host so you never know if it is your order that is actually ready on the table inside. Second time eating at here, and it has been wonderful again! This time I went with a friend, and the server we had was very nice and funny and attentive. So everything was great as normal, but this time I wanted to try something different and got the "Pokémon rolls", which were ~$18. I love Pokémon so wanted to chance it. It ended up being extremely delicious! I didn't think I'd like it so much and would have been simply okay or "good enough", but I know I'll want that again at some point! Also the worst chairs in the restaurant business. I switched chairs three times and they were all uncomfortable. Extremely disappointed! My SO and I are long time Kai patrons. We dined there once a week prior to the Rona and have ordered takeout regularly ever since. Today I phoned in our usual takeout order at 1:30 PM and was informed by the woman I spoke with that Kai would not honor my selection of the Philadelphia Roll in my "lunch special" order. I explained that it is included as an option on their lunch menu (see attached), but she insisted "you pay for it if you want it. You look at old menu". As you can see from the time stamp a few minutes ago, the menu currently reflects the Philadelphia Roll included in Kai's lunch special, which we ordered many times before without incident. Clearly, the customer (and Kai's own menu) isn't right or respected. This experience follows another when I left my brand new Quay sunglasses on the desk while I signed my takeout check. I realized what I had done once I got to my car. I promptly went inside the restaurant (empty of patrons at the time) looking for my sunglasses, but they were not where I left them. I asked the hostess, and she informed me they did not see any glasses. Odd. To add, I routinely request extra wasabi and chop sticks....which they routinely fail to provide despite my asking them to confirm at the point of pick-up if it was put in the bag. Food is good, but the service is beyond dreadful! Today was the LAST straw. Kai lost my business for good. They are not the only sushi game in Chanhassen and are certainly not worth the hassle. read more

Based on the reviews we decided to try it. We sat at the sushi bar. The display of the fishes was massy, they were not cover, it looks messy and dirty. Also the glass was dirty. I should it leave but we decided to stay. We had hamachi jalapeño, it was ok, nothing special. I decided to try the tempura, it was doughy. Bathrooms were dirty. Easy to use online takeout ordering system! I had driven past this place for years but never stopped until I had this sushi craving. I ordered the lunch deal of two rolls with a salad for $10. A super great deal! I arrived and the staff was friendly and said it would be about 5 minutes until my order was ready (as i ordered when I was in the parking lot). I waited and it was ready pretty quickly. The food was okay, not the most amazing sushi, but pretty good. The salad was subpar, even just being a side salad. We ordered NY strip tataki, Alaskan rolls, no 9, 78th St Roll, Gyoza, shumai, pineapple, chicken, and shrimp fried rice, spicy Yaki noodles. You can tell the dumplings are made in house. Positives were that it arrived faster than they said and still loved the salmon roll. Two cons: one the spicy platter my husband got that was not good. while I know is a cheaper roll but not even worth the money (the fish was completely shredded and he didn't even finish them). Second was the sassy girl roll I had. While the flavor was ok, both my husband and I agreed we couldn't even see the fish nor taste it. I was really surprised by this.
