Have been wanting to try this place for a long while and finally did. Portion was great for 11 bucks (the jewelry box). There were tamago, salmon roes, tuna, salmon. Downside is that the it wasn't very flavorful- would be better if the fish were marinated a bit better or some soy sauce was added. Rice was a bit dry. It also came with some picked ginger. Had the salmon chirashi recently. Not a lot of fish for the price you pay (and overall quite a thin layer of food), but the quality of fish is pretty good, especially the salmon. I'd say it was definitely a lighter meal than normal. (I got a black sesame shake at the place next to Tsujita and that was pretty filling, so the amount in the chirashi bowl was enough for me.) Tsujita - They changed. I was big fan of Tsujita, but no longer. This place did not take out service, but they changed policy few years ago. Since they start take-out, everyhing changed. Yesterday I stop by here and order one salmon, two sacllop bento. The guy behind of counter was not famillar with POS machine and it tooks so long to take it order. When foods is ready, the young girl who was woking in kitchen, just drop bento on the food counter. So, some of food topping jumping and drop on the food counter. The guy just touch it by hand and put it back very quickly. (No glove, No tong) What a dirty? Do I eat this? And I ask what are you doing? they said I did not do anything. That's it. Food sanitation is most important at raw fish restaurant. Bad attitute, not impressed taste any more. I will not be back again. read more

When I go to Mitsuwa I have to mentally prepare myself to search for parking, wait on long lines and hover over people to snatch a table as quickly as possible. Majority of ppl are there for Ramen, but luckily there is Tsujita which offers charashi bowls. Their lines are short and wait time for the food is quick as well. I recommend the Jewelry Box Standard which contains salmon, tuna, roe, some veggies, and other tasty items laid on a bed of sushi rice. All this for only $9.95. The fish is fresh and the sushi rice is perfect. If you are a big eater, you might still be hungry after the bowl. Lucky for me there is ice cream available on the premises. read more

They have six types for you to choose from: Three "Jewelry Boxes" (regular, premium, and platinum), and three types of bara chirashi (salmon/salmon and ikura, scallops, and unagi). I went with the salmon and ikura. Salmon and Ikura Bara Chirashi ($13.50): The box has salmon, salmon roe, and negitoro ("fatty tuna") over plenty of white rice and topped with diced cucumber and egg. I was surprised by the quality and freshness. There was no fishy-smell at all, and the salmon I received had a great color to it; it tasted "clean," as well. Portions are on point and the price was definitely reasonable. I'll be back to try the platinum "jewelry box" the next time I'm at Mitsuwa. This place is awesome! It truly provides authentic Japanese kaisen don- if you actually know what it is. The rice is mixed with a kind of Japanese hurb, shiso, and topped with several kind of mixed raw fish. For 10 dollars, you get a bowl of sashimi over rice with a small bowl of miso soup, and for 16 dollars you get several pieces of uni mixed with the sashimi. Both sets are just delicious. If you like uni, you have to try the uni set. You can also upgrade the miso soup with one more dollar to a small bowl of undo noodle soup. The sashimi is always fresh, the smell and taste of shiso is so good and something hard to find in NJ and NY. Long lines on the weekends, but This is no line during weekdays. I first tried Tsujita awhile back when they had some interesting dan dan udon dishes. It was definitely different but ultimately I preferred the more traditional udon soup flavors so it wasn't something I felt I had to try again. Then last week I walked past and noticed that they had changed their entire menu. No more udon at all. I guess maybe they felt it wasn't possible to do good udon takeout? Instead, their entire menu consisted of just 2 grilled items: shrimp (shell on) and ribeye steak (cut into smaller chunks). So basically they're selling takeout lunch plates of either all shrimp, all steak, or a combo of both. With your choice of white rice or garlic rice (extra $1 charge) and veggies or pasta salad. Enticed by the yummy-looking photos, I decided to try out the combo platter. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when the actual dish didn't look as good as in the pictures. The takeout box is split into 3 compartments (2 small, 1 big) where you have the veggie/pasta salad portion in the top left small compartment and the rice in the top right small. The bottom large compartment is taken up first by a bed of shredded cabbage. Then they put 2 containers of sauce (the usual sesame dressing for the cabbage in one and then this wasabi based sauce in the other) on top to one side and the entree covers the rest. First off, really? You're going to put the sauces IN the entree section? Those 2 circle containers take up almost 1/3 of the section. Space that could be much better used by actually PUTTING MORE OF THE ENTREE IN IT. Considering that I'm paying almost $20 for the combo, this isn't a good look is what I'm saying. However, the saving grace is that I actually liked the food. The shrimp, while smaller than expected, wasn't bad. But still not good enough for me to try again. The pasta salad and garlic rice were yummy and the ribeye was excellent. Really good. I'd go again just for the ribeye. I'm still a little confused as to what the wasabi sauce was for as it didn't seem to go with either the shrimp or the ribeye. So anyway, for me, the combo platter wasn't worth the price. I would definitely go back again just for the ribeye platter though. I could definitely eat that all day. read more

Some Yelpers are giving unfair negative reviews but they are in the wrong place if they are expecting super high quality gourmet sushi for mere $10-$15. By far the best Chirashi per $ in the NYC area. Their ingredients are fresh, and the flavored rice is tasty. I think Tsujiya gives generous amount of protein. It's colorful and quick. You might need to wait longer for other options in the food cost, but Tsujiya, most of the time, really quick, efficient, and don't have to wait in line. FOOD\\ Specializing in Edo style Chirashi zushi bowls (or rather boxes now), or "scattered" sushi over vinegared rice. Quality and portions are very good for the price. No fishy taste at all from the ikura. The top of is scattered with diced Japanese omelette, and cucumber over a bed of tuna mince, a sprinkling of salmon roe/ikura, and your chosen main (eel, scallop, shrimp, or salmon), which sit atop vinegared rice that has had soy sauce poured over it. It is then all garnished with chopped shiso, minced takuan, and a dollop of wasabi. They give you extra soy, but you don't really need it. With the wasabi mixed in, I think it's just right. If I lived near here, I'd probably eat here often. Compared to what you'd get at your local sushi place for a chirashi don, I think it'd be hard to beat Tsujita's quality and price. Granted, there wasn't as much fish as I would've liked, but it reflects the price. Downside is there is no take-out. Cash only. If I could, I would of given it a -0 on the rating. I was looking forward to stop by Misuwa, one of my favorite supermarket and have lunch as well. I ordered a Uni Chirashi Bowl which came out to $22.37 plus they asked for tips, total to $26.00. This is a stall located inside a supermarket. It is not a sit down restaurant. When I picked up the bowl, the size of the bowl is something one would give to a young child. It was no more than 5" wide. There was 1 uni, not fresh at all. There were a few pieces of diced tuna, 1 shrimp, and minced cucumber and minced eggs served on top of about 3 to 4 tablespoons of cold rice which tasted like over night rice. It was hard and cold. I was so disappointed at the quality and the serving of this bowl. I wouldn't pay $5.00 for this poor, subpar, worthlessness of what they called an uni bowl had I would of seen it before making the purchase. Never again!!!! read more

This stall took the place of the old udon stall and I'm happy that they're here! This place specializes in Edomae chirashi sushi (I don't know exactly what that is but it tastes great). The menu is fairly focused with about 6 variations of the signature dish, chirashi. Chirashi here is served as different types of fish, either sliced or chopped over a bed of seasoned sushi rice. It's always made to order fresh (so expect about a 10 minute wait for your food) and pretty reasonable. Prices range from 8 bucks to 18 for their high end version. This food court has always lacked a good sushi option and now its finally here. read more

their menu layout has changed - they now only have one option that has smaller pieces of mixed fish. you can still add different items ala carte; i got the $12.95 salmon + salmon roe bowl, with a sea urchin add on. in the middle of the afternoon on a thursday, the wait was brief, and the fish was great. it's not the highest grade pieces, and the salmon is a little on the pale side, but the taste is there, and ikura always makes everything better. i was pleased with the uni - side order for $8 still seems high, but not unreasonable. the two pieces of tamago were on the bland and rubbery side, which is a shame because i love tamago. i like kaisen-don more than i like tendon or ramen (shhhh don't tell!) so this is my go to spot when i'm at mitsuwa. i'm a little disappointed by the menu change, since i really like being able to get a variety of types of fish, and i think the prices may have gone up (though not astronomically). read more

I usually get the jewelry box standard (or deluxe if I want uni!) which contains salmon, tuna, fish roe, eggs, cucumber, some minty vegetable thing, and of course wasabi. If you don't like wasabi, you can take it out. I usually mix the wasabi into my soy sauce and dump it all on top of the chirashi evenly. Most chirashi places give you some random thin slices of fish without any thought into the combination of pieces they're giving you, but Tsujita's combination of fish, and fish roe (both big and small) really tastes great. read more

I ordered a Chirashi Sushi Bowl Matsu which is 16 dollars, another dollar you can replace the miso soup with udon noodle. The wait is ridiculously long, but I figure good food is always worth the wait, but not this whatever it is. Firstable, all of the ingredients are mused together, not mixed, mushed. It gives off very unpleasant feel for it. Next, the rice is not sushi rice (mixed with sushi vinegar) . Instead, its mixed with traditional Japanese vegetables. The rice is also warm. Japanese people do eat sashimi with warm rice, but I have not seem chirashi with warm rice. So, I am not too sure but I did not like it warm. Anyway, bad experience. We were supposed to go to a sushi restaurant but it wasn't open for lunch. So we settle for this one since a lot of people were waiting in line. The people in the kitchen are also Japanese which led me to think the food should be authentic. Anyway, I would spend my money somewhere else. read more
