Food: everything we ordered was delicious. I'm definitely coming back here. They have a vegetarian section of the menu. Location: easy to find. It has a small parking lot. Service: was fine especially because it wasn't busy on a weeknight we went. Clean simple inside.

Food: Sumo, Salmon Nigiri, Spicy Tuna Hand Roll Price: $10.99 | $2.99 | $5.99 Overall: Looking for a spot that serves affordable and delicious sushi? Kakuna Sushi is the spot to go! I came here with my friend for lunch and it was empty. The menu is big but all of good sushi options. My favorite is the Skittles and any of the baked rolls. I can't really complain, this restaurant hits the spot when I have sushi cravings.

The place seems designed more for takeout than actual dine-in. It was a plan room with too much metal and not enough sound proofing. The food tasted good but wasn't worth the end price of ~$25 roughly. I would have gotten the same from a Japanese grocery store for half the price. It was sad that it wasn't as amazing as the pictures online led it to be. The food presentation was pretty so props to them for that.

Such a great deal! I always get my to-go orders for family gatherings. It was $60 for this whole tray which is such a steal in this economy! They have some good options with cream cheese (not my favorite but still good.) The store is fairly small, I have never actually sat inside so I can't say much about it.

Love the food here! Consistent and delicious. This time we got the Kakuna roll, Orange blossom, and pork belly bao. The sushi always tastes of good quality. I think the pork belly bao is a new item. The flavors are good, but the pork belly was dry. Appreciate the quick and friendly service here. There's a small parking lot behind the restaurant.

Was in the area and came for their happy hour. I got the 2 maki rolls and a miso soup for $11z Salmon Avocado rolls (5/5): These were fat and make the most money. Tekka Rolls (3/5): A bit small, but can't complain about the price. Overall if you love sushi at an affordable price, this is the place to go.

We love Kakuna Sushi!! My kids really enjoy the different rolls here, the price is right and the portion is big! Staff are friendly and attentive. We come here every time we crave for sushi and they don't disappoint! If my kids are happy, I'm happy! Keep up the good work Kakuna!!

Decided to check out this spot. The interior is a simple cozy square. Since it just opened, they are probably still in the process of designing/decorating the store. Either way, it felt like a clean open space. At sushi places, often you can see the chefs preparing the sushi places but the kitchen is in the back. Service is solid. We usually get the same person and he is helpful. Wish the menu was better designed and could see more images of the dishes. Wide variety of sushi options for an affordable price Chainsmoker ($16) Lion King ($13) Boujee Roll ($20) Kuna Tuna ($3.50) Salmon ($3) Hamachi ($3) $135 for 4 people (~$34)

Second time coming here in the last couple months and Kakuna Sushi does not disappoint. The service has been quick and reliable, the food was delicious, and the place has always been clean and tidy. I almost never remembered what I order, but I know that it has been delicious every time. I'll definitely be coming back!

5! 5! 5!!!! this hidden gem has become my new favorite place. The menu is huge with classics like Lion King and Rainbow rolls along with fusion as San Jose knows how to do like a Mango Chili roll. They also have ramen, udon, bento, and appetizers like a pork belly bao (which was bomb!) The Mango Chili roll was so scrumptious but I would prefer no nuts and more tajin on top. The service was prompt and friendly. My husband loved the Lion King and the Kakuna rolls. Fresh, flavorful, and great prices with plenty of free parking. There is plenty of indoor seating but I could see this place getting packed during peak time. Despite the Taylor Swift music, ambiance was calm on a Friday at lunch.

This is my second time coming here and the rolls are always so delicious! Kakuna has been my favorite and go to. Rainbow roll isn't as good but fish is still fresh. Good seating options and they were able to accommodate a large party. Service is nice, no complaints!

    Mango Chili and Charizard

I visited Kakuna before and had to bring my boyfriend here. We were craving sushi, and I'm glad we chose this place. We ordered the Charizard, Mango Chili, and Salmon Lovers rolls. My favorite was the Charizard, while my boyfriend's favorite is the Mango Chili. The Charizard roll was delicious, especially with the hot Cheetos on top. Although the hot Cheetos were soggy, I still loved it. I even wanted to get more because it was so tasty. I love that it's spicy with a crunchy topping and a flavorful sauce. The Mango Chili offers a perfect mix of sweet and spicy. With every bite, you taste the sweetness of the mango and the heat of jalapeno. Nothing is overpowering; it's a well-balanced combination. Plus, the creaminess from the avocado helps balance the sweet and spicy flavors. Since I love salmon, I had to get the Salmon Lovers roll. I enjoy sashimi, and in my opinion, it's perfectly sliced. It's topped with a bit of wasabi. The sashimi truly melts in your mouth. Kakuna Sushi is a great place if you want quality sushi. The service was excellent, and they brought our sushi out as quickly as possible. We appreciate fast service. This spot is a must-visit for some good sushi.

Best sushi in our neighborhood! We love this spot as a weekly dinner option. They made great rolls and everything is fresh and made well. Our family likes to order 'pick up' as it's usually a stop before getting home from work. Sometimes the service is slower, but lately they've become more fluid with orders! I have never dined in their restaurant, but I'd be excited to take my family there one weekend. Our favorites are the Lion King roll, the vegetable tempura, and the ramen was delicious.

In the summer, I switch to the Yuzu for something bright and refreshing. You honestly can't miss with the Black Pepper Karaage (crispy, punchy, totally addictive) and the garlic edamame (the kind you keep reaching for "one more" of). The staff is always friendly, and the owners are genuinely kind and accommodating--one of the biggest reasons I find myself back here every week. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and everything just hits the spot. Highly recommend.

First off: the location of this place just turned out to be a very closed off location. Not a lot of people knew about it, and the entrance towards the restaurant was rather pretty dark. It seemed kind of unwelcome, and we even had to wait a little bit even though there were plenty of seats available (I would understand the shortage of people serving, but even then, that shouldn't be an excuse. We shouldn't be the ones bearing the responsibility for it). I felt like as if I was rushed through this whole experience. Not only were the seating places small, but also, the portion for what they were offering was not worth it for its price. The customer service was almost as if it was non existent. I tried their ramen, and while the ramen noodles were good, the chashu was really rubbery and the onion taste was too overpowering. In addition, the pork broth was too salty, and was WAY too hot. Also, the fact that four gyozas were a little bit too less. I honestly don't know if I'm going to come back, unless things improve otherwise. It's just my take on this restaurant, but I think they need quite a bit of improving.

This is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a negative review because this experience was…read moregenuinely disappointing. Hironori has always been one of my family's favorite ramen restaurants. I've visited almost every Hironori location in the Bay Area, and I've consistently been impressed by both the food and the service. That's exactly why this visit was so disappointing. There were three people in our party. Two of us had already arrived, and the third person had already parked the car and was literally on the way into the restaurant. We were ready to sit down and place our order when a male employee at the front, wearing a hat and sporting a beard, informed us that we could only order for the two people who were physically present and could not place an order for the third guest. If this is company policy, I can absolutely understand that. Ramen quality can be affected if it sits for too long before being served, and preserving food quality is a reasonable goal. However, my issue was never with the policy itself. My issue was with the way it was communicated. Throughout the entire conversation, the only explanation we received was: "It's company policy." There was no attempt to explain the reason behind the rule, no effort to help us understand the restaurant's perspective, and no willingness to engage in a simple conversation. What made this even more frustrating was that the restaurant was nearly empty at the time. There were only about three occupied tables, no waitlist, and no line at the door. We were not trying to abuse the system or hold a table unnecessarily. Our third guest was literally moments away from entering the restaurant. I also find the policy itself questionable in practice. For example, what if I come in alone and want to order two bowls of ramen? Or what if I want to order an additional bowl to go? Would I need to bring another person just to place that order? If the answer is no, then it suggests that the "everyone must be present before ordering" rule is not as clear-cut or well thought out as it is being enforced. Again, I understand that policies exist for a reason. But in the hospitality industry, good service means helping guests understand those reasons--not simply repeating "it's company policy" as if that ends the conversation. Had the employee simply said something like: "Because ramen quality can suffer if it sits too long, our policy is to wait until all guests have arrived before placing orders. We appreciate your understanding." I would have completely understood, and there would have been no issue at all. Instead, the interaction felt cold, dismissive, and lacking even the most basic level of hospitality. In fact, I was initially prepared to stay and eat anyway. However, after remembering that this location automatically charges a 16% gratuity, I decided to leave. Quite frankly, I did not feel that the service I received that day justified any gratuity whatsoever. I still have complete confidence in Hironori's food and continue to believe that it serves some of the best ramen in the Bay Area. However, great food alone is not enough. A great restaurant should also make its guests feel respected and valued. I sincerely hope management will review the training provided to front-of-house staff, particularly regarding communication skills and guest interaction. If I return to this location in the future and am greeted by the same employee, I will not hesitate to leave and visit another Hironori location instead.

We were able to park on a side street & walk. Just a couple of blocks. They saw we were on the list & were seated right away. We chose to sit out on the patio. (Our container emptied one time, and without asking, we were immediately brought another one.) You scan a barcode at your table on your phone to get the menu & order. I wasn't so sure about it being I'm technically challenged. Lol We had our 19yr old son with us though, and he loved it. Also helpful if you're going to split the bill. You just use your own phone. They have a big "heat level" chart on the wall that is helpful to see before you order. I got the sweet butter corn ramen & loved it. We all got our ramen within about 10-15min of ordering. Perfect size serving. Best ramen I've ever had! The broth was so flavorful & noodles perfect. I loved the way the egg was done. I got heat level one, which I thought had a nice spice to it. What type noodles, extra egg, type of meat, add-ons, etc. I removed the bamboo shoots from mine. I would definitely go back & possibly try a different ramen, but knowing me, I'll get the same but probably add mushrooms. Other thing I thought was cute... there was a thin slice of what looked & tasted like imitation crab in the ramen. I had one slice & my son 2. Turns out it's to signify what heat level you got!
