Pleasantly surprised by this spot despite it not being completely fusion food like it was previously. I think it's mainly Chinese food/ Chinese skewer type of dishes. Interior design is getting there! I do like the modern touches. Plenty of seating, came around 7:30 PM on a Thursday evening and it was starting to fill up. You can place your order through scanning the QR at the table. They serve you water and snacks in the beginning (like sunflower seeds and peanuts). We ordered the crispy sweet & sour pork (a dine-in only option), small beef skewers (10pcs), cucumber salad, and garlic scallops with glass noodles (2pcs). For 2 people it was kind of on the pricey side, we definitely would recommend getting rice for the sweet & sour pork because it's SO GOOD. It has a bit of tang from the vinegar, super crispy and the sweetness is just enough. The pork (I'm assuming pork chop or cutlet) wasn't tough, had bits of fat which added more flavor! The scallops were pretty good and garlicky, I think it could be a bit better if there was more garlic. Cucumber salad was also good, pretty seasoned with a lot of peanuts, green onions, cilantro and jalapenos - not spicy at all. The mini beef skewers were also a favorite of mine. Went in expecting the Thai fusion spot I remembered, but Yami Bowl has clearly changed owners because it's now a Chinese restaurant. Decided to stay and order anyway, 'cos at the end of the day it's folks trying to make a living. We got the salt and pepper fish, garlic eggplant, chicken chow mein, and pork katsu. Everything was solid. The salt and pepper fish wasn't overseasoned like other places do it, and the garlic eggplant was flavorful. The chow mein was standard. Only minor note is the pork katsu was a bit on the thin side, but it still tasted good. They might have been a northern Chinese place because they also offered skewers, but I didn't try them. No American Chinese takeout here, btw. One suggestion for the new owners: consider a name change. While I was there, a few people came in asking for Pad Thai, clearly not realizing the restaurant isn't Thai anymore. Meanwhile I'm sure people who actually wanted Chinese food would have come if the name advertised it. Because of all the confusion I think I was the only customer who stayed in the 15 minutes I waited for food. I originally wanted to get pad see ew, but had to get fried rice instead because all the Thai food is gone from the menu. The rice was actually quite tasty, and it had hints of the old Yami Bowl. Randomly happened upon this spot on a weekend. The prices and the generous portions description caught my eye. They have Chinese/Thai/Japanese fusion food on the menu. I tried the Pad Kee Mao and Salt and Pepper Fish. I'd say the Pad Kee Mao had really good noodles, but the basil flavor was strong for me but that is totally preference. The standout for me was the fish - it was one of the best I've had in a while! I found it to be crisp on the outside, the inside super tender, and the batter ratio and flavor to be perfect. When I was there it was two guys taking the order and also cooking/prepping. They have a kiosk for ordering inside. This place is the exact epitome of what you call mom and pop shop. We ordered the top seller basil fish fillet and eggplant and the pad see ew. I recently came across Yami Bowl while driving by the little strip mall it's located in. I was admittedly a bit unsure if I wanted to try the place because this spot had a turnaround of restaurants over the years. That said, I wanted to give this new mom's and pop's shop the chance to thrive especially after reading consistently favorable reviews. I placed an order to-go on their preferred online POS system for pickup ASAP. I was coming from a place that was 7 minutes away, and my food was ready when I arrived. The woman who greeted me at the register was so kind and friendly. Appreciated her enthusiasm of my order and gratitude for placing an order with them. I got an orange chicken plate for my father-in-law and a broccoli shrimp for myself. Yami Bowl's orange chicken was bomb, and it tasted really healthy! Not heavily breaded and not oversauced. My broccoli shrimp dish was tasty as well. The broccoli was perfectly al dente, and they did not skimp on the shrimp. This was an incredible dinner and we loved every dish. The food was nicely packed and stacked in a box. We had a delicious assortment of excellent warm dishes for the cold evening. Was craving some thai food and this spot popped up with good reviews so we decided to go give it a try for dinner. The owner was welcoming right when we walked in and gave us a table with menus. I got the thai tea and loved that it wasn't too sweet like other thai teas are. We couldn't decide between the pad thai or pad kee mao dish so we decided to get both and both were really good in their own ways! The pad thai wasn't spicy at all but she gave us some chili oil that was made in house, and it tasted so good mixed with the pad thai. The pad kee mao was already spicy enough for me and was really flavorful as well. The portions were really generous for the price and the food was really tasty as well. We were looking at the menu outside of the restaurant and debating whether we wanted sushi or thai food, but the owner was the ultimate reason why we chose to dine in at this place. We always drove past this place whenever we go to HMart, Costco, and other grocery stores. Honestly, why did we not go here sooner. The prices were very affordable and for what you get it's A LOT. * pineapple fried rice - the rice was soft but not mushy. The chicken was marinated well with some sort of soy sauce like flavor. It also had a crisp to it when you chew it. They give a lot of meat to the rice! * orange chicken - from the photo, they give half the plate filled with chicken. The orange marinate was not too salty nor overly sweet. The chicken itself had a small crisp and inside was very juicy. * chicken potstickers (not pictured) - whatever dipping sauce we got, that was so yummy. It was sweet and salty with some sesame like flavoring. The potsticker itself was like every potsticker, can't go wrong. Overall, this place is a hidden gem! Service with classic fares, but also twists, like popcorn chicken? The portion sizes are generous and the taste, while not exactly what I'd call, "authentic", it was still pretty good. Maybe a slightly different take on some of their dishes, but still quite close. Inside limited seating with not really much decor. Their menu has a nice variety, offering teriyaki, Chinese, and Thai food! Tonight, we had the Combo Bowl and Eggplant and Fish in Garlic Sauce, both of which were excellent. The dishes were very comforting... reminds me of some really good home cooking. The Combo Bowl is a plate with rice, veggies, chicken teriyaki and gyudon beef. It was delicious, but the chicken blew us away. It was smokey, tender, juicy, and just some of the best grilled chicken I've had. I'll definitely be getting their teriyaki chicken next time. To begin with the food at Yami Bowl is really nothing to write home about unless you are writing to your mom. What I mean is that if you want to find a place where you can get a good even hearty Asian meal, Yami Bowl is the place. Meanwhile, her husband is in the back, probably helping with the cooking and also serving. I arrived at about 11:30 am with my friend and located the restaurant in this small strip mall just off Berryessa. What surprised me was a wooden panel instead of glass for a front door. She was busily packing to-go boxes into a number of plastic bags and she instantly invited me in and apologized for the damaged door and explain that some thieves in the night broke into 4 restaurants in the mall. I was surprised to find the inside in ready for customers condition after she mentioned the mess the thieves had made. Anyway she took the time to explain the menu since it was our first time there and made some recommendations. Based on that, my friend and I ordered the Pad See Ew with prawns, the sauted string beans and Eggplant and Chicken in Basil Sauce. Food arrived about 8 minutes later and we were surprised at the portion sizes. All the dishes were very generous, well cooked and tasted great. By the time we left, three other tables were occupied by an elderly couple, a teenage couple and a middle aged man. They look like regulars and I guess they know a good thing when they see it. Bottom line, this is a place to get a good meal for a reasonable price, just like the ones you get at home. I do plan to visit Yami should the opportunity present itself. read more

Literally one of the beeest finds! We were looking for a dinner spot in the area and landed on Yami Bowl. We placed our order online from their website, and it was ready by the time that we got there. The store gave mom-and-pop, homey vibes. When picking up our order, the owner gave us a rundown of everything we ordered. You could tell that they cared about the food they served; everything was packaged with intention. They poked a hole in our popcorn chicken to keep it crispy, and placed a piece of cardboard at the bottom of the bag to keep our food standing up in the car ride... overall, great attention to detail! If you have to try a few items here, we read around and found that some of their most popular items were eggplant with fish and popcorn chicken. These CERTAINLY didn't disappoint - the eggplant was flavorful and garlicky, and the fish was soft and loaded with flavor. The popcorn chicken was crisp and moist on the inside, though it wasn't too spicy. We made a spicy mayo sauce at home to dip it in, and it tasted amazing! This is one of the best modern dining experiences I think I've ever had in my life. I never make yelp reviews but I actually feel obligated to share just how good this place actually is. Me and my friends stepped in not really knowing much about what we were about to eat and just started ordering stuff. We werent disappointed by a single thing they brought to the table. At one point my chopsticks fell to the floor and before I could even look up to put them back on the table and ask for new ones, a waitress came and handed me some new ones. Ordered pickup and it was ready in less than 20 minutes (though the estimated wait time said 25). On the 15-minute drive home, the spicy popcorn chicken got a little soggy but it crisped up in the air fryer just fine. The shell is smoother, with less breading than Taiwanese popcorn chicken or usual fried chicken, but the inside was juicy and tasty. I could see spices scattered on the chicken but it really wasn't spicy at all, just spiceD. The pineapple fried rice unfortunately didn't have as much salt as I would have liked and suffered the same sogginess as the chicken. It's also possible that the rice wasn't fried to dryness enough in the first place though. It contained 8-10 large pieces of shrimp, cubes of ham, peas, carrots, raisins, cashews, and of course, pineapple. The rice noodles are soaked in this spicy, savory sauce. The chopped red chilis on top really adds that extra kick if you love spicy food. This is probably the best pad kee mao i've had in a long time. Eggplant and fish fillet - This dish really surprised me. The sauce was so flavorful and aromatic from the basil without being overly salty and needing rice. The eggplant was soft and cooked well. The fish fillets would just melt in your mouth. Green curry with fish- The curry was on the thinner side in terms of consistency but don't let that deter you. The curry itself is sweet and coconutty. I love the bamboo shoots adding that extra crunchy texture. The fish, again, was super tender and soft. Although we ordered mild, my husband found this to be pretty spicy to him. To me, it was mild in terms of the Thai spicy scale. This dish is perfect over a bed of rice. The quality of the food is truly impressive. I have no notes, no complaints. The owners are so warm and friendly. As we picked up our takeout order, the owner walked us through the dishes and offered us chili oil, utensils, and even extra rice. We ordered over the phone on a Friday night and the food was ready to be picked up in about 15 minutes. We live right down the street from here so we will be coming often. I finally ordered a few dishes from here and the food did not disappoint. I ordered the salt and pepper fish, red curry and pad see ew. At first I didn't really like curry, the curry broth was a little different but the more I ate it, the more it got addicting. I don't know what they did to the eggplant but it was delicious! This restaurant is located in a little plaza, the side facing Berryessa is the Starbucks. My sister recommended this place to us. The inside of the restaurant is cute and looked clean. There were tables and chairs enough for eating in. We had thought it was mainly a takeout place, but you can totally eat there! We ordered on the phone for pickup and the lady on the phone was so sweet and when we asked for mild/less spicy, she made alot of effort to reassure us and tell the kitchen. Everything was delicious. The garlic eggplant was cooked well and not too mushy. The green curry with chicken was still a little spicy, but still manageable. The sauce will had a great balance and depth of flavor. I would not have been able to eat it if it was more spicy! I'm glad we let her know we needed less spicy. Some places 'mild' is still too spicy for me.
